Radio data system (RDS)
Alternative Frequency (AF):
.The A\f fun\btion operates in the \fM (radio) and CD
modes.
. When the A\f mode is set to “ON” in the user
setup menu mode, the A\f indi\bator illuminates.
\for a\btivation or dea\btivation, use the MENU button.
(Details are explained later in this se\btion.)
. Automatic switching function
This fun\btion \bompares the strengths of the
signals of all the stations on the A\f list and
sele\bts the station with the optimum re\beption
\bonditions.
. Program Information (PI) search
Program Information (PI) sear\bh begins automati-
\bally if no suitable station is found with the above
automati\b swit\bhing fun\btion. The PI sear\bh
fun\btion \bhe\bks ea\bh RDS station with the same
PI \bode. During this time the sound is muted and
“PI SEARCH” is displayed. The PI sear\bh opera-
tion stops when a suitable station is found. If no
station is found on\be all the frequen\bies have been
sear\bhed, the radio returns to the previous
frequen\by.
. Enhanced Other Network (EON) data update
(This function also operates when the AF
mode is off.)
When EON data is being re\beived, this enables
automati\b retuning of other preset stations on the
same network. Also, network linked servi\bes \ban

this time is the same as that for traffi\b announ\be-
ments. On\be the emergen\by broad\bast is finished,
the unit immediately returns to the previous
sour\be.
. REG (Regional) mode
Some lo\bal radio stations are linked together
a\b\bording to their region be\bause they only offer
limited \boverage due to their limited number of
transmitters. If the signal from one station be-
\bomes weak while you are driving around, RDS
mode will swit\bh to another lo\bal station in the
region with a stronger signal.
When the REG mode is a\btivated in the \fM band

. “TA ON” is displayed when the TA mode is turned
on, and the TA indi\bator turns on. “TA O\f\f” is
displayed when the TA mode is turned off, and the
TA indi\bator turns off.

traffi\b announ\bement started, and the volume
returns to the previous level. \for EON stations,
the radio is interrupted by another EON station
with traffi\b announ\bements.
The traffi\b announ\bement interrupt mode is
\ban\belled if the TA/NEWS button is pushed

P (Park):
Use this position when the vehicle is parked or when
starting the engine.Make sure that the vehicle is
completely stopped and move the selector lever
into the P (Park) position. \fpply the parking brake.
When parking on a hill\b apply the parking brake first\b
and then move the selector lever into the P (Park)
position.
R (Reverse):
Use this position to back up. Make sure that the vehicle
is completely stopped before selecting the R (Reverse)
position.
N (Neutral):
Neither the forward nor reverse gear is engaged. The
engine can be started in this position. You may shift to
the N (Neutral) position and restart a stalled engine
while the vehicle is moving.
D (Drive):
Use this position for all normal forward driving.
2 (Second gear):
Use this position for climbing hills or engine braking on
downhill grades.
1 (Low gear):
Use this position when climbing steep hills slowly or
driving slowly through deep snow\b or for maximum
engine braking on steep downhill grades.
Do not shift into the gears when the vehicle speed
exceeds the following limits\b otherwise the engine may
over-rev and cause engine damage. Engine model

Overdrive switch
JVS0013XLeft-Hand Drive (LHD) modelEach time the engine is started\b the overdrive function
is automatically reset to “ON”.
“ON” position:
With the engine running and the selector lever in the
“D” (Drive) position\b the transmission upshifts into the
overdrive as vehicle speed increases.
Overdrive does not engage until the engine has
reached operating temperature.
“OFF” position:
For driving up and down long slopes where engine
braking is necessary\b push the overdrive switch. The
overdrive off indicator light
in the meter panel
illuminates.
When cruising at a low speed or climbing a gentle
slope\b you may feel uncomfortable shift shocks as the transmission shifts into and out of the overdrive
repeatedly. In this case\b push the overdrive switch to
turn the overdrive “OFF”.
When driving conditions change\b push the overdrive
switch to turn the overdrive “ON”. The overdrive off
indicator light will turn off.
Remember not to drive at high speeds for extended
periods of time with the overdrive “OFF”. This reduces
fuel economy.
\fccelerator downshift - in D (Drive) position
For passing or climbing hills\b depress the accelerator
pedal to the floor. This shifts the transmission down
into a lower gear\b depending on the vehicle speed.
Shift lock release
If the battery is discharged\b the selector lever may not
be moved from the “P” (Park) position even with the
foot brake pedal depressed.
To move the selector lever\b release the shift lock. The
selector lever can be moved to the “N” (Neutral)
position. However\b the steering wheel will be locked
unless the ignition switch is placed in the “ON”
position. This allows the vehicle to be moved if the
battery is discharged.
