(D Tips
-The illumination for the instrument clus­
ter lights up whenever you switch on the
ignition with the
vehicle headlights off .
As the daylight fades, the instrument
cluster illumination likewise dims auto­
matically a nd will go out completely
when the outside light is very low. This
feature is meant to remind you to switch
on the headlights when outside light
conditions become poor .
Engine coolant temperature gauge

The engine coolant gauge q page 10, fig. 3 ®
only works when the ignition is on. To prevent
damage to your engine, please note the fol ­
lowing important points:
Engine cold
If the needle is at or close to the bottom of
the gauge, the engine has not yet reached its
operating temperature. Avoid high engine
speeds, heavy engine loads, and heavy throt ­
tle app lications.
Normal temperature
When the engine has reached its operating
temperature, the needle will move to the mid­
dle of the gauge and remain there . If the en­
gine is working hard at high outs ide tempera­
tures, the needle may move higher on the
gauge. This is not a cause for concern as long
as the . warn ing light in the instrument
cluster display does not illuminate. If the.
warning light in the instrument cluster dis­
play flashes, the coolant temperature is too
high

@ Tips
If the vehic le is stationary, or if you are
driving at a very low speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the d isplay might be slightly
higher than the actual outside tempera­
ture. This is caused by the heat being radi ­
ated from the engine.

D or fl in the top corner of the
trip computer display shows which t rip com­
puter is currently being displayed .
T rip computer
D ¢ fig. 8 is a s ingle journey
memory. It processes the information on a
jo urney from the time the ignition is switched
on until it is switched off. If the journey is re­
sumed within two hours after the ignit ion is
switched off, the new figures are automatical­
ly included in the calculation .
Unlike the single journey memory, the total
journey memory (trip computer
fl ) is not
erased automatically. In this way, you can de­
termine the period for which you wish the trip computer to supply dr iv ing information.
You can call up the following information se­ quentially on trip computer

- Date
- Fue l range
- Dr iving t ime (h)
-Average fuel consumption
- Average speed
- Distance covered
- Current fuel consumption

-All va lues stored in the memory are
erased if the vehicle battery is discon­
nected.

the driver door, the time, date, odome­
ter and temperature are disp layed for an
additional 30 seconds.

the ignition is switched off.

Odometer /trip odometer
The display of distance driven is shown in kilo­
meters "km" or in miles "mi" .

The uni ts of me asure (kilometers/miles) can
be changed in the rad io or MMI*. You can

learn more about this in the MM I manual o r in
the radio use r's manual.
T he odometer @shows the total number of
k il ometers o r miles that have been dr iven on
the vehicle.
The trip odometer @ shows the d istance driv­
en since it was last reset . It can be used to
measure short distances. The last d igit shows
distances of 100 meters or 1/10 of a mi le.
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by pressing the reset button I

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunct ion somewhere in the in­
strument cluster,
DEF w ill appear in the trip
odometer and w ill stay on . Contact your au­
thorized Aud i dea le r to have the prob lem cor­
r ected .

The effic iency program can help to save fuel.
It evaluates fuel eff ic iency data and shows a
list of aux iliary equ ipment affecting fuel con­
sumption

page 25 for saving fuel.
The efficiency program uses the trip and fuel
consumption data from on-board computer

Other equipment that is currently affecting
fuel consumption is listed in the efficiency
program. The display shows up to three other
items of equipment @. The equipment using
the most fuel is listed first .
If more than three
items using fuel are switched on, the equip­
ment that is currently using the most fuel is
displayed.
A scale @also shows the current total con­
sumption of all other equipment.

Fuel economy messages

Fue l economy messages are disp layed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con­
ditions. If you follow these fuel economy mes­
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consump­
tion of fuel. The messages appear automati­
cally and are only displayed in the effic iency
program. The fuel economy messages turn off
automatically after a certain period of time.
• To turn a fuel economy message off immedi­
ately, press any of the controls on the wind­
shield wiper lever*/multifunction steering
whee l* .
(D} Tips
- Once you have turned a fuel economy
message off, it will only appear again af­
ter you t urn the ignition on aga in.
- The fuel economy messages are not dis­
played in every instance, but rather in in­
te rva ls over a period of time.

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next o il change or inspec­
t ion is ca lculated automatica lly and disp layed
accord ingly. The d isp lay works in two stages:
-Serv ice rem inder: After a spec ified number
of miles, a message appears in the instru­
ment cluster display when switching the ig­
nition on

- Se rvi ce due : When the due date for serv ice

Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the rad io or MMI* disp lay by
selecting the service i nte rva l display in the car

Resetting the service interval displa y
Your author ized Audi dealer will reset the cor­
respondi ng service schedule after pe rforming
the appropr iate service on your veh icle. You
also have the possibi lity to reset the oil
change schedule after having performed an
oil change according to Audi specifications.

