engine power is applied smoothly and comfortably , and better fuel
economy is achieved.
The transmiss ion selects the appropria te gear ra tio (upshifts and
downshiftsl automatically based on set driving programs
=> page 136.
You can a lso manually select a shift program (tiptronic®)
=> page 136 .
You should note, that the multit ronic transmission differs from a
conventional Automatic Transmission. In the multitronic transmis
sion the engine power is transferred via a link -plate chain, rather
than by a conventional torque converter. The multitronic transmis
sion greatly reduces vehicle "creep"" when at a standstil l and the
transmission is in
D Sor R. •

Driving the multitroni c®
The gear ratio is continuously adapted to vehicle speed
and load.
Start ing the engine

- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Press and hold the release butto n in the se lector lever
handle and move the selector lever from
P (a lternatively
N ) to D (alternatively S) and release the button.
- Wait br iefly u ntil the transm ission has shif ted (you will
fee l a slight movem ent) .
- Rem ove your foot from the b rake p edal a nd acce lera te
=> & .

- Shift only between D and R when the ve hicle is at a fu ll
stop and the eng ine is runn ing at idle speed .
Stopping
- Press a nd h old the brake pedal un til the vehicle has com e
to a comp le te stop.
- Keep the brake pedal depressed so that the vehic le
cann ot ro ll forwa rd or ba ckw ard while it is id lin g => & .
- Once stop ped,
do not depress the acce lera to r p edal to
r ev up the engine => & .
Parking
- Press and hold the brake pedal until the vehicle has come
to a complete stop .

Wheel bolts
Wheel bolts must always be tightened to the correct
torque .
The design of wheel bo lts is matched to the factory installed rims . If
different rims are fitted, the correct wheel bolts with the right length
and correctly shaped bolt heads must be used. This ensures that
whee ls are fitted securely and that the brake system functions
correctly .
I n certain circumstances, you may not use wheel bolts from a
different vehicle -even if it is the same model~ page 318.
& WARNING
Improperl y tightened or maintained wheel bolt s can be come loose
c au sing lo ss of control , a co llis ion and seriou s personal injur y.
• Alwa ys keep the wheel bolt s and the th reads in the wheel hubs
c lean so the wheel bolt s can turn ea sily and be properl y tightened.
• Never gre ase or oil the wheel bolt s and the thre ad s i n the wheel
hub s. They can become lo ose while drivin g if gre ased or oiled ,
e ven if tig hten ed to th e specifi ed torque .
• Onl y use wheel bo lt s th at bel ong to the rim being in sta lled.
• Nev er use differ ent wheel s bolt s on your vehicle.
• Alway s m aintai n the corre ct t ightenin g to rq ue for the whee l
bo lt s to r edu ce the ri sk of a whe el los s. If the tighten ing torque of
t h e w heel bolt s is too l ow, they c an loose n a nd com e out when th e
v ehicl e is mov ing . If th e tighte ning torque is t oo high, the whe el
b ol ts an d threads can be dam ag ed and the whee l can become
loo se .
0 Note
The specified torque for the wheel bolts is 90 ft lb (120 Nm) with a
tolerance of ± 7,4 ft lb(± 10 Nm). Torque whee l bolts diagonally.
After changing a wheel, the torque must be checked as soon as possible with a torque wrench
-preferably by an authorized Audi
dea ler or qua lified workshop .•
Low aspect ratio tires
Your Audi is fac tory-equipped with low aspect ratio tires. These tires
have been thorough ly tested and been selected specifically for your
model for their superb performance, road feel and hand ling under
a variety of driving conditions . Ask your authorized Audi dealer for
more details.
The low aspect ratio of these t ires is ind icated by a numera l of 55 or
l e ss in the tire's size designation . The numera l represents the ratio
of the tire's sidewa ll height in relat ion to its tread w idth expressed
in percentage. Conventiona l tires have a height/width ratio of 60 or
more .
T he perform ance of lo w-as pect-rati o tire s is part ic ul arl y s ensit ive to
improp er infla tion pr essure. It i s there fore important that low
a s pect ra tio tir es are inflated to the sp ec ified pre ssure an d th at th e
i nfl ation pre ssure is regularl y checked and m aintained . T ir e pres
s ure s should b e checked a t lea st once a month and alw ays before a
long trip~ page 274, "Checking tire pressure".
What you can d o to avoid tire a nd rim dama ge
Low aspect ratio tires can be damaged more easi ly by impact with
potho les, curbs, gull ies or ridges on the road, particularly if the tire
is underinflated.
In order to minimize the occurrence of impact damage to the tires
of your vehic le, we recommend that you observe the fo llowing
precautions:
• Always maintain recommended inflation pressures . Check your
tire pressure every 2,000 miles (3,000 km) and add air if necessary .
• Drive careful ly on roads with potholes, deep gullies or ridges.
The impact from driving through or over such obstacles can
damage your tires. Impact with a curb may also cause damage to
your tires . .,_

