Reactivating the system after battery
disconnection Reactivating the convenience close/open feature
If the vehicle battery is disconnected and then reconnected,
the automatic closing and opening function will not work until it is reactivated. To reactivate this feature, perform the
following steps:
Reactivating close/open feature
-Pull and hold the power window switch until the window
is completely closed.
- Release the switch .
- Pull the switch again for one second. The automatic
closing/opening is now reactivated. •
Panoramic sliding sunroof
Applies to veh icles: with pano ram ic slid ing sunroof
Description
The panoramic sliding sunroof is operated with the toggle switch
=> fig. 39 wh en the ignition in on .
The panoramic sliding sunroof can still be opened or closed for
about 10 minutes after the ignition has been switched off. However,
as soon as the driver's or passenger's door is opened, the switch for
the roof is inoperative. •

The panoramic sliding sunroof is opened in two stages.
First, the roof lifts up and then it can be opened.
Lifting
- Tap the switch G) ~ fig. 39 briefly, and the roof lifts auto­
matically (pop-up position) .
Opening automatically (independent operation)
-Tap the switch G)~ fig. 39 briefly, and the roof moves to
the lift position .
- Tap the switch
G) briefly a second time, and the roof
moves to the low wind noise comfort position .
- Press the switch
G) until the roof is fully open. In this
position increased wind noise may occur.
Opening manually (manual operation)
- Press the switch G) ~ fig. 39, starting from the "lift posi -
tion" unt il the roof has reached the desired position.

on the next time automatic headlights are switched on. To use the
high beams, you first have to pull the high beam lever back and then
push the lever forward again.
• In cool or damp weather, the inside of the headlights, turn
signals and tail lights can fog over due to the temperature differ­
ence between the inside and outside. They will clear shortly after
switching them on. This does not affect the service life of the
lighting.
• Frequent use of the coming home/leaving home function for
approaching and departing a vehicle parked in the dark will strain
the battery . This applies particularly if only short distances are
driven between stops. Occasionally drive longer distances to make
sure the battery is recharged sufficiently. •
Applies to vehicles: with Adap tive Light
Adaptive light
When driving around bends, the relevant area of the road
is better illuminated.

The benefit of adaptive light is that the curve and the edge of the
road are better illuminated::::} fig . 48 . The adaptive light is controlled
automatically, depending on vehicle speed and steering wheel
angle.

Clear vision
When driving around bends, the headlights are controlled
according to steering wheel angle. So that there is no black area
ahead of the vehicle, the two main beams pivot at different angles .

The system works above a speed of about 6 mph (10 km/hl. •

You should switch on the emergency flasher when:
• you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic jam so that any other
vehicles coming can see you, or when
• your vehicle has broken down or you are in an emergency s itua ­
tion, or when
• your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you .•
Turn signals -¢ ¢ and high beam ~D lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column is used to
operate the turn signals and the high beam as well as the
headlight flasher .

The turn signal and high beam lever has the following func­
tions:

- Lift the lever up all the way:::::, fig. 52 G), to use the right
turn s ignals, or push the lever down all the way@ to use
the left turn signals.

Auto-blink
- Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of resis­
tance to use the turn signals for as long as you need
them, for example when changing lanes .
- Briefly move the lever up or down just to the point of resistance and then release it to flash the turn signals
three times in succession. This feature allows to indicate
lane changes clearly and with minimum effort when
driving on highways.

- Push the lever forward 0 to switc h on the high beam.
- P ull the lever back towards y ou to sw itch off the high
beam.
H eadlight flasher

Pu ll the lever toward the steering wheel G) to use the
headlight flasher .
Note s on these features
• The turn signals only work with the ignition switched on. The
indicator lights
¢i or ¢ in the instrument cluster:::::, page 11 also
blink .
• After you have turned a corner, the turn signal switches off auto­
matically.
• The high beam works only when the headlights are on . The indi ­
cator light ~Din the instrument cluster illuminates when the high
beams are on.
• The headlight flasher works only as long as you hold the lever -
even if there are no lights switched on. The indicator light ~D in the
instrument cluster illuminates when you use the headlight flasher . .,

- Switch the ignition off again and move the wiper lever
~ page 62, fig. 61 from position Oto 1 w ithin 10 seconds .
The wiper arms now move into t he field of view in the
windshield.
The service position can also be selected in the driver information system*
~ page 23.
0 Note
Never drive your vehicle when the windshield wiper arms are in the
service position and pulled away from the windshield. When you
drive faster than 4 mph (6 km/h) , the wiper arms automatica lly
return back to the park position and could cause paint damage to
the eng ine hood!
[ i ] Tip s
• You can a lso turn on the service position, for example, if you
want to protect the windshield from icing by using a cover.
• The service position moves to
off automatically when you
operate the windshield wiper lever , or speed exceeds 4 mph
(6 km/h). •

Wiper blades in good condition help keep the windshield
clear.

