NOTICE
QTo prevent paint deterioration and corrosion on the body and compo-
nents (aluminum wheels etc.)
O Wash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on the paint surface
• If dead insects, insect droppings or bird droppings are presen t on the
paint surface
• After driving in an area contaminated with soot, oily smoke, m ine dust,
iron powder or chemical substances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled with dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the pai nt surface
O If the paint is chipped or scratched, have it repaired immediately.
O To prevent the wheels from corroding, remove any dirt and store in a place
with low humidity when storing the wheels.
Q To prevent damage to the windshield wiper arms
When lifting the wiper arms away from the windshield pull the d river side
wiper arm upward first, and repeat for the passenger’s side. Wh en returning
the wipers to their original position, do so from the passenger ’s side first.
Q Cleaning the exterior lights
O Wash carefully. Do not use organic substances or scrub with a hard brush.
This may damage the surfaces of the lights.
O Do not apply wax to the surfaces of the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the lenses.

NOTICE
QHandling the decorative resin parts (for vehicles equipped with 17-inch
wheels)
O Make sure to observe the following when handling wheels equipped with
decorative resin parts. Failure to observe these precautions ma y result in
damage to the decorative resin parts or wheels.
• Do not remove the decorative resin parts
When decorative resin parts removal is necessary, contact any a utho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any rel iable
repairer.
O If there is rattling in the decorative resin parts, or strange sounds from the
wheel area when driving, have your wheels inspected by any auth orized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
Q When using an automatic car wash
Set the wiper switch to the off position.
If the wiper switch is in the position, the wipers may operate and the
wiper blades may be damaged.
• Do not hold the tire by the decorative
resin parts to lift up or carry the tire.

NOTICE
QWhen using a high pressure car wash
O When washing the vehicle, do not spray the camera or its surrounding
area directly with a high pressure washer. Shock applied from h igh pres-
sure water may cause the device to not operate normally.
O Do not spray water directly on the radar which is equipped behind the
emblem. Otherwise it may cause the device to be damaged.
O Do not bring the nozzle tip close to boots (rubber or resin manufactured
cover), connectors or the following parts. The parts may be dam aged if
they come into contact with high-pressure water.
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts
O Keep the cleaning nozzle at least 30 cm (11.9 in.) away from the vehicle
body. Otherwise resin section, such as moldings and bumpers, ma y be
deformed and damaged. Also, do not continuously hold the nozzle in the
same place.
O Do not spray the lower part of the windshield continuously. If water enters
the air conditioning system intake located near the lower part of the wind-
shield, the air conditioning system may not operate correctly.
O Do not wash the underside of the vehicle using a high pressure car
washer.
O Do not use the washer on the area around the charging port lid. Water
could get into the charging inlet and could damage the vehicle.
Q When raising the windshield wiper arms
Make sure to hold the hook parts of the
wiper arms to raise them.
Do not hold only the wiper blades when
raising them, or it may cause deformation
of the wiper blades.

Cleaning and protecting the vehicle interior
ORemove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty surfaces
with a cloth dampened with lukewarm water.
OIf dirt cannot be removed, wipe it off with a soft cloth dampened with
neutral detergent diluted to approximately 1%.
Wring out any excess water from the cloth and thoroughly wipe off
remaining traces of detergent and water.
ORemove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner.
OWipe off any excess dirt and dust with a soft cloth dampened with
diluted detergent.
Use a diluted water solution of approximately 5% neutral wool detergent.
OWring out any excess water from the cloth and thoroughly wipe off
all remaining traces of detergent.
OWipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remaining
moisture. Allow the leather to dry in a shaded and ventilated area.
ORemove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner.
OWipe it off with a soft cloth dampened with neutral detergent diluted
to approximately 1%.
OWring out any excess water from the cloth and thoroughly wipe off
remaining traces of detergent and water.

Clean the air intake vents and fil-
ters by the following procedures to
prevent dust from accumulating in
them, or to prevent them from
clogging.
The filters are attached to the back
side of the air intake vent grilles.
Q
Cleaning the air intake vents and filters
Remove the dust from the vents
and filters with a vacuum
cleaner etc.
Clean the vents of the both
sides.

Cleaning the filters
If “Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts See
Owner’s Manual” is shown on the multi-information display, remove
the air intake vent grilles on the both sides of the rear seat and
clean the filters.
Insert a flathead screwdriver
etc. to the notch at the edge
of the grille to disconnect the
3 tabs, and remove the grille.
Turn over the rubber portion
beside the grille to insert the flat-
head screwdriver.
To prevent damage, cover the
tip of the flathead screwdriver
with a rag.

