sparebatteryoranothercar’sbatterytostart
theengine.Alwayscheckthattheclampsare
securesothattherearenosparksduringthe
startattempt.
Toavoidtheriskofexplosion,werecommend
youdoexactlyasfollows.
–Turntheignitionkeytoposition0.
–Ensurethattheboosterbatteryhas
12voltcurrent.
–Iftheboosterbatteryisinanothercar,
stoptheengineofthatcarandmakesure
thecarsarenottouching.
–Connecttheredcabletothepositive
terminal(1+)oftheboosterbatteryandtheredconnectioninyourcar’sengine
compartment(2+).
Connecttheclamptothecontactpoint
underasmallblackcoverwhichhasa
plussignonit.Thecoverisintegrated
withthefuseboxcover.
–Connectoneclampoftheblackcableto
thenegativeterminalofthebooster
battery(3–).
–Connecttheotherclampoftheblack
cabletotheliftingeyeonyourcar’s
engine(4–).
–Starttheengineofthe"donorcar".Let
theenginerunafewminutesataspeed
slightlyhigherthanidle1500rpm.
–Starttheengineofthecarwiththeflat
battery.
–Removetheclampsinreverseorder.NOTE!Donotremovetheclampsduringthe
startattempt;riskofsparkbuild-up.

Thebatterycangenerateoxyhydrogen
gas,whichishighlyexplosive.Onespark,
whichcanbegeneratedifyouconnectthe
jumpleadsincorrectly,issufficientto
makethebatteryexplode.
Thebatterycontainssulphuricacid,which
cancauseseriousburns.Iftheacid
comesintocontactwitheyes,skinor
clothing,flushwithlargequantitiesof
water.Ifacidsplashesintotheeyes,seek
medicalattentionimmediately.

Usetheendofthetorquewrench(seeillus-
tration)ortheignitionkeytoloosenorsecure
thecover.Rotate¼turn.LoadcarriersToavoiddamagingyourcarandto
achievethebestlevelofsafetywhen
driving,werecommendthatyouonlyuse
loadcarriersthatVolvohasspecially
designedforyourcar.
Checkperiodicallythattheloadcarriers
andloadareproperlysecured.Lashthe
loadsecurelywithretainingstraps!Distributetheloadevenlyovertheload
carriers.Donotloadlopsidedly!Placethe
heaviestitemsatthebottom.
Rememberthatthecar’scentreofgravity
anddrivingcharacteristicschangeifyou
havealoadontheroof.
Keepinmindthatthecar’swind
resistanceandfuelconsumptionincrease
inproportiontothesizeoftheload.
Drivegently!Avoidquickaccelerations,
heavybrakingandtakingcurveshard.

Loadnomorethan100kgontheroof,

triangle.Placethewarningtriangleinalocationthatisappropriateforthetraffic

Makesurethatthewarningtrianglewithcase
issecurelyfastenedinthecompartment.
TemporaryspareThesparewheel
1isonlyintendedtobeused
fortheshorttimeittakestogettheordinary
wheelreplacedorrepaired.Replacethe
sparewheelassoonaspossiblewitha
normalwheel.Thecar’shandlingmaybe
alteredbytheuseofthesparewheel.
Neverdrivefasterthan80km/hwithaspare
wheelonthecar.
Bylaw,itisonlylegaltousethesparewheel/
tyretemporarilyinconnectionwithdamageto
atyre.Awheel/tyreofthistypeshouldbe
replacedwithanormalwheel/tyreassoonas
possible.
Rememberalsothatthistyrecombinedwith
thenormaltyreswillaffectdrivingcharacter-
istics.Onfourwheeldrivevehiclesexcess
speedmayalsodamagethetransmission.

–Holddowntherearedgeofthewheel
whilecrankingitin.
–Placethewheelabovetherearaxle,
againstthefloor.
Cranktothestoppoint.
Checkthatthewheelisfirmlysecured.
Thejackingpointsarecentredunderthe
bottomofthedoors.RemovingwheelsRemembertosetoutthewarningtriangleif
youmustchangeawheelinatraffickedarea.
Therearetwojackingpointsoneachsideof
thecar,centredunderthebottomofthe
doors.–Parkthecaronaneven,firmsurfacewith
noincline.
–Applytheparkingbrakeandengage1st
gear(manualgearbox)ormovethegear
selectortoP(automaticgearbox).Place
chocksoneithersideofthewheels
remainingontheground-usestonesor
woodenblocks.
–Takeoutthejack,wheelbraceandcrank,
seelocationpage153.
–Usethewheelbracetoloosethewheel
bolts½-1turn.Turnanticlockwise.
WARNING!
Checkthattherightattachmentpointsare
beingused.Aproductionanchoragewith
pinislocatedbetweenthejackingpoints.
Thisisnotstrongenoughtousetoliftthe
car.Ifyouareunsureaboutthelocationof
thejackingpoints,contactyourVolvo
workshop.Anincorrectlyfittedjackcould
damagethedoorandbody.

