-The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e .g . a cell phone, radio equip ­
ment) .
- If you open the dr iver's door with the key
left in the ign ition lock, a chime will
sound . This is your reminder to remove
the key and lock the door .
- For security reasons , replacement keys
are only available from Aud i dea lers .

key.
Using the mechanical key, you can :
- Lock and unlock the glove compartment
c::;, page 76 .
-Lock and unlock the vehicle manually
c::;, page 41 if this should not be possible
w it h the master key .

The alarm also turns off when the alarm cycle
has expired.
Turn signals
When you unlock the vehicle, the turn signals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle , the
turn signals flash once. If they do not flash,
one of the doors, the rear lid or the hood is
not locked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to
prevent you locking your remote master key in
the vehicle:
- The vehicle does not lock with the power
locking switch ¢
page 42 if the driver's
door is open.
- On vehicles with Convenience key* , if the
most recently used master key is in the lug­
gage compartment, the rear lid is automati­
cally unlocked again after it is closed.
Do not lock your vehicle with the
remote mas­
ter key or Convenience key*
until all doors
and the rear lid are closed. In this way you
avoid locking yourself out accidentally.
A WARNING
- When you leave the vehicle, always re­
move the ignition key and take it with
you. This will prevent passengers (chil­
dren, for example) from accidentally be­
ing locked in the vehicle should they acci­
dentally press the power locking switch
in the front doors .
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised . In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
@ Tips
- In the event of a crash with airbag de ­
ployment all locked doors will be auto­
matically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside .
-If the power locking system should mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key ¢
page 42.

- If the power locking system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency ¢
page 22 7.
- You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not. Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door panel comes on for about
30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
is a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system . Have the
malfunction corrected by an authorized
Audi dealership or qualified repair facili­
ty.
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the radio or in the
MM!*.
.,. Select: !CAR ! function button> Central lock­
ing .
Or
.,. Select:
...., ,c=-A ,....,Rc-, 1 function button> Car systems*
control button > Vehicle settings> (Central
locking)*.
Unlocking single door/Unlock doors -
you can
specify which doors unlock when you open the
vehicle.
- Selecting
Off/All and pressing the [®] button
on the remote control key unlocks the entire
vehicle.
- Selecting
On/Driver and pressing the~ but­
ton on the remote control key once unlocks
only the driver's door. In vehicles with a con­
venience key*, only the door whose handle
you pull will unlock. If you press the~ but­
ton twice, the entire vehicle will unlock. If
you press the~ button, the entire vehicle
will always lock .
Trunk lid/tailgate/Lock exterior trunk handle

You will find a power locking switch in each
door . You can
lo ck and unl ock the veh icle us­
ing the switches in the driver's or passenger's
door

switch, please note the following:
- You canno t open the doors o r the rear l id
from the
outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when you are s topped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power lock ing swi tches il-
lu minate when a ll the doors are closed and
l ocked.
- Front doors: you ca n un lock and ope n the
doors from the inside by pu lling on the door
hand le .
- Re ar doors: p ull the door handle
once to re­
l ease the lock. Pull the hand le
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat ­
ed, the doors automatically un lock .
A WARNING
-The power locking sw itch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- Locked doors make it more diffic ult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi- cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not
leave
anyone behind in the vehicle, especially
children.
(D Tips
Your ve hicle is locked a utomat ica lly at a
speed of 9 mph (15 km/h) (Auto locking)
<=> page 38. You can unlock the vehicle
again using the opening function in the
power lock ing system sw itch.
Emergency locking of the doors
Each door must be locked separa tely if the
power locking system fails .

An emergency lock is located on the front end
of the passenge r's door and the rear doors
(only v isible when door is open) .

all the way to the r ight (right door) or left
(left door).
Once the door has been closed, it can no lon­
ger be opened from the outs ide. The door can
be opened from the inside by pulling the door
hand le.
If the child safety lock in a rear door is
activated, you must f irst pu ll the door handle
on the inside. Then you can open the door
from the outside .

