The Blind Spot Monitor function uses radar sensors to detect vehicles
that are traveling in an adjacent lane in the area that is not reflected in
the outside rear view mirror (the b lind spot), and advises the driver of
the vehicles existence via the out side rear view mirror indicator.
The areas that vehicles can be detected in are outlined below.
The range of the detection area
extends to: Approximately 11.5 ft. (3.5 m)
from the side of the vehicle
The first 1.6 ft. (0.5 m) from the
side of the vehicle is not in the
detection area
Approximately 9.8 ft. (3 m) from
the rear bumper
Approximately 3.3 ft. (1 m) for-
ward of the rear bumper
nThe Blind Spot Monitor function is operational when
lThe BSM main switch is set to on
l Vehicle speed is greater than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h).
n The Blind Spot Monitor function will detect a vehicle when
lA vehicle in an adjacent lane overtakes your vehicle.
l Another vehicle enters the detection area when it changes lanes.

WARNING
nCautions regarding the use of the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking
care to observe your surroundings.
The Blind Spot Monitor function is a supplementary function which alerts the
driver that a vehicle is present in the blind spot. Do not overly rely on the
Blind Spot Monitor function. The function cannot judge if it is safe to change
lanes, therefore over reliance could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
According to conditions, the system may not function correctly. Therefore
the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.

It can detect other vehicles approaching from the right or left rear of
the vehicle. It uses radar sensors to alert the driver of the other vehi-
cle’s existence through fl ashing the outside rear view mirror indicators
and sounding a buzzer.

WARNING
nCautions regarding the use of the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking
care to observe your surroundings.
The Rear Cross Traffic Alert function is only an assist and is not a replace-
ment for careful driving. Driver must be careful when backing up, even
when using Rear Cross Traffic Alert function. The driver’s own visual confir-
mation of behind you and your vehicle is necessary and be sure there are
no pedestrians, other vehicles etc. before backing up. Failure to do so could
cause death or serious injury.
According to conditions, the system may not function correctly. Therefore
the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.

4-6. Driving tips
uUsing Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the accel-
erator pedal depression amount can be generated more smoothly
than it is in normal conditions. In addition, the operation of the air
conditioning system (h eating/cooling) will be minimized, improving
the fuel economy. ( P. 334)
uUse of Hybrid System Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the needle of Hybrid
System Indicator within Eco area. ( P. 90)
uShift lever operation
Shift the shift lever to D when stopped at a traffic light, or driving in
heavy traffic etc. Shift the shift lever to P when parking. When using
the N, there is no positive effect on fuel consumption. In the N, the
gasoline engine operates but el ectricity cannot be generated. Also,
when using the air conditioning s ystem, etc., the hybrid battery
(traction battery) power is consumed.
uAccelerator pedal/brake pedal operation
l Drive your vehicle smoothly. Avoid abrupt acceleration and
deceleration. Gradual accelerati on and deceleration will make
more effective use of the electric motor (traction motor) without
having to use gasoline engine power.
l Avoid repeated acceleration. Repeated acceleration consumes
hybrid battery (traction battery) power, resulting in poor fuel con-
sumption. Battery power can be restored by driving with the
accelerator pedal slightly released.
Hybrid vehicle driving tips
For economical and ecological driv ing, pay attention to the fol-
lowing points:

When using wireless charger (if equipped)
A mobile device can be charged wirelessly on the tray.
Charging can only be performed with the power switch in ACCESSORY or
ON mode and only on mobile devices with the “ ” logo.
When placing the mobile device on the wireless charging surface of the
tray, make sure that there are no objects in-between the mobile device
and the tray. They may interfere with charging.
n If the wireless charger LED indicators flash
If the wireless charging surface of the tray becomes too hot, the LED indica-
tors will flash and charging is canceled. The LED indicators will be illuminated
if the surface of the tray cools down.
If the LED indicators flash even though the surface of the tray is not hot, the
wireless charger may be malfunctioning. Consult your Toyota dealer.
n When charging of the wirel ess charger stops temporarily
If any of the following operations ar e performed with the electronic key
present, charging may stop temporarily . Charging will start again after a
while.
l Locking/unlocking the doors by touching the door handle
