Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key~
page 35,
-Door handles with convenience key*
~ page 36,
-Lock cy linder at the dr iver's door
¢ page 37, or
- Power lock ing switch inside
¢ page 37.
Select ive unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking
system w ill lock the doors and the rear lid .
When unlocking, you can set in the MMI
whether only the driver 's door o r the entire
vehicle should be unlocked ¢
page 35.
Automatic locking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the ve
h icle doors and the rear l id when you drive
faster tha n 9 mph (15 km/h).
The car is unlocked again, when the opening
function in the power locking system sw itch
or at one of the door levers is actuated . The
Auto Lock function can be turned on and off in
the MMI
¢ page 35.
Anti-theft alarm warning sy stem
If the anti -theft alarm warning system de
tects a break- in into the vehicle, acoust ic and
visua l warning signals are triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated au
tomatically when you lock the vehicle . It is de
activated when unlocking using the remote key, with the mechanical key, and when you
sw itch the ignition on. T
he alarm also turns off when the a larm cycle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle the
turn s ignals flash once. If they do not flash,
one of the doors, the rear lid or the hood is
not locked.
Unint entionally locking your self out
In the follow ing cases there safeguards to
prevent yo u lock ing yo ur remo te master key i n
the vehicle :
- The vehicle does not lock w ith the central
loc king switch ¢
page 3 7 if the drive r's
door is open.
- On veh icles with co nvenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug
gage compartment, the rear lid is a utomat i
cally un locked again after it is closed.

avoid lock ing you rsel f out accidentally .
Power side door clo ser *
The veh icle doors are equipped with a power
s ide door closer. When closing a door, you on
ly h ave to let it fall light ly into the latch. The
door will then automatically close by itself

A WARNING
-When you lock yo ur vehicle from o utside,
nobody -especially children -shou ld re
main inside the vehicle. Remember,
when you lock the vehicle from the out side the windows cannot be opened from
the inside.
- When you leave the veh icle, always take
the ignition key w ith you . Th is w ill pre
vent passenge rs (children, for example)
from accidenta lly being locked in the ve
h icle should they accidentally press the
power locking sw itch in the doors.

-Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised. In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
- Applies to vehicles with power side door
closer*:
- When closing a door, make sure noth
ing can interfere w ith the door. This
could cause serious personal injury.
- You can stop the door from clos ing at
any time by pulling on the inside or
outside door handle.
(D Tips
- In the event of a crash with airbag de
ployment all locked doors will be auto
ma tically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside.
- If the power locking system should mal
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key¢
page 38.
-If the power locking system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency
¢pa ge 223.
-You are we ll advised not to keep valua
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visib le
or not . Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv
er's door pane l comes on for abo ut 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there i s a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the malfunction corrected by an author ized
Audi dealership or qua lified repair facili
ty.
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the MMI.

the rear lid handle is lock ed. In this case the
rear lid can be opened with the b utton

driver's door. In vehicles with a convenience
key*, you can still open the rear lid using the
handle if an authorized master key is near the
proxim ity sensor .
Fold mirrors * -If you select On , the exterior
rearview mirrors fold in automat ically when
you press the
cfJ button on the remote control
master key or touch the sensor* in the handle.
Tone when locking -When you select On , a
confirmation tone sounds when you lock the
vehicle .

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear lid or the hood is opened with in 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself again automatically .
This feature prevents the ve hicle from be ing

of time.

- In order to make sure the locking func
tion is working, you shou ld always keep
you r eye on the vehicle to make su re i t is
properly locked.
-
- Do not use the remote control if you are
i nside the car, o therwise you may unin
tentiona lly lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the un lock button @.
- The vehicle can on ly be locked when the
se lector lever is in the P posit ion.
- Use the panic funct ion only i f you are in
an emergency situation.
Locking and unlocking with convenience
key
Appl ies to vehicles : wi th convenience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

Unlocking vehicle
• Take ho ld of the door handle . T he door is un-
locked automatically .
• Pull the handle to open the door.
Locking vehicle
• Select the P se lec to r lever posit ion. Othe r
w ise the vehicle cannot be loc ked.
• To lock the veh icle, close the door and touch
the sensor in the door handle

Do not reach inside the door handle.
T he vehicle can be locked and un locked at any
door . The master key must be within a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropriate door or
the rear lid. It makes no difference whether
the master key is in your jacket pocket or in
your brief case.
It is not possib le to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This a l
l ows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.
It depends on the settings in t he MMI wheth
er the ent ire vehicle is unlocked or one of the

@ Tips
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex
tended period, please note the follow ing:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second time to
open the veh icle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis
charged and to preserve your veh icle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu
ally switches off unnecessary conven i ence funct ions. It is possible that you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us
i ng these conven ien ce f unctions.

Operating locks with the key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver's door can be locked and unlocked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, p lease note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The d iodes in the power locking switches il-
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle .
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat
ed the doors automatically unlock .

-The power lock ing switch works with the
ig nit ion off and automat ica lly locks the

cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not leave

Once the door has been closed, it can no lon
ger be opened from the outside . T he door can

on the inside . Then you can open the door

- You press the button

- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the button

or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either open or close, depending on
its angle .
Closing will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the button
l"" I in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the button
l""I on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on
its angle .
You can manually stop the automatic open ing/closing of the rear lid. The automatic clos
ing process begins if you push down on the
rear lid.
A WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the lug
gage area, because then the rear lid can
not be fully closed.

