A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS:
- Always wear eye protection. Do not let
battery acid or any lead part icles get on
your sk in or cloth ing . Sh ield your eyes .
Explosive gases can cause blindness or
other injury.
- Battery acid contai ns sulfur ic acid. Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blindness and severe
burns.
- Always wear gloves and eye protection.
Do not tilt the battery because ac id
could leak out of the vent ilation open­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in your eyes or
on your sk in, immediately rinse with
cold water for severa l m inutes and get
medical attention .
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek medical attention immediately .
- Do not expose the battery to an open
flame, electric sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cab les.
- When working on the battery, be sure
not to short-circuit the terminals with
tools or other metal objects. This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
wh ich could lead to damage or explosion
and personal injury. -
When a battery is charged, it produces
hydrogen gas which is explosive and
could cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negat ive ground ca­
ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec­
trica l system, switch off the engine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
must be disconnected .
If you are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
e nough to swi tc h off the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch
off the anti-theft alarm system! Other­
wise you wi ll set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, f irst
d isconnect the negat ive cab le and then
the posit ive c ab le.
- Before reconnecting the batte ry, ma ke
sure all e lectr ica l consumers are sw itch­
ed off . Re connect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable. Never inter ­
change the cables - this could start a fire!
- Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out
battery. It could exp lode! If a battery has
frozen, then it must be replaced . A dis­
charged battery can freeze over at 32
°F
(0 oc).
- Make sure the vent hose is always attach­
ed to the opening on the s ide of the bat­
tery.
- Never use batteries which are damaged.
There is the danger of an explosion! Al­
ways rep lace a damaged battery.
A WARNING

- Battery posts, terminals and related ac­
cessories conta in lead and lead com­
pounds, chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer and reproduc­
tive problems . Wash hands after han-

generated by the battery is exp losive.
- To reduce the danger of explosion, never
connect or disconnect charger cables
wh ile the charger is operating .
- Fast charg ing a battery is dangerous and
should only be attempted by a compe­
tent technician w ith the proper equip ­
ment .
- Battery acid that may spill d uring charg­
ing should be washed off w it h a solution
of warm water and ba kin g soda to neu­
t rali ze the acid.
~ Note
Never use a fast charger as a booster to
start the engine. This will seriously dam ­
age sensitive ele ct ronic components, such
as co ntrol units, relays, rad io, etc. , a s we ll
as th e batte ry charge r.
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifi­
cations and dimensions as the original equip­
ment battery.

ment system w ill keep the engine batte ry
charged better than vehicles w it h out t his sys­
tem . T o make sure the additional e lectrical en ­
ergy is available once again after you have
changed t he battery, we recommend that you
install batteries of the same type and manu ­
facture only (the same as those ins talled at
the t ime your vehicle was delivered). Specifi­
cations a re listed o n the battery hous ing. You r
author ized de aler m ust code the b attery in
the ene rgy management system to enable yo u
to use the energy managemen t fu nctions co r­
rectly after replac ing the battery. T
he new battery must have the same capacity,
vo ltage ( 12-volts) , amperage , construction
and plug sea ling .

the tempe rature of the tire . Every 50 °F
(10 °C) increase in tire temperature results in
the tire pressure increasing by approximately
0 .1 bar. The tire pressure increases as the en­
g ine becomes warmer while drivi ng .

If the tire pressure monitoring system is not
available, the
Ill ind icator light appears in
the dr iver information system. The
RIJ ind ica­
tor light also blinks for approximate ly one mi­
nutes each time the ignit ion is switched on.
The tire pressure monitoring system cannot be selected in the Infotainment system. The
malfunction could be caused by the following
examples:
- If the message appears at the end of the
adaptation phase, the system cannot detect
the wheels installed on the vehicle. This may
result from one or more wheels being instal­
led without wheel sensors or with incompat­
ible wheel sensors .
- A wheel sensor or another component has
failed .
- Using snow chains can affect the function of
the system because of the shielding effect
of the chains.
- The tire pressure monitoring system is not
available due to a malfunction.
- Transmitters with the same frequency, such
as headphones or remote-controlled devi ­
ces, may cause a temporary system mal­
function due to the strong electromagnetic
field .
The
Ill indicator light turns off once the tire
pressure monitoring system is available again.
I f you cannot correct the malfunction and the
Ill indicator light stays on, drive to an author­
ized Audi dealer or a qualified workshop to
have the malfunct ion corrected.

plug out of the socket.
• Drive the vehicle slow ly 33 feet (10 meters)
backward or forward. This helps to distrib­
ute the sealant better.
• Remove the empty inflation bottle and
screw the hose®~

Disassembling Tire Mobility System
• Remove the hose from the valve and pull the
plug out of the socket.
• Screw the dust cap onto the valve .
• Place the empty sealant bottle back in the
original packaging and clip it in place under
the floor so that no tire sealant can run out
into the vehicle.
• Place the electric air pump in the luggage
compartment for the time being.