–Liftthecaruntilthewheelisfree.–Removethewheelboltsandliftoffthe
wheel.
Fittingthewheel–Cleanthecontractsurfacesonthewheel
andhub.
–Fitthewheel.Screwthewheelnuts.
–Lowerthecarsothatthewheelcannot
rotate.
–Tightenthewheelboltsalternatelyandin
torquesteps.Tighteningtorque:
140Nm(14.0kpm).Itisimportantthat
theyaretightenedtothecorrecttorque.
Checkwithatorquewrench.
–Screwthejackallthewaydownbefore
returningittothecargocompartment.
Thensecureitinplace.
–Checkthatthenewtyrehasthecorrect
amountofpressure.
NOTE!Therearetwodifferenttypesofwheel
boltsdependingonwhetherornotyourcar
hassteeloraluminiumrims;boltsusedwith
aluminiumrimshavealoose,rotatingring.
Boltsusedwithsteelrimshavenorotating
ring.
Makesuretousethecorrecttypeofbolt.If
youareunsure,checkwiththenearestVolvo
workshop.

part(7)whenonlythecompressoristobe
usedforinflation.–Connecttheairhose(4)totheairvalve
onthetyre.
–Connectthelead(5)tothe12Vpower
point.Readthepressureonthe
compressor.Ifthetyrepressureisbelow
1.3bar,thetyrehasnotbeensufficiently
wellsealed.Thejourneyshouldnotbe
continuedunderthesecircumstances.
Contactatyrecentre.
–Ifthetyrepressureishigherthan1.3bar,
thetyreshouldbepumpeduptothe
pressurestatedonthetyrepressure
label,seepage151foritslocation.
Releasepressurewiththereduction
valve(8)ifthetyrepressureistoohigh.
–Turnoffthecompressor,theswitch(2)
shouldbeinposition0.Detachtheair
hoseandunplugthelead.Replacethe
valve’sdustcap.
–Putthelead(5)andairhose(4)intothe
sidecompartment(3).
–Putthepuncturerepairkitbackunderthe
floorinthecargoarea.
Thecompressorshouldnotrunformorethan
tenminutesatatime.Letitcoolafterwardsas
thereisariskofoverheating.
NOTE!Thecanisterwithsealantandhose
shouldbereplacedafteruse.
WARNING!
Neverstandnexttothetyrewhenthe
compressorisrunning.Beparticularly
observantofthetyrewalls.Ifcracks,irreg-
ularitiesorotherdamageappears,turnoff
thecompressorimmediately.Underthese
circumstancesyourjourneyshouldnot
continue.Contactanauthorisedtyre
centre.
WARNING!
Youshouldnotdrivefasterthan80km/h
aftertheemergencytyrerepairkithas
beenused.Thetemporarilysealedtyre
mustbechangedassoonaspossible

–Thenpullthebladeupsothatthewiper
armeyepassesbesidethewiperblade
mounting.Fitthenewbladeinreverse
orderandcheckthatitissecurelyin
place.
NOTE!Keepinmindthatthewiperbladeon
thedriver’ssideisstraightandhasaspoiler
whiletheoneonthepassengersideis
curved.Thespoileronthedriver’sside
shouldsitonthelowersideoftheblade.The
curveofthebladeshouldfollowthecurveof
thebottomedgeofthewindscreen.
Replacingrearwindowwiper
blades–Foldoutthewiperarm.
–Removethewiperbladebypullingit
outwardstowardsthetailgate.
–Pressthenewwiperbladeintoposition.

thecar:
1.Relay/fuseboxintheengine
compartment.
2.Fuseboxinthepassengercompartment
withinthesoundbarrieronthedriver’s
side.
3.Fuseboxinthepassengercompartment
atdashboardendondriver’sside.
4.Fuseboxincargocompartment.Ifanelectricalcomponentorfunctiondoes
notwork,thismaybebecausethe
component’sfusewastemporarily
overloadedandblew.
–Lookinthefusediagramtolocatethe
fuse.
–Pulloutthefuseandcheckfromtheside
toseewhetherthecurvedwirehas
blown.
–Ifthisisthecase,replaceitwithanew
fuseofthesamecolourandamperage.
Thereareanumberofsparefusesinthe
coverontheendofthedashboard.Thereare
alsoplierswhichfacilitatetheremovaland
fittingoffuses.Ifthesamefuseblowsrepeatedly,thereisa
faultinthecomponentandyoushould
contactanauthorisedVolvoworkshopto
haveitchecked.
