CAUTION:
Do not continue driving if the alternator belt is
loose, broken or missing.
Door open warning light (if e\fuipped)
\bhen the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the
door open warning light illuminates if any of the doors
are open or not closed securely.
Electric power steering warning light
\bhen the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the
electric power steering warning light illuminates. After
starting the engine, the electric power steering warning
light turns off. This indicates the electric power
steering system is operational.
If the electric power steering warning light illuminates
while the engine is running, it may indicate the electric
power steering system is not functioning properly and
may need servicing. Have the electric power steering
system checked by a RENAULT dealer.
\bhen the electric power steering warning light
illuminates with the engine running, the power assist
to the steering will cease operation but you will still
have control of the vehicle. At this time, greater
steering efforts are re\fuired to operate the steering
wheel, especially in sharp turns and at low speeds.
(See “Electric power steering system” (P.5-35) .)
Engine oil pressure warning light
\bhen the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the
engine oil pressure warning light illuminates. After
starting the engine, the engine oil pressure warning
light turns off. This indicates that the oil pressure
sensors in the engine are operational.
If the engine oil pressure warning light illuminates or
blinks while the engine is running, it may indicate that
the engine oil pressure is low.
Stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible. Stop the
engine immediately and call a RENAULT dealer.
CAUTION:
.Running the engine with the engine oil
pressure warning light illuminated could
cause serious damage to the engine.
. The engine oil pressure warning light is not
designed to indicate a low oil level. The oil
level should be checked using the dipstick.
(See “Engine oil” (P.8-10) .)
High temperature warning light (red)
\bhen the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the
high temperature warning light illuminates and then
turns off. This indicates that the high temperature
sensor in the engine coolant system is operational.
CAUTION:
If the high temperature warning light illuminates
while the engine is running, it may indicate the
engine temperature is extremely high.
Stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible. If the vehicle is overheated, continuing vehicle
operation may seriously damage the engine.
(See “If your vehicle overheats” (P.6-10) for the
immediate action required.)
Intelligent Key system warning light (if
e\fuipped)
After the ignition switch is placed in the “ON” position,
this light comes on for about 2 seconds and then turns
off.
This light illuminates or blinks as follows:
. The light blinks in yellow when the door is closed
with the Intelligent Key left outside the vehicle and
the ignition switch in the “ACC” or “ON” position.
Make sure that the Intelligent Key is inside the
vehicle (for model without vehicle information
display) .
. The light blinks in green when the Intelligent Key
battery is running out of power. Replace the
battery with a new one (for model without vehicle
information display) . See “Battery” (P.8-23) .
. The light illuminates in yellow when it warns of a
malfunction with the electrical steering lock
system or the Intelligent Key system.
If the warning light illuminates in yellow while the
engine is stopped, it may be impossible to free the
steering lock or to start the engine. If the light comes
on while the engine is running, you can drive the
vehicle. However in these cases, contact a RENAULT
dealer for repair as soon as possible.

WARNING:
.Radio waves could adversely affect electric
medical equipment. Those who use a pace-
maker should contact the electric medical
equipment manufacturer for the possible
influences before use.
. The Intelligent Key transmits radio waves
when the buttons are pushed. The radio waves may affect aircraft navigation and
communication systems. Do not operate the
Intelligent Key while on an airplane. Make
sure the buttons are not operated uninten-
tionally when the unit is stored during a
flight.
T\be Intelligent Key system can operate all t\be door

controller function or pus\bing t\be request switc\b on
t\be ve\bicle wit\bout taking t\be key out from a pocket or
purse. T\be operating environment and/or conditions
may affect t\be Intelligent Key system operation.
Be sure to read t\be following before using t\be
Intelligent Key system.
CAUTION:
. Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key with you
when operating the vehicle.
. Never leave the Intelligent Key in the vehicle
when you leave the vehicle.
. When the outside temperature is extremely
low, the Intelligent Key system may not
function properly.
T\be Intelligent Key is always communicating wit\b t\be
ve\bicle as it receives radio waves. T\be Intelligent Key
system transmits weak radio waves. Environmental
conditions may interfere wit\b t\be operation of t\be
Intelligent Key system under t\be following operating
conditions.
. W\ben operating near a location w\bere strong
radio waves are transmitted, suc\b as a TV tower,
power station and broadcasting station.

Alt\boug\b t\be life of t\be battery varies depending on t\be
operating conditions, t\be battery’s life is approximately
2 years. If t\be battery is disc\barged, replace it wit\b a
new one.
For information regarding replacement of a battery, see
“Intelligent key battery” \fP.8-25) .
Since t\be Intelligent Key is continuously receiving radio
waves, if t\be key is left near equipment w\bic\b transmits
strong radio waves, suc\b as signals from a TV and
personal computer, t\be battery life may become
s\borter.
To start t\be engine w\ben t\be Intelligent Key battery is
disc\barged, see “Pus\b-button ignition switc\b \fmodel
