the anti-theft warning system. Have the
malfunction corrected by an author ized

gency, for example, in place of the ign ition key

not carry it on your key ring .

Number of keys
You can check the number of assigned keys to
you r vehicle <=>
page 11. This allows you to
make sure you have re ceived all of the keys
when you purchase a used vehicle.
Data in th e mast er ke y
During driving, service and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas­
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you abo ut the work yo ur ve­
hicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with
convenience key*.
Person al comf ort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own'' master key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, pe rsonal
convenience settings for the following sys ­
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate control
- Powe r locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive se lect*
T he sto red settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignition .
A WARNING

-Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock . Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in t he
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle

keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or act ivate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power w indows etc . Un­
supervised operation of any veh icle sys­
tem by ch ildren can res ult in serious in­
Jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col ­
um n loc k co uld suddenly e ngage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- The operation of the remote contro l key
c a n be tempo rarily disrupted by in terfer­
ence from tran smi tters in t he v ici nity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy ra nge (e.g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).

- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switches il­
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pu lling on the door
handle .
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock . Pull the hand le
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive .
- locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behind in the vehicle, especially
ch ildren.
@ Tips
Your vehicle is locked automatically at a
speed of
9 mph (15 km/h) (Auto lock)
r=:>poge 32. You can unlock the vehicle
again using the opening function in the
power locking system switch[@].
Setting power locking
In the radio/MM!*, you con set which doors
the central locking system will unlock.
~ Select : ICARI funct ion button > Central lock­
ing .

control button > Vehicle settings > (Central
locking)*.

- Select ing off/All and pressing the Im button
on the remote control key unlocks the entire
veh icle.
- Selecting
on/Driver and pressing the Im but­
ton on the remote control key once un locks
only the driver's door. In vehicles with a con ­
venience key*, only the door whose handle
you pull will unlock. If you press the
l@J but­
ton twice, the entire vehicle will unlock . If
you press the
Ii button, the entire vehicle

gency release in vehicles with a fixed rear
seat backrest, make sure the bracket under
the rear bench seat

Trunk escape handle
In case of an emergency, the luggage com­
partment lid can be opened from the inside using the trunk escape handle.

The trunk escape handle inside the luggage
compartment lid is made of fluorescent mate­
rial to g low in the dark .

The trunk escape handle is to be used only
in an emergency .
@ Tips
The emergency re lease leve r shou ld never
be used as a handle for closing the lug­
gage compartment lid.
Child safety locks
Child safety locks in the rear doors
The child safety locks® prevent the rear
doors from opening from the inside.

When the child safety locks are activated, the

When lowering or raising the sunshade,
make sure there is nothing in its way and
that it has a free path to travel. This could
cause personal injury .
@ Tips
-Pressing the button lt!tl several times
consecutively can tr igger the overload
protection . The sun shade can only be ex­
te nded/retracted again after a b rief wa it­
ing period.
- The rear window sun shade only func­
tions when the veh icle inter ior is warmer
than 14°F (-10°C).
Wiper and washer system

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­

(D -Interval mode. To extend/shorten the
wiper intervals, move the switch @to the
left/right. In vehicles with a rain sensor* the
wipers turn on in the rain once the vehicle
speed exceeds approximate ly 2 mph (4 km/h) .
The higher the sensitivity of the rain sensor* is
set (switch @to the right), the earlier the
windshie ld w ipers react to moisture on the
windsh ield . In some models, you can sw itch
rain sensor mode
off and switch intermittent
mode on in the MM I*. Select:
I CAR I funct ion

> Rain
sensor. In intermittent mode,
you can adjust the interval time using the@
switch.

@ -Fast wip ing
© -Single wipe
®-Clean the windshield. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one
afterwipe operation after several seconds
while driving. You can switch this function
off
by moving the lever to position @within 10
seconds of the afterwipe operat ion. The after­
wipe function is reactivated the next time the
ignition is sw itched on.
Cleaning the headlights* . The headlight wash­
er system* operates only when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to position @,
the headlights are washed in intervals.
& WARNING
- The rain sensor is only intended to assist
the driver. The driver is still responsib le
for manually switching the wipers on ac ­
cording to the visibility cond itions.
- The windshield may not be treated with
water-repell ing windshield coating
agents. Unfavorable conditions, such as
wetness, darkness, low sun, can result in increased glare. Wiper blade chatter is
also possib le.
- Properly functioning windsh ield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and
safe driving

(D Note
- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windshield. Switching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Prior to using a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched
off (lever
in position @). This helps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the windsh ield wiper system. ..,.

Opening rear cupholders
~ To open the cupholder, press on the symbol

~ To adjust the arm @, swing it in the direc­
tion of the arrow.
~ Place the beverage in the holder and release
the arm. The arm swings back by itself and
automatically secures the beverage .
Closing cupholders
~ To close the cupholder, press on the center
section between the two arms and push the
cupholder in the slot as far as it will go.
A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident
and personal injury.
- Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,
in the vehicle while it is moving . In case
of an accident, sudden braking or o ther
vehicle movement, hot liqu id could spill,
caus ing scald ing burns . Spilled hot liquid
can also ca use an accident and personal
injury.