Remove the filter.
Remove dust using a vac-
uum cleaner etc. to clean the
filter.
Also, remove dust on the grille
as well as on the filter using a
vacuum cleaner.
Reinstall the filter to the origi-
nal position.
Be careful not to deform the fil-
ter or allow a gap between the
filter and the installation posi-
tion when installing the filter.
Insert the tabs at the edge of
the grille to the positions, and
push the opposite side edge
in to secure the grille.
Reinstall the grille to the original
position while turning over the
rubber portion.
Start the hybrid system and check that the warning message on
the multi-information display disappears.
It may take several minutes before the warning message disappears.

QCaring for leather areas
Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to
maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
QShampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge
or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water.
Wipe dirty surfaces and let them dry. Excellent results are obtained by keep-
ing the carpet as dry as possible.
QSeat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
QCleaning the air intake vents and filters
ODust on the air intake vents or filters may interferes cooling of the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery) and results in poor electricity and fuel consumption.
Clean the air intake vents and filters periodically.
OIf continuing to drive the vehicle with “Maintenance Required for Traction
Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s Manual” shown on the multi-information
display, the hybrid battery (traction battery) may overheat, leading to
decreasing in distance that can be driven using the electric motor. It may
cause poor electricity and fuel consumption or a malfunction. If the warning
message is shown, clean the air intake vents and filters immediately.
OImproper handling may result in damage to the grille or filters. If you have
any concerns about cleaning the filters, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
OIf the warning message on the multi-information display does not disappear
after cleaning the filters, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
OTiming of cleaning filters differs depending on the use environment of the
vehicle.

WARNING
QWater in the vehicle
O Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle, such as on the floor, in the
hybrid battery (traction battery) air intake vent, and in the l uggage com-
partment.
Doing so may cause the hybrid battery (traction battery), elect rical compo-
nents, etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
O Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet.

An electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or no t function
properly, resulting in death or serious injury.
O Vehicles with wireless charger:
Do not let the wireless charger ( P. 557) get wet. Failure to do so may
cause the charger to become hot and cause burns or could cause electric
shock resulting in death or serious injury.
Q Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel m ay reflect
off the windshield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading t o an accident,
resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
Q Cleaning detergents
O Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehi-
cle interior or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic substances such as benzene or gasol ine,
alkaline or acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, and alco-
hol
O Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel’s or other
interior part’s painted surface may be damaged.
Q Preventing damage to leather surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deteri oration of
leather surfaces:
O Remove any dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
O Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
O Do not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or containing wax on the uphol-
stery, as they may stick to the leather surface if the vehicle interior heats
up significantly.

QWater on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems such as the audio system may be damaged if wate r comes
into contact with electrical components such as the audio syste m above or
under the floor of the vehicle. Water may also cause the body t o rust.
Q When cleaning the inside of the windshield
Do not allow glass cleaner to contact the lens. Also, do not to uch the lens.

Q Cleaning the inside of the rear window
O Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause
damage to the rear window defogger heater wires or antenna. Use a cloth
dampened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the window clean. W ipe the
window in strokes running parallel to the heater wires or anten na.
O Be careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna.
Q When cleaning the air intake vents and filters
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may cause d amage to
the vehicle.
O When removing the air intake vent grille, make sure to turn the power
switch off to stop the hybrid system.
O Do not use water or other liquid to clean the air intake vents or filters.
O Do not allow water or foreign matter to enter the air intake vent when the
grille is removed.
O Carefully handle the removed filters not to damage.
If the filter is damaged, have it replaced with a new filter by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
O Make sure to reinstall the filters and vents to its original positions after
cleaning.
The shape of the left side and right side filters are different . When remov-
ing both filters, be careful not to mistake the left-right inst allation direction.
O Do not install anything but the filters exclusive for this vehicle to the air
intake vents or use the vehicle without installing the filters.

Maintenance requirements
Scheduled maintenance should be performed at specified intervals
according to the maintenance schedule.
For full details of your maintenance schedule, refer to the “Toyota Service
Booklet” or “Toyota Warranty Booklet”.
What about do-it-yourself maintenance?
Many maintenance items are easy to do yourself if you have a little
mechanical ability and a few basic automotive tools.
Note, however, that some maintenance tasks require special tools and
skills. These are best performed by qualified technicians. Even if you’re an
experienced do-it-yourself mechanic, we recommend that repairs and
maintenance be conducted by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. Any authorized Toyota retailer
or repairer will keep a record of maintenance, which could be useful should
you ever require Warranty Service. Should you choose to select a qualified
and equipped professional other than an authorized Toyota repairer to ser-
vice or maintain your vehicle, we recommend that you request that a
record of maintenance be kept.
To ensure safe and economical driving, day-to-day care and reg-
ular maintenance are essential. Toyota recommends the follow-
