Seats and storage
General information
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only
provide maximum protection if the front seats are correctly adjusted .
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the dr iver and the front passenger . Adjust
your seat properly so that:
- you can easily and quickly reach all the switches
and controls in the instrument panel
- your body is properly supported thus reducing
physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and a irbag system can offer
maximum protection ¢
page 148.
In the following sections, you will see exact ly
how you can best adjust your seats.
There are spec ial regulat ions and instr uctions for
installing a c hild safety seat on the front pas­
senger 's seat . Always fo llow the information re­
garding child safety provided in ¢
page 168,
Child safety.
A WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the driver and all
other passengers can result in serious person­
al injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when the
vehicle is in motion - never put your feet on
top o f the instrument pane l, o ut of the win­
dow o r on top of the sea t cushion. This ap­
plies espe cially to the passenge rs.
If your
seat ing pos ition is inco rre ct, you increase
the risk of injury in the case of sudden b rak­
ing or an accident . If the airbag inf lates and
the seating position is incor rect, this could
result in personal injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front
passenge r to keep a d istance o f at least
10 inches (25 cm) between themselves and
the steering wheel and/or instrument pan­ el. If you're s itting any closer than this, the
airbag system cannot pro tect you properly.

In addition, the front seats and head re­
straints must be adjusted to your body
he ight so that they can give you maximum
protection .
- Always try to keep as much distance as pos­
sible between yourself and the steer ing
wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front passeng­
er's seat while the veh icle is moving. Yo ur
seat may move unexpectedly, causing sud­
den loss of vehicle contro l and personal in­
jury. If you ad just yo ur seat while the veh icle
is moving, you a re o ut of pos ition.
, Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving .
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's seat
i n the following manner:
.. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so that
you can easi ly push the pedals to the floor
while keep ing your knees slightly bent¢

.. Adjust the seatback so that when yo u sit with
your back agains t the seatback, you can still
gras p the top of the steering wheel.
.. Adjust the head res traint so the uppe r edge is
as even as possib le w ith the top of you r head. If
that is not possible, try to adjust the head re ­
straint so that it is as close to this pos it ion as
possible ¢

A WARNING
Neve r place any objects in the dr iver's foo t­
well. An object could get into the pedal area and inte rfere with pedal function. In case of
sud den bra king or an ac cident, you w ould no t
be ab le to b rake o r accelerate.

Front passenger's seat
Always move the front pas senger seat into the
rearmost position .
To avoid contact with the airbag while it is de­
ploying, do not sit any closer to the instrument
panel than necessary and always wear the three ­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly . We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
.. Move the front passenger seat into the rear ­
most position of the fore and aft adjustment
range

• Bring the backrest up to an (almost) upright
position.
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
.. Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge is
as even as possible with the top of your head. If
that is not possible, try to adjust the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this position as
possible

.. Place your feet on the floor in front of the pas ­
senger's seat .

- Never adjust the driver's or front passeng­
er 's seat while the vehicle is moving.
If you
do this while the vehicle is moving, you will
be out of position . Always adjust the driver's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving.
- Be careful when adjusting the seat height.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or se­
rious injury could result!
- Because the seats can be electrically adjust­
ed with the ignition off or with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle . Unsupervised use of the
electric seat adjustments may cause serious injury .
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front passen­
gers must never ride in a moving veh icle
with the backrest reclined. Safety belts and
the airbag system only offer maximum pro­
tection when the backrest is upright and the
safety belts are properly positioned on the
body. The more the backrest is reclined, the
greater the risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating position and improperly
positioned safety belts.

The center backrest can be fo lded down sepa­
rately. This makes is possible to transport long
ob jects (for example, skis) inside the vehicle.
_& WARNING
-The backrest must always be securely latch­
ed so that the safety belt of the center seat­
ing position can work properly to help pro ­
tect the occupant .
- The backrest must be securely latched in po­
sition so that no items contained in the lug ­
gage compartment can sl ide forwa rd upon
sudden b raking.
- Always check whether the latch is fully en­
gaged by pu lling the seatback forward .
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by be ing caught in door or seat hard­
ware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged be lt hardware ca n break in a
cras h. Inspect the belts pe riodically. Bel ts
show ing damage to webb ing, bindings,
buckles, or ret rac tors must be replaced.

