automatically when you lock the vehicle

Front passenger's exterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when back ing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger's outside
mirror.
You can adjust the tilted mi rror surface by turn­
ing the knob in the desired direction. When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition off.
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (aspheric or convex*)
enlarge the field of vision. However, they
make objects in the mirror appear smaller
and farther away. Your may estimate incor­
rectly when you use these mirrors to gauge
your distance from the vehicles behind you
when changing lanes, wh ich increases the risk
of an accident.
(D Note
- If the mirror housing was moved by outs ide
forces (such as an impact when maneuver­ in g), you must use the power fold ing func­
tion to fold the mirror all the way out. The
mirror housing must not be moved back in­
to place by hand because this would impair
the function of the m irror mechanism.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior mirrors in
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.

Never fold power fold ing exterior mirrors by
hand . On ly fold them in and out using the
power controls.
(D Tips
- If the power adjusting function malfunc­
tions, the glass in both mirrors can be ad­
justed by pressing on the edge of it by hand.

Dimming the mirror

.. To dim the interior rearview mirror and both ex­
terior mirrors*, press the button @. The LED @
turns on. The interior rearv iew mirror and exte­
r ior mirrors* dim automatically when light
shines on them, for example from headlights
on a vehicle behind you.
A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak out from broken
mirror glass. This liqu id can irritate the skin,
eyes and respiratory system. If there is con­
tact with the fluid, flush immediately with
p lenty of water . Consult a physician if neces­
sary.
-
- Repeated or long-term exposure to electro­
lyte fluid can lead to irritation of the air­
ways, especially in people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Take deep
breaths immediately after leaving the vehi­
cle or, if this is not possible, open all of the
doors and w indows as wide as possible.
- If electrolyte fluid enters the eyes, flush
them thoroughly with a large amount of

Retracting the rear door sun sh ades*

You can adjust the settings for the rear sun shade so the shade retracts automatically when you se­
lect the reverse gear. Select:
CAR function button
> Car sy stem s control button > Vehicle settings
> Automatic rear blind > On. The settings are au ­
tomatically sto red and assigned to the remote
con trol key. The sun shade is extended again as
soon as the vehicle is trave ling fo rwa rd a t a speed
g rea ter than 9 mph (15 km/h) if the ignition has
not been swi tched o ff in the mean time .
.&_ WARNING
Always pay caref ul attention when closing the
sunshades . Pinching could ca use serio us inju­
r ies.
@ Tips
- Pressing the l~•~ l b utton several t imes in a
r ow can trigger the overload protection. The
su n shade can only be extended/retracted
again after a br ief waiting period.
- The rear win dow sun shade on ly functions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°().

@-Rain sensor mode. The windshield wi pe rs
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds appro x­
i mately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining. The
higher the rain sensor sensit iv ity is set (switch @
to t he right), the earlier the windshield wipers re­
act to moisture on the windsh ie ld . You can deac­
tivate the rain sensor mode in the I nfota inment
system, which swi tches the intermitten t mo de
o n. Sele ct:

Off . In inte rmitten t mode, you can adjus t the in ­
te rval time using the switch @.
@-slow w iping
@ -fast w iping
@ -single wipe If you hold the lever in this pos i­
t ion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast wiping.
® -clean the wi ndshield The w ipers w ipe one
time a fter several seconds of driving to remove
water droplets. You can sw itch this function off
by moving the leve r to posit ion ® within
10 sec­
o nds of the a fterwipe . The afterwipe function is ..,_

on.
C leaning the headlights. The headlight washer
system operates only when the low beam head­ lights are switched on.
If you move the lever to
position @, the headlights and the night vision
assist camera* are cleaned at intervals.
A WARNING
- The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver may still be responsible
for manually sw itching the wipers on based
on v is ibility conditions .
- The w indshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windsh ield coating agents . Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­ ness, and when the sun is low, can cause in­
creased g lare, which increases the risk of an
acc ident. W iper blade chatter is a lso poss i­
ble.
- Prope rly f unction ing windsh ield wiper
blades are required fo r a clear view and safe
driving

- If there is frost, make su re t he windshie ld
wiper blades are not fro zen to the wind­
shield. Sw itching on the windshield wipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­
shield can damage the wiper blades.
- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
wiper system must be switched
off (lever in
pos ition
@ ). This prevents the wipers from
switching on un intent ionally and causing
damage to the w indshield w iper system .
- The windshield wipers switch
off when the
i gnition is sw itched off. You can activate the
windsh ield wipers after the ign it ion is
switched back on by moving the winds hield
wiper lever to any posit ion.
- Worn o r dirty windshield wiper blades result
i n streak ing . This can affect the ra in sensor
funct ion. Check you r windshield wiper
blades regu larly.
Light s and Vision
-The washer fluid nozz les for the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
t u res when the ign ition is on .
- When stopping tempo rari ly, such as at a
traffic light, the speed of the windshield
w ipers automatically reduces by one level.
Cleaning the wiper blades
Clean the wiper b lades when you see w iper
streaks . Clean the wiper blades with a soft towel
and glass cleane r.