- Never leave your vehicle unattended es
pecially with the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out . To reduce the risk of personal in
jury, never let children play in or around
your vehicle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not
in use.
- Never close the rear lid inattentively or
without checking first. Although the
closing force of the rear lid is limited,
you can still seriously injure yourself or
others .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges and the up
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be pinched .
- Never try to interfere with the rear lid or
help it when it is being opened or closed
automatically .
(D Note
The rear lid can bump into objects such as
the garage ceiling when opening and be
come damaged.
(D Tips
-Audio signals are given when you close
the rear lid using the
l a! button in the
driver's door.
- If there is a mechanical problem with au
tomatic closing for the rear lid or there is
an obstruction, it opens again immedi
ately . Check to see why the rear lid could
not be closed before attempting to close
it again .
- The following applies to vehicles equip
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug
gage compartment, luggage compart
ment will automatically unlock itself af
ter you lock the vehicle. This prevents
you from unintentionally locking your
key in the luggage compartment. .,.

- When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid
can be un locked separate ly by pressing
the button ~ on the master key. W hen
the rear lid is closed aga in, it locks auto
matically.

Requirements: You must be carryi ng your ve
hicle key with you. You must be standing at
the center behind the luggage compartment lid. The distance to the rear of the vehicle
should be approximately 8 inches (20 cm).
The ignition must be sw itched off . Make sure
you have firm footing .

Once the system recognizes the movement,
the luggage compartment lid will open .
The luggage compartment lid will only open if
you make the movemen t as described. This
prevents the luggage compartment lid from
ope ning due to s imilar moveme nts such as
when you walk between the rear of the veh icle
a nd your ga rage doo r.
General information
In some s ituations, the function is lim ited or
tempo rar ily unavailable . This may happen if:
- the luggage compartment lid was just closed.
- yo u park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long period of time. -
you clean your veh icle, for example with a
pressure washer or in a car wash.
- there is heavy rain.
- t he bum per is ve ry di rty, fo r example after
driving on sa lted roads.
- t here i s interference to the radio signal from
t he vehicle key, su ch as from cell phones or
remote contro ls.
Rear lid emergency release
The rear lid can be released in an emergency
from the inside .

-When you leave your vehicle - even if on
ly briefly - always take the ignit ion key
with you. This applies particularly when children remain in the vehicle. Otherwise
the children could start the engine or op
erate electrical equipment (e.g. power
windows). The power windows are func
tional until the driver's door or passeng
er's doo r has been opened.
- Be careful when closing the w indows.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serio us injury could result!
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency .
{D Tips
-When you open the doors, the windows
automatically lower abo ut 10 mm.
- When the window in the driver's or pas
senger's door is complete ly open, it will
raise approximately 25 mm when the
door is opened. The window will lower
again when you close the door.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can sti ll be opened or
closed for about 10 minutes. The power
windows are not switched off until the
dr iver's door or passenger's door has
been opened .
What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery has been discon
nected.

• Release the switch and then pull it again for
at least one second.
Valet parking
T he valet parking feature protects the lug
gage comportment from unauthorized access from the outside.

With "valet parking" activated, the rear lid
cannot be opened from the outside.
• Remove the mechanical key
c> page 33 .
• Open the glove compartment and activate
c>fig . 32 the "valet parking " feature by
pressing the
I VA LE T I button. The ind icator
light in the switch illuminates.
• Close the glove compartment and lock it
with the mechanical key.
• Leave the master key with the service per
sonnel for parking and keep the mechanical
key w ith you.
When the "valet parking" feature is activated :
- the unlocking button for the rear lid~ in
the driver's door is inact ive
- the button~ on the master key is inactive
- the open ing hand le in the rear lid is in active.
The vehicle can be driven and locked and un locked with the master key . Access to the lug
gage compartment is blocked from the out
side.
When the valet parking function is switched
on, the message
Valet parking activated ap
pears in the instrument cluster display when
you switch the ign it ion on .
Sliding/tilting sunroof

• To t ilt the sunroof completely, press the
sw itch br iefly to the second level briefly.
• To close the sunroof completely, pull the
switch briefly to the second level

• To select an intermediate position, press/
pull the switch to the first level until the de
sired position is reached .
@ Opening/sliding (version 1)
• To move the roof into the reduced w ind
noise position, press the button back briefly
to the second leve l. The roo f will open all
the way if you press the button back to the
second level again.
• To close the sunroof comp letely, press the
sw itch forward briefly to the second level

• To se lect an intermediate posit ion, press/
pull the switch forward/back to the first lev
el until the desired position is reached.
@ Opening/sliding (version 2)
• To open the sunroof completely, press the
sw itch back to just before the second level.
• To close the su nroof completely, press the

Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the
Automatic headlights menu:
Headlights a ctivation time -You can adjust if
the head lights switch on
Early , Med. or Late
according to the sensitivity of the light sensor.
Audi adaptive light* -You can switch adaptive
light
On and Off.
Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switc h the dayt ime run
ning lights
on and off .
Canada models:
The function cannot be
turned off . It is activated automatica lly each
time the ign ition is switched on. This menu
item is shown "greyed out".
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when yo u switch the
ignition off and open the driver's door. To turn
the function on, select
Lights when leaving
car > On .
The leaving home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when you un lock the
vehicle. To turn the funct ion on, select
Lights
when unlocking car > On .
The coming home and leaving home functions
only operate when it is dark and the light
switch is in the
AUTO pos ition.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering col
umn is used to operate the turn signals and
the high beam as well as the headlight flash
er.
