EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warn ing/indicator light (Electronic
Powe r Control) illuminates when you turn o n
the ignition as a function check.

If th is warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are dr iving, then the re is a mal­
function in the engine elect ron ics. Have
the malfunction corrected as soon as pos­
sible by you r autho rized Aud i dea le r o r
qua lified workshop .
J;. ID Electronic stabilization program
(ESP)
If the Jjj indicator lamp blinks while dr iv ing,
the ESP or ASR (Ant i- Slip Regulation) is active ­
ly regulating .
If the
D] i ndicator lamp ill uminates, the sys­
tem has switched the ESP off. I n this case, you
can switch the ignition off and then on to
switch the ESP on again . The system is func- tion
ing comp lete ly when the indicator lamp
switches off.

Stabili sation program and ABS fault ! See

If the Ii] indicator lamp a nd the ti] ABS indi­
cator lamp illum inate and the driver message

E S P. The brakes s till function with their nor­
mal power, but ABS is not active.

blink, then there is a malfunction somewhe re
in the system. If the light does not i lluminate
when you switch the ign ition on, th is also
means there is a malfunct ion.

The warning/indicator light monitors the
elec tromechanical parking brake.

nates . After the ignition has been t urne d off,
the wa rn ing/ indicato r light cont inues to ill u­
minate for about 30 seconds . If the parking
brake is applied w ith the ign ition t urned off,
the war ning/ indicato r light illum inates for
abo ut 30 seconds .
The wa rning/indicator light wi ll go out when
the pa rking bra ke is re leased .
If the warning/indicator light flas hes continu­
o us ly
after applying the parking bra ke, brak ­
ing fo rce is not s uff icient to prevent the vehi­
cle from rolling unintentionally . Please note
the followi ng:
- If the slo pe of the ground is too steep to

fluid level is low, if there is an ABS system
malfunction or a parking brake malfunction.

It goes out after the engine has been
started. This indicates t hat the brake war ning
light is funct ion ing properly.

you are driv ing, the fluid level in the
brake fluid reservoir is too low. If yo u be ­
lieve that it is safe to do so, proceed im­
mediately at low speed to the nearest
author ized Audi dealer or qualif ied repair
facility and have the brake system in·
spected.
- Always keep in mind that after severa l
brake applications, you will need greater
pressure on the brake pedal to stop your
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum stopping power
in critical s ituations. You must allow fo r
increased braking dis tances. The extra
distance used up by fading brakes could
lead to an accident.

This driver message and the &1r-1 symbol ap­
pear when a system malfunction occurs dur­
ing travel. You can continue to dr ive carefully
at a reduced speed to a qualified workshop .
Steer ing ca n be mo re d iff icult or sensitive
tha n usual. The stee ring wheel can also be at
an angle when dr iv ing str aight.
&1rJ Dynamic steering: initial ization
If th is driver message appears and the &1rJ in­
d icator light is flash ing on the instrument
panel, dynam ic steering is being re initialized .
Once you sta rt the eng ine after this is f inish­
ed, the steering wheel will be easy to move.
Re-initialization might be necessary if the
steer ing whee l was moved ha rd to t he left and
right whi le the vehicle was not moving . The
d isplay goes out as soon as initia lization is
comp lete.

If the master key is no longer in the ve hicle,
you cannot swi tch off the ig nit ion after stop­
ping the engine and you also canno t start the
engine aga in. Yo u also cannot lock the vehicle
from the outside .

If the symbol illumina tes, the ligh t sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
turned on permanently with t he switch in AU­
TO . However, yo u can cont inue to turn the
lights on and off using the light switch. In the
case of a defect i n the rain sensor, the wind­
shield wipe r lever functions are still ava ilab le.
Have the light/ rain senso r checked as soon as
poss ible by an authori zed Audi dealer.

always be replaced at the same time.

Driving w ith bad brakes can cause a colli-
sion and ser ious personal injury.

_& WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around inside the vehicle
whi le driving or when accelerating or
when applying the brakes or when driv­
ing around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locat ions
cannot fa ll out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake, depress the clutch or acceler­
ate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv ­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.

The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked.

glove compartment closed while driving.

Description

The adaptive cruise control driver assistance
program is a combined speed and distance
control system.

Any speed between about 20 mph (30 km/h)
and about 95 mph (150 km/h) can be set and
held with the adaptive cruise control. The sys­
tem also regulates a pre -set distance from the
vehicle ahead within the limits of the system described.
Driving can be more relaxed, particularly on
long trips on interstates or on other highways
that a re generally straight .

