General recommen­
dations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can
only provide maximum protection if the front
seats are correctly adjusted.
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger. Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quick ly reach all the
switches and controls in the instrument
panel
- your body is properly supported thus reduc­ ing physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and airbag system can offe r
maximum protection
¢ page 139.
In the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats .
There are special regulations and instructions
for installing a child seat on the front pas­
senger's seat. Always fo llow the information
regarding chi ld safety provided in
¢ page 165, Child Safety .
A WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the driver and
all other passengers can result in serious
personal injury.
- Always keep your feet on the f loor when
the vehicle is in motion -never put your
feet on top of the instrument panel, out
of the window or on top of the seat cush­
ion. Th is applies especially to the passen­
gers . If your seating position is incorrect,
you increase the r isk of injury in the case
of sudden braking or an acc ident. If the
airbag inflates and the seating position
is incorrect, this could result in persona l
injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and
front passenger to keep a distance of a t

least 10 inches (25 cm) between them­
selves and the steering wheel and/or in­
strument panel. If you're s itting any
closer than th is, the airbag system can­
not protect you properly. In addition, the
front seats and head restraints must be
adjusted to your body height so that they
can give you maximum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as
possible between yourself and the s teer­
ing wheel o r instrument pane l.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front pas­
senger's seat whi le the vehicle is moving.
Your sea t may move unexpected ly, caus­
ing sudden loss of vehicle cont rol and
personal injury . If you adjust yo ur seat
while the veh icle is moving, yo u are out
of posit ion.
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving.
We recommend that you adjus t the dr iver's
seat in the fo llowing manner:
.,. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so
that you can easily push the peda ls to the
floor wh ile keeping your knees s lightly bent

.,. Adjust the backrest so that when you sit
w ith your back against the backrest, you can
still grasp the top of the steering wheel.
.,. For adjustable head restra ints: adjust the
head restra int so the upper edge is as even
as poss ible with the top of your head . If that
is not poss ible, try to adjust the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this position
as possible ¢

A WARNING
-Never place any objects in the dr iver's foot-
well. An object could get into the pedal
area and interfere with pedal funct ion . In

Switching the memory function on /off
• Press the IOFFI button to swi tch the memory
function on/off. The LED in the button illu­
minates when the memory function is
switched off. Seating profi les are neither
stored nor recalled.
Storing a seating profile
• Press the ISETI button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button briefly. A tone con­
firms that the settings were stored.
Accessin g a seating profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ignition
is switched off, press the memory button.
.,. If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory
button until the seat adjustment is com­
plete.
_&. WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting
should only be recalled when the veh icle
is stationa ry - otherw ise you risk having
an accident .

IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the ve hicle . Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting th e temperatur e
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F ( +28 °C) can be set. O uts ide of this
range,
l o or hi wi ll appear in the climate con ­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power. There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Ad jus ting the airf low
You can adjust the airf low manually to suit
your needs . To have the airf low regulated au­
tomatically, press the
I AUTO j button.
li!J Adjusting the air distribut ion
You can manually se lect the vents where the
ai r will flow. To have the air distribution regu­
lated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button.
~I~* Adjusting seat heating /
ve ntilat ion *
Pressing the button switches the seat heat­
ing/ventilation on at the highest setting ( level
3). The LEDs indicate the heating/ventilation
level. To reduce the heating/venti lation, press
the button again. To switch the seat heating/
ventilation off, press the button repeatedly
until the LED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from leve l 3 to level 2.
l The windshield and side windows a re defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as possib le. The maximum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture should be set to approximately 72 °F (22
°() .
The IAUTOI button switches the defroster off.

