adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive light adapts to
curves in the road depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering angle. This provides
b etter lighting through the curve . The system
operates at speeds between app roximately
6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
light) - the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the side of the vehicle is illuminated
better when turning .
The adaptive light and the co rnering light only
function when the switch is in the AU TO posi­
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
--
- Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to assist
the driver . They do not relieve the driver
of his responsibility to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manually ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For example, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So always
switch on the headlights
io under these
weather conditions and when driving in
the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lighting systems described here.

The rear fog lights* should only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic. ..,.

-The light sensor * for headl ight control is
l ocated in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures .
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

-When yo u remove you r key from the igni­
tion w hile the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open.
- In cool or damp weather, t he ins ide of
the headlights, turn signa ls and tail
li ghts can fog ove r due to the tem pera ­
ture diffe ren ce betw een the inside and
outside. They will clear shor tly after
swi tching t hem on. This d oes not aff ect
the service life of the ligh ting.
- In the even t of a ligh t sensor malfunc­
tion, the drive r is no tifie d in the inst ru ­
ment cluster disp lay ~

not be able to pull the head restra int out of

So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed
down complete ly when the rear seats are not
occupied.

Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: wit h memory fu nctio n
The memo ry function a llows you to quickly
and eas ily s to re and reca ll personal seating
profiles for the dr iver. The memory func tion is
operated through the master key and the memory buttons in the driver's door .
The driver's seating profi le is stored and as­
signed to the master key each t ime the vehicle
is locked. The seating p rof ile is recalled auto­
matica lly when the vehicle is un locked. If two
peop le use one vehicle, it is recommended t
h at each person always uses "their own"
master key .
Up to 2 seat p rofiles can be stored i n the
memo ry but tons in the drive r's door . Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
lected at any time.
In add ition to the dr iver's se at settings, yo u
c a n a lso store and access the exterior mirror
adjus tment setti ngs * using the remote con­
tro l key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to veh icles: w it h seat memory
To assign the dr iver's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the vehicle, the
funct ion must be act ivated in the radio or
MMI*

Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTO I button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution. The
LE D in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are displayed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems *, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately.
The settings are also d isplayed in the climate
con trol system display.
IOFFI Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOF FI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off.
It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from
outside is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off.
IACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the w indows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero.
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi ­
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior. We recommend

Setup
The basic climate control settings can be ad­
justed in the radio or MM!*.

Automatic recirculation*
When switched on, automatic recirculation
contro ls the recirculation mode automatica lly.
If the windows fog up, press the

Synchronization*
When synchronization is sw itched on, the
same settings are applied to both the drive r
a n d front passenger, except for the seat heat­
ing/ventilation *. Synchronization switches off
when you ad just the settings on the front pas­
senger's side.

press ing and ho lding the knob on the driver's

St eering lock
The steering locks when you t urn the engine
off us ing the I STAR T ENGINE STOP I button
and open the dr iver's door. The locked stee r­
i ng helps p reven t vehicle theft.
Emergency off
If necessary, the eng ine ca n be sw itched off
with the selector leve r in the R o r D/S pos i­
tions. To do so, step on the brake pedal and
p ress and hold the
I START ENGINE STOP I but­
ton vehicle speed must be less th an 6 mph
(10 km/h).
_& WARNING
- Never t urn off the eng ine before the ve­
hicle has come to a complete stop . The
full f unction o f the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usua lly would, this could
lead to crashes and se rious injur ies.
- For safety reasons, you s hould always
par k your vehicle with the se lector lever
in P. Ot herwi se, the ve hicle co uld i nad­
vertent ly roll away.
- T he ra diator fan ca n continue to ru n for
up to 10 mi nutes even after yo u have
tu rne d off the eng ine and remove d the ignit
ion key. T he radiator fan can a lso
tur n on again if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key w ith you whenever
you leave your ve hicle. Otherw ise, the
eng ine could be sta rted or elect rical
equ ipme nt such as the power windows
could be ope rated. This can lead to seri­
o us injury.

If the engine has bee n under heavy load
fo r an extended pe riod, heat bu ilds up in
the engine compartment after the engine
i s sw itched off -there i s a r is k of damag ing
the e ngine. A llow the eng ine to run at i dle
for about two minutes before switching it
off.
Driver messages

This message appears and a warning tone
sounds if you open the d river's door when the
ignition is sw itched on.
No key id entified
This message appears when t he
I S TART ENGI NE STOPI button is pressed if
there is no master key ins ide the veh icle or if
the system does not recognize it . Fo r exam­
ple, the master k ey cannot be recognized if it
is covered by an object (e.g. al uminum b rief
case) which
screens the radio s ignal. Elec tron­
ic dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Press brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a veh icle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
Press clutch pedal to sta rt engine
T his message ap pears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a vehicle
with a manual transmission. .,.

vehicle speed exceeds the set speed by about
3 mph (3 km/h). At the same time, a warning
symbol appears in the d isp lay . The symbol's
appeara nce m ight be d ifferent in some mod­
els.
The speed warning system has one or two*
warn ing thresholds that f unct ion independ ­
ently of each other and that have somewhat
d ifferent purposes:
Speed warn ing 1
You can use speed warning 1 to set the maxi­
m um speed w hile you are driv ing. T his setting
will remain in effect until you turn off the igni­
tion, assuming that you have not changed or
reset the setting.
The . (USA
models) ;a (Canada models)
speed warning symbol in the warning 1 dis­
p lay appears whe n you exceed the maximum
speed. It goes out when the speed fa lls below
the stored max imum speed .
The speed warning symbo l w ill also go out if
the speed exceeds the stored max imum speed
by more than about 25 mph (40 km/h) for at
least 10 seconds. The stored maximum speed
is deleted .

