in the system.
If the light does not illuminate
when you switch the ignition on, this also
means there is a malfunction.
A WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys­
tems, contact your author ized Audi dealer
immediately. Otherw ise the safety sys­
tems may not work properly in an acci­
dent.
U) Tire pressure monitoring system -
telltale indicator lamp
Appl ies to vehicles: with tire pressure monitoring system
The warning/indicator light appears in the
event of a significant loss of tire pressure or if there is a malfunction.
The indicator light IE illuminates to check
the function when you switch on the ignition.
If the
IE symbol remains on or blinks after
you switch on the ignition, the re is a loss of
tire pressure or a system malfunction.
If there
is a system malfunction, see your authorized
Aud i dealer as soon as possible.

¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Whenever you use the left B or the right II
turn signal, the ind icator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica­ tor lights flas h.
If one of the turn s ignal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signa l wi ll blink tw ice as fast as nor­
mal.
This does not apply, however, in towing mode.
The indicator light does no t flash if a turn s ig­
nal is out on the trailer or the tow ing vehicle.

Applies to vehicles: with towing hitch
The indicator light also blinks if the turn sig­
nal is operated when towing a trailer.
The ind icator light. bli nks when the turn
s ignal is used, if a trailer has been properly
con nected to the vehicle .
If one of the turn signa l bulbs on the trailer is
burned out or defective, the ind icator light
will not blink when you use the turn signals.
(D Tips
For vehicles with a factory installed towing
hitch or a trailer hitch that was installed
l ater according to factory spec ificat ions,
the trailer turn signal assembly is actuat­
ed.
,(t Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to
put on your safety belt.
The . warn ing/ indicator light illum inates
when the ignition is switched on to remind
the driver and (o n USA models only) any front
passenger to put on the safety be lt . Addit ion­
ally, an audib le warn ing tone w ill also sound .

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnos tic (OBD II) sys tem.
T he symbo l
(4 lights up when the ignition is
tu rned on and will turn off after the eng ine
has started and has settled at a constant idle
speed. This indicates that the MIL is working
properly.
The warning light ill uminates when the re is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system.
Contact your a uthorized Audi dea ler and have
the malfunction corrected. .,..

-Always ensure that no one is with in
range of the rear lid when it is mov ing, in
particular close to the h inges and the up­
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be p inched.
- To help prevent po isonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while dr iv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit comp letely into the lug­
gage are a, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave you r vehicle unattended es­
pecially wi th the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becom ing trapped and unab le to
get out. To reduce the risk of persona l in­
jury, never let children p lay in or around
your vehicle . A lways keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not in use.
- If there is a luggage rack or bicycle rack mounted on the rear lid, it may not be
able to open completely or an opened
rear lid may close by itself because of the
added weight . So t he open rear lid must
be s upported or the weight must be re­
moved from the luggage rack first .
(1) Tips
-As soon as the electrical connection to
the trailer socket is completed on
vehicles with a factory installed tow ing
hitch, or a trailer hitch that was installed
l ater according to factory spec ifications,
the automatic rear lid function can only be operated via the handle in the rear lid.
- If the vehicle battery charge drops below
a certain level, you can still open or close
the rear lid manually, however, you will
need to apply more force to close it .
- If the rear lid on a locked vehicle is un­
locked with the m iddle button
c::; on the
remote key, the rear lid is automatically
l ocked again immediately after clos ing .

- The following applies to vehicles equip ­
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug­
gage compartment, luggage compart­
ment w ill automatically unlock itself af­
ter you lock the vehicle . Th is prevents
you from unintentionally lock ing you r
key in the luggage compartment.

partment lid .
~ Press the lever in the d irection of the arrow
until the luggage compartment lid releases.

-When the vehicle is locked, no one - par­
t icu larly not ch ildren should remain in
the vehicle. Locked doors make it more
difficult for emergency workers to get in­
to the vehicle - putt ing lives at risk .
Starting from rest
The starting assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon
starting .
Stopp ing and ap plyin g park ing b rake
.. Pu ll the switch to apply the parking brake.
Starting and automatically relea sing the
par king brake
.. When you start to drive as usua l, the park­
ing brake is automatically re leased and your
vehicle begins to move.
When stopping at a traffic signa l or stopping
in city traffic on vehicles with an automatic
transmission, the park ing brake can be ap­
plied . The veh icle does not have to be held
with the footbrake. The park ing brake elimi­
nates the tendency to creep with a drive range
engaged. As soon as you dr ive off as usual,
the park ing brake is released automatically
and the veh icle sta rts to move.
Starting on slope s
When starting on inclines, the start ing ass ist
prevents the vehicle from unintentionally roll­
i ng back . The braking force of the pa rking
brake is not released until sufficient dr iv ing
fo rce has been bu ilt up at the whee ls.
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the park ing brake is re­
leased automatically only when the dr iv­
er 's safety belt is engaged in the bu ck le.
Starting off with a trailer
To prevent rolling back unintentionally on an
incline, do the following:
• Keep the switch pulled and depress the ac­
celerator . The parking brake stays applied
and prevents the vehicle from roll ing back ­
ward .
• Yo u can re lease the switch once you a re su re
tha t you are deve lopi ng enough d riving
force a t th e wheels by depressing the acce l­
erator.
Depend ing on the we igh t of the rig (vehi cle
and t railer) and the severity of the incline, yo u
may ro ll backwa rds as yo u start . You can pre­
vent rolling backwa rds by holding the parking
brake switc h pulled out and accelerating - just
as you would when starting on a hill with a
convent ional hand brake.
Emergency braking
In the event that the conventional brake sys­
tem fails or locks.
.. In an emergency, pull the switch and con ­
tinue to pull it to slow your vehicle down
w ith the park ing brake.
• As soon as you release the switch or acceler-
ate, the brak ing process stops.
If you p ull the switch and ho ld it above a
speed of abo ut 5 mph (8 km/h), the emergen­
cy brak ing funct ion is initiated . The ve hicle is
braked at all four whee ls by activating the hy­
draulic b rake system . The brake performa nce
i s sim ilar to making an emergency stop~& .
In order not to act ivate the emergency brak­
i ng by mistake, an audib le warning tone (buz­
zer) sounds when the switch is pu lled. As soon
as the switch is re leased, or the accele rato r
peda l is depressed, eme rgency b raking stops .
A WARNING
Emergency braking should only be used in
an emergency, when the norma l foot bra ke
has fai led or the brake pedal is obs tructed. .,..