• Start driving right away so that the sealant
is distributed in the tire .

- Follow the manufacturer 's safety instruc-
tions on the decal for the air pump and
the sealant bottle.
- If a tire pressure of 1.8 bar cannot be
achieved after pumping for 5 minutes,
the t ire is too severely damaged. Do not
continue to dr ive .
- Seek professional ass istance if it is not
possible to repa ir the tire w ith the tir e
sealant.
(D Tips
- Do not operate the electric air pump for
more than 6 minutes without stopping,
otherwise it can overheat . When the air
pump has cooled down, you can continue
to use it.
- If sealant has escaped, allow it to dry,
then you can pee l it off.
Final check
After driving for a short distance, tire pressure must be checked
• After driving for about 10 min utes, stop and
check the tire pressure.
• If tire pressure is sti ll at least 1.3 bar, in­
flate the tire to specif ied pressure (see driv­
er's side B-pillar), drive to the next repair
shop and have the tire and the sealant bot­
tle replaced .
• If tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar, the tire
is too severely damaged . Do not continue to
drive. Seek professional assistance.

If tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar after
driving for 10 minutes, the tire is too se­
verely damaged. Do not continue to drive.

Changing a wheel
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your
own and your passenger's safety when chang­
ing a wheel .
.. After you experience a tire failure, pull the
car well away from moving traffic and try to
reach

move to a safe location (for instance, behind
the guardrail)

A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured
while changing a wheel if you do not fol­
low these safety precautions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe dis­
tance off the road. Turn off the engine,
turn the emergency flashers on and use
other warning devices to alert other mo­
torists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well
away from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipping off the
jack, always fully set the parking brake
and block the wheel diagonally opposite
the wheel being changed . When one
front wheel is lifted off the ground, plac­ ing the Automatic Transmission in P
(Park) will
not prevent the vehicle from
moving.
What do I do now? 263
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary,
use a sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­
partment

If you are changing the wheel on a steep
incline, use a rock or similar object to
block the opposite wheel to prevent the
vehicle from moving .
(l) Tips
- Before changing the wheel, you must ac­
tivate the jacking mode, so that the au­
tomatic controls for the Adaptive Air
Suspension* do not make it more diffi­
cult to lift the vehicle with the jack
c:>page265 .

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel , follow these­
quence described below step -by -step and in
exactly that order.
l. Activate the vehicle jack mode"

2. Remove the wheel bolt caps* . For more
details see also

3. Loosen the wheel bolts c:>page 264.
4. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and align the jack below that point

6. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and

7. Tighten all wheel bolts lightly .

General
This chapter i s intended for trained emer­
gency crews and working personnel who have the necessary tools and equipment to
perform these operations.
Starting by pushing or
towing

Starting with jumper
cables
If necessary, the engine can be started by
connecting it to the battery of another vehi­
cle.
If the engine shou ld fail to start because of a
discha rged o r wea k battery, the battery can be
connected to the battery o f
another vehicle,
using a
pair of jumper cables to start the en­
g ine.
Jumper cables
Use only jumper cables of sufficiently la rge
c ross section to carry the starter c urrent safe­
l y. Refer to the man ufacturer's specifications.

thaw the fr ozen battery c omp lete ly, ot h­
erwise it could explode.
- Do not allow battery acid to contact eyes
or skin. Fl ush any contacted area with
wate r immediately.
- Improper use of a booster battery to start a vehicle may cause an explosion.
- Vehicle batter ies genera te exp losive gas­
es. Keep spar ks, flame and lighted c iga ­
rettes away from batte ries.
- Do not try to jump start any ve hicle w ith
a low ac id leve l in the battery.
- The vo ltage of the booste r batte ry m ust
a lso have a 12-volt rating. The capacity
(Ah) of the booster battery sho uld not be
lowe r tha n that of the discharged bat­
tery . U se of batte rie s of d iffe ren t voltage
or substantially diffe rent "Ah" rat ing
may c au se an exp losion and persona l in­
JU ry.
- N ever cha rge a fro zen battery. Gas trap­
pe d in the ice may cause a n ex plosion.
- Never cha rge or use a batte ry tha t h as
been fr ozen. T he battery case may have
be weakened.

The discharged battery must be properly
connected to the vehicle's electrical sys­
tem. When jump starting or charging the
battery, never connect the negative
ground cable to the battery negative post
because the batte ry manager system must
be able to detect the battery 's state of
charge. Always connect the negative
ground cab le to the negative ground post
of the battery manager control unit.
Use of jumper cables
Make sure to connect the jumper cable
clamps in exactly the order described below!

jumper cables is intended to provide a jump
start for your vehicle.

gases from entering the veh icle inter ior. Make
sure that the jumper clamps are well connect­
ed with their metal parts in full contact with
