- The vehicle can only be locked when the se ­
lector lever is in the P position.
- Do not use the remote control when you are
inside the vehicle. Otherwise, you could un­
intentionally lock the vehicle. If you then
tried to start the engine or open a door, the alarm would be tr iggered. If this happens,
press the@ unlock button.
- Only use the pan ic function in an emergen­
cy.
Locking and unlocking with the
convenience key
Applies to: vehicles with convenience key
T he doors and luggage compartment lid can be
unlocked/locked without using the remote con­
trol key.

@ Tips
If your vehicle is left stand ing for a long peri­
od of time, note the following:
- The proximity senso r switches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to
pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open it .
- The energy management system gradually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the vehicle battery from draining
and to maintain the vehicle 's abi lity to start
for as long as possible. You may not be able to unlock your vehicle using the convenience
key.

When locking the vehicle with the central locking
switch, the following app lies:
- Opening the door and the luggage compart­
ment lid from the
outside is not possible (for
security reasons, such as when stopped at a
light) .
- The L ED in the central locking switch turns on
when all doors are closed and locked.
-Applies to: front doors: you can open the doors
ind ividually from the inside by pulling the door
handle .
- Rear doors: to unlock the doors, pull on the
door ha ndle
one time . To open the doors, pull
on the door handle
again .
- In the event of a crash with a irbag deployment,
the doors unlock automat ically to allow access
to the vehicle.
A WARNING
-The central locking switch also works when
the ignition is switched off and automatical­
ly locks the entire vehicle when the~ but­
ton is pressed.
- The central locking switch is inoperative
when the vehicle is locked from the outside.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at r isk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially c hildren .
@ Tips
Your vehicle locks automatically when it
reaches a speed of 9 mph (15 km/h) (Auto

Setting the central locking system
In the Infotainment system, you can set which
doors the central locking system will unlock .

luggage compartment lid hand le is locked. I n
this case the luggage compartment lid can be opened with the~ button on the remote control
key or with the
l a l button* in the driver 's door. In
veh icles with a convenience key*, you can st ill
open the luggage compartment lid using the handle if an author ized remote control key is
nea r th e p rox imity se nsor* .
Fold mirrors when locking * -if you select On ,

er locking system fails .

Anti-theft alarm system
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehicle
b reak-in, audio and visual warning signals are
triggered. The anti-theft alarm system is activat­
ed when the vehicle is locked as usual. It
switches
off when the vehicle is unlocked.
If the alarm is triggered, it w ill shut off automat­
ically after a ce rtain amount of time. Switch the
ignition on or press the~ button on the remote
control key to turn
off the alarm.

~ Bring the luggage compartment lid into the de­
sired open position

at a certain height or higher to store.
~ Press and hold the~ button for at least four
seconds to store the new open position . A visu ­
al and aud io signal w ill follow.
~ To set a higher open position, wait at least five
seconds and then carefully press the luggage
compartment lid upward.
~ Press and hold the~ button again for at least
four seconds to store the new open position .
The opening/closing p rocess w ill stop immedi­
ately if:
- You pull/release the
la! button in the driver 's
doo r, or
- You press/release the~ button on the remote
contro l key (vehicles wit h convenience key*) , or
- You press the
!a l or [®] button (vehicles with
convenience key*) in the luggage compartment
li d, or
- You push the handle in the luggage compart­
ment lid , or
- You press against the luggage compartment l id
against the d irect ion it is mov ing, or
- When something blocks the luggage compart ­
ment l id or makes it diff icult for the lid to
move .
If you press the handle or one of the~ or[®] but­
tons (vehicles with convenience key*) now , the
luggage compartment lid will either open or
close, depending on what ang le it is at .

- After closing the luggage compartment lid,
always pull up on it to make sure that it is
properly closed . Otherwise it co uld open
suddenly when the vehicle is moving.
- T o help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the veh icle, always keep
the luggage compartment lid closed while
driv ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the luggage

area, because then the luggage compart­
ment lid cannot be fully closed.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­
cially with the luggage compartment lid left
open. A child could craw l into the car
through the luggage compartment and pull
the lid shut, becoming trapped and unable
to get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep t he luggage com­
pa rtment lid as well as the veh icle doors
closed when not in use.
- Never close the luggage compartment lid
inattentive ly or without checking first. Al­
though the closing force of the luggage compartment lid is limited, you can still se­
rious ly injure yourself or others .
- Always ensu re that no one is within range of
the luggage compartment lid when it is moving, in particular close to the hinges and
the upper and lower edges -fingers or
hands can be pinched.
- Never try to interfere with the luggage com­
partment lid or help it when it is be ing
opened or closed automat ically .