The cen ter backrest can be folded down sepa ­
rately . This makes is possible to t ransport
l ong objects (for example, skis) inside the ve ­
hicle.
A WARNING
- The back rest must always be secure ly
latched so that the safety belt of t he cen­
ter seating position ca n work p roperly to
he lp prot ect the occupant.
- The back rest must be securely latched in
posi tion so that no items contained in
the l uggage compa rtme nt can s lide fo r­
ward upon su dden braking.
- Always ch eck whether the latc h is fully
e ngaged by pull ing t he seatback fo r­
ward.
- Never a llow safety belts to become dam­
aged by be ing c aught in do or or sea t
h ar dwa re .
- T orn or frayed safe ty be lts ca n tear a nd
da mage d be lt hardware can break i n a

Belts showing damage to webbi ng, bind ­
ings, buck les, o r retractors m ust be re­

- If you move the front seat bac k w hen t he
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head restraints on the
rear seat.
- Slide the be lt g uide on the o utside safety

seat belt is not pinched or damaged
when the rea r seat backrest if fo lded
b ack.

A WARNING
-
-The backrest must a lways be securely
latched so that the safety belt of the cen­
ter seat ing pos ition can work properly to
help protect the occupant .
- The backrest must be securely latched in
position so that no items contained in
the luggage compartment can slide for­
wa rd upon sudden braking .
-Always check whether the latch is fu lly
engaged by p ulling the seatback for­
ward .
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in doo r or seat
hardware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt hardware can break in a
crash . Inspect the be lts periodically.
Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, b uckles, or retractors must be re­
placed .
(D Note
-If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head restraints on the
rear seat.
- Slide the be lt guide on the outside safety
belt all the way up before folding the
backrest back forward. Make sure the
seat belt is not pinched or damaged

back. Other objects should be removed
from the rear seat bench to protect the sea tback from damage.
Tie-down rings
There are four tie-down rings in the luggage
compartment for securing Luggage items.

In a collision, the laws of physics mean that
even smaller items that a re loose in the vehi­
cl e w ill turn into heavy m iss iles that can cause
serious injury. Items in the vehi cle pick up ki­
netic e nergy which var ies with the vehicle and
the weight of the item. Vehicle speed is the
most significant factor.
F or example, in a fronta l collision at a speed
of 30 mph (48 km/h), the forces acting on a
10 -lb (S kg) object are abo ut
20 times the
normal weight of the item. This means that
the weight of the item would sudden ly be the
equivalent of about 200 lbs (90 kg). One can
easily imagine the injuries that an item of that""

weight flying freely through the passenger
compartment can cause in a co llision at a
speed considered relatively low .
.&_ WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to tie-downs can fail dur­
ing hard brak ing or in a collision and cause
ser ious personal injury.
- Always use suitable retaining straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help pre­
vent items from sh ifting or flying for­
wa rd.
- When the rear seat backrest is folded down, always use su itab le retain ing
straps and properly sec ure items to the
t ie-downs in the luggage compartment
to help prevent items from flying for­
ward into the passenger compartment .
- Never attach a child safety seat tether
strap to a tie -down .

- To prevent acc idents, never instal l the
luggage compartmen t cover unsecured .
- Whenever driving, neve r pla ce any hard
or heavy objects on the luggage com­
partment or allow pets to sit on the lug ­
gage compartment cover. They could be­
come a hazard to vehicle occ upants in
the event of sudden braking or in an acci­
dent.

You cou ld damaged a stored luggage com­
partment cover when you move the rear
seat or rear seat backrest.
(D Tips
- You can use the luggage compartment
cover to store light weight clothing or ar­
ticles but do not leave any heavy or sharp
objects in the pockets of the clothing.
- Remember that plac ing clothing or arti ­
cles on the luggage compartment
cover
can block the driver's vision in the rear
view mirror. This also applies especially
when you have to transport large ob­
jects.
- So that stale air can escape from the ve­
hicle be su re not to cove r the ventilation
slot between the rear lid and the lug­
gage compa rtment cover.

cargo floor .

Removing the cargo floor, installing
.. To remove, lift the cargo floor fo lded to­
gether and pu ll it toward the rear lid.
.. To install, place the folded cargo floor into
both retainers and unfold it.
Grab the protective tray on the hand les and
pull it out. You can also install a divider to di­
vide @the storage area. Depending on the
vehicle equ ipment level, the protective tray
can have different sizes and shapes.

Roof rack
Description
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the follow ing:
- Only a specially designed roof rack may be
used on your vehicle roof. This is provided
with your vehicle.
- These roof racks are the basis for a complete
roof rack system. Additional attachments
are necessary if you want to transport lug­
gage, b icycles, surf boards and skis . All
these components are available at your au­
thorized Audi dealer .

If you use other roof luggage rack systems
or do not install the racks as intended, any
damage to the vehicle is not covered by ..,.

