. Drive carefully whenoffthe road andavoid
dangerous areas.Always wearyourseatbelts to
help keep youand your passengers inposition
when driving overrough terrain.
. Before drivingupordown grades, checktheroad
surface forbumps orpotholes. Besure toclimb a
gentle slopeanddescend agentle slope.
. Donot drive across steepslopes. Instead drive
either straight uporstraight downtheslopes. Off-
road vehicles cantipover sideways muchmore
easily thantheycanforward orbackward.
. To prevent damage tothe vehicle, donot drive on
dry and hard surface roadsinthe LOCK mode.
. Many hillsaretoo steep forany vehicle. Ifyou drive
up them, youmay stall. Ifyou drive down them, you
may notbeable tocontrol yourspeed. Ifyou drive
across them,youmay rollover.
. Donot shift gears whiledriving ondownhill grades
as this could cause lossofcontrol ofthe vehicle.
. Besure touse theengine brake.Thefoot brake
performance maybereduced, resultingina
possible accident.
. Stay alertwhen driving tothe top ofahill. Atthe
top there could beadrop-off orother hazard that
could cause anaccident.
. Ifyour engine stallsoryou cannot makeitto the
top ofasteep hill, never attempt toturn around.
Y our vehicle couldtiporroll over. Always back straight
downinreverse gear.Never backdown in
the ªNº (Neutral) positionusingonlythebrake, as
this could cause lossofcontrol.
. Heavy braking goingdownahill could cause the
brakes tooverheat andfade, resulting inloss of
control andanaccident. Applybrakes lightlyand
use alow gear tocontrol yourspeed.
. Unsecured luggagecanbethrown around when
driving overrough terrain. Properly secureitso
that itwill notbethrown forward andcause injury
to you oryour passengers.
. To avoid raising thecenter ofgravity excessively ,
do not exceed therated capacity ofthe roof rack/
gear bin(ifequipped) andevenly distribute the
load. Secure heavyloadsinthe luggage areaas
far forward andaslow aspossible. Donot equip
the vehicle withtires larger thanspecified. This
could cause yourvehicle torollover.
. Donot grip theinside orspokes ofthe steering
wheel whendriving off-road. Thesteering wheel
could jerkand injure yourhands. Instead drivewith
your fingers andthumbs onthe outside ofthe rim.
. Before operating vehicle,ensurethatthedriver
and allpassengers havetheirseatbelts fastened.
. Always drivewiththefloor mats inplace asthe
floor maybecome veryhot.Particular careshould
be taken ifyou arebarefoot.
. Lower yourspeed whenencountering strong
crosswinds. Withitshigher center ofgravity ,your
vehicle ismore affected bygusty sidewinds.
Slower speeds ensurebettervehicle control.
. Donot drive beyond theperformance ofthe
tires even with4WD.
Sudden acceleration, sharpsteering maneu-
vers orsudden braking maycause lossof
control.
