Incorrect wheel alignment
Incorrect wheel alignment can
cause excessive tire wear, im­
pairing the safety of the vehi­
cle. If tires show excessive
wear, have the wheel alignment checked by an authorized Audi
dealer or qualified workshop.
All wheel drive
Vehicles with quattro must al­
ways have tires of the same
size, construction and tread
type. For details see
¢page 176.
A WARNING
Sudden tire failure can lead
to loss of control, a crash and serious personal injury!
-Never drive a vehicle when the tread on any tire is worn down to the wear indica­
tors.
-Worn tires are a safety haz­
ard, they do not grip well on
wet roads and increase your risk of "hydroplaning" and
loss of control.

-Always keep chemicals that can cause tire damage, such
as grease, oil, gasoline and
brake fluid away from tires.
-Tires age even if they are not being used and can fail
suddenly, especially at high speeds. Tires that are more
than 6 years old can only be used in an emergency and
then with special care and
at lower speeds.
-Never mount used tires on your vehicle if you are not sure of their "previous histo­
ry." Old used tires may have
been damaged even though
the damage cannot be seen
that can lead to sudden tire
failure and loss of vehicle
control.

be fitted over the whee l bolts. These are
avai lab le from authorized Audi dealers.
A WARNING
Using the wrong snow chains for your vehi­
cle or installing them incorrectly can in­
crease the risk of loss of control leading to
serious personal injury .
- Snow chains are available in different
sizes. Always make sure to follow the in­
struct ions provided by the snow chain
manufacturer .
- When driving with snow chains never
dr ive faster than the speed permitted for
your specific snow cha ins.
- Always observe local regulat ions .
- Remove snow cha ins before driving on
roads not covered with snow to avoid
damaging t ires and wear ing the snow
chains down unnecessar ily .
- Snow chains, wh ic h come into d irect con­
tact with the wheel rim, can scratch or
damage it . Therefore, make sure that the
snow chains are suitab ly covered . Check
the position of the snow chains after
driv ing a few yards and correct if neces­
sary. Follow the i nstr uctions from the
snow chain manufacturer when doing so.
(D Tips
Where s now cha ins a re mandatory oncer­
tain roads, this norma lly also applies to
vehicles with all wheel drive .
Wheel bolts
Wheel bolts must always be tightened to the
corr ect torque.
The design of whee l bolts is ma tched to the
factory insta lled r ims. If d ifferent rims are fit­
ted, the correct wheel bo lts with the r ight
l ength and correctly shaped bolt heads must
be used . This ensures that wheels are fitted
secu re ly and that the b rake system functions
correctly . In certain circumstances, you may not use
whee l bolts from a different vehicle -even if it
is the same mode l¢
page 266 .
A WARNING "--
Improperly t ightened or ma inta ined whee l
bo lts can become loose causing loss of
control, a col lision and serious pe rsonal i n­
jury .
- Always keep the wheel bo lts and the
threads in the wheel hubs clean so the
wheel bo lts can turn easily and be prop­
erly tightened.
- Never g rease or oil the wheel bolts and
the threads in the wheel hubs. They can become loose while driv ing if g reased o r
oiled, even if t igh tened to the specified
torque.
- On ly use wheel bolts that belong to the
rim being installed .
- Never use different wheels bolts on yo ur
veh icle.
- Always maintain the correct t ightening
torque for the wheel bolts to reduce the
risk of a wheel loss. If the tighten ing tor­
que of the whee l bolts is too low, they
can loosen and come out when the vehi­
cle is moving. If the tightening torq ue is
too high, the wheel bolts and threads
can be damaged and the whee l can be­
come loose.
Q) Note
The specified torque for the whee l bolts is
90 ft lbs . (120 Nm) with a tolerance of
± 7,4 ft lbs. (± 10 Nm). Torque wheel bolts
diagonally . After changing a wheel, the
torque must be checked as soon as possi ­
ble with a to rque wrenc h - preferably by an
autho rized Audi dea le r or qualified wor k­
shop .
Low aspect ratio tires
Your Audi is factory -equipped with low aspect
ratio tires. These tires have been thoroughly
tested and been se lected specifically for your
model for their superb performance, road fee l ..,.

24 4 What do I do no w?
• Screw the accompanying filling hose com ­
pletely onto the bottle. This breaks through
the fo il seal automat ica lly at the connec­
t ion.
• Remove the valve cap from the tire valve and
unscrew the valve insert us ing the accompa ­
nying valve insert tool
q fig . 190 .
• Lay the valve insert on a clean surface .
• Remove the sealing p lug from the filling
hose and connect the hose to the t ire va lve.
• Hold the bottle with the bottom fac ing up­
ward and empty the entire contents into the
tire.
• Then pu ll out the hose and screw the valve
insert tightly back into the tire valve.
Inflating a ti re
• Screw the fi lling hose for the electric air
pump onto the tire valve and insert the con ­
nector into the cigarette lighter .
• Inf late the tire between 2.0 and 2.S bar and
read the pressure from the gauge.
• If this tire pressure is not reached, drive
your vehicle approximately 10 meters for ­
ward or backward so that the sealant can be redistr ibuted i nside the tire.
If at th is time
the required air pressure still cannot be reached, the t ire is too bad ly damaged and
cannot be repaired with the tire sea lant.
Final check
• After dr iving for about 10 minutes, stop and
check the t ire pressure .
• If tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar, the ti re
is too seve rely damaged. Do not cont in u e to
drive . Seek pro fessional assistance.
8_ WARNING
- Turn on the eme rgency flashers and set
up the emergency triangle if you have
flat tire while in moving traff ic. This is
for your protection and the for the safety
of other d rivers .
- Have all passengers leave the vehicle and
stay away from the danger zone (fo r ex­
ample, beh ind a guard rail). -
Read and follow the manufacturer's safe­
ty precautions on the compressor and in
the instructions on the bottle of sealant!
- If a tire pressure of 2.0 bar cannot
reached after inflating for six minutes,
then the t ire is too severely damaged. Do
not continue driving!
- Obta in qualified help if it is not possible
to perform the repair with the tire seal­
ant.
- If the tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar
after 10 m inutes of driv ing, then the the
tire is too seve rely damaged . Do not con­
tinue dr iving. Seek profess iona l assis­
tance.
Q) Note
Particular care is necessary if you are mak­
i ng a tire repa ir on a steep incl ine .
@ Tips
-Do not operate the electric air pump for
more than 6 minutes without stopping,
otherwise it can overheat . When the a ir
pump has cooled down, you can continue
t o u se i t.
- If sealant has spilled out, let it dry and
then you can remove it by peeling it away
like a foil.
- Rememb er to obtain a new bott le of
sealant from yo ur autho rized Aud i deale r
after repairing a tire. After this, the func­
tionality of the tire repair set is resto red.
- Obey all laws.

