the over load protection . The sun shade can only be
extended/re tracted again af ter a brief waiting period.
• The rea r window sun shade only functions when the vehicle inte ­

G) -Interva l mode. To extend/shorten the wiper inte rvals, move the
sw itc h @ to the lef t/right. In vehic les wi th a rain sensor*, the w ind­
shield wipers are activated automatically starting at a speed of
2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivity of t he rain senso r* is set
(switch @to the right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshie ld.

© -C lean the windshie ld. To eliminate wate r droplets, the wind­
shie ld wiper performs one afterwipe operation after several
seconds whi le d riving. You can switch this function off by moving
the lever to pos ition © within 10 seconds o f the afterwipe opera ­
tion. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition
is sw itched on.
Cleaning the headlights *. The headlight washer system * only func ­
tions when the light is switched on . The headlights are automati ­
ca lly c leaned the first time and every fifth time the lever is moved to
pos ition
® · They are also cleaned every time you hold the lever in
pos ition © for longer than 2 seconds.
& WARNING
• The rain sen sor is only intended to a ssi st the driver . The driver
is still responsible for manually swit ching the wiper s on according
to the visibility conditions .
• The windshield may not be treated with water -repelling wind ­
s hield coating agents . Unfavorab le conditions , such as wetnes s,
darkness , low sun , can result in increased glare . Wiper bl ade
c hatter is also po ssible .
• Properly functioning windshield w iper blades are required for a
clear view and safe driving

• I n the case of frost, check whether the windshie ld wiper blades
are frozen to the windshield . Switching on the windshield wipers
ca n damage the wiper b lades !
• P rior to using a car wash, the windshield wiper system must be
switched off (lever in posi tion 0). This prevents un intentiona l
switching on and damage to the windshield wiper system. .,.

• The windshield wipers are switched off when the ignition is
turned off. Activate the windshield wipers after the ignition is switched back on by moving the windshield wiper lever to any posi­
tion .
• Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades result in streaking. This
can affect the rain sensor * function. Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
• The rain sensor * is part of the interval wiping system. Turning off
the ignition will also deactivate the rain sensor*. To reactivate the sensor, switch off the interval wiping function, then switch it back
on again.
• The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield washer system are
heated at low temperatures when the ignition is on.
• When stopping temporarily, e.g. at a traffic light, the set speed of
the windshield wipers is automatically reduced by one speed .•
Service position
The windshield wiper blades are replaced in the service
position .

• On -changing the windshield wiper blades can only be done if
you bring the wiper arms to the service position

also avoid paint damage to the hood when working on the wipers in
this position .
• Off -the windshield wipers are moved to their initial position
again.
0 Note
Never maneuver your vehicle with the front windshield wiper arms
raised since they will automatically be moved back to their basic
position above a speed of 3 mph (6 km/h) and can scratch the hood.

• You can also use the service position, for example, if you want to
protect the windshield from icing by using a cover . _,,

• The service position automatical ly switches to Off when you
opera te the windshie ld w iper lever, or speed exceeds 3 mph (6
km/h). •

sponge or a soft brush .
• For yo ur safety , you should repla ce the wiper b lade s o nce or
twice a year. See your authori zed Audi dealer for replacem ent
bl ade s.

• The windshield wiper blades must only be replaced when in the
service position ~
page 62! Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint
on the hood or the windshie ld w iper motor.
• To prevent damage to the wiper system, always loosen blades
which are frozen to the windshield before operating wipers .
• To prevent damage to wiper blades, do not use gasoline, kero­
sene , paint thinner, or o ther so lven ts on or near the wiper blades.
• To prevent damage to the wiper arms or other components, do
not attempt to move the wipers by hand .

T he best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush . Use a non -abrasive
pla stic ice scraper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ice from w indows and mirrors .
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
these can interfere with the function of the w inds hie ld w iper blades
(chatter).
O il, grease, or silicone res idue can be removed with
glas s cleaner or
silicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a
spec ially fo rmulated so lvent . Please contac t your authorized Audi
dea ler for advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be c leaned on the inside at regular interva ls .
Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted surfaces . Wax residue on the chamois can impair vision
t hrough the windows .

• The windshield mu st not be treated with water -repellent m ate ­
rials . They can in crea se glare under poor v isibilit y conditio ns su ch
a s wetne ss , darkne ss , or when the sun i s low on the hori zon. In
additio n, they can cau se the windsh ield wipers to chatter .

• Never use warm or hot wat er to remove snow and ice from
windows a nd mirrors . This cou ld cause the glass to crack.
• T o prevent damage to the wires of the rear defogger, do not p lace
any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires .
• To he lp prevent dirt from scratching the window, always scrape
in a forward direction -pushing the scraper away from you -never
back and forth. •
Water leaking from the inside of the rear windows may damage
sensitive e lec trical componen ts located eit her u nder the rear parcel
she lf or in the rear trunk area . Always ensure that water never leaks
t hrough the body section of the vehicle. You can do this by using
waterproof protection over the vehic le 's electrical components (e.g .
when instal ling window tinting).

Weatherstrips
Complete car care includes the weatherstrips as well.
-App ly a suitable rubber cond itioner to the weatherstr ips
from t ime to ti me.

r ear lid, etc. must rema in pliable . Spray the weatherstr ips with sil i­
cone or coat them with talcum powder or g lycerin to retain the flex­
ibility of the rubber and to protect them against freezing in the
winter.