- If you move the fron t seat back when the

- The backrest must always be secu rely latch-
ed so that the safety belt of the center seat­
ing position can work proper ly to help pro­
tect the occupant.
- The backrest must be securely latched in po­
sit ion so that no items contained in the l ug­
gage compartment can slide forward upon
sudden braking.
- Always check whether the latch is fully en­
gaged by pulling the seatback forward.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat hard­
wa re.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt hardware can break in a
c rash. Inspect the belts periodically . Belts
showing damage to webbing, bi ndings,
buckles, or retractors must be rep lac ed .

Tie-down rings
There are four tie-down rings in the luggage
compartment for se curing luggage items .

Storing cargo correctly .
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to
secure items to tie-downs can fai l dur ing hard
braking or in a collision and cause ser ious per­
sona l injury .
- Always use suitable retaining straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the l uggage compartment to help prevent
ite ms from shi ft ing or flying forward.
- When the rear seat backrest is folded down,
always use suitable re taini ng straps and
proper ly secure i tems to the tie-downs in

Removing the cargo floor , installing
• To remove, lift t he cargo floor folded together
and pull it toward the rear lid .
• To install, place the folded cargo floor into
both retainers and unfold it.
Grab the protective tray on the ha ndles and pu ll
it out. You can also install a divider to divide @
the storage area. Depending on the vehicle
equipment level, the protective tray can have dif­
ferent sizes and shapes .

The storage net on the right side trim can be
moved lower on the side guides, if needed

The storage hooks can be used to secure shop­
ping bags from falling over

A WARNING
Do not use the storage hooks to secure heavy
objects. Heavier objects are not adequately
secured. There is risk of pe rsonal injury.
Seats and storag e
Roof rack
Description
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof lug­
gage rack .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the following:
- On ly a specially designed roof rack may be used
on your vehicle roof. This is provided with your
veh icle .
- These roof racks are the basis for a complete
roof rack system . Additional attachments are
necessary if you want to transport luggage, bi­
cycles, surf boards and skis. All these compo­
nents are ava ilable at your a uthorized Aud i
dea le r.
(D Note
If you use other roof luggage rack systems or
do not install the racks as intended, any dam­
age to the vehicle is not covered by the war­
r anty. Always read the ma nufactu rer installa­
tion ins tructions that came with yo ur roof
rack system when yo u install the atta ch­
ments.
(D Tips
When ins tall ing a factory-supp lied roof rac k
system on the roof railing, the ESC will adapt
i tself to a differe nt center of gravity .

The roof rack can only be attached at the
marked locations .

Holding beverages at the rear
• To adju st the arm @, swing it in the direct ion
of the ar row .
• Place the beverage in the holde r and re lease
the a rm . T he arm swings back by itself and au ­
tomat ically secures the bev erage.
Clo sing the rear cupholders
• To close the rear cupholder, press on the center
section between the two arms and p ush the c u­
pholder in the s lot as far as it will go.
The ho ld ing arm must be adjusted such that it
lies closely against the cupholder.
A max imum o f two beve rages can be pla ced in
the center armrest .
A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident and
personal inju ry .
- Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea, in
the vehicle while it is moving . In case of an
acc ident, sudden braking or other vehicle
movement, hot liquid could spill, causing
sca ld ing burns . Spilled hot liquid can also
cause a n accident and personal in ju ry.
- U se only soft c ups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and g lasses can cause injury in an acci­
dent.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an ashtray -risk of fire .
CD Note
Only dr ink con tainers with lids should be car­
r ied in the cupholder. Liquid co uld sp ill out
and damage your vehicle's elec tronic equip­
ment or stain the upho lstery, etc .

