Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise co ntrol
The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regulating vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system .
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac ­
celerate your vehicle. This he lps to make driv­
ing more comfortable on long highway
stretches.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers

Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un­
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.

The area that contains the radar sensor

sects, snow or i ce that will interfere with the
adaptive cruise control system and braking
guard. For information on cleaning, refer to
c:::> page 193. The same applies for any modifi­
cations made in the front area . T
he function of the adaptive cruise cont rol
system and braking guard is limited under
some condit ions:
- Objects can only be detected when they are
within sensor range
c:::>page 94, fig . 106.
-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short d istance ahead, off
to the side of your vehicle or moving into
your lane.
- Some kinds of vehicles are hard to detect;
for examp le motorcycles, vehicles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at all.
- When driving through curves

A WARNING
-
Always pay attention to traffic when adap-
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak­
ing guard is active. As the driver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main­
tain ing speed and distance to other ob­
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you.
The driver must always take action to avoid
a col lision. The driver is always responsible
for braking at the correct time.
- Im proper use of adaptive cruise con trol
can cause collisions, other accidents and
serio us personal injury.
- Never let the comfor t and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking
guard offer distract you from the need to
be alert to traffic conditions and the
need to remain in full control of your ve­
h icle at a ll times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cru ise contro l and brak ing guard have
lim its -they will not s low the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some ­
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled or disabled vehicle.
If registered by the radar sensor, vehicles
or obsta cles that are not moving can
trigger a co llision warning and if

confirmed by the video camera, an acute
collision warning.
- For safety reasons, do not use adaptive
cruise control when driving on roads with
many curves, when the road surface is in
poor condition and/or in bad weather
(such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and
hydroplan ing). Using the system under
these conditions cou ld result in a co lli­
sion.
- Switch adaptive cruise control off tempo­ rar ily when driving in turning lanes, on
expressway exits or in cons truction
zones. This prevents the vehicle from ac­ celerating to the set speed when in these
situations.
- The adaptive cr uise control system wi ll
not brake by itse lf if you p ut your foot on
the accelerator pedal. Doing so can over­
ride the speed and distance regulation .
- When approaching stationary objects
such as stopped traff ic, adaptive cruise
control will not respond and braking
guard w ill have limited function.
- The adaptive cruise control system and
braking guard do not react to people, an­
ima ls, objects crossing the road or on­
coming objects.
- The function of the radar sensor can be
affected by reflective objects such as
guard rails, the entrance to a tunnel,
heavy rain or ice.
- Never follow a ve hicle so closely that you
cannot stop your vehicle safely. The
adaptive cruise cont ro l cannot slow or
brake the veh icle safely when you follow
ano ther veh icle too closely. Always re­
member that the automatic braking
function cannot bring the vehicle to a sudden or emergency stop under these
condit ions.
- To prevent unintended operation, always
switch ACC off when it is not being used.

The sensor can be disp laced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, whee l housing and
underbody . That could affect the adaptive cruise control
system and braking g uard.

When driving into a curve ¢ fig. 104 and out
of a curve, the adaptive cru ise contro l may re­
act to a vehicle in the next lane and app ly the
brakes. You can override or prevent the brak­
ing by pressing the accelerator pedal briefly.

The adaptive cruise control system only reacts
to objects that a re mov ing or that the system
has a lready detected as moving . For examp le,
if a ve hicl e@ , which has already been detec t­
ed by the adaptive cru ise con trol , turns or
changes lanes and another stationa ry vehicle
@ is located in front of that vehicle, the sys­
tem will not react to the stationary vehicle.

Information stage
As long as you do not activate the turn signal,
side assist
informs you about vehicles that are
detected and classified as crit ical. The display
in the respective mirror turns on, but is d im.

The display remains dim intentionally in the
information stage so that your view toward
the front is not disturbed .
Warning stage
If you activate the turn signal, side assist
warns you about vehicles that are detected
and classified as critical. The display in the re ­
spective mirror blinks brightly . If this hap­
pens, check traff ic by glanc ing in the rearview
mirror and over your shoulder

