Child safety lock

The child safety lock prevents the rear doors
from being opened from the inside and the rear
power windows from be operated.

A WARNING
-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leav ing the vehicle, even for a short period
of time . This applies particularly when chil
dren remain in the vehicle . Otherwise chil
dren could start the engine or operate elec
trical equipment (such as power windows),
which increases the risk of an accident.
- A malfunction in the child safety lock could
allow the rear doors to be opened from the
inside, which increases the risk of an acci
dent.

the master key, but access to the luggage com

@ Tips
Please note that the luggage compartment
can still be accessed from the vehicle interior
in vehicles with fixed rear seat backrests or
ones that cannot be locked, even when the
valet park ing funct ion is switched on.
Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Home Link)

With the garage door opener ( Homelink), you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
sec urity systems or house lights from inside your
vehicle. Three buttons are integrated in the head
liner that can be programmed to up to three re
mote controls.
T o be able to operate systems using the garage
door opener, the buttons in the headliner must
first be programmed .

When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people or ob
jects are in the area immediately s urrounding
the equipment. People can be injured or prop-
erty can be damaged if struck when closing.

A WARNING
High beams can cause glare for other drivers,
wh ich increases the risk of an accident. For
this reason, only use the h igh beams or the
head light f lasher when they will not create
glare for other d rivers.

· High beam assistant
Applies to: vehicles with high beam assistant
The high beam assistant automatically turns the
high beams on or off depending on the surround
ing conditions.
A camera on the rearview mirror mount can de
tect light sources from other road users. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the posit ion of vehicles d riving ahead and on
com ing vehicles, the veh icle speed and other en
vironmental and traffic cond itions.
Activ ating high b eam assistant
Requirement: the light sw itch must be set to the
AUTO posit ion and the high beam ass istant must
be switched o n in the Infota inment system
¢page 63.

Additional information for automatic
transmissions
The eng ine stops in the P, N and D selector lever
pos itions.
If you se lect the R posit ion d uring a Stop phase,
the engine will start aga in.
Se lect t he P position qu ickly to prevent the en
gine from starting u nintent ionally when shifting
through R .
You can determine for yourse lf if the engine wi ll
stop or not by red ucing or inc reasing the amount
of force you use to press t he brake peda l. For ex
ample, if yo u only lightly press on the brake ped
al in stop-and-go traffic or when turning, the en
gine w ill not switch off when the vehicle is sta
tiona ry . A s soon as you press the b rake down
harder, the engine wi ll switch off .
(0 Tips
-Press the brake peda l during a Stop phase
to keep the vehicle from rolling.
-The ignit io n wi ll turn off if yo u press the
!START ENGINE STOPI butto n du ring a stop
phase. The needle in the tachomet er moves
into the
OFF position.

The standard Start/Stop mode can be canceled
for various system-related reasons.
Engine does not switch off
Before and dur ing each stop phase, the system
checks if certain conditions have been met. If the

@j indicator light appears in the instrument clus
ter disp lay, the engine will not be stopped, for
examp le in the following situations:
- T he eng ine has not reached the minimum re
quired temperature for Start/Stop mode.
- T he interior temperature selected by the cli-
mate contro l system has not been reached .
- T he outs ide temperature is ext remely h igh/low.
- The windshield is being defrosted.
- The neck heating* is turned on .
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low.
- The steering wheel is turned at a sharp angle or is moving .
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines.
- At high altitudes .
Engine automatically restarts
The standard Start/Stop mode will be canceled
during a stop phase in the follow ing s ituations .
The engine resta rts without any action by the
driver.
- The vehicle rolls , for example while on a slope.
- The interior temperature differs from the tem-
perature selected in the A/C system .
- The windshield is being defrosted.
- The brake pedal is pressed several times in a
row.
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low .
- Power consumption is high.
The engine can turn off again when the condi
tions for Start/Stop mode are met.
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the vehicle battery from draining, the
ignition will switch off automat ically under the
following conditions :
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine .
- The vehicle is stationary.
- You left the ve hicle and the engine was not re-
started within approximate ly 30 seconds .
If th is happens, you w ill see the message

<( ~ tion turns off automatically in the instrument
~ cluster and the activated low beams are replaced N
8 by the parking light. The parking lights will \0

switch off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the vehicle .
T he ign ition also switches off when you lock the
vehicle from the outside during a stop phase.
If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have switched the Start/Stop sys
tem off manually, the ignition w ill no t be auto
matically sw itched off and the eng ine will contin
ue to
run ¢& .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of poisoning, never allow
the engine to run in confined spaces.
(D Tips
Applies to: vehicles with automatic transmissions
- If you leave the vehicle with the 0/5 or R se
lector lever position engaged, the parking
brake is automatically set.
- If you select the D or N selector lever posi
tion after shifting into reverse, the vehicle
must be driven faster than 6 mph (10 km/h)
in order for the engine to switch off again .
Manually switching the Start/Stop system
off/on
Applies to: veh icles w ith Start/Stop system
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.