When cooling, the temperature of the bev erage
holder base will go down to approximately 41
°F
(5 °C) . When warm ing , the temperatu re will be
a ppro ximately 136
°F (58 °(). At 104 °F (40 °()
the warming display will come on@. This is re ­
minder not to touch the base because it is hot .
The display goes out if the temperature falls be­ l ow this val ue.
A WARNING
- Never touch the beve rage holder base when
the warming d isplay is on. You can b urn
yourse lf!
- Do not use breakab le beve rage containers
(for examp le made out of g lass or porce­
la in). Yo u could be injured by them in case
of an accident.
CD Note
M ake sure your beverage ho lder has a lid. If
not, your beverage could spill out and cause
damage to the veh icle electronic or stain the
seat covers .

when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that any­
thing you may have placed in the center con­
sole or other storage locations cannot fall out into the footwells. In case of sudden
braking you would not be able to brake or
accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view.
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
we ight cloth ing. Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove comportment is illuminated and can
be locked.

.,. Pull the handle in the direction of the arrow
c:> fig. 92 and swing the cover down to open .
To close glove compartment
.,. Push the glove compartment lid upward until
the lock engages.
There are holders for a pen and a pad of paper in
the glove compartment lid.
On the right side in the glove compartment is a holder with the key body into which the emergen­
cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve­
hicle.

A WARNING
-To reduce the risk of personal injury in an acci-
dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed while driving.
Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-condi­
tioning is in cooling mode.

The cooling box works only in the cooling mode.
If the climate control is in the heating mode, we
recommend switching the cooling box off .

Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms , cools and
adds humidity to the a ir in the veh icle inter ior. It
i s the most effective when the windows and pan­
oramic sliding sunroof* ar e closed. If th ere is a
bui ld-up of heat inside th e vehicle, ventilation
can help to sp eed up th e cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
b lower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture .
Condensat ion from the cooling system can drip
and fo rm a puddle of water unde r the vehicle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
Pollut ant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specified in your Warranty
& Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the a ir condit ione r can
p roperly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air
pollution , the filter may need to be changed
mo re frequently than specified in your Aud i Wa r­
ranty
& Ma intenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your author ized Audi Service Advisor for advice .
Key co ded setting s
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is i n use .
_&. WARNING
Reduced visib ility is dangerous and can ca use
accidents.
- For safe dr iv ing it is very impo rtant that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condens a­
tion .
Warm and c old
- Completely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and especially how to de­
fog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshie ld first, using the heat ­
ing and vent ilation system . The washe r solu­
tion may freeze on the w indshield and re­
duce visibility.

- If you suspect that the air conditioner has bee n damaged, sw itch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a qualified dea lership.
- Repa irs to the Aud i a ir cond itioner requ ire
special techn ical know ledge and spec ial
t ools. Contact an a uthorized Audi dea ler fo r
assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reduc ing the amo unt of fuel you use, yo u
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the air.
(D Tips
- Keep the a ir intake slots (in fro nt of t he
w indshield) free from ice , snow and debr is
in orde r to maintain the proper function of
the climate control system .
- T he energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily . These systems are availab le
again as soon as the energy ba lance has
been restored .
- The a ir flowing out of the vents and
throughout the vehicle's ent ire inter ior is
discharged at the rear of the vehicle . Make
sure that the out let slots are not covered by
cloth ing , etc.

Emergency brake function
An emergency brake ensures tha t the vehicle can
be slowed down even if the
normal brakes fai l
¢ page 88, Emergency braking.
A WARNING
If a drive range is engaged with t he vehicle
stat iona ry and the engine running, you must
in no instance accelerate care lessly . Other­
w ise the vehicle will start to move immed iate­
ly- risk of a n accide nt.
(D Tips
- If the parking brake is app lied with the igni­
tion switched off, the indicator lights in the
switch and . (USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) in the instrumen t cluster will go
out af ter a ce rtain per io d of t ime .
- Occasiona l noises when the park ing brake is
applied and re leased a re normal and a re not
a cause for conce rn.
- When the vehicle is parked, the park ing
brake goes th ro u gh a se lf-tes t cycle at regu­
l a r i nte rva ls . Any associated noises a re no r­
mal.
Parking
~ P ress the brake ped al to stop the vehicle.
~ Pull the switch c::> page 86, fig. 102 to set the
parking b rake.
~ Move the selecto r lever to P .
~ Turn the eng ine off c::> .&, .

