Introduction
There are various media drives and connections
avai lab le in the MMI. For example, you can p lay
aud io/video* fi les from the Jukebox* or connect
your mob ile dev ice to the Aud i m usic interface *
and operate it through the MMI.
Notes
General information
Media and format restrictions :
the MMI (includ­
in g the SD card reade r and the USB storage de­
vice co nnect ion *) was tested w ith a var iety of
products and media on the market. However,
there may be cases where ind iv idual devices or
media and audio/video files" may not be recog­
n ized, may play o nly w ith restr ictions, o r may not
p lay a t all.

that are on a sto rage medium, the longer it will
take to load the audio/video* files . Audi recom­
mends us ing storage media tha t on ly conta in au­
d io/video files* . T o decrease the t ime it takes to
load audio/v ideo f iles*, crea te subfo lders ( fo r ex­
a m ple , fo r th e a rt ist o r album). The loading time
will also increa se whe n importing fi les.
Additional information : when playing, audio
fil es are automatically displayed with any add i­
tional informa tion that is s to red (such as the ar­
tis t, track and al bum cover).

CD/DVD operation
CD /DVD and format restrictions :
th e f unct iona li­
ty o f indivi dual sto rage media m ay be limi ted due
to t he v ariety of b lank C Ds/DV Ds av a ila b le and
t h e v arious cap acities. Audio CDs or video DV Ds
with copy protection, CDs/D VDs that do not con­
form to the standard and mult isess ion CDs may
hav e limit ed playback or may not play at all. Audi
r ecommends finali zing the recording process
whe n creat ing mult isess ion CDs . Mult isess ion is
not supported for DVDs .
Using CDs/DVDs, the CD dr ive or the DVD drive :
to ensure correct, hig h-q uality playback and to
prevent damage to the dr ive or disc read ing er ­
r ors, always store CDs/DVDs in a protec tive
s leeve and do no t expose them to direct s unlight .
Do

- Damaged, dirty or sc ratched CDs/DVDs
- Single CDs/DVDs with 3 in (8 cm) d iameter
- CD/DVDs that a re not roun d

Thermal protection switch : CD/DVD playback
may be temporarily unavailable if o utside tem ­
p eratures a re extremely hot or co ld. A t hermal
pro tect io n sw itch is insta lled t o protect the C D/
DVD and t he laser.

Media
-Do not u se any wireless devices on the fro nt
seats within range of the airba gs w hile driv­
ing. Also read and follow the warnings in

CD Note
- Always follow the information found in c> 0
in Wi-Fi hotspot on page 195 .
- Please note that there ge nerally are add i­
tiona l costs when using an online media
service account, especially when it is used i nternationally.

- Depending on the Internet connection and
network traff ic, a connection loss can occur
during p layback of on line media serv ices.
- Online media and Internet radio usage de­
pends on the serv ice avai lability of the third
party provider.

Multimedia connections
USB adapter for Audi music interface
You can connect your mobile devices (such as a
smartphone or MP3 player) to the Audi music in­
terface and charge them using a special USB
adapter .

A WARNING
Driving requires your complete and undivided
attention. As the driver, you have complete
responsibility for safety in traffic. Never oper­
ate mob ile dev ices wh ile driving, because this
increases the risk of an acc ident.

- Remove the connector from the Audi music
interface carefully so it is not damaged.
- Use a USB extens ion cable to connect dev i­
ces that have an integrated USB connector
(such as a USB stick) to prevent damage to
your USB device and the Audi music inter­
face.
- Extremely high or low temperatures that
can occur inside vehicles can damage mobile
dev ices and/or impair their performance.
Never leave mob ile devices in the vehicle i n
extreme ly high or low temperatures.

-When you switch the ign ition off, the USB
ports are still supplied w ith power until the
ene rgy management intervenes.
- Do not use an addit ional adapte r or USB ex­
tension cable to connect mobile devices to
the Audi music interface that already have a
cable or that must be connected with a USB

um are available. For example, CD/DVD­
ROM tracks cannot be selected with catego­

- For safety reasons, the video image is only
displayed when the vehicle is stationary. On­
ly the sound from the video plays while driv­

- When synchronizing a portable device with

If you select DD.MM .YYYY , the date display will

You can change the display language as well as

Tool tips
When this function is switched on~' your MMI
shows you tips for input . The frequency of how
often it displays decreases with time.
Speech dialog system
Applies to: vehicles wit h voice recognition system
Depending on vehicle equipment, the following
functions may be available:
Command display : when this function is switch­
ed on ~, the MMI will show you the possible
commands for voice input in the respective
menu.
Short dialog : when this function is switched on
~. a shorter form of the prompts is used .
Command during voice output*: this function is
switched on at the factory . When this function is
switched on~. you can say new commands dur-
ing announcements. You do not need to wait for
the signal tone (beep) during an announcement.