The l uggage compartment lid can bump into
objects s uch as the garage ceiling when open­
ing and become damaged .

locks automat ica lly when it is closed again.
- You can close the l uggage compartment lid

convenience key*) up to a distance o f
approximately 9 feet (3 m) .
- The lugg age comp artment lid can be oper­
ated manually if the vehicle batte ry is low .
It is necessary to use more fo rce when doing
th is. Move the lid slowly to red uce the
amount of force needed.

activated opening

The luggage compartment lid will only open if
you make the movement as described. This pre­
vents the luggage compartment lid from opening
due to similar movemen ts, such as when you
wal k between the rear of the vehi cle an d your ga­
rage doo r.

In some s ituations, the fu nction may be limited
or temporar ily unava ilable. This may happe n if:

The child safety lock prevents the rear doors
from being opened from the inside and the rear
power windows from be operated .

All power window switches are equipped with a
two -stage function :

• To open or close the window completely, press
the switch down or pull the switch up briefly to
the second level. The operat io n will stop if the
sw itch is pressed/pulled again .
• To select a position in between opened and
closed, press/pu ll the switch to the first level
until the desired window position is reached.

-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise chil­

which increases the risk of an accident. The
power windows continue to function until
the driver's door or front passenger's door
has been opened.
- Pay careful attention when clos ing the win­
dows. Pinching could cause serious injuries .

-When locking the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­
dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency .
(D Tips
-The windows will automatica lly lower ap­
prox imately 0 .4 inches (10 mm) when you
open the doors.
- When the window in the dr iver's or front
passenger 's doo r is comp letely open, it w ill
raise approximate ly 1 inch (25 mm) when
t h e door is opened. The w indow w ill lower
again when you close the door .
- You can still open and close t he windows for
appro ximately 10 mi nutes after tur ning the
i gni tion off . The power w indows do not
swi tch off until t he d river's doo r o r front
passenger 's doo r has been opened.
Convenience opening
All of the windows and th e sunroof* can be
opened at once.
The settings in the Infotainment system spec ify
which windows will open .
Convenience opening feature
• Press and hold the~ button on the remote

desired position and the su nroof* is ti lted open .

tion if it malfunctions .
• Pull the power window switch up until the win­
dow is completely raised .

Sunroof

• To close the sunroof comp letely, press the
switch forward briefly to the second level

• To select an intermediate pos ition, press/pull
the switch forward/back to the first level until
the desired position is reached .
The sunshade can be opened and closed by hand
when the roof is closed. The sunshade opens au­
tomatically when the roof is opened.
You can still operate the sliding/tilt ing sunroof
for about 10 minutes after the ignition is switch­
ed off. The switch is deactivated once the driver's
or front passenger 's door is opened.
A WARNING
Pay careful attent ion when closing the slid­
ing/t ilting sunroof -otherw ise ser ious injury
cou ld result! Always take the ign ition key with
you when leaving the vehicle .
@ Note
Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof when
leaving your veh icle. Sudden ra in can cause
damage to the interior equ ipment of your ve­
hicle, particularly the electron ic equ ipment.

@ Tips
- For informat ion on convenience opening, re­

- The sunroof will only open down to -20 °C
(-4 °F) .
Sunroof power emergency closing

If the sunroof detects an object in its path whe n
it is closing, it w ill open again automatically. In
this case, you can close the roof with the power
emergency closing function.
• Within five seconds afte r the sunroof opens au­
tomat ica lly, pull the switch unt il the roof
closes .
I f you let go of the sw itch early, the sunroof will
open again .

Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description

With the garage door opener (Homelink), you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
security systems or house lights from inside your
vehicle. Three buttons are integrated in the head­
liner that can be programmed to up to three re­
mote controls .
To be able to operate systems using the garage door opener, the buttons in the headliner must
first be programmed .
A WARNING
When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people or ob­
jects are in the a rea immediately s urrounding
the equipment . People can be injured or prop­
erty can be damaged if st ruck when closing .

-For security reasons, we recommend that
you clear the prog rammed buttons before
sell ing the vehicle .