Side assist functions at speeds above approxi­
mately 19 mph (30 km/h).
(D Vehicles that are approaching
I n certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itica l for a lane change even if it is still
somewhat far away . The faster a vehicle ap­
proaches, the sooner the display in the exteri ­
or mirror will turn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling with you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as critica l
for a lane change. All vehicles detected by
side assist are indicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you slowly pass a vehicle that side assist has
detected (the difference in speed between the
vehicle and your vehicle is less than 9 mph
(15 km/h), the disp lay in the exterior mirror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
The display will not turn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that side assist has detected (the dif­
ference in speed between the vehicle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph (15 km/h).
Functional limitations
The radar sensors are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes when the road
lanes are the normal width. In certain situa­
tions, the display in the exterior mirror may
turn on even though there is no vehicle locat­
ed in the area that is critical for a lane change.
For example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are driving
on the edge of your lane. If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another lane that is
not adjacent to your
current lane.
- if you are driving through a curve. Side assist
may react to a veh icle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane.
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard ra ils). -
In poor weather conditions . The side assist
functions are limited.
Do not cover the rada r senso rs~
fig. 117 with
stickers, deposits, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the function . For
information on cleaning, refer to~
page 193.
A WARNING
-
-Always pay attention to traffic and to the
area around your vehicle. Side assist can­
not replace a driver's attention. The driv­
er alone is always responsible for lane
changes and similar dr iving maneuvers .
- Improper reliance on the side assist sys­
tem can cause coll is ions and serious per­
sonal injury:
- Never rely on ly on side assist when
changing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
s ur e that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect all vehicles un­
de r all conditions- danger of accident!
- Please note that side assist indicates
there are approaching vehicles, or
vehicles in your blind spot, only after
your vehicle has reached a driving speed
of at least 19 mph (30 km/h).
- In certain sit uations, the system may not
function or its function may be limited.
For example:
- if vehicles are approach ing or being left
behind very quickly. The disp lay may
not turn on in time.
- in poor weather conditions such as
heavy rain, snow or heavy mist.
- on very wide lanes, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road surface.
Vehicles in the adjacent lane may not
be detected because they are outside
of the sensor range .
([) Note
The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and

Driving settings
Introduction
App lies to vehicles: w it h Au di dr ive select
Drive select provides the possibility to experi­
ence diffe rent types of vehicle settings in one
vehicle. For instance, us ing the three
Com­
fort, Auto
and Dynamic modes, the driver can
switch from a sporty to a comfortab le driving
mode with the press of a button.
Addit ionally, in vehicles with MM I*, the vehi­
cle setup for
Individual* mode can be cus­
tomized by you. This makes it possib le to
combine settings such as a sporty engine tun ­
ing with comfortable steering.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other acc idents and seri­
ous personal injury.
Description
App lies to vehicles: with Audi drive select
The vehicle setup in each mode depends on
the veh icle's features . However, the engine,
automatic transmission and steering are a l­
ways involved.
-
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
automatic transmission respond quicker or in
a more ba lanced manner to acce lerator pedal
movements. In the sporty dynamic mode, the
automatic transmission shifts at higher RPMs .
The engine sound is adjusted by opening or
closing the exhaust doors for the respective
mode.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steer ing ratios. Indirect steer ing that
moves easi ly, like the steering in comfort
mode, is best suited to long dr ives on a high ­
way. In contrast, dynamic mode provides
sporty, direct steering. The
following applies to vehicles with dynamic
steering*: the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to ma inta in optimum
steering effort for the driver at all times. This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle
control. At reduced speeds, however, steering
is more d irect in order to keep the steering ef­
fort as minimal as poss ible when the driver is
maneuvering the veh icle. At low and average
speeds, dynamic steering additionally pro­
vides more responsive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all wheel dr ive system
(quattro ®)
~ page 181, the sport different ial*
distributes the driving power to the rear axle
depending on the situation . The distribution
of power varies depending on the mode se­
l ected. The goal is a high level of agility and
ability to accelerate on curves. The vehicle is
very responsive to steering.
Audi adaptive cruise control*
The behavior when accelerating can be adjust­
ed from comfortab le to sporty, depending on
the drive select mode . Adaptive cruise control
also responds to the driving behavior of the
vehicle ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner .
(D Tips
- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the
Auto
and Dynamic modes.
- Selecting the
Dynamic mode resu lts in
sporty shifting characteristics. The S
gear position engages automatically.
- In vehicles that have dynamic steering*,
operating noise is heard when start ing or
stopping the engine. This does not indi­
cate a problem.

as well .

-The parking aid cannot replace the driv­
er's attention . The driver alone is respon­
sible for parking and similar driving ma­ neuvers.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
surroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not allow yourself to be distracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation angle
of the camera has changed, for example,
after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qualified dealership.