A WARNING
Check all the roof rack connect ions each
time before eac h tr ip and re -tighten or re ­
adjust if necessary. If you are going to be
driving or rough terra in, you will have to
check the at tachments more often.
If you
do not do th is, the risk of yo ur luggage
coming loose and fa lling off is greater.
The p ins and the roof rack claws must en­
gage secure ly into the holes and in to the
edge of the roof ra iling when you tighten
the screws!
(j) Tips
You can adjust the width of the roof rac k
by using a hexagon wrench and turning the
screws on t he top . Let your author ized
Audi dea ler help you with this .

Roof load
The cargo on the roof must be securely at ­
tached. Handling charac teristics change
when cargo is transpor ted.
The permissib le roof load for your veh icle is
165 lbs (75 kg ). The roof lo ad is the total of
the weight o f the roof rack, the attachment s
and the cargo you are carrying .
A WARNING
-The cargo m ust be sec urely attached on
the roof rack, otherwise you ris k an acci­
dent.
- Distrib ute the load as evenly as possib le
and do not make the roof rack wider than
the maximum permitted.
- You must under no circ umstances exceed
the permissible roof load, the permiss i­
b le ax le loads a nd the pe rm issib le over all
weight of your veh icle -risk of an acc i­
dent .
- Mou nt t he attachments to the roo f ra ck
only after you have placed the roof rack
on the vehicle .
- Consider that when tra nspo rting heavy
objects or one w ith a large s urface, the
handling characteristics change due to
shift in the center of gravity or the great­
er surface exposed to the w ind . So adapt
your driving and your speed to prevailing
conditions . We recommend that you do
not drive faster than 80 mph (130 km/
h) .
- Mounti ng a roof rack changes the heig ht
of your vehicle . Keep this in mind when
parking your vehicle in your ga rage, o r
when dr iv ing t hrough a tunne l o r u nder
a n overpass.

cargo on the roof rack when you open it.
On vehicles with automatic rear lid/trunk
lid operation" you may have to adjust the
open position of the rear lid

-Remove the roof rack and attachment
before taking your vehicle through an au­
tomatic car wash to avoid damage.
@ For the sake of the environment
As a result of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
using fuel unnecessarily. So remove the
roof rack after using it.

Holding beverages at the rear
• To adjust the arm @, swing it in the direc­
tion of the arrow.
• Place the beverage in the holder and release
the arm. The arm swings back by its elf and
automatically secures the beverage.
Closing the rear cupholders
• To close the rear cupholder, press on the
center section between the two arms and
push the cupho lder in the slot as far as it
will go.
The holding arm must be adjusted such that it
lies closely against the cupholder.
A maximum of two beverages can be placed in
the center armrest.
A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident
and personal injury.
-
-Never carry any beverage conta iners with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,
in the vehicle while it is moving . In case
of an accident, sudden braking or other
vehicle movement, hot liquid could spill,
causing scalding burns. Spilled hot liquid
can also cause an accident and personal injury.
- Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and glasses can cause injury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray - risk of fire.
CD Note
Only drink containers with lids should be
carried in the cupholder. liquid could spill
out and damage your vehicle's electronic
equipment or stain the upholstery, etc.

98 Hybrid -Do not transport fluids in open contain­
ers in the luggage compartment. Spilled
fluids can seep underneath the cargo
floor. This can damage the high voltage
system.
Starting the vehicle
App lies to vehicles: with hybrid drive
The vehicle is started and turned off either
with the ignition key~
page 83 or with the
I START ENGIN E STOP ! button* ~ page 86 in
the same way as a conventional vehicle .
When starting the vehicle, the needles in the instrument cluster move upward briefly .
When the vehicle enters drive ready mode,
the status message
hybrid ready appears
briefly in the instrument cluster display and
the needle in the power meter points to
READY ~ page 98.
Depending on the operation mode of the hy­
brid system, there are two possible drive
ready modes after the vehicle has been start­
ed:
Power meter overview
Applies to vehicles: with hybrid dr ive
Drive ready mode with combustion engine
If the operating requirements~ page 100 for
electric drive mode are
not met, the combus­
tion engine starts the vehicle as usual. You can start driving as usual.
Drive ready mode with the electric motor
If the operating requirements~ page 100 for
the electric drive mode are met, the combus­
tion engine remains off after starting the ve­
hicle.
(0 Tips
To prevent the 12 volt battery from dis­
charging, never leave the vehicle parked in
the drive ready mode. Remove the key
from the ignition or press the
I START ENGINE STOP! button* . When
leaving the vehicle always take the key
with you.
The power meter shows the hybrid drive condition and the availability of the hybrid system.