Speed warning 2*
Sto ring warning 2 is recommended if you al­
ways want to be reminded of a certain speed,
for example when yo u are traveling in a coun­
try that has a general maximum speed limit,
or if you do not want to exceed a specified
speed for winter tires.

speed warning 2 symbo l appears in the dis­
play when you exceed the stored speed lim it.
Unlike warning 1, it will not go out until the
vehicle speed drops below the stored speed
lim it.

- If the selector lever is unintentionally
moved into N while you are driving, take
your foot
off the accelerator pedal and
wait for the engine to return to idle
speed before selecting a driving position .
- Never shift into R or P when the vehicle is
in motion .
- Never get out of the driver's seat when
the engine is running.
- If you must get out of the vehicle, move
the selector lever securely into the P po­
sit ion and apply the parking brake firmly.
- If the engine must remain running, never
have any driving position engaged when
checking under the hood . Make sure the
selector lever has securely engaged and
is locked in P with the parking brake
firmly set ¢

Otherwise, any increase in engine
speed may set the vehicle in motion,
even with the parking brake applied.
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driv­
er 's safety belt is engaged in the buckle.

Transmission 85
The selector lever position engaged appears
next to the selector lever as well as in the in­
strument cluster display .
P -Park
In this selector lever position the transmis­
s ion is mechanically locked. Engage P only
when the vehicle is

T o shift in or out of position P, you must first
press and hold the brake pedal and then press
the re lease button in the selector lever handle
while moving the selecto r lever to or from P.
You can shift out of this position only with the
ignition on.
R- Reverse
The transmission will automatically select the
lowest gear ratio when you shift into reverse.
Select R only when the vehicle is at a
full stop
and the engine is running at idle speed ¢ & in

Before you move the selector lever to R, press
both the button in the handle of the selector
lever
and the brake pedal at the same time .
When the ignition is on, the backup lights illu­
minate when the selector lever is moved into

In the D/S pos ition, the transmission can be
operated either in the normal D mode or in
the S sport mode . To select the S sport mode,
pull the selector lever back briefly . Pulling the
lever back again will se lect the normal D ...,

ments, tap the switch again to the left or
right. The distance between the two veh icles
will change in the instrument cluster d is­

When approaching a moving vehicle up ahead,
the adaptive cru ise cont rol system brakes to
matc h that object's speed and then maintains
the stored d istance. If the veh icle ahead ac ­
celerates, adaptive cruise control will also ac ­
celerate up to the stored speed .
The highe r the speed, the greater the distance

Following other vehicles too closely in­

stop and makes it even more necessary
to pay close attention to traffic.

good judgment, and select a safe follow­

- If a co llision is imminent, the system will
first provide an
acute warning by bri efly and
sharp ly app ly ing the brakes .
- If you do not react to the ac ute warning ,
braking guard can brake within the limits of
the system. This reduces the veh icle speed
in the event of a collis ion.
- At speeds under 20 mph (30 km/h), the sys ­
tem can in it iate a complete deceleration
s hortly before a collision .

- If the Audi braking guard senses that you
are not braking hard enough when a colli­
sion is imminent, it can increase the braking
force .
Which functions can be contr oll ed ?
You can sw itch Audi braking g uard and the
distance/approach warning on or off in the ra­
d io or MMI Qpage 104, Set tings in the ra­
dio/MM!.
A WARNING
Lack of attention can cause col lisions, oth­
er accidents and serious persona l injuries.
The Audi b raking guard is an assist system
and cannot prevent a collis ion by itself.
The driver must always intervene. The dr iv­
er is always responsible for braking at the
correct time.
- Always pay close attention to traffic,
even when the Audi braking guard is
switched on. Be ready to intervene and
be ready to take comp lete control when­
ever necessary. Always keep the safe and
legal distance between your vehicle and
vehicles up ahead .
- Audi braking guard works within limits
and w ill not respond outs ide the system
limits, for examp le when approaching a
stopped vehicle or stationary obstacle
(end of a traff ic jam or veh icle that has
broken down in traffic).
- Always remember that the radar s ensor
for the A udi braking guard works only
within defined detect ion and range limits
l ) Th is is not available in some c oun tries .
that may prevent the proper detection of
other veh icles.
- The radar sensor's function and range
can be reduced by rain, snow and heavy
spray. Moving veh icles up ahead may not
be prompt ly detected or may not be de­
tected at all .
- Reflective surfaces including crash barri­
ers or tunne l entrances may impair the
function of the radar sensor .
(D Tips
- You can cancel the braking that is in it iat­
ed by the system by braking yourse lf, by
accelerating not iceably or by swerving .
- Audi braking guard error messages

- Keep in mind that brak ing guard can
brake unexpectedly. Always secure any
cargo or objects that you are transport­
ing to reduce the risk of damage or in­
jury .
