The head restraints on the front seats can be adjusted to
provide safe support to head and neck at the optimum height
=> page 80, fig. 73. Adjust the head restraint so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of your head. If that
is not possible, try to adjust the head restraint so that it is as
close to this position as possible=>
page 80.
Raising/Lowering the head restraint
-Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands and
slide the head restraint upward/downward, until you feel
it click into place=>
page 80, fig. 73.
Electric height adjustment*
Push the switch up or down=> page 80, fig. 74 to adjust
the height of the head restraint.
Refer to=> page 174, "Proper adjustment of head restraints" for
guidelines on how to adjust the height of the front head restraints to
suit the occupant's body size.
& WARNING
• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of serious or fatal neck
injury dramatically.

- To move the head restraint up, hold it at the sides with
both hands and slide it upward until you feel it click into
place.
- To move the head restraint down, press the button ©
=> fig. 75 and slide the head restraint downward.
Removing the head restraints
- Fold the backrest forward=> page 84.
-Move the head restraint upward as far as it can go.

Pull the head restraint out of the backrest at the same
time=:> &.
Installing the head restraints
-Slide the posts on the head restraint down into the guides
until you feel the posts click into place .
Press the button@=:>
page 81, fig. 75 and slide the head
restraint all the way down. You should not be able to pull
the head restraint out of the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to the rear, the head
restraints should be pushed down completely when the rear seats are
not occupied.
& WARNING
• Only remove the rear seat head restraints when necessary in
order to install a child seat. Install the head restraint again imme­
diately once the child seat is removed. Driving without head
restraints or with head restraints that are not properly adjusted
increases the risk of serious or fatal neck injury dramatically.
• Read and heed all WARNINGS~
page 174.

Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several levels.

-To adjust the angle, raise the armrest from the starting

- To bring the armrest back into the starting position, raise
it out of the top detent and fold it back down.
The armrest can slide forward and back. •

• Loose objects in the luggage compartment can slide about
suddenly and alter the vehicle's handling characteristics.

during abrupt maneuvers or accidents and injure occupants.
• Always store objects in the luggage compartment and use suit­
able straps, particularly with heavy objects.

The cargo net/storage net prevents light objects from
sliding about in the luggage compartment.

Fir st, hang the front hooks in the fastening eyelets

Then, hang the
rear hooks in the fastening eyelets.
Storage net
- Engage the hooks on the cargo net in the fastening eyelets
in the floor at the rear of the luggage compartment
=> fig. 81.
- Fold down the attaching hooks in the upper area of the
luggage compar tment, pull the net up and hang the
eye lets on the net into the hooks.
You can use the attaching hooks:::> fig. 81 to hang bags, sacks, etc.
If nothing is attached to the hooks, th ey fo ld back by themselves .
& WARNING
For reasons of strength, only objects with a maximum weight of
5 kg should be carried in the storage net. Heavier objects are not
adequately secured . There is risk of personal injury. •

Folding the seatback forward

• Always check whether the latch is fully engaged by pulling the
sea tback forward.
• Never allow safety belt s to become damaged by being caught
in door or seat hardware .
• Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and damaged belt hardware
can b reak in a crash. Inspect the belts periodically . Belts showing
damage to webbing , bindings , buckles, or retractor s mu st be
replaced.

- Tilt the seatback forward.
Raising the seatback
-Raise the seatback until it is securely latched~& . When
you can no longer see the red mark on the safety knob©
~ page 85, fig. 84, the seat is latched.
The correctly latched seatback (basic position) can be locked and
unlocked with the mechanical key . This prevents any entry from the
vehicle interior into the luggage compartment.
Enlarging the cargo capacity of the luggage compartment is only
possible when the seatback has not been locked with the mechanical
key.

The correctly latched seatback (basic position) ~ & in

page 85 can be locked and unlocked with the mechanical key
next to the release handle. This prevents any entry from the
vehicle interior into the luggage compartment.

Parcel shelf
The par cel shelf behind the rear seatback can be used to
carry li ght items of clo thing .

Please make sure that the heating wires for the rear window defogger

Roof rack
Description
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof luggage rack .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof, you must observe the
following:
• Your vehicle has aerodynam ic rai n gutters molded into the roof.
T his is why co nvent ional roof luggage racks cannot be used . We .._

recommend using roof racks from the Audi original accessories
program.
• These approved roof racks are the basis for a complete roof rack
system . Additional attachments for the basic roof rack are necessary
to safe ly transport luggage, bicycles, surf boards, skis or small boats.
All necessary hardware for these systems is available at your autho­
rized Audi dealer.
• We recommend that you keep the installation instructions for
your roof rack system together with your Owner's literature in the
vehicle .
When should the roof rack be removed?
• Before going thro ugh an automat ic car wash (it is best to ask the
car wash operator for advice).
• When not in use, to reduce fuel consumpt io n, w ind noise and to
guard against theft.
& WARNING
• Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect mounting of an
approved roof rack can cause the roof rack or the items attached
to it to fall off the roof onto the road.
• Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle can cause a crash and
personal injury .
• Only mount the system between the markings shown in
~ fig. 89.
• The roof rack system must be installed exactly according to the
instructions provided.

• Your vehicle warranty does not cover any damages to the vehicle
caused by using roof racks or mounting structures not approved by
Audi for your veh icle. The same applies to damage resulting from
incorrect roof rack installat ion .

• Always check the roof rack mount ings and hardware before each
trip and during a trip to make sure everyth ing is securely tightened. If
necessary, retighten the mountings and check the entire system from
time to time .
• After mounting a roof rack system, or when you transport objects
on the roof of your veh icle, the height of the vehicle is natura lly
increased . Be careful when driving under low bridges or in parking
garages for example. This could cause damage to the load and even
the vehicle itself . •

marked.

When installing the front feet, make sure that they are positioned
exactly on the positioning bolts provided @between the side pane l
and the upper roof frame~ fig. 89. The bo lt is visible as soon as you
push back the seal from the upper roof frame using the insta llation
tool supplied with the roof rack. The rear markings ® are identified
at the uppe r edge of the side glass by two small arrowheads. .,,.

Roof load
T h e cargo on the roof must be securely attached.
H andling characteristics change when cargo is trans ­
p orted.
The pe rmissible roof load for yo ur vehicle is 165 lb s. (75 kg ). The
roof load is a combination of the weight of the carrier system and the
c argo .
When using roof rack systems with a lower load capacity , you cannot
use the maximum permissib le roof load. In t his case, the roof rac k
can o nly be loaded to the weight limit g iven in the insta llation g uide .
& WARNING
• The cargo must be securely attached on the roof rack , other­
wise you ri sk an accident .
• You must under no ci rcumstances exceed the permissible roof
load, the permissible axle loads and the permissible overall
weight of your vehicle· risk of an accident .
• Consider that when transporting heavy objects
or one with a
large surface, the handling characteristics change due to shift in
the center of gravity or the greater surface exposed to the wind. So
adapt your driving and your speed to prevailing conditions .

As a result of the increase wind resistance created by a roof rac k, yo ur
vehicle is using fue l unnecessari ly. So remove the roof rack after
using i t.•