Using the parking brake to perform emer­
gency braking will slow your vehicle down
as if you had made a full brake applicat ion.
The laws of physics cannot be suspended
even w ith ESC and its associated compo­
nents (ABS, ASR, EDS) . In corners and
when road or weather conditions are bad, a full b rake application can cause the vehi­
cle to skid or the rear end to break away -
risking an accident.
Driver messages in the instrument
cluster
Caution: V ehicl e parked too steep
T his message appears when the park ing brake
is applied on an incl ine that exceeds about
30%.
In this case the braking power of the parking
brake may
not be adequate to prevent the ve­
h icle from rolling unintentionally .

This driver message appears when the switch
to release the parking brake was pressed. The
parking brake can on ly be released if yo u step
on the brake pedal and at the same time press
the switch or you automatically release the parking brake with the start ing ass ist

JiJ symbol when there is a parking

Start-Stop-System
Description
Appl ies to vehicles : wit h Start -Stop-System
The Star t-S top -System can he lp inc rease f ue l
economy and red uce CO2 emissions .
I n the Start-Stop-mode, the eng ine shuts off
a utomatically when the vehicle is stopped,
such as at a traffic ligh t. T he ig nition remains
switched on during t his stop phase. The en -

gine wi ll be automatica lly restarted when
needed .
T he last Start-Stop-System se tting (on/off us­

Basic requirements for the Start -Stop
mod e
-The driver's doo r is closed.
- The driver 's seat be lt is la tched.
- The hood is closed.
- The vehicle must have been dr iven faster
than
2.5 mph (4 km/h) since the last stop.
- A trailer is not hitched to the vehicle.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. The
full funct ion of the brake boos ter and the
power steering is not gua ranteed. You
m ust use more force to tu rn or brake if
necessary. Beca use you cannot steer and
brake as you usually wou ld, this could
lead to crashes and ser ious injuries.
- To reduce the risk of injuries, make sure
that the Start-Stop-System is turned off
when working in the eng ine compart­
ment

As long as you do not activate the turn signal,
side assist
informs you about vehicles that are
detected and class ified as critical. The display
in the respective mirror turns on, but is d im. T
he display remains dim intentionally in the
information stage so that your view toward
the front is not disturbed .
Warning stage
If you activate the turn s ignal, s ide ass ist
warns you about vehicles that are detected
and class ified as critical. The display in the re­
spective mirror blinks brightly . If this hap­
pens, check traffic by glancing in the rearview

In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane change even if it is still
somewhat far away. The fas ter a vehicle ap­
p roaches, the sooner the display in the exteri­
or m irror will t urn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as cr itical
for a lane change. All vehicles detec ted by
side assist are indicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.

@ Vehicle s left behind
If you s low ly pass a vehi cle that s ide assist has
detected (the difference in speed between the
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph or
15 km/h), the display in the exterio r mir ror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
T he disp lay will not t urn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that side assist has detected (the dif­
ference in speed between the veh icle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph or 15 km/h).
Functi onal limitations
The radar sensors are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes when the road
lanes are the normal width. In certain situa­
tions, the d isp lay in the exterior mirror may
turn on even though there is no veh icle locat­
ed in the area that is cr itical for a lane change.
For example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are dr iving
on the edge of your lane.
If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another lane that is
not adjacent to you r
current lane .
- if you a re driving through a curve. Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lan e ove r
from the adjacent lane.
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or d isp laced guard rails) .
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
functions are l imited .
Do not
cover the radar sensors c> fig. 128 with
stickers, depos its, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the funct ion. Do
not use s ide ass ist when towing a trailer. For
i nformation on cleaning, refer to
c> page 219 .

-Always pay attention to traffic and to t he
area a round your ve hicl e. S ide assist can­
not replace a driver's attention. T he driv­
er a lone is always responsible fo r lane
changes and similar driving mane uvers.

A WARNING
-The rearview camera does not show the
entire area behind the vehicle

cially for small children and animals. The rearview camera cannot always detect
them, posing risk of an accident!
- Please note that objects not touching the
ground can appear to be further away
than they really are (for example, the
bumper of a parked vehicle, a trailer
hitch, or the rear of a truck). In this case,
you should not use the help lines to help
with parking, which poses danger of an accident!

In the M MI dis play , the direction of travel
of the vehicle rear is represented depend­
ing on the steering wheel angle . The vehi­
cle front swings out more than the vehicle
rear. Maintain plenty of distance so that
your outside mirror or a corner of your
ve­
hicle does not collide with any obstacles.
This can damage to your vehicle.
Parallel Parking
Applies to vehicles: with Aud i parking system plus with
rearv i ew camera
Use parking mode 2 to help you parallel park
along the side of a street .