Removing the wiper blade
• Fold the windshield wiper arm away from the
windshield.
• Press the locking knob@c:>

blade . Hold the wiper blade firmly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direction of the
arrow .
Installing the wiper blade
• Insert the new wiper blade into the mount on
the wiper arm @until it clicks into place.
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshield.
• Turn the service position off.
A WARNING
For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year.
(D Note
- The windshield wiper blades must only be
folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield wipers would
move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.
- You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a
cover.
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open.

Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off
Applies to: vehicles wit h digital com pass

• To turn the compass in the mirror on or off,
press the button @ until the compass display
in the mirror appears or disappears.
The digital compass only works when the ignition
is tur ned on. The directions are indicated with ab­
breviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E (east),
SE (southeast), S (south), SW (southwest), W
(west), NW (northwest).
(D Tips
To prevent inaccurate compass readings, do
not bring any remote controls, electrical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror.

The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

- The power front sea ts can also be adjusted
when the ign ition is switc hed off . For this

reason, children sho uld never be left unat­
tended in the vehicle - they could be injured!
- On ly adjust the front seat with when the ve­
hicle is stationary. Otherwise, this increases
the risk of an accident
- Exercise caution when adjust ing the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands causing in juries .
- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impa irs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of inj ury.
Multifunction button

You can adjust the massage function, upper sec­
tion of the backrest, lumbar support, side bol ­
sters, upper thigh support and safety belt height using the multifun ction button.

Steering
Adjusting the steering wheel position
The steering column can be power adjusted up
and down and forward and back.

Requirement: the driver's seat is set correct ly.
"' To adjust the he ight, pr ess the sw itch up/down .
The stee ring co lumn will continue movi ng as
long as you are p ressing the switc h.
"' To move the steering wheel forwa rd or back,
press the switch forward/back. The steering
col umn wi ll continue mov ing as long as you are
pressing the switch.
T he steering whee l can a lso be adjusted when the
ignition is switched off .
In veh icles with memory func tion*, the steering
c o lumn set tings are s tored toget her w ith the
seat position.
A WARNING
Improper use of stee ring wheel adjustment
and improper seating posit ion can cause seri­
ous persona l injury.
- Ad just the steering wheel column only when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
veh icle control.
- Adj ust the driver's seat or steer ing whee l so
that the re is a m inimum of 10 in (25 cm)
between yo ur chest and the steering wheel
r::;, page 208, fig . 218 . If you cannot ma in­
tain this minimum dis tance, the airbag sys­
tem cannot pro tect you p roperly.

-Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignition will switch off af­
ter a certain amount of time. Make sure that
electrical equipment such as the exterior
lights are switched off.
Stopping the engine
"'Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
"'Select the P or N selector lever position.

Steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine off
using the
I START ENGINE STOPI button and
open the driver's door. The locked steering helps
prevent vehicle theft.
Emergency off function
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driving in the R, Dor S selec­
tor lever position at speeds below 6 mph (10 km/
h). To stop the engine, press and hold the
I START ENGINE STOPI button and also press the
brake pedal.
& WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use
more force to turn or brake. Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
would, this could lead to accidents and seri­
ous injuries .
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Driving
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll unintentionally.
@ Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine. For this reason, let the engine run
at idle for approximately two minutes before
shutting it off.
(D Tips
After the engine has been switched off, the
radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10
minutes -even with the ignition switched off .
It can also switch on again after some time if
the coolant temperature rises as the result of
heat buildup or if the engine is already warm
and the engine compartment is also heated
by the sun's rays.
Messages in the instrument cluster display
Turn off ignition before leaving car
This message appears and a warning tone sounds
if you open the driver's door when the ignition is
switched on.
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears when you press the
I START ENGIN E STOP ! button to start the engine
and do not press the brake pedal while doing so .
The engine can only be started when the brake
pedal is pressed.
= Key not in vehicle?
This indicator light turns on and this message ap­
pears if the ignition key was removed from the
vehicle when the engine was running. If the igni ­
tion key is no longer in the vehicle, you cannot switch on the ignition or start the engine once
you stop it. You also cannot lock the vehicle from
the outside.
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.