~ When on incl ines or declines, turn the steering
wheel so that the veh icle w ill roll into the curb
if it beg ins to move .
A WARNING
-Whe n you leave your ve hicl e -even if onl y
br iefly- alw ays remove the ig nition key. Thi s
applies p articul arly when children rem ain i n
t h e ve hicle . Othe rwise the c hildren could
sta rt the eng ine, release t he parking brake
o r operate elect rical eq uipment (e.g. powe r
windows). There is the risk of an accident.
- When the vehicle is loc ke d , no one - part icu­
larly not children shou ld remain in the vehi-
-

cle. Locked doors make it more d ifficult for
emergency wo rkers to get into the vehicle -
putting lives at r isk.
Starting from rest
The starting assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon starting.
Stopping and applying parking brake
~ Pull the sw itch to app ly the parkin g brake.
Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake
~ W he n you start to drive as usu a l, t he p ark ing
b rake is automa tic ally released and yo ur vehicle
beg ins to move.
When stop ping at a tr affic sig nal or sto pping in
c ity traff ic on vehicles wi th an aut omat ic t ra ns­
mission, t he parking brake can be app lied . The
vehicle does not have to be held with the foot­
bra ke. The pa rking brake e liminates the tendency
to c reep w ith a dr ive range engaged. As soon as
you drive off as usual, the parking brake is re­ leased a utomat ica lly and the vehicle starts to
move .
Starting on slopes
When starting on incl ines, the sta rting assist pre­
vents the vehicle from un intent iona lly rolling
back. The b raking force of the parking brake is
not re leased unt il su ff icient dr iving force has
been buil t up at t he wheels .
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the park ing brake is re­
l eased automatically on ly when t he d river's
safety be lt is engaged in t he buc kle.
Starting off with a trailer
To prevent rolling back unintentionally on an in­
cline, do the following:
~ Keep the switch pulled and depress the acceler­
ator . The parking brake stays applied and pre-
vents the veh icle from roll ing backward . .,,.

engine will not be switched off in the following
situations:
- T he eng ine has not reached the mi nimum re·
quired temperature fo r Start-Stop-mode .
- T he inter io r temperat ure selected by the A/C
system has not been reached.
- T he outs ide temperatu re is ext remely high/low.
- The w indshield is being defrosted
c:> page 79 .
-The park ing system* is switched on.
- The battery charge leve l is too low.
- The steering wheel is sharply tu rned or there is
a steering movement.
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines.

Engine automatically restarts
The stop phase is interrupted in the following sit·
uations, fo r example . The engi ne restarts without
any action by the dr iver .
- The inter ior temperatu re varies from the tern·
perature se lected in the A/C system .
- The w indshield is beeing defrosted
c:> page 79.
- The brake pedal is pressed severa l times in a
row.
- The battery charge leve l becomes too low.
Switching the ignit ion off automat ically
To prevent the battery from dra ining, the ignition
will switch off
automat ically when all of the fol ·
low ing conditions have bee n met:
- The veh icle has already been driven.
- The eng ine has been turned off by the Start ·
Stop-System.
- The driver's door is opened .
- T he driver's seat bel t is removed .
- T he brake pedal is no t pressed down.
- T he veh icle is sta tionary.
In th is case, the activated low beam will be re·
p laced by the s ide marker lights . T he side marker

lights w ill switch off a fter approximate ly 30 mi·
nutes or when you lock the vehicle.
If t he S tart-S to p-Sy stem has not tu rne d off the
engine or if yo u have swi tched the S tar t-Stop·
System off manually, the ignition wi ll
not be au ­
tomatica lly switched off and t he eng ine wi ll con­
tin ue to run

Never a llow the engine to run in conf ined

If you shift into the 0/5 or N positions after
shift ing into reverse, the vehicle must be dr iv·
en faste r than 6 mph
(10 km/h) in o rder for
the eng ine to switch off again.
Switching the Start -Stop-System on /off
manually
App lies to: vehicles with Start-Stop-System
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.