The rear window heater only operates when
the engine is running. It switches off auto­
matically after 10 to 20 minutes, depending
o n the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and ho ld
the
l liiil REARI button for more than 2 seconds.
This remains stored until the ign ition is
switched off .
I SYNC I Sy nch ron izat ion *
When synchronization is switched on, the
same settings are applied to both the driver
and front passenger, except for the seat heat­
ing/ventilation*. The rear zone is also
synchronized. Synchronization switches off
when the settings for the front passenger s ide
o r rear are adjusted.
You can also switch synchronization on by pressing and holding a dial. For example, if
you press and hold the d ial on the front pas­
senger side, the settings for that s ide are
transfer red to the d river side. The same ap­
plies to the rear.
Air vents
You can open or close the center and outer
vents in the cockpit and the vents in the rear
cente r console and doo r pillars us ing the
ridged thumbwheels. The levers adjust the d i­
rect ion of the a irflow from the vents.
&_ WARNING

- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
periods of time . The windows could fog
up since no fresh air can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, press the air recirculation butto n aga in immediately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or se lect defrost.
- Individuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could deve lop burns
when using the seat heating function . To
red uce the risk of i njury, these indiv idu-
als sho uld no t use seat heating. ..,.

Rear cabin settings*
When th is fu nction is selected, all sett ings for
the rear can be adjusted through the climate
control sys tem in the cockpit. The cl imate
con trol sy stem se ttings cannot be adjusted in
the rea r seat a t the same time. This func tion
switches o ff after a certain period of time or
when one of the dia ls in the cockp it is press­
ed .
Auto recirculation*
The sensit ivity level of the au tomatic rec ircu­
lation mode can be set at v ario us leve ls from
off to sensit ive. The recirculation mode is con­
trolled a utomat ica lly. You must p ress the
I@ FRONT I button if fog forms on the win­
dows.
Footwell temperature
You can ad just the footwe ll temperat ure so
that it is cooler or wa rmer.
Steering wheel heating

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

brake pedal or the accelerator pedal and
press the sw itch C®> at the same time to re­
lease the parking brake. The ind icator lights

ada mode ls) in the instrument cluster go
out.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome­
chanica l parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling
unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
I n addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake , the electromechan ical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions.
When starting from rest
-The integral starting assist helps you when
driving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake ¢ page 78, Starting from rest .
- When starting on inclines, the starting as-

An emergency brake ensures that the veh icle
can be slowed down even if the normal brakes

Do not press the acce lerator pedal inadver­
tently if the vehicle is stationary but the
engine is running and a gear is selected.
Otherwise the vehicle will start to move immediately and could result in a crash.

-If the parking brake is applied with the
ignition switched off, the indicator lights
in the switch and. (USA models)/ .
(Canada models) in the instrument clus­
ter will go out after a certain period of
time.
- Occasional noises when the parking
brake is applied and released are normal
and are not a cause for concern .
- When the vehicle is parked , the park ing
brake goes through a self-test cycle at
regular interva ls . Any associated noises
are normal.

vehicles or obstacles that are not moving
can trigger a collision warning and if con­
firmed by the v ideo camera, an acute col­
lis ion warn ing .
- For safety reasons, do not use adaptive
cruise co ntrol when driving on roads with
many curves, when the road surface is in
poor condit ion and/or in bad weather
(such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and
hydroplan ing) . Using the system under
these cond it ions cou ld result in a co lli ­
sion .
- Swi tch adap tive c ruise control off tempo­
rar ily when driv ing in turning lanes, on
expressway exits or in construction
zones. This prevents the vehicle from ac­
celerat ing to the set speed when in these
situations.
- The adapt ive cruise control system wi ll
not brake by itse lf if you put your foot on
the accelerator pedal. Doing so can over­
ride the speed and distance regulation .
- When approaching stationary objects such as stopped traff ic, adaptive cruise
co ntrol will not respond and braking
guard w ill have limited function.
- The adapt ive cruise control system and
braking guard do not react to people, an­
imals, objects c rossing the road or on­
coming objects .
- The function of the radar senso rs can be
affected by reflective objects such as
guard rai ls , the entrance to a tunnel,
heavy rain or ice.
- Never follow a ve hicle so closely that you
cannot stop your vehicle safe ly. The
adaptive cruise contro l canno t slow or
brake the vehicle safely when you follow
another vehicle too closely. Always re­
member that the automatic braking
function cannot br ing the vehicle to a
sudden or emergency stop under these condit ions.
- To prevent unintended operation, always switch ACC off when it is not being used. (D Note
The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. That cou ld affect the adaptive
cruise control system and brak ing guard.

