- Under some conditions, certain mobile devi ­
ces and operat ing systems may a utomati­
cally switch from your vehicle's Wi-Fi hot ­
spot to the device's mobile data connection.
In that event, standard text and data usage
rates would apply while t he dev ice's mob ile
data connection is in use . P lease refer to
documentat ion p rovided by yo ur mobi le de ­
v ice 's man ufac tur e and yo ur d ata ca rr ie r for
d eta ils, re lated terms and privacy state ­
ment.
- You are responsible fo r all p re caut io ns tak­
en fo r data p rotection, an ti- v irus pro tec tion
and protection against loss of data on mo ­
bile devices that are used to access the In ­
ternet thro ugh the W i-F i hotspot.

- In vehicles without Audi connect ( Infotain ­
ment)*, the use of the Wi -Fi hotspot is only
possib le for the Wi-Fi audio p layer*. A data
connection to the Internet cannot be estab­
li shed.

Configuring the data
connection
Applies to vehicles with Audi connect (Infotainment)
The data connection for Audi connect Infotain­
ment servic es is pr e-configured at the factory.
However, if o configuration should be n ecessary,
you con adjust the following settings .
"Se lect: I M ENUI button> right control b utton>
Connection manager.
" Se lect : rig ht contro l button > Online settings >
Data connection settings .
Using the Data connection settings menu, you
can set when an Internet connection shou ld be
made. The Int ernet conn ection disconnects auto ­
mat ica lly once the requested Audi connect Info­
tainment service no longer requires any d ata.

Depending on the country and the vehicle equip ­
ment, the following functions may be available.

emergency call, you can call for he lp in
dangerous situat ions as quickly as possible. Use
this function when help is needed

W ith online roadside assistance, you can request
assistance if there is a breakdown or a minor acci­
dent

-The serv ices are provided through a SIM
card installed in the vehicle . The cost of the
call and data connections is included in the
price for the services. Services are provided
assuming that the cell phone network re­
quired for the installed SIM card is function­ ing and ready to operate . The available serv­
ices set by Audi AG are only available within
the cell phone network coverage area for
the cell phone service provider selected by
Audi AG .
- You can find what data will be transferred at www .audiusa .com.
- These services cannot be deactivated using
the settings in the Infotainment system .
Emergency call
Description
Applies to: vehicles with emergency call function
An emergency call is a combination of data trans­
mission and a phone call. The data transmission
from your vehicle forwards important informa­ tion, such as the vehicle and position data, to the
emergency call center .

Making an emergency call
Applies to: vehicles with emergency call function
The emergency call can be made two different
ways.

Requirement: the L ED @ must be green.
Manual emergency call
Requirement: the ignition must be switched on.
.,. Tap the cover(!) to open it.
.,. Press and hold the emergency call button until
the LED @blinks green. The emergency call is
made.
.,. If the emergency call button is pressed by mis­
take, then press it again immediately until the
LED stays green. The emergency call is can­
celed .
Automatic emergency call
The vehicle electrical system initiates an auto­
matic emergency call under certain circumstan ­
ces, for example if an airbag deploys. The LED in
the emergency call button @blinks green . The
emergency call is made . This cannot be canceled.
Note the following LED conditions :
-Green -the emergency call function is availa­
ble.
- Red -there is an e rror in the emergency call
function. Contact an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility. No emergency
call can be made.
- Off-the emergency call function is not availa-
ble, perhaps because no network is available. .,..

- Check for any connection requests on your
Bluetooth device.
- Multiple Bluetooth audio players can be
connected to the
MMI, but only one mobile
device can be active.
- Bluetooth protocols AVRCP (1.0/1.3/1.4)
and A2DP are supported.
- Note the volume setting on your Bluetooth
device. Audi recommends setting your mo­
bile device to the maximum volume when
using it as a Bluetooth audio player.
- The supported media functions (such as
shuffle) depend on the Bluetooth device be­
ing used.

