Some ind icator lights turn on briefly to check
the function of that system when you switch
the ign ition on. These systems are ma rked

l!I requires oil refill or workshop serv­
ice without delay . Do not wait until th e

when you switch on the ignition and must go
out after the eng ine has started.
• Alternator fault : Battery is not being
charged.
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the generator or vehicle electrical system .

cle battery is discharging, turn off all unnec ­
essary e lectrical equipment such as the radio.

trip computer display shows which t rip com­
puter is currently being displayed .
T rip computer
D ¢ fig. 8 is a s ingle journey
memory. It processes the information on a
jo urney from the time the ignition is switched
on until it is switched off. If the journey is re­
sumed within two hours after the ignit ion is
switched off, the new figures are automatical­
ly included in the calculation .
Unlike the single journey memory, the total
journey memory (trip computer
fl ) is not
erased automatically. In this way, you can de­
termine the period for which you wish the trip computer to supply dr iv ing information.
You can call up the following information se­ quentially on trip computer

- Fue l range
- Dr iving t ime (h)
-Average fuel consumption
- Average speed
- Distance covered
- Current fuel consumption

-All va lues stored in the memory are
erased if the vehicle battery is discon­
nected.

you have completed an o il change .
- If you d isconnect the battery term inals,
no calculatio ns can be made for the serv­
ice interval display during this time and
no service rem inder will appear . Remem­
ber that observing the proper service in­
tervals is vitally important to extending
the life of you r vehicle, particularly the
engine, and maintaining its value. Even if
the mileage dr iven is low, the max imum
period of one year from one serv ice to
the next must not be exceeded.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL) ¢'4 i n
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ign ition is switched on and goes o ut after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
Th is indicates that the MIL is working proper­
l y.
If the light doe s not go out after the eng ine
is started, or illuminates wh ile you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem . If the light illuminates, the catalytic con ­
verter cou ld be damaged.
Continue driving
w ith reduced pow er (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer .
If the light ill uminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be ma lfunctioning . For more

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board D iagnostics monitors the compo­
nents of your em ission contro l system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code . In case of a mal­
funct ion, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memo ry.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a lea k in the on-board fuel vapor recove ry sys­
tem . If the ligh t illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel fille r
cap is prope rly closed (only vehicles w ith gaso­
line engine) ¢
page 177.
In order to make a n accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can on ly be displayed using spe­
c ial d iagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
for OBD).
In order to con nect t he special diagnostic
equipment, push the plug in to the Data Link
Connector (D LC). The D LC is located to the
right o f the hood release

shop can interpret the code and perform the
necessary repair.

- The operation of the remote contro l key

ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip ­

Replacing the remote control key battery

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the following :
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second time to
open the veh icle .
- To prevent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your veh icle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the ene rgy management system gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary conven­
i ence funct ions .
It is possible that you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us­
ing these convenience functions.

You will f ind a power locking switch in each
door. You can
lock and unlock the vehicle us ­
ing the switches in the driver's or passenger 's
doo r. You can only
lock the vehicle using the
switches in the rear doors. If you lock the ve­ h icle using the power locking switch, please
note the following: -
If a door is open, the vehicle cannot be
locked using the power locking system
sw itch.
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switch illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked .
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the ai rbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
-
-The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire veh icle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
tive .
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the veh i­
cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not leave
anyone behind in the vehicle, especia lly
children,

The a utomatic closi ng process begins if you
push down on the rear lid.
.&_ WARNING
- Never close the rear lid inatten tively or
without checking first. Although the closing force of the rear lid is limited,
you can st ill ser iously injure yourself or
others .
- Always ensure that no one is w ith in
range of the rear lid when it is mov ing, in
part icu la r close to the h inges and the up­
per and lowe r edges -fingers or hands
can be pin ched.
- To help p revent po isonous exha ust gas
from bei ng drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv­ ing. Never transport objects large r than
those which fit completely into the l ug ­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave yo ur vehicle u nattended es­
pecially with the rear lid left open . A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compa rtment and pull the lid
shut, becom ing trapped and unable to
get out . To reduce the risk of persona l in­
jury, never let ch ildren play in or around
yo ur vehicle . A lways keep the rear lid as
we ll as the vehicle doo rs closed when not
in use.
- If there i s a luggage ra ck or b icycle ra ck
mounted on the rear l id, it may not be
able to open comple tely or an opened
rear lid may close by itself beca use of the
added weight. So the ope n rear lid must
be s upported or the weight m ust be re­
moved from the luggage rack first .
@ Tips
-When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid
can be un locked sepa rately by pressing
the button
c:s on the master key. W hen
t h e rear lid is closed aga in, it locks auto­
matically.
- The following applies to veh icles equip­
ped with the conven ience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug- gage compa
rtment, luggage compart ­
ment wi ll automatically unlock itself af­
ter yo u lock the vehicle. T his prevents
you from unintentionally lock ing your
key in the l uggage compartment.
- If the vehicle battery charge drops be­
low a certain level, you can still open or
close the rear lid manua lly, however , you
w ill need to app ly more force to close it .

Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnecting the vehicle battery , the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again.
.,. Pull the power window switch until the win­
dow is comp lete ly raised .
.,. Re lease the switch and pull it again for at
least one second.
.,. Press and hold the electric window sw itch
until the window is fully open .
.,. Re lease the switch and then press it again
for at least one second. You shou ld now be
able to close the window in the usual way.
Panorama sunroof
Description

The button has two stages. In the second
stage, the roof automat ically runs to the end
pos ition (open/closed) when the button is op­
erated br iefly. The movement can be stopped
by pressing the button .
