gency, for example, in place of the ign ition key

Number of keys
You can check the number of assigned keys to
you r vehicle <=>
page 11. This allows you to
make sure you have re ceived all of the keys
when you purchase a used vehicle.
Data in th e mast er ke y
During driving, service and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas­
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you abo ut the work yo ur ve­
hicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with
convenience key*.
Person al comf ort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own'' master key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, pe rsonal
convenience settings for the following sys ­
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate control
- Powe r locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Side assist*
- Drive select*
T he sto red settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignition .
A WARNING
--
-Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock . Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in t he
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle

keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or act ivate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power w indows etc . Un­
supervised operation of any veh icle sys­
tem by ch ildren can res ult in serious in­
Jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock un til the vehicl e has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
um n lo ck could sud denly e ngage -caus ­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- The operation of the remote cont ro l key
c a n be tempo rarily disru pted by in terfer­
ence from tran smi tters in t he v ici nity of
t h e veh icle work ing in the same frequen ­
cy ra nge (e.g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).
- Fo r security reasons, replacement keys
a re on ly availab le from author ized Audi

The check light@¢ fig. 20 in the mas ter key
provides information abo ut different condi ­
t ions .
" The check light turns on b riefly once when a
bu tton is pressed , and during an " inquiry "
by the convenience key system .
" If the check light does not come on, the bat­
t ery is dead a nd has to be replaced. In addi­
t ion, when the batte ry is dead the

- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switc h illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
i nside by pul ling on the door hand le .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat ­
ed , the doors automatically un lock .
_& WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behind in the veh icle, especially
children .
@ Tips
Your vehicle is locked automatically at a

you pull w ill unlock . If you press the @! but­

You can activate various systems such as ga ­
rage doors, sec urity systems and home light­
ing from inside yo ur vehicle using the ga rage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand -he ld
transmitters.
To operate systems using the garage door
opener , the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
immediate vicinity of the equipment when
using or programm ing the garage doo r
opene r. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are caught in the
equipment .
@ Tips
-Fo r security reasons, we recommend that
you clear the programmed buttons be­
fore se lling the vehicle. -

Conv ertible top not secure
This message appears and a warn ing tone
sounds if the power top is no t comp letely
closed/open and the veh icle speed is above
50 km/h . Reduce the vehicle speed and try
closing/opening the power top again.
.&_ WARNING
Never drive when the power top is not
locked correctly . The w ind from dr iv ing
could cause the power top to open. T his
can result in injuries a nd damage to the
veh icle.
Wind deflector
Applies to vehicles: with wind deflecto r
The wind deflector reduces turbulence in the
passenger compartment and makes driving more comfortable.

Inserting and positioning the wind
defl ector
" Open the rea r door on the passenger's side.
" Remove the wind def lector from the lug-
gage compartment and fold it apart once.
The wind def lector is installed in the correct
position when the long side is toward the
front and the wind deflector frame is at the
top.

ter of the wind deflector up slight ly @

- Pay attention to traffic when instal ling

f lector from the s ide of the vehicle that
is farthest from traffic.

Do not lean aga inst the vehicle when in­
stalling the wind deflector . Hard objects
and decorat io ns on clothing such as be lt
buckles can scratch the pa int.

vehicle on both sides of the power top.
• To loosen the headliner, raise the rear of the
power and pull on the yellow loop

headliner around the rear window (approxi­
mately 30 cm)

- Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and g lasses can ca use in jury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray -risk of fire.

On ly drink containers with lids should be
carried in the cupho lder. Liqu id could sp ill
out and damage your vehicle's e lectronic
equipment or stain the upholstery, etc.
Glove compartment
The glove comportment is illuminated and
can be locked .

a holder wi th the key body into which the
emergency key must be cl ipped to be able to
start the vehicle .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of persona l injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed wh ile driving.

hardware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and

crash. Inspect the belts periodically .

Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, buckles, or retractors must be re­
placed.
(D Note
Slide the belt guide on the outside safety
be lt all the way up before fo lding the back­
rest back forward. Make sure the seat belt
is not pinched or damaged when the rear
seat backrest if folded back. Other objects
should be removed from the rear seat
bench to protect the seatback from dam­
age.
Tie-downs
The luggage compartment is equipped with
four tie-down rings to secure luggage and
other items.

transportation of skis and other light ob­

cause injury to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protection. Always fasten the belt ..,_

neuvers and cause injuries.

- Never stow the sk i sack away when it is
still wet or damp (for example, snow melt ing from sk is) . Allow it to dry com­
plete ly before stowing it away.
- When transporting skis or snowboards,
tighte n the securing strap between the
bindings .
- Position skis in the ski sack w ith the
po inted ends fac ing t he front and ski
po les w ith the pointed ends facing th e
rear.

This message appears if the master key is re­
moved from the vehicle with the engine run ­
n ing.
If the master key is no longer in the ve ­
h icle, you cannot switch on the ignition after
stopping the engine and you also cannot start
the eng ine again . Moreover, you can not lock
the veh icle from the outside w ith the key.
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away .
Doors do not lock if lever is not in
P.
This message appears for safety reasons
a long w ith a warning signa l. It appears if the
selector lever for the automat ic transm iss ion
is not in the P position when sw itch ing off the
ignition . Move the selector lever to the P pos i­
tion, othe rwise the ve hicle is not secured
against rolling away . You also cannot lock the
vehi cle using the locking bu tton* on the door
han dle or using the remote key.
Convenience key defective! Use ignition lock
This message appears if the eng ine must be
started or stopped using the ignition key and
not the
I STAR T ENGIN E ST OP ! button .
Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

With the ignition switched on, step on the
brake peda l or the accelerator pedal and
press the switch @ at the same time to re ­
lease the parking brake . The indicator lights
in the switch and. (USA mode ls)/ . (Can­
ada models) in the instrument cluster go
out.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome­ chanical parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the veh icle from rolling
u nintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
In add ition to the normal functions of a tradi­
t ional hand brake, the electromechanical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safe ty funct ions .
When starting from rest
-The integral start ing ass ist helps you when
driving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake
c> page 79, Starting from rest .
- When start ing o n inclines, the starting as­
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional­
ly rolling back. The braking force of the
pa rking brake is not released until suffic ient
driving force has been bui lt up at the
wheels.
Emergency brake function
An emergency brake ensures that the veh icle
can be slowed down even i f the normal brakes
fail ¢ page 79, Emergency braking.
A WARNING
If a drive rang e is engaged with the vehicle
stationary and the engine running, yo u
must in no instance accelerate carelessly.
Otherwise the vehi cle wi ll start to move
immediately -risk of an accident.
(0 Tips
-If the parking brake is applied with the
ign ition switched off, the ind icator lights
in the switch and - (USA models) .
(Canada mode ls) in the instrument clus­
ter will go out after a certain period of
time.