Driving
-The interior temperature differs from the tem­
perature se lected in the A/C system.
- The windshield is being defrosted~
page 71.
-The brake pedal is pressed seve ral t imes in a
row.
- The vehicle ba tte ry charge leve l is too low.
- Power consumption is high .
Ignition is switched off automaticall y
To prevent the veh icle battery from drain ing, the
ignit ion will switch off
automatically under the
following conditions:
- The vehicle must have already been driven.
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine.
- T he driver's door must be open .
- T he driver's safety be lt mus t be unb uck led.
- The brake pedal must not be p ressed .
- The vehicle must be stationary .
In this case, the activated low beam is replaced
by the parking light. The parking lights will
sw itch off after app roximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the vehicle .
If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have sw itched the Start/Stop sys­
tem off manually, the ignition will not be auto­ mat ically switched off and the engine w ill conti n­
ue to ru n ~ & .
A WARNING
To red uce the risk of poisoning, neve r allow
t he engine to r un i n confined s paces.
(D Tips
If you select the D, N or S selector lever posi­
tion after shifting into reverse, the vehicle
m ust be driven faste r than 6 mph (10 km/h)
in orde r fo r the engine to switch off again.

are not me t during a stop phase. The S tart/S top
system will

the D or R se lector lever positions were engaged,
P will be selected a utomat ically . The eng ine must
be started with the
I START ENGI NE STOPI but­
ton.
Start -stop system: System fault! Currently
unavailable
There is a ma lfunction in the Start/Stop system.
Drive the vehicle to an authorized Audi dealer or
aut horized Serv ice Facility as soon as possible to
have the malfunction corrected .

Driving
you can shift past the N and R selector lever positions.
Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select­ ing a position unintentionally, causing the vehicle
to roll. When engaging some selector lever posi­
tions, you must press the button on the selector lever ¢
fig. 96 and/or press the brake pedal.
You must press the brake pedal to engage a se­ lector lever position when the engine is running
and the vehicle is stationary. The arrows ~
fig. 97
indicate when you need to press the button on
the selecto r lever.
The selector lever does not lock if you shift from D to R within one second. This allows you to
"rock" the vehicle to free it when it is stuck.
P - Park
This selector lever position prevents the vehicle
from rolling . Only shift into park when the vehi­
cle is stationary ~&. . To engage the P selector
lever position, press the button on the selector
lever and shift into the P position.
You can only shift out of park when the engine is
running and you are pressing the brake pedal. To
release the parking lock. press the button on the
selector lever and select the desired position.
P engages automatically when you switch the en­
gine off while D, Sor R is engaged or in manual
mode.
If you switch the engine off when the N position
is selected, the transmission remains in N for ap­
proximately 30 minutes and then Pis engaged.
You must use the parking lock emergency release
before towing the vehicle~
page 88.
R- Reverse
The reverse gear is engaged in this position. Only
select reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary
and the engine is running at idle speed ~,&. . To
engage the R selector lever position, press the
button on the selector lever, press the brake ped­
al and move the selector lever into the R position.

The reverse lights turn on when you select the R
selector lever position while the engine is run­
ning.
N -Neutral (idle)
The transmission is in idle in this position. To en­
gage the N selector lever position, press the but­
ton on the selector lever and shift into the N po­
sition.
If you switch the engine off when the N position
is selected, the transmission remains in N for ap­
proximately 30 minutes and then Pis engaged .
You cannot select the N position when the igni­
tion is switched off. When driving through an au­
tomatic car wash, first select the N position and
then turn the engine off¢
page 306.
For safety reasons, the vehicle cannot be locked
when the transmission is in the N position.
DIS -Driving forward
When the transmission is in the D/S position, it
can be operated either in the normal D mode or
in the S sport mode . Move the selector lever back
to engage the S sport mode. You can only select
the S selector lever position when Dis engaged.
To select the D selector lever position again when
S is engaged, move the selector lever back~&. .
To shift from N to D when traveling at speeds be­
low 1 mph (2 km/h), press the brake pedal and
shift into the D position ~&. .
In the
normal mode D, the transmission auto­
matically selects the suitable gear ratio . It de­
pends on engine load , vehicle speed and driving
style.
Select the
sport mode S for sporty driving. The
vehicle makes full use of the engine's power. Shifting may become noticeable when accelerat­
ing.
The S selector lever position engages automati­
cally when you select dynamic mode in drive se­
lect .
_&, WARNING
- The vehicle can roll even if the ignition is
switched off.