5. Take the flat wheel off and then put the spare on
=> page 297.
6. Tighten all wheel bolts lightly.
7.
Lower the vehicle with the jack.
8. Use the wheel bolt wrench and
firmly tighten all wheel
bolts
=> page 295.
9. Put the decorative wheel cover* back on.

page 296 and ~ page 298. •
After changing a wheel
A wheel change is not complete without the following
actions.
- Store and secure the replaced wheel in the spare wheel
well.
- Put the tool case and the jack back in place in the luggage
compartment .
- Check the
tire pressure on the spare wheel immediately
after mounting it.
- As soon as possible , have the
tightening torques on all
wheel bolts checked with a torque wrench. The correct
tightening torque is 90 ft lb (120 Nm).
- Have the flat tire
replaced as soon as possible.
[ i ] Tips
• If you notice while changing a tire that the wheel bolts are
corroded and difficult to turn, then they should be replaced before
you check the tightening torque.
• Drive at reduced speed until you have the tightening torques
checked .•

Decorative wheel covers
The decorative wheel covers must be removed first to
access the wheel bolts.

the hole on the center hub piece.

The caps must be removed first from the wheel bolts
before the bolts can be unscrewed.

- Push the plastic clip provided with the onboard tool kit
down over the wheel bolt cap until it engages.
- Pull on the properly engaged plastic clip to extract the
cap:::> fig. 217.
Refitting
- Place the caps over the wheel bolts and push them back
1n.
The caps are there to protect and keep the wheel bolts clean.•
Loosening and tightening the wheel bolts
The wheel bolts must be loosened before raising the
vehicle.

-Fit the wheel bolt wrench over the wheel bolt and push it
down as far as it will go.
- Close your grip around the end of the wrench handle for
maximum torque and turn the wheel bolts counter-clock
wise about one single turn in the direction of arrow

Tightening Fit the wheel bolt wrench over the wheel bolt and push it
down as far as it will go.
- Close your grip around the end of the wrench handle for
maximum torque and turn each wheel bolt clockwise
until it sits tight. .,

• Check the tire pressure on the spare immediately after
mounting.
• Have the wheel bolt t ightening torque checked with a torque
wrench as soon a s possible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified se rvice station .
• On steel and alloy wheel rims , the wheel bolts are correctly tight
ened with a torque of 90
ft lb 1120 Nm ).
• If you notice while changing a tire that the wheel bolts are
corroded and diffi cult to turn while changing a tire , they should be
replaced before you check the tightening torque .
• Replace the flat tire with a new one and have it installed on your
vehicle as soon as possible . Remount the wheel cover.
Until then , drive with extra care and at reduced speeds .
& WARNING
• If you are going to equip your vehicle with tires or r ims which
differ from those which were factory installed , then be sure to read
the information
~ page 279 , "New tires and replacing tires and
wheels ".
• Always make sure the damaged wheel or even a flat tire and
the jack and tool kit are properly secured in the luggage compart
ment and are not loose in the passenger compartment .
• In an accident or sudden maneuver they could fly forward ,
injur ing anyone in the vehicle .
• Always store damaged wheel , jack and tools securely in
luggage compartment . Otherwise , in an accident or sudden
maneuver they could fly forward, causing injury to passengers in
the vehicle .
