could burn yourself. Let the engine cool off
first until you can no longer see or hear
steam or coolant escaping .
0 Note
- Mounting additional lights or accessories in
front of the air inlets reduces the cooling ef­
fect of the radiator. At h igh outside temper­
atures or high engine load, the engine could
overheat .
- The front spoiler has been designed to prop­
erly distribute the cooling air when the veh i­
cle is moving . If the spoiler is damaged, this
could red uce the cooling effect and the en­
gine could then overheat. Ask your author­
iz ed Audi dealer for assistance.
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RPM).
You should shift to the next lowest gear when
the speed is below 1500 RPM . The beginning of
the red zone in the tachometer indicates the
maximum permissib le engine speed for all gea rs
once the engine has been broke n in. Before
reaching the red zone, you should shift into the
next higher gear, choose the Dor 5 selector lever
position , or remove your foot from the accelera­
tor pedal.

may only be in the red area of the gauge
for a short time or there is a risk of engine
damage. The beginning of the red range in
the gauge depends on the engine operating

Upshifting early helps you to save fuel and re­
duce operating noise.

The engine speed is limited when the engine
is cold - the full engine output is not availa­
ble. When the engine is at operating temper-

ature, the red area in the tachometer moves
to a higher RPM range.
Fuel level
The fuel gauge only works when the ignition is
on. If the fuel level drops below 2.6 gallons (10
liters), the bottom LED turns red and the indica­
tor light
tD turns on Q page 20. The bottom
LED blinks red when the fuel level is very low .
The possible range based on the current fuel lev­
el is shown in tab@¢
page 22, fig. 4.

Never drive until the tank is comp letely emp­
ty. The irregu lar supply of fuel that resu lts
from that can cause the engine to misfire. Un­
combusted fuel w ill then enter the exhaust
system. This can cause overheating and dam­
age to the catalytic converter .
Indicator lights
Description
The indicator lights in the instr ument cluster
blink or turn on. They indicate functions or mal­
funct ions ¢& .
Messages may appear with some indicator lights .
A warning signal will sound at the same time.
The indicator lights and messages in the center of the displays may be replaced by other disp lays.
To show them again, select the tab for indicator
lights and messages using the multifunction
stee ring wheel ¢
page 22. If there are several
malfunctions, you can display them one at a time
using the thumbwheel.
Some indicato rs lights in the d isplay can turn on
in several colors .

move the vehicle a safe distance off the
road, stop the engine, and turn on the

- The engine compartment of any motor vehi­
cle is a potentially hazardous area. Before
you check anything in the engine compart­
ment, stop the engine and let it cool down.
Always exercise extreme caution when work­
ing under the hood

Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly to check the
function of that system when you switch the igni­
tion on. These systems are marked with a../ in
the following tables. If one of these indicator
lights does not turn on, there is a malfunction in
that system.

quires immed iate service or re pair. Driving wi th a
low- oil-pressure indi cation is likely to inflict se ­
vere damage to the engine .

- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do not rely on it . Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals , preferably
each time you refuel , and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

requires oil refill or workshop service with­
out delay. Do not wait until the red oil
pressure warning. starts to flash before
you respond to the low oil level warning

!?) Engine speed limitation
(II Maximum engine speed XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the instrument cluster. This
protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator ped­
al.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the~ indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam­
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility im­
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.
(D Tips

If the symbol illuminates, contact your author­
ized Audi dealer and have the oil sensor inspect­
ed. Until you have this done, check the oil level
each time you refuel just to be on the safe side

Fuel has entered the engine oil, either from low
outside temperatures or frequent short drives.
Drive until the engine is warm so that the fuel in
the engine oil will evaporate . Avoid high engine
speeds, full accelerating and heavy engine loads
when doing this.

The Head-up display projects certain warnings or
selected information from the ass istance sys­
tems* or navigation* on the windshie ld. The d is­

Display content
In the Infotainment system, you can spec ify
which information shou ld be disp layed: For ex­
amp le, this can include navigation information*,
Adaptive cruise contro l* or night vision assist *.
The display of certain information and some of
the red indicator lights cannot be hidden in the
Infotainment system.
Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the Info­
ta inment system . The display br ightness dec reas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas­
es . The basic leve l of brightness is adjusted with
the instrument illumination

To prevent scratches on the glass covering the
Head-up display, do not place any objects in
the projection opening.
(D Tips
- Sunglasses with polarization filters and un­
favorable lighting conditions can affect the
display.
- An optimum display depends on the seat
position and the height adjustment of the
head-up display.
- A special windshie ld is needed for the head ­
up display function .

© Engine oil temperature indicator
If the engine oil temperature is below 60 °C, the
II symbol followed by three hyphens"---" and
the °C unit is shown.
The engine has reached its operat ing tempera­
ture when the engine oil temperature is between
60
· c and 120 °C under normal driving condi­
tions . The engine oil tempe rature may be higher
if there is heavy eng ine load and high tempera­
tures outside . This is not a cause for concern as
long as the .
~page 16 or Ill ~page 16 indi­
cator lights in the display do not blink.
Lap timer
Introduction
You can record and evaluate lap times with the
lap timer in the display <=>
page 2 7, fig. 16. The
time is measured in minutes, seconds and 1/10
seconds. The hours are also shown when the lap
time exceeds 60 minutes. The maxim um individ­
ua l measurement is 99 hours. A maximum of SO
laps may be recorded.

Please devote your full attention to driving.
As the driver, you have complete responsibili­
ty for safety in traffic. Only use the functions
in such a way that you always maintain com-

plete control over your vehicle in all traffic sit­
uations.

When the lap timer stopwatch is running, you
can call up the on-board computer informa­
tion.

Braking
What affects braking efficiency?
New brake pads
During the first 250 miles (400 km), new brake
pads do not possess the ir full braking effect, they
have to be "broken in" first¢&, . The b reak-in pe­
riod can be considerably longe r fo r vehicles with

ceramic brake rotors* . You can compensate for
this slightly reduced braking power by pushing harder on the brake pedal. Avoid heavy braking
l oads during the break-in per iod.
Op erating c ondition s and dri ving habits
The brak es on today 's automobiles are still sub ­
ject to wear, depending large ly on operating con­
dit ions and driving habits ¢&, . On vehicles that
are either driven mostly in stop-and-go city traf­
fic or are driven hard, the brake pads shou ld be
checked by your authorized Audi dealer more of­
ten than specified in the
Warr ant y & Maint e­
nance booklet .
Failure to have your brake pads

ance.
On steep slopes, you should use the brak ing ef ­
fect of the engine . Th is way, you prevent unnec­
essa ry wea r on the brake system. If you must use
you r brakes, do not ho ld the brakes down contin­
u ous ly. P ump the brakes at intervals.
Operating noi se
Noises may occur when brak ing depending on the
speed, braking force and outside conditions such as temperature and h umid ity.
Due to the nature of the mater ials used in ceram­
i c brake rotors*, no ises may become more appa-
rent at low speeds. ..,.