- Low obstacles already signaled by a
warning can disappear from the system's
detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled. Ob­
jects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, thin painted vertical poles or fen­
ces may not be detected by the system, posing risk of damage.
- Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the rear view camera
lens -danger of crack formation on the
lens!
- When cleaning the lens, never use prod­
ucts that are abrasive.
Switching on/off
Applies to vehicles: with par king system (rear, with rear
view camera)
The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic park assist
when you put the vehicle in reverse.
Switching on
.,. Put the vehicle in reverse gear, the acoustic
parking system with rear view camera is ac­
tivated automatically . Activation of the
acoustic parking system is confirmed by a
brief acknowledgement sound.
Switching off
.,. Drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) , or
.,. take the vehicle out of reverse gear. The
acoustic parking system is immediately de­
activated , and the rear view camera picture
is deactivated autom atically after a period
of about 15 seconds, or
.,. switch off the ignition.
The delay in deactivating the camera provides an uninterrupted view behind the vehicle es­
pecially when maneuvering in tight parking
spaces and prevents the picture from turning off the every time you shift out of reverse .
If the warning message appears in the display
but not the rear view camera picture, read and
confirm the warning message . The acoustic
distance signal is always active.
If you press a function button on the MMI
control console, the rear view camera picture
disappears. The rear view camera picture reap ­
pears the next time you park .
Further information on the warning message
and the MMI control console can be found in
the MM I instruction booklet .
(D Tips
-The rear view camera picture is available
as soon as the MMI Display or the MMI is
switched on, or the start -up phase is
completed .
- Keep the sensors in the rear bumper and
the rear view camera lens clean and free
of snow and ice, so that the parking sys­
tem can work properly. Please follow the
additional notes on
~page 113.

Reverse Parking
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear
view camera)
Parking mode 1 can be used when parking in
a garage or parking space.

Parallel Parking

Use parking mode 2 to help you park on the
edge of a street.

The following steps apply only when there is
no obstacle (such as a wall) near the parking
spot. Otherwise, please read the "Tips on
Parking Next to Obstacles".
.. Activate the turn signal.
.. Switch the MMI on and se lect the reverse
gear. The parking aid turns on and parking
mode 1 appears on the display.
.. Position your vehicle parallel to the edge of
the street, approximately 3 ft (1 m) from a
parked vehicle .

.. Back up in reverse gear and align your vehi­
cle so that the blue area

rear end of the vehicle or on the parking

should be on the curb. The en­
tire blue area must fit into the parking spot.

steering wheel to the right as far as it will
go.

more space on the sides. Position the long

space from the curb . The area must not be on
the curb . You will a lso need to start turning
the steer ing wheel much ea rlier . There should
be a sufficient amount of space between the
curb and the blue curve, and t he blue curve

Safe driving habits
Please remember -safety first!
This chapter contains important information,
tips, instructions and warnings that you need
to read and observe for your own safety, the
safety of your passengers and others . We have
summarized here what you need to know
about safety belts, airbags, child restraints as
well as child safety. Your safety is for us
priori­
ty number 1.
Always observe the information
and warnings in this section -for your own
safety as well as that of your passengers.
The information in this section applies to all
model versions of your vehicle . Some of the
features described in this sections may be
standard equipment on some models, or may
be optional equipment on others. If you are
not sure, ask your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structions and heed the WARNINGS in
this Manual. It is in your interest and in
the interest of your passengers.
- Always keep the complete Owner's Liter­
ature in your Audi when you lend or sell
your vehicle so that this important infor­
mation will always be available to the
driver and passengers.
- Always keep the Owner's literature handy
so that you can find it easily if you have
questions.
Safety equipment
The safety features are part of the occupant
restraint system and work together to help
reduce the risk of injury in a wide variety of
accident situations.
Your safety and the safety of your passengers
should not be left to chance. Advances in
technology have made a variety of features
available to help reduce the risk of injury in an accident.
The following is a list of just a few of
the safety features in your Audi:
- sophisticated safety belts for driver and all
passenger seating positions,
- belt force limiters for the front seats,
- belt pretensioners for the seats,
- head restraints for each seating position,
- front airbags,
- side airbags in the front seats,
- special LATCH anchorages for child re-
straints,
- adjustable steering column.
These individual safety features, can work to­
gether as a system to help protect you and
your passengers in a wide range of accidents.
These features cannot work as a system if
they are not always correctly adjusted and cor­
rectly used.
Safety is everybody's responsibility!
Important things to do before driving
Sofety is everybody's job! Vehide ond occu­
pant safety always depends on the informed
and careful driver.
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before driving always:
" Make sure that all lights and signals are op ­
erating correctly .
"Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
"Make sure that all windows are clean and af­
ford good visibility to the outside.
"Secure all luggage and other items carefully

"Make sure that nothing can interfere with
the pedals.
"Adjust front seat, head restraint and mirrors
correctly for your height .
" Instruct passengers to adjust the head re­
straints according to their height .
