Using the automatic mode
Press or .
The air conditioning system will begin to operate. Air outlets and fan
speed are automatically adjusted according to the temperature set-
ting.
Press or to increase the temperature and
or to decrease the temperature.
Vehicles with DUAL button:
The temperature for the driver and passenger seat can be set sepa-
rately.

Vehicles without DUAL button
Press to increase the temperature and to decrease
the temperature.
Vehicles with DUAL button
Driver’s side: Press to increase the temperature and
to decrease the temperature.
Passenger’s side: Press to increase the temperature and to decrease the temperature.
The air conditioning system sw itches between individual and
simultaneous modes each time is pressed.
● Simultaneous mode (the indicator on is off)
The driver’s side temperature control switch can be used to
adjust the temperature for all seats.
● Individual mode (the indicator on is on)
The temperature for the driver’s and passenger’s seat can be
adjusted separately. Operate the passenger’s side tempera-
ture controls to enter individual mode.

■Adjusting the fan speed
Touch any switch of
(decrease increase).
The fan speed is shown on the display. (4 levels)
Press to turn the fan off.
■Changing the air outlets
Push the air flow selector switch.
The air outlets switch each time any of the air flow selector switch is
pushed. The air flow shown on the display indicates the following.
When is pushed, air flows
to the upper body.
When is pushed, air flows
to the upper body and feet.

defogger operates.
Recirculated air mode will auto-
matically switch to outside air
mode.

matically switch to outside air

In this mode, the air intake mode
cannot be changed to the recircu-
lated air mode.

■Using the automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically in accordance with the temperature set-
ting and ambient conditions. As a result, the following may occur.
●The system may switch automatically to recirculated mode when the
coolest temperature setting is selected in summer.
● Immediately after the switch is pressed, the fan may stop for a while until
warm or cool air is ready to flow.
● Cool air may flow to the area around the upper body when the heater is
on.
■ Using the system in recirculated air mode
The windows will fog up more easily if the recirculated air mode is used for
an extended period.
■ Window defogger feature
Recirculated air mode may automatically switch to outside air mode in situa-
tions where the windows need to be defogged.
■ When outside temper ature approaches 32F (0 C)
The air conditioning system may not operate even when or is
pressed.
■ When the indicator on or flashes
Press or and turn off the air conditioning system before turn-
ing it on once more. There may be a problem in the air conditioning syst\
em if
the indicator continues to flash. Turn the air conditioning system off and
have it inspected by your Toyota dealer.

CAUTION
■To prevent the windshield from fogging up
Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the wind-
shield can cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your
vision.
NOTICE
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditioning system on longer than necessary when the
engine is stopped.

Rear window and outside rear view mirror defoggers (if equipped)
■The rear window and outside rear vi ew mirror defoggers can be oper-
ated when
The engine switch is in the ON position.
■ Outside rear view mirror defoggers (vehicles with outside rear view
mirror defoggers)
Turning the rear window defogger on will turn the outside rear view mirror
defoggers on.
CAUTION
■ When the outside rear view mirror defoggers are on (vehicles with out-
side rear view mirror defoggers)
Do not touch the rear view mirror surfaces, as they can become very hot and
burn you.
Clear the rear window using the defogger.
On/off
Press the button to turn on the
rear window defogger. The
indicator will come on. The
defoggers will automatically
turn off after approximately 15
minutes. Pressing the button
again also turns the defoggers
off.
