• Never adjust the driver's or front passenger's seat while the
vehicle is moving.
If you do this while the vehicle is moving, you
will be out of position . Always adjust the driver's or front
passenger's seat when the vehicle is not moving.

& WARNING
• Never adjust the seatback while the vehicle is moving . If you
adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you are out of posi­
tion. Never adjust the seatback when the vehicle is moving.
• To reduce the risk of injury in the case of sudden braking or
accident, front passengers must never ride in a moving vehicle
with the seatback reclined. Safety belts and the airbag system
only offer maximum protection when the seatback is upright and
the safety belts are properly positioned on the body. The more the
seatback is reclined, the greater the risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating position and improperly positioned safety
belts. •
Lumbar support
The lumbar support can be adjusted to fit the natural
curvature of the occupant's spine.

- Push the forward depression on the switch shell to
incre ase the curvature.

rear depression on the switch shell in order to
decrease the curvature.

support to a
higher position in the backrest.

bottom depression on the switch shell to move
the support to a
lower position in the backrest.
The lumbar support is particularly effective in supporting the
natural curvature of the spine so that the seating position is more
comfortable over long distances.
& WARNING
Never adjust the lumbar support while the vehicle is moving. If you
adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you are out of posi­
tion. Never adjust the seatback when the vehicle is moving .•

Adjusting the manual front passenger 's seat
Position, angle and shape of the manual front passenger's
seat can be adjusted to provide safe and comfortable
seating.
Reed and heed all WARNINGS => & before you adjust your
seat.
Moving the seat forward or backward
-Lift the lever ©=> fig. 89 and slide the seat to the desired
position.
- Release the lever and then move the seat further until
you feel and hear it engage .
Adjusting the seat height
-Pull
the lever 0 up and pump it to raise the seat.
- Push the lever down and pump it to lower the seat.
Adjusting the seatback angle
-Lean forward to take your weight off the seatback.
- Turn the hand wheel

seatback to tilt.
& WARNING
• Never adjust the front passenger's seat while the vehicle is
moving. If you do this while the vehicle is moving, you will be out
of position. Always adjust the front passenger's seat when the
vehicle is not moving .

time. When the vehicle is unlocked , the settings stored on the
remote control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key, you should save your individual seat position on one of the
memory buttons. You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by pressing the corresponding memory button. When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re-assigned to
the remote control key and stored.
& WARNING
• For safety reasons , the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwise you risk having an accident.
• In an emergency, the recall operation can be stopped by
pressing the [
ON/OFF l button or by briefly pressing any given
memory button. •

Activating remote control key memory
To be able to recall the stored settings with the remote
control key, the function has to be activated in the MM/.

Rear seats
General information
Safe transportation of passengers on the rear seats
requires proper safety precautions.
All passengers on the rear seats must be seated in compliance with
the safety guidelines explained in=> page 231 and=> page 241. The
correct seating position is critical for the safety of front and rear
seat passengers alike=> page 224.
& WARNING
• Occupants in the front and rear seats must always be properly
restrained.
• Do not let anyone ride in the vehicle without the head restraints
provided. Head restraints help to reduce injuries.
• Loose items inside the passenger compartment, can fly
forward in a crash or sudden maneuver and injure occupants.
Always store articles in the luggage compartment and use the
fastening eyes, especially when the rear seat backs have been
folded down .

Adjusting seat (second rovv seating)
The fore-and-aft adjustment* of the seat cushion and the
seat back angle can be adjusted.

- Pull the lever up and push the seat back toward the rear
to the desired position
=> fig. 92 . Release the lever.
- Pull the lever up so that the seat back pivots forward.
Release the lever and push the seat back to the rear to
return the seat back to the normal position .

Fore-and-aft adjustment*
- Pull the handle up and push the seat forward or back
=> fig. 93 .
- Release the handle and continue to push the seat until
the seat latch engages.
& WARNING
• For safety reasons, the seat must only be adjusted when the
vehicle is stationary· danger of accident!
• Exercise caution when adjusting the seat. Adjusting the seat
without checking or paying attention can pinch fingers or limbs -
danger of injury! •

Entry assist (second rovv seating)
The entry assist makes it easier for occupants to reach the
third row seating*.