Preventing the automatic parking brake
release
The vehicle cou ld begin ro ll ing uninten tionally,
depending on the hill or if towi ng a tra ile r .

press the a cce lerator peda l. The pa rking brake
remains set and p revents the ve hicle from roll
ing backward.
.. You can release the<® > switch again once you
are sure that yo u are giving enoug h driving
force to the wheels by press ing the accelerator
pedal.
Emergency braking function
Yo u can use the emergency braking function in an
emergency situat ion, o r if the standa rd brake op
eration ma lfu nctions or is disab led.
.. Pull and hold the(®) switc h.
.. As soon as you re lease the (®) switch or acceler-
ate, the braking stops.

lever back into the D/S position.
Shifting with th e shift paddle s
You can operate the shift padd les in the D/S or M
selector lever posit ions.
"' To sh ift up a gear, tap the sh ift paddle 0

"'T o shift down a gea r, tap the 0 sh ift paddle.
"'T o engage the lowest gear, ho ld the 0 shift
padd le.
"' If you do not press a shift button within a short
time whi le in the D/S position, the transmission
will return to automatic mode. To keep shifting
us ing the shift paddles, move the selector lever
to the right out of the D/S position.
"' When you want to shift out of tiptronic mode,
press and hold the
0 shift paddle for a longer
per iod of t i me or move the se lector lever back
and release it.
The transm ission automatically shifts up or down
before critical engine speed is reached .
The transm ission only allows manual shifting
when the engine speed is within the permitted
range.
@ Tips
- If you shift to the next lowest gear, the
transmission will only shift if the engine w ill
not be over-rewed .
- With kick-down, the transmission shifts to a
lower gear, depending on vehicle speed and
engine speed.
- tiptronic does not work if the transmiss ion
i s running in emergency mode.
Kick-down

Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accele rator peda l down be
yond the resistance point, the automatic trans
miss ion downshifts into a lower gear and the en
g ine utilizes its full power, depending on vehicle
speed and engine RPM. It shifts up into the next

higher gear once the maximum specified engine
RPM is reached.
A WARNING
P lease note that the whee ls cou ld spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac
tive.
Launch control program

The launch control program provides the best
possible acceleration when starting from a stop .
Requirement: the engine must be at operating
temperature and the steering wheel must not be
turned.

Assistance systems Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped with t ires
that are rated for a maximum speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). This is less than the maximum speed
of your vehicle. To reduce the risk of sudden tire
failure and loss of control if the vehicle is operat
ed at excessive speeds, your vehicle also has an
electronic speed limiter . The electronic speed
limiter prevents your vehicle from going faster
than the t ire speed rating. For mo re information
~page 341.
If the engine control unit receives faulty vehicle
road speed s ignals, the Malfunction Indicator
L amp
(MIL) ¢..ij will illuminate. If this occurs,
contact the nearest autho rized Audi dealer for
assistance.
_& WARNING
Always observe the posted speed limits and
adjust your speed to suit prevailing road, traf
fic and weather conditions. Never drive your
vehicle faster than the max imum speed rating
of the tires installed.
Speed warning system
Introduction
Applies to: vehicles with speed warning system
The speed warning system helps you to stay be
low a specified maximum speed that can be set,
changed or deleted in the Infotainment system.
-
The speed warning system warns you if you are
exceeding the maximum speed that you have set .
A wa rning tone will sound as soo n as yo ur speed
exceeds the s tored value sligh tly. The
[01 (USA
models)/
[01 (Canada models) indicator light
and a message appear in the instrument cluster
display at the same time. The
HI] / [0] indicator
light and the message turn off if the speed falls
back below the stored maximum speed.
Setting a threshold is recommended if you would l ike to be reminded when yo u reach a certain
maximum speed. Situations where you may want
to do so include driving in a country with a gen er-

al speed limit or if there is a specified maximum
speed for winter tires.