Volume: yo u can adjust the volume of the

Individual speech training (only when the vehi­
cle is stat ionary): you can adapt the voice recog­
n it ion system to your voice or pronunciation in
order to improve the system's ability to recognize
your speech . Individua l training is comprised of
20 speech entries that consist of commands and
sequences of numbers. You can delete the pro ­
grammed voice tra ining w ith the
Reset individu­

Display brightness
You can adjust the brightness of the Infotain­
m ent system disp lay by turning the contro l knob.

The individua l safety features of your vehicle can
work together as a system to help protect you
and your passengers in a wide range of accidents.
These features cannot work as a system if they
are not always correctly adjusted and correctly
used .
This chapter contains important informat ion,
tips, instruct ions and warn ings that you need to
read and observe for your own safety, the safety
of your passengers and others . We have summar­
ized here what you need to know about safety
be lts , a ir bags, child restra ints as well as child
safety. Yo ur sa fe ty is for us
priority number 1 . Al­
ways observe the information and wa rnings in
this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers.
The informa tion in this section applies to all
model ve rsions of your vehicle . Some of the fea­
tures described in th is sections may be standard
equipment on some models, or may be optional
equ ipment on others. If you are not sure, ask
your author ized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structio ns and heed the WARNINGS in th is
manual. It is in your inte rest and i n the in­
te res t of your passengers .
- Always keep all of the Owner 's L ite rature

Safety is everybody 's job! Vehicle and occupant
safety always depends on the informed and care­
ful driver .
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before d riv ing always:
.. Make sure that a ll lights and signals are operat­
ing correctly .

.. Make sure that all windows are clean and afford

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of
the vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's abili­
ty to concentrate on the road without being dis­
tracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the ve­hicle and a ll of its occupants. If your ability to
drive is impa ired, safety risks for everybody in the
vehicle increase and you a lso become a hazard to
everyone else on the road ¢

.. Do not let yourse lf be distracted by passenge rs
or by using a cellular telephone .
.. NEVER drive when your driving ability is im­
pa ired (by med ications, alcohol, drugs, etc .) .
.. Observe all traffic laws, r ules of the road and
speed lim its and plain common sense . .,.

-Never attempt to adjust head restraint
wh ile driving. If you have dr iven
off and
must adjust the driver headrest for any rea­
son, first stop the vehicle safely before at­
tempting to adjust the head restra int.
- Children must always be properly restrained
in a child restraint that is appropriate for
their age and size

Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only reduce
the risk of injury if vehicle occupants are properly
seated .
Improper seating positions can cause serious in­
jury or deat h. Safety belts can only work when
they are properly positioned on the body . Im­
proper seating positions reduce the effect iveness
of safety belts and w ill even increase the r isk of
i njur y and dea th by moving the safety be lt to crit­
ical areas of the body. Impro per sea ting posit ions
a lso increase the risk of ser ious injury and dea th
when an airbag deploys and strikes an occupant
who is not in the proper seat ing position. A driver
is responsib le for the safety of all vehicle occu­
pants and especially for children. Therefore :
~ Never allow anyone to assume an incorrect
seating pos ition when the vehicle is being used

The fo llowing bulletins list only some sample po ­
sitions that will increase the risk of serio us inj ury
and death. Our hope is that these examp les will
make you more aware of seating posit ions that
are dangerous.

- never r ide with the seatback reclined

Important safety instructions
A WARNING
Always make sure that the knee airbag can in­
flate w ithout interference. Objects between
yourself and the airbag can inc rease the risk
of injury in an accident by interfering with the
way the ai rbag dep loys o r by being pushed in­
to you as the airbag dep loys.
- No persons (ch ild ren) or animals should ride
in the footwell in front of the passenger
seat . If the airbag deploys, this can res ult in
serio us or fat al injuries.
- No objects of any kind should be carried i n
the footwell area in front of the dr iver's or
passenger's seat. Bu lky objects (shopping
bags, for examp le) can hamper or prevent
proper dep loyment of the airbag . Sma ll ob­
jects can be thrown thro ugh the vehicle if
the airbag deploys and injure you or your passengers.

Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift s udden ly, changing vehicle handling charac­
ter istics . Loose items can also increase the risk of
serious personal in jury in a sudden vehicle ma­
neuver or in a coll is ion.

.,. Always place and properly secure heavy items in
the luggage compartment as low and as far for­
ward as possible

A WARNING
Improperly stored luggage or othe r items can
fly through the vehicle causing serious per­
sonal injury in the event of hard braking or an
accident . To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury :
- Always put objects, for example, luggage or
other heavy items in the luggage compart­
ment.
- Always sec ure objects in the luggage com­
partment using the tie-down eyelets and
s u itable straps.
A WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehi­
cle handles . To he lp reduce the r isk of a loss
of contro l leading to serious pe rsonal i njury:
- Always keep in mind when transporting heavy objects, that a change i n the center of
grav ity can also cause changes in vehicle
hand ling:
- Always distr ibute the load as even ly as
possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the
luggage compartment as poss ible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating
o r the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating specified
on the safety compliance sticker on the driv­
er's side B-pillar. Exceeding permiss ible
weight standards can cause the vehicle to
s lide and handle differently .

A WARNING
To he lp prevent po isonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, always keep the
rear lid closed while driving.
- Never transport objects larger than those
fitting completely into the luggage area be­
cause the rear lid cannot be fully closed .
- If you absolutely must dr ive with the rear lid
open, observe the following notes to reduce
the risk of poisoning :
- C lose all windows,
- Close the s unroof*,
- Open all a ir outlets in the instrument pan-
el,
- Switc h off the air reci rculat ion,
- Set the fresh air fan to the highest speed .
A WARNING
-
Always make sure that the doo rs, all win­
dows, the sunroof * an d the rear lid are se­
curely closed and locked to red uce the risk of
i n jury when the veh icle is not being used.
- After closing the rear lid, always make sure
that it is properly closed and locked .
- Never leave your ve hicle unattended espe ­
cially with the rear lid left open. A child
co uld crawl into the vehicle th rough the lug­
g age com partment an d close the rea r lid be­
comi ng tr apped and unab le to ge t out . Be­
ing trapped in a vehicle can lead to ser ious
pe rsonal i nju ry.
- Never let c hild ren p lay in or around the vehi­
cle.
- Never let passengers ride in the luggage
compa rtment. Vehicle occupants mus t al­
ways be p roperly restrained in one of the ve ­
hicle's seat ing pos itions.

- Air circul ation helps to reduce w indow fog­
ging . Stale ai r escapes to the o uts ide
t h roug h vents in the trim panel. Be sure to
keep these slots free and open.

load. The tire pressure label lists the recom­
mended cold tire inflation pressures for the
vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and
the tires that were on your vehicle at the
time it was manufactured. For recommend­

Tie-downs
The luggage compartment is equipped with four
tie-downs to secure luggage and other items .
Use the tie-downs to secure your cargo properly
c:> page 261, Loading the luggage compartment.
In a collision, the laws of physics mean that even
smaller items that are loose in the vehicle will

For example, in a frontal collision at a speed of
30 mph (48 km/h), the forces acting on a 10 -lb

weight of the item . This means that the weight
of the item would suddenly be about
200 lbs . (90 kg). You can imagine the injuries
that a 200 lbs. (90 kg) item flying free ly through
the passenger compartment could cause in a col ­
lision like this.

Weak, damaged or improper straps used to
secure items to tie-downs can fail during hard
braking or in a collision and cause serious per­
sonal injury.
- Always use suitable mounting straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help prevent
items from shifting or flying forward as dan­
gerous missiles .
- When the rear seat backrest is folded down,
always use suitable mounting straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in

If you believe that your vehicle
has a defect which could cause a
crash or could cause injury or
death, you should immediately in­
form the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) in
addition to notifying Audi of
America, Inc.
If NHTSA receives similar com­
plaints, it may open an investiga­
tion, and if it finds that a safety
defects exists in a group of
vehicles, it may order a recall and
remedy campaign. However,
NHTSA cannot become involved in
individual problems between you,
your dealer, or Audi of America,
Inc.