-Only reset the oi l change display when
you have completed an o il change .
- If you d isconnect the battery term inals,
no calculatio ns can be made for the serv­
ice interval display during this time and
no service rem inder will appear . Remem­
ber that observing the proper service in­
tervals is vitally important to extending
the life of you r vehicle, particularly the
engine, and maintaining its value. Even if
the mileage dr iven is low, the max imum
period of one year from one serv ice to
the next must not be exceeded.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL) ¢'4 i n
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ign ition is switched on and goes o ut after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
Th is indicates that the MIL is working proper­
l y.
If the light doe s not go out after the eng ine
is started, or illuminates wh ile you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem . If the light illuminates, the catalytic con ­
verter cou ld be damaged.
Continue driving
w ith reduced pow er (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer .
If the light ill uminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be ma lfunctioning . For more

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board D iagnostics monitors the compo­
nents of your em ission contro l system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code . In case of a mal­
funct ion, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memo ry.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a lea k in the on-board fuel vapor recove ry sys­
tem . If the ligh t illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel fille r
cap is prope rly closed (only vehicles w ith gaso­
line engine) ¢

In order to make a n accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can on ly be displayed using spe­
c ial d iagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
for OBD).
In order to con nect t he special diagnostic
equipment, push the plug in to the Data Link
Connector (D LC). The D LC is located to the
right o f the hood release

- The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip ­
ment) .

dealer .

Replacing the remote control key battery

Resetting the remote control
The remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does not unlock .
.. Press the unlock b utton @on the re mote
contro l.
.. Man ually un lock the dr iver's door loc k with
the ignition key w ith in 30 seconds .
.. Press either the lock-~ or the unlock @ but­
ton to complete the reset seq uence.

When the malfunction indicator is illuminat­
ed, the system may not be able to det ect or
signal low t ire pressure as intended . TPMS
malfunct ions m ay occur for a variety of re a­
sons, including the installa tion of replace­
ment or a lternate tires or wheels on the vehi ­
cle that prevent the TPMS from funct ioning
properly . Always check the TPMS malfunct ion
tellta le afte r replacing one or more t ires or
wheels on your veh icle to ensure that the re­
p lacement or a lternate tires and wheels allow
the TPMS to continue to function properly.
Tire pressure indicator appears
Applies to vehicles: with tire pressure monito ring system
The tire pressure indicator in the instrument
cluster informs you if the tire pressure is too
low or if there is a system malfunction.

Using the ABS sensors, the tire pressure moni­
toring system compares the t ire tread circum­
ference and vibration characteristics of the in­
d iv idual tires . If the pressure decreases in one
or more tires, th is is indicated in the instru­
ment cluster w ith a warning symbo l

reset each t ime the press ures a re adjusted (e.
g . when switching between partia l and full
l oad pressure) or after changing or replacing a

dicator only monitors the tire p ressu re that
you have previously s tored. You can find the
recommended tire pressures for your vehicle
on the label on dr iver 's side B -pillar

Tire tread circumference and vibration charac­
teristics can change and cause a tire pressure
warning if:
- t he t ire press ure in one or more tires is too
low,
- t he t ire has s tructural damage ,
- the t ire p ressure was changed, wheels rotat -
ed or replaced but the TPMS was not reset

-the spare t ire is mou nted.

A WARNING
--- If the tire pressure indicator appears in
the instrument cluster display, one or mo re of your t ires is sign ifi cantly unde r­
i n flated. Reduce yo ur speed immedi ately
and avoid any hard steer ing or b raking
maneuve rs. Stop as soon as possib le and
check the tires and their pressures. In­
f late the tire pressure to the proper pres­
sure as indicated on the vehicle's tire
pressure labe l
¢page 199. Driving on a
significantly under-i nflated tire causes
the t ire to overheat and can lead to ti re
fa ilu re. Unde r-inflation also is likely to
impair the vehicle's handling and stop­
p ing ability.

-The driver is responsible for maintaining
the correct tire pressures. You must
check the tire pressures regularly.
- Under certain conditions (such as a spor­
ty driving style, winter conditions or un­
paved roads), the pressure monitor indi­
cator may be delayed.
- Ask your authorized dealer if run-flat
tires may be used on your vehicle. Your
vehicle registration becomes invalid if
you use these tires when not permitted .
Damage to your vehicle or accidents
could also result.
- The tire pressure monitoring system may
stop working when there is an ESC mal­
function.
- Using snow chains may result in a system
malfunction.
- The tire pressure monitoring system on
your Audi was developed using tires with
the "AO" or "RO" identification on the
tire sidewall

If the tire pressure is adjusted, wheels are ro­
tated or changed, the TPMS must be reset.