You can operate the adaptive cruise contro l
using the lever on the steering wheel column

Improper use of the adaptive cruise con­
trol can cause collisions, other accidents
and serious personal injury.
- Never drive at speeds that are too high
for traffic, road and weather conditions.
- Never follow the vehicle in front so close­ ly that you cannot stop your veh icle safe­
ly . The adaptive cruise control cannot
brake the vehicle safely when you follow
another vehicle too closely. Always re­
member that the adaptive cruise control
has a braking powe r that is only about
25% of the veh icle's maximum braking
abi lity, the automatic braking function
cannot bring the vehicle to a stop .
- Never use adaptive cruise control on
roads where you cannot drive safely at a
steady speed, including city, stop-and-go
or heavy traffic, on winding roads or
when road cond it ions are poor (for exam­
p le, on ice, gravel, in fog, heavy rain or
on wet roads that increase the risk of hy­
d rop laning) .
- The radar sensor 's
vision can be reduced
by rain, snow and heavy spray. This can
resu lt in veh icles dr iving ahead be ing in­
adequately detected or, in some circum­
stances, not detected at a ll.

- Always turn off adap tive c ruise control
when en ter ing turn la nes, highway exit
lanes and construction zones or similar
situations beca use the vehicle will a uto­
mat ically acce le rate to the stored speed.
- Never rest your foot on the accelerator pedal, especially when t he adaptive
cruise contro l is being used because do­
ing so will override the braking function
and prevent the brakes from being ap­ plied by the system when it detects a sit­
uation when the brakes must be applied.
- Always remember that the adaptive
cru ise contro l has limits -it does not

keep a safe distance from vehicle in front of
you or to avoid a rear-end collision . In this sit­

Passi ng anoth er vehicl e
If you move into the passi ng lane and no veh i­
cle is detected ahead, the adaptive cruise con­
trol accelerates to the speed you have set and maintains it.
Overrid e
You can increase your speed at any t ime by
stepp ing on the acce lerator pedal. After yo u
re lease the accelerator pedal, the system ad­
justs back down to the speed you previously set .
@ Tips
Please note that the amount of accelera­
tion the adaptive cruise control uses de­ pends on the Distance setting selected.
DISTANCE 1 gives you accelerat ion that is
dynamic and sporty . DISTANCE 4, o n the
other hand, g ives more moderate accelera­

- Please note that if the adaptive cruise
control has begun braking the vehicle
and the driver chooses to brake the vehi­
cle add itionally, the brakes may fee l
"hard" . This is simply due to the pressure
build- up of the initial braking.
- Adaptive cruise control is sw itched off af ­
ter pressing the footbrake . The speed
saved up this point can be resumed. To resume the saved speed, release the
brake pedal and pull the control lever

- The ACC sensor is dirty. The ACC system is
not reacting, or is not reacting correctly, to
vehicles traveling ahead .
- It is possible that you are driving on a road
with very light traffic
without anything at
the side of the road (e.g. guard rails, traffic
signs, trees). As soon as a vehicle is detected
by the system again, it returns to its control
range and the text message disappears.
The ACC sensor is located in the right front
trim grille

loss of operation due to heavy contamination,
this area should cleaned to restore proper op­
eration.
ACC not available
The text message ACC not available appears,
for example, if the temperature of the brakes
is excessive . Adaptive cruise control is tempo­
rarily not available. A warning tone sounds as
a reminder.
ACC not available!
The text message ACC not available! appears
in the event of a malfunction. Adaptive cruise
control is turned off. A warning tone sounds
as a reminder. Have the system inspected by a
qualified dealership.
ACC sensor blocked !
The text message ACC sensor blocked ! ap­
pears when the ACC system can no longer
guarantee safe detection of objects. Adaptive
cruise control is turned off. A warning tone
sounds as a reminder.
To decide whether it is necessary to switch off
the ACC (ACC sensor blocked
!) or if it is only a
temporary condition (ACC Functionally limit­
ed), the system will also takes into considera­
tion the outside temperature and/or the wind­
shield wiper operation. The
ACC sensor is dirty or blocked (e.g. leaves,
snow).
The sensor should be cleaned to restore prop­
er sensor function¢

Engine speed !
The text message Engine speed ! appears in
vehicles with manual transmission when the driver did not shift up or down in time while
using adaptive cruise control braking or accel­
erating, causing the vehicle to exceed or not
reach the permitted limit speed. This causes
adaptive cruise control to deactivate automat­
ically. A chime sounds as a reminder.
Parking brake!
The text message Parking brake! appears if
emergency braking was manually initiated
with the Electromechanical Parking Brake
(EPB). The adaptive cruise control is turned
off. This is accompanied by a warning tone.
Stabilisation program
The text message Stabilisation program ap­
pears if the Electronic Stabilization Program
(ESP) has intervened. In this case the adaptive
cruise control is automatically turned off. This
is accompanied by a warning tone.
Speed
The set speed in mph (Canada km/h) always
appears when saving or changing the speed in
adaptive cruise control¢

Speed too low
The text message Speed too low appears if
the current speed is too low
to set or to hold
the requested speed.
When setting a desired speed, it must be at
least 20 mph (30 km/h). At speeds below 12
mph (20 km/h), the cruise control is turned
off.
In speeds over 95 mph (150 km/h), the sys-
tem remains active and resumes the speed of .,..