-Use on ly soft cups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and glasses can cause injury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupho lder or adapter as an
ashtray -risk of fire.
(D Note
Only drink containers with lids should be
carried in the cupholder. Liquid could spill
out and damage your vehicle's electronic
equipment or stain the upholstery, etc.
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked.

glove compartment lid upward until the lock
engages .

On the right side in the glove compartment is
a holder with the key body into which the
eme rgency key must be clipped to be able to
start the veh icle.
&_ WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving .

Always distribute loads evenly . Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

The maximum perm iss ible roof we ight is
2 00 lb (90 kg ). The roof weight is the total of
the we ight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are car ry ing. You m ust also
not exceed the maximum load weight for the
roof rack you are using.
When us ing a roof rack system which has a
l owe r load carry ing capac ity, you must not use
up the total max imum pe rm issib le load carry ­
i ng capac ity specified
above . Instead, you
should load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause se rious personal injury .
- Make sure the roof rack is insta lled exact­
ly as specified
above ¢ page 63.
- Always use suitable mounting straps for
sec uring items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shift ing o r fly ing for­
wa rd.
- Items on the roof rack must always be sec urely mounted.
- The use of a roof rack can negative ly af­
fect the way a vehicle handles . Ca rgo
that is larg e, h eavy, bulky, long o r flat
will have a g reater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overal l ha ndling. Always
dr ive slowly, avo id sudden braking and
mane uvers when transporting cargo o n
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the maxim um permissible
load carrying capacity of the roof of your
veh icle, the permissible axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­ cle ¢
page 268, Weights.

Make sure that the opened rear lid does
not come in contact with the cargo on the
r oof.
@ For the sake of the environment
As a result of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
us ing fuel unnecessarily. So
remove the
r oof rack after using it .

You can only enlarge the luggage compart­
ment if the backrest is not locked.
A WARNING
-The backrest must always be securely
latched so that the safety belt of the cen­
ter seating position can work properly to
help protect the occupant.
- The backrest must be securely latched in
posit ion so that no items contained in
the luggage compartment can slide for­
ward upon sudden braking .
-Always check whether the latch is fully
engaged by pulling the seatback for­
ward.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat
hardware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt hardware can break in a
crash . Inspect the belts periodically .
Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, buckles, or retractors must be re­
placed.
(D Note
- If yo u move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is fo lded forward, yo u
could damage the head restraints on the
rear seat.
- Slide the belt guide on the outside safety
belt all the way up before folding the
backrest back forward. Make sure the
seat belt is not pinched or damaged
when the rear seat backrest if folded
back. Other objects should be removed

In a collision, the laws of physics mean that
even smaller items that are loose in the vehi­
cle w ill turn into heavy m iss iles that can cause
serious injury. Items in the vehicle pick up

kinetic energy which varies with the vehicle
and the weight of the item . Vehicle speed is
the most significant factor .
F or example, in a frontal coll is ion at a speed
of 30 mph ( 48 km/h), the forces acting on a
10 -lb (5 kg) object are about 20 times the
normal weight of the item. Th is means that
the weight of the item would suddenly be the
equivalent of about 200 lbs (90 kg). One can
eas ily imagine the injur ies that an item of that
weight flying freely through the passenger compartment can cause in a co llision at a
speed conside red relat ively low.
& WARNING
Weak, d amaged or improper s traps used
to secure items to t ie-downs can fail du r­
ing hard brak ing or in a coll ision and cause
serious persona l in jury .
- Always use suitab le retaining straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help pre­
vent items from shifting or flying for­
ward.
- Never attach a child seat tether strap to
a tie-down.
- For strength-related reasons, the mount­
ing hooks can only be used to secure ob­
jects weighing up to 10 lb. (5 kg). Heav i­
er objects w ill not be adequately secured
- there is a r isk of injury .
Ski sack
Applies to vehicles: with sk i sack
Long objects such as skis or snowboards can
be transported in the ski sack.

dent, the load could be d isplaced and
cause injury to occupants .
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protection. A lways fasten the belt
tightly around the sack and its contents

- You must secure the ski sack with the
strap afte r load ing.
- Make sure all objects that you are trans­
porting in the pass-through are sec ured .

@ Tips
-Never stow the ski sack away when it is
still wet or damp (for example, snow
melting from skis) . A llow it to dry com­
plete ly before stowing it away .
- When transporting skis or snowboards,
tighten the securing strap between the
bindings.
- Position skis in the ski sack w ith the
po inted ends facing the front and ski
poles w ith the pointed ends facing the
rear .
- You can lock or unlock the pass-through
using the mechanical key . This prevents
any access to the luggage compartment
from the vehicle interio r.
Parcel shelf
The parce l shelf behind the rear seatback can
be used to carry light items of cloth ing.
& WARNING
No heavy or hard objects should be placed
on the parcel she lf. They are a hazard to
the vehicle occupants during sudden brak­
ing. The is a r isk of injury .
Please make sure that the heating wires
for the rear window defogger are not dam­
age by abrasive objects.
To ensure problem -free ventilation, the
ventilation s lots between the rear window
and the parce l shelf must not be covered .