- Push the seat back.
- Fold the seat back up unt il it latches.
To make entry to and exit from the rear of the vehicle easier, the seat
backs for the second row seating can be folded forward . At the
same time, the seats can be pushed forward and to the rear .•

The third row seating is suitable for persons up to 1.6
meters (5
ft 3 in) in height.

- Lift the lever -Arrow -~ fig. 95 and raise the seat back
until it locks.
- Raise the head restraint until it locks .
Folding seat back down
- Lift the lever -Arrow-~ fig. 96 and fold the seat back
down completely until it locks.
- The head restraint is automatically tipped down.
& WARNING
• Only persons up to a height of 5 feet 3 inches (1.6 ml may be
carried on the seats in the third row.
• Exercise caution when folding the seat backs up and down.
Inattentiveness or carelessness when folding the seat back
up and
down can pinch fingers or hands.
• Always check whether the latch is fully engaged by pulling the
seat back forward. •

Head restraints
Adjusting head restraints , front seats
The head restraints must be adjusted properly to provide
protection.

The head restraints on the front seats can be adjusted to
provide safe support to head and neck at the optimum
height. When optimally adjusted, the top of the restraint
should be level with the top of the head
=> page 225,
"Proper adjustment of head restraints".
Raising head restraint
Grasp the side of the head restraint with both hands.
- Adjust the head restraints so that the top of the head
restraint is
at least level with your eyes or higher
=> fig. 97.
Lowering head restraint
-Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands.
- Press the button
=> fig. 97 and adjust the head restraint.

Refer to=> page 225, "Proper adjustment of head restraints" for
guidelines on how to adjust the height of the front head restraints
to suit the occupant's body size.

• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of serious or fatal neck
injury dramatically.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and safety belts are an extremely
effective combination of safety features. •
Outer head restraints
Passengers may only be carried in the outer rear seats
when the head restraint is raised.

If the outer rear seat is not occupied, you can lower the head
restraint to obtain better vision to the rear.

- Push the head restraint up aga in until it latches with an
audible click .

• The head restraints for the outer seats in the second row must
be folded up when persons are being carried in the third row
seating* -danger of injury!

Center rear head restraints
Passengers may only be carried in the center rear seat if
the head restraint has been raised to its uppermost posi ­
tion.

When the rear seats are not occupied , you can lower the
head restraints (park position) and obtain better rearward
vision .
Moving the head restraints to the "in-use
position"
- Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands.
- Move the head restraint to the uppermost position
~ fig. 99 until it latches (in-use position).
Moving the head restraints to the "park
position"
-Press the button -Arrow- and at the same time push the
head restraint down until it is lying against the rear seat
back (park position).
& WARNING
• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted dramatically increases the risk of serious or
fatal neck injury.

Arm rest
The arm rest contains a storage compartment and two
cup holders .

The second cup holder is located under a cover.

• Never carry any beverage containers with hot liquids, such as
hot coffee or hot tea, in the vehicle while it is moving. In case of an
accident, sudden braking or other vehicle movement, hot liquid
could spill, causing scalding burns. Spilled hot liquid can also
cause an accident and personal injury.
• Use only soft cups in the cupholder . Hard cups and glasses can
cause injury in an accident.

Long center console

There are two cupholders and a sto rage bin in the long rear
center console . The arm rest is also height adjustable.
Beverage holder
Tap the cover=> fig. 101 -Arrow -for it to open automati ­
cally .
Push the cover down to close the bin.
Storage compartment
Lift the cover by the front to open the compartment.
Push the cover down to close the bin.

Adjusting the arm rest
- Press the release button. The arm rest moves up auto ­
matically.
- Release the button when the desired height is reached.
- Press the release button again and at the same time push
the arm rest down to lower it.