Wi-Fi audio player
Appl ies to: ve hicles with Wi-F i audio playe r
Using the Wi -Fi audio player media source on the
MMI, you can connect and operate your Wi-Fi-ca­
pable media player (such as a smartphone) to
wirelessly play music from your media player
li­
brary. The media player is connected through the
vehicle's Wi-Fi hotspot. A UPnP Server opp or an
integrated UPnPIDLNA server on your media
player is required to access your media player
li­
brary.
Requirement: the Wi-Fi function on your media
player must be switched on. The
Audi MMI con­
nect
app or a UPnP server app must be installed
on your media player .
Or: you must be using a
media player with an integrated UPnP/DLNA
server.
- Connecting a media player: press the I MEDIA !
button. Press the left control button until the

The proper driver seating position is important
for safe, relaxed driving .

F or your own s afety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the driver 's seat to the following
position:
~ Adjust the dr iver's seat so tha t you can easily
push the pedals all the way to the f loor wh ile
keeping your knee(s) s light ly bent

~ Adjust the ang le of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position so that your back comes in
full contact w ith it when you drive.
~ Adjust the steering wheel so that there is a dis­
tance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between the
stee ring wheel and you r breast bone

even as possible w ith the top of your head . If
that is not possib le, t ry to adjust the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this posit ion as
possible .
~ Fasten and wear safety belts correctly

~ Always keep both feet in the footwell so that
you are in contro l of the ve hicle at a ll times.

A WARNING
-
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position or
too close to the airbag can be seriously in­
jured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help re­ d uce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always ad just the driver's seat and the
steer ing whee l so that there are at least
10 inc hes (25 cm) between you r breastbone
and the steering wheel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on the out­
side of the steering wheel r im with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o' clock posi­
tions to help reduce the risk of personal in­
ju ry if the driver's airbag inflates.
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the
12 o' clock position o r with you r hands at
o ther posi tions ins ide the s teer ing whee l
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Holding
the steering wheel the wrong way can cause
serio us injuries to the hands, arms and head
if the dr iver's airbag dep loys.
- Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the supplemen­ tal driver's airbag to protect you in a coll i­
sion.
- Always sit in an upright position and never
lean aga inst or place any part of your body
too close to the area where the airbags are located .

Driving safety
-Before driving, always adjust the front seats
and head restraints properly and make sure
that all passengers are properly restrained.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is
moving. Your seat may move unexpectedly
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or tilted far back! The farther the backrests are
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the safety belt and improper seating position .
- Children must always ride in child safety seats¢
page 291 . Special precautions ap­
ply when installing a child safety seat on the
front passenger seat

The proper front passenger seating position is
important for safe, relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the seat for the front passenger
to the following position:
.,. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position and your back comes in full
contact with it whenever the vehicle is moving .
... Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge is
as even as possible with the top of your head. If
that is not possible, try to adjust the head re­ straint so that it is as close to this position as
possible¢

tion or too close to the airbag can be seri­
ously injured by an airbag as it unfolds with
great force in the blink of an eye.
- Always make sure that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between the front pas­
senger's breastbone and the instrument
panel.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of
their own and properly fasten and wear the
safety belt belonging to that seat.
- Before driving, always adjust the front pas­
senger seat and head restraint properly.
- Always keep your feet on the floor in front
of the seat. Never rest them on the seat, in­
strument panel, out of the window, etc. The
airbag system and safety belt will not be
able to protect you properly and can even in­
crease the risk of injury in a crash.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests are
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the safety belt
and improper seating position.
- Children must always ride in child safety

rear seats
Rear seat passengers must sit upright with both
feet on the floor consistent with their physical
size and be properly restrained whenever the ve­
hicle is in use.
To reduce the risk of injury caused by an incorrect
seating position in the event of a sudden braking
maneuver or an accident, your passengers on the
rear bench seat must always observe the follow­
ing :

Drivin g saf ety
- Never attempt to adjust head restraint
wh ile driving. If you have dr iven off and
must adjust the driver headrest for any rea­
son, first stop the vehicle safely before at­
tempting to ad just the head restra int.
- Children must always be properly restrained
in a child restraint that is appropriate for
their age and size

Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only reduce
the risk of injury if vehicle occupants are properly
seated .
Improper seating positions can cause serious in­
jury or deat h. Safety belts can only work when
they are properly positioned on the body . Im­
proper seating positions reduce the effect iveness
of safety belts and w ill even increase the r isk of
i n ju ry and death by moving the safety be lt to crit­
ical a reas of t he body. Improper seat ing posit ions
a lso increase the risk of serious injury and dea th
when an airbag deploys and strikes an occupant
who is not in the proper seating position. A driver is responsib le for the safety of all vehicle occu­
pants and especially for children. Therefore :
~ Never allow anyone to assume an incorrect
seating position when the vehicle is being used

sitions that wi ll increase the risk of serio us inj ury
and death. Our hope is that these examples will
make you more aware of seating posit ions that
are dangerous.

Pedal area
Pedals
The pedals must always be free to move and
must never be interfered with by a floor mat or
any other object.
Make sure that all pedals move free ly without in­
terference and that nothing prevents them from retur ning to their or ig inal pos itions .
Only use floor mats that leave the pedal area free
and can be secured with floor mat fasteners.
If a bra ke circuit fails, increased brake pedal trav ­
e l is req uired to bring the vehicle to a fu ll stop.
.8, WARNING
Pedals that cannot move freely can cause loss
of vehicle contro l and increase the r isk of seri­
ous injury.
- Never p lace any objects in the driver's foot­
wel l. An object could get into the pedal area
and interfere with pedal funct ion. In case of
sudden braking or an acc ident, you would
no t be able to brake o r acce le rate!
- Always make sure that nothing can fall or
move into the driver's footwell.

ty restraint systems , the unr estrained occupant
will slam violently into the steering wheel, in ­
strument panel, windshield , or whatever else is
in the way
c:;, fig. 225 . This impact with the vehi­
cle interior has all the energy they had just be ­
fore the crash.
Never rely on airbags alone for protection. Even
when they deploy , airbags provide only additional
protection . Airbags are not supposed to deploy in
all kinds of accidents. Although your Audi is
equipped with airbags, all vehicle occupants, in­
cluding the driver, must wear safety belts cor­
rectly in order to minimize the risk of severe in­
jury or death in a crash.
Remember too, that airbags will deploy only
once and that your safety belts are always there
to offer protection in those accidents in which
airbags are not supposed to deploy or when they
have already deployed. Unbelted occupants can
also be thrown out of the vehicle where even more severe or fatal injuries can occur.
It is also important for the rear passengers to
wear safety belts correctly. Unbelted passengers in the rear seats endanger not only themselves
but also the driver and other passengers

thrown forward violently, where they can hit and injure the driver and/or front seat passenger .
Safety belts protect
People think it's possible to use the hands to
brace the body in a minor collision . It's simply
not true!

Safety belts
Safety belts used properly can make a big differ­
ence. Safety belts help to keep passengers in
their seats, gradually reduce energy levels ap­ plied to the body in an accident , and help prevent
the uncontrolled movement that can cause seri­ ous injuries. In addition, safety belts reduce the
danger of be ing thrown out of the vehicle .
Safety belts attach passengers to the car and give
them the benefit of being slowed down more gently or "softly" through the "give" in the safety
belts, crush zones and other safety features engi­
neered into today's vehicles . By "absorbing" the
kinetic energy over a longer period of time, the
safety belts make the forces on the body more
"tolerable" and less likely to cause injury .
Although these examples are based on a frontal collision, safety belts can also substantia lly re­
duce the risk of injury in other kinds of crashes.
So, whether you're on a long trip or just going to
the corner store, always buckle up and make sure
others do, too. Accident statistics show that vehi­
cle occupants properly wearing safety belts have
a lower risk of being injured and a much better
chance of surviving an accident. Properly using
safety belts also greatly increases the ability of
the supplemental a irbags to do their job in a col­
lision. For this reason, wearing a safety belt is le­
gally required in most countries including much
of the United States and Canada.
Although your Aud i is equipped with airbags, you
still have to wear the safety belts provided. Front
airbags, for example, are activated only in some
frontal collisions. The front airbags are not acti­
vated in all frontal collisions, in side and rear col­
lisions, in rollovers or in cases where there is not
enough deceleration through impact to the front
of the vehicle . The same goes for the other airbag
systems in your Audi. So, always wear your safety
belt and make sure everybody in your vehicle is
properly restrained!