fall from a lift if there is a change in ve­
hicle weight distribution and balance.
This might happen, for example, when
heavy components such as the engine
block or transmission are removed .
- When removing heavy components like
these, anchor vehicle to hoist or add cor­
responding weights to maintain the cen­
ter of gravity. Otherwise, the vehicle
might tilt or slip off the hoist, causing
serious personal injury.
(D Note
- Be aware of the following points before
lifting the vehicle:
-The vehicle should never be lifted or
jacked up from underneath the engine
oil pan, the transmission housing, the
front or rear axle or the body side
members. This could lead to serious
damage.
- To avoid damage to the underbody or
chassis frame, a rubber pad must be
inserted between the floor jack and
the lift points.
- Before driving over a workshop hoist,
check that the vehicle weight does not
exceed the permissible lifting capacity
of the hoist.
- Before driving over a workshop hoist,
ensure that there is sufficient clear­
ance between the hoist and low parts
of the vehicle.

Safety compliance sticker
The safety compliance sticker is your assur­
ance that your new vehicle complies with all
applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards which were in effect at the time the
vehicle was manufactured . You can find this
sticker on the door jamb on the driver's side.
It shows the month and year of production
and the vehicle identification number of your
vehicle (perforation) as well as the Gross Vehi­
cle Weight Rating (GVWR) and the Gross Ax le
Weight Rating (GAWR) .
High voltage warning label
The high voltage warning label is located in
the engine compartment next to the engine hood release. The spark ign ition system com­
plies with the Canadian standard ICES-002 .
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for
front and rear are listed on a sticker on the
door jamb on the driver's s ide .
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating includes the
weight of the basic vehicle plus full fuel tank,
oil and coo lan t, plus maximum load , which in­
cludes passenger we ight (150 lbs/68 kg per
designated seating position) and luggage

Operating your vehicle
outside the U.S.A. or
Canada
Government regu lations in the United States
and Canada require that automobiles meet
specific emission regulations and safety
standards. Therefore, veh icles built for the
U.S.A . and Canada differ from vehicles sold in
other countries .
If you p lan to take your vehicle outside the
continental limits of the United States or Can­
ada, there is the possibility that:
- unleaded fuels for vehicles with cata lytic
converter may not be available;
- fuel may have a considerably lowe r octane
rating. Improper fuel may cause engine
damage ;
- service may be inadequate due to lack of
proper service facilities, tools or testing
equipment ;
- replacement pa rts may not be readily availa­
ble.
- Navigation systems for vehicles built for the
U.S.A. and Canada will not necessar ily work
in Europe, and may not work in other coun­
tries outside of North America.

Maintenance
General
Your vehicle has been designed to help keep
maintenance requirements to a minimum.
However, a certain amount of regular mainte­
nance is still necessary to assure your vehicle's
s afety, economy and rel iability. For detailed
vehicle maintenance consult your Warranty &
Maintenance booklet.
Under difficult operating conditions, for ex­
ample at extremely low outside temperatures,
i n very dusty regions , when towing a trailer
very frequently, etc., some service work
should be performed between the intervals
specified. This applies particularly to:
- oil changes, and
- cleaning or replacing the air filter .

lector lever (automatic transmiss ion) is
in "P" (Park position) and the park brake
is f irmly app lied .

-Changing the engine settings wi ll ad­

rimental to the environment and increas­
es fuel consumption .
- Always observe env ironmental regula­
tions when dispos ing of old engine oil,
used brake fluid, dirty engine coolant,
spent batteries or worn out tires.
- Undeployed airbag modules and preten­
s ioners might be classified as Perchlo ­
rate Material -spec ial handling may ap­
ply, see www.dtsc.ca .gov/hazardous­
waste/perch lorate . When the veh icle or
parts of the restraint system including
airbag modules safety belts wit h preten ­
sioners are scrapped, all applicable laws
and regulations must be observed. Your
authori zed Aud i dea ler is familiar with
these requirements and we recommend
that you have your dealer perform this
serv ice for you .

Your veh icle incorporates the latest safety de­
sig n featu res ensu ring a high standard of ac­
tive and passive safety .
This safety could be compromised by non-ap­ proved changes to the veh icle. For this reason ,