In curves

tance to the vehicle ahead. No arrow appears
when the vehicle is on an open road and there
is no object ahead . If an object is detected

Improper use of the adaptive cruise con­
trol can cause collisions, other accidents
and serious personal injur ies.
- Pressing the
ISET ! button when driv ing at
speeds be low 20 mph (30 km/h), will au­
tomatically accelerate the vehicle to 20
mph (30 km/h), which is the minimum
speed that can be set.
© Tips
-If you switch the ignit ion or the adaptive
cruise control off, the set speed is erased
from the system memory.
- Th e electronic stabilizat ion contro l (ESC)
and the anti-s lip-regulat ion (ASR) are a u­
tomatically turned on when the adaptive
cruise control is turned on. Both systems
cannot be turned off if the adaptive
cruise contro l is turned on.

Audi active lane assist
Active lane assist
Description
App lies to vehicles: with active lane assist
Active lane assist helps you keep your vehicle
in your lane .
Active lane assist detects lane marker lines
within the limits of the system using a camera
in the windshield . If you are approaching a de­
tected lane marker line and it appears likely
that you w ill leave the lane, the system will
warn you by means of corrective steer ing . T he
d river can over ride the correct ive steer ing at
any time. If the veh icle crosses a line, the d riv­
er is also warned by a light
vibration in the
steering wheel. The vibration warning must be switched on in the MMI for this to happen.
Active lane ass ist is operable when the line
marking the lane is detected on at least one
side of the vehicle .
If the system is in active standby mode and
the turn signa l is activated before driving over
the lane marker line, the warning does not oc­
cur since the system allows for intentional lane changes.
The system is designed for driv ing on free ­
ways and expanded highways and thus works
only at speeds of 40 mph (65 km/h) or more .
If the vehicle is also equ ipped with Audi adap­
tive cruise control*, the corrective steering
will be more specific in regard to the driving
situation . In addition to the lane marker lines,
the system can also take into account other
objects such as guard rails . If they are detect­
ed i n close prox imity to the veh icle, Audi ac­
tive lane ass ist helps prevent the vehicle from
driving too close to them . There is also pass ­
ing assistance. The system does not provide
any corrective steering if it detects that you
are passing another vehicle.
A WARNING , ~
- The system warns the driver that the ve­
hicle is leaving the lane us ing corrective steer
ing. The driver is always responsible
for keeping the vehicle within the lane .
- The system can assist the driver in keep­
ing the vehicle in the lane, but it does
not steer by itself. Always keep your
hands on the steering wheel.
- Corrective steer ing may not occur in cer­
tain situat ions, such as dur ing heavy
brak ing .
- The camera does not recognize all lane
marker lines. Corrective steer ing can only
take p lace on the side of the vehicle

possibly be identified un intent ional ly as
lane marker lines . As a res ult, correct ive
steer ing may be unexpected or may not
occ ur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for
examp le by vehicles driving ahead o r by
r ai n, snow, heavy spray or light shining
into the camera. T his can result in act ive
lane assist not detecting the lane marker
lines or detect ing them incorrectly .
- Unde r ce rtain condi tions such as ruts in
the road, a banked roadway or cross­
winds, the co rrective steering alone may
not be eno ugh to keep the vehicle in the
lane.
- For safety reasons, active lane ass ist
must not be used when there are poor
road and/or weather conditions such as
slippery roads, fog, grave l, heavy rain,
snow and the potential for hydroplaning.
Using act ive lane assist under these con­
d itions may increase the risk of a crash.