ment, the three point safety belt strap routing
can be fitted to the shoulder area, according to
body size.

of the seat can also be used to adjust the po­
sition of the safety belts.
Improperly worn safety belts
Incorrectly positioned safety belts can cause se­
vere injuries.
Wearing safety be lts improperly can cause seri ­
ous injury or death. Safety belts can on ly work
when they are co rrectly positioned on the body .
Improper seating positions reduce the effective­
ness of safety belts and will even increase the

to critical areas of the body. Improper seating
pos itions also increase the risk of serious injury
and death when an airbag dep loys and strikes an
occupant who is not in the correct seating posi­
t ion. A driver is responsible for the safety of all
vehicle occupants and especially for ch ildren.
Therefore:
~ Never perm it anyone to assume an incorrect
sitting position in the vehicle while traveling

Belt tensioners
How safety belt pretensioners work
Rever sible safety belt pretensioners
The following functions are available when safety
belts w ith reversible safety belt tensioners are
fastened:
-Automatic tensioners: at the start of a drive,
the safety belts automatically adjust to the
passenger after a certain time period or veh icle
speed. To switch the automatic tensioners off,
select the following in the Infotainment sys­
tem:
! ME NUI button> Car > left control b utton
> Vehicle setting s> Seat s > Driver' s seat or
Pa ssenger' s seat > Automati c be lt ten sion er.

Seat belts w ith pyrotechn ic safety belt preten­
sioners are tensioned automatica lly in severe co l­
lisions , depending on the circumstances. This
he lps to reduce the forward motion of the occu­
pants.
A WARNING
- It is possible for the pretensioners to deploy
incorrectly .
- Any work on the tensioner system or remov­
al and installation of system components
for other repairs must be performed by a qualified workshop .
- The pyrotechnic system can only prov ide
protect ion for one collision. If the pyrotech­
nic pretensioners deploy, the pretens ion ing
system must be replaced.
(0 Tips
- A fine dust is released when the pyrotechnic
safety belt pretens ioners deploy. This is nor­
mal and is not caused by a fire in the vehi­
cle.
- The relevant safety requ irements must be
observed when the veh icle or components
of the system are sc rapped. A qualified
dealersh ip is famil iar with these regu lations
and will be p leased to pass on the informa­
tion to you.
Service and disposal of safety belt preten­
sioner
The safety belt pretens ioners are parts of the
safety belts on your Audi. Installing, removing,
servicing or repa iring of belt pretensioners can
damage the safety belt system and prevent it
from work ing cor rectly in a collision .
There are some important th ings you have to
know to make sure that the effect iveness of the
system w ill not be impaired and that discarded
components do not ca use inj ury or poll ute the
env ironment.

A WARNING -
Improper care, servicing and repair proce­
dures can increase the risk of personal injury
and death by preventing a safety belt preten­
sioner from activating when needed or act i­
vating it unexpected ly:
- The pyrotechnic safety be lt pretens ioners
can only be activated once. If pyrotechnic
safety belt p retensioners have been activat­
ed, the system must be replaced.
- Never repair, adjust, or change any parts of
the safety belt system .
- Safety belt systems including safety belt
pretensioners cannot be repai red. Spec ial
procedures are required fo r remova l, ins tal­
lation and disposal of this system .
- For any wo rk on the safety be lt system, we
s trong ly recommend that you see your au­
thorized Audi dealer or qualified technician
who has an Audi approved repair manua l,
tra ining and special equipment necessary.

Undeployed airbag modules and p retension­
ers might be classified as Perchlorate Materi­
a l -special handling may apply, see
www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/perchlo­
rate. When the vehicle or parts of the re­
straint system including airbag modu les safe­
ty belts with pretensioners are scrapped, all
applicable laws and regulations must be ob­