- Fold the windshield wiper arm away from the glass.
- On the upper end of th e wiper arm at the corrugat ion,
squeeze the plastic reta iner together on both sides in the

- Press the knob in the appropr iate direction to move the
mirror surface so that you have a good view to the rear.
Heat ed mirrors*

Folding both exterior mirrors*
- Rotate the knob to position @.
Depending on outside tempera ture and v ehic le speed, the mirror
surfaces are heated until the ignition is swi tched off -even if the
ro tary knob is no longer in position @.
Yo u are well -advised to fold * the outside mi rrors in when maneu ­
vering in tight spaces or when leaving the car parked c lose to other
vehic les .

Clear vision

• Curved mirro r surfaces (convex or spherica l* ) increase your fie ld
of view. Remember that vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and far ther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use th is
mirror to estimate distances of fo llowing vehic les when changing
lanes, you cou ld estimate incorrectly and cause an accident .
[ i ] Tips
If the re shoul d be a malfunctio n in the electrical system, yo u ca n
still adjust the outside mirrors by pressing the edge of the mirror .•

Automatic dimming for outside mirrors
The outside mirr ors are dimmed t ogether wi th the automatic
dimming of the inside mirror. When the ignition is switched on , the
mir ro rs darken automat ically depending on the light s triking the m
(e.g . headlights from the rear) .
When the interior lighting is switched on and when reverse gear is engaged, the mir rors are switched back to their o riginal b rightness
(not dimmed).
& WARNING
Broken glass of automati c dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid leakage . Electrolyte fluid c an irritate skin , eyes , and respi ra ­
tory system .
• Repeated or prolonged e xpo sure to elect ro lyte can c au se irrita ­
tion to the respiratory system , e spe cially among people with
asthma or o ther re spiratory condition s. Get fresh air immediately
b y le aving the vehi cle or , if that i s not possibl e, open windows and
doors all the way . .,

When the rear seats are not occupied, you can lower the
head restraints (park position) and obtain better rearward
v1s1on.
Moving the head restraints to the "in-use
position"
- Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands.
- Move the head restraint to the uppermost position => fig. 77
G) until it latches On-use position).

- Press the release button => fig. 77 @.
- Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands.
- Press the head restraint down until it lies against the seat
back @ (park position) .

- Take the screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit

- Move the head restraint upward as far as it can go.
- Press the release button@=>
page 79, fig. 77 and pull
the head restraint upward as far as it can go at the same
time.
Insert the screwdriver at position @ into the recess and
pull out the head restraint at the same time .
Installing head restraints
- Push the rods for the head restraint into the guides until
they latch with an audible click .
The height of the center head restraints is adjustable. They should
be adjusted to fit the occupant's body size . Correctly adjusted head
restraints and safety belts are an extremely effective safety feature
~ page 129.
& WARNING
• Passengers may only occupy the rear seats when the head
restraints are in the top position.
• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of serious or fatal neck
injury dramatically.

• Hang clothes in such a way that they do not impair the driver's
v1s1on.
• The coat hooks must only be used for light weight clothing. Do
not leave any heavy or sharp edged objects in the pockets which
may interfere with the side curtain airbag deployment and can
cause personal injury in a crash.
• Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks
as this can interfere with proper deployment of the side curtain
airbags in an accident.
• Do not hang heavy objects on the coat hooks, as they could
cause personal injury in a sudden stop. •

Steering wheel with Tiptronic ® controls
The selector paddles allow the driver to keep both hands
on the steering wheel when shifting gears.

The selector paddles on the steering wheel are activated when the se lector lever on the center console is in
D , S , or in the manua l posi ­
tion (Tiptronic mode) .
You can a lso shift gears in the Tiptronic mode using the se lector
lever on the center console .

With the gear selector lever in ei ther "D" or "S" the transmission wi ll
switch back to the automatic mode if you do not use the paddles
within approx . 30 seconds .•

Kick -down feature
T he kick-down feature allows maximum acceleration.
If you depress the accelerator pedal ful ly beyond the ful l- throt tle
position, the transmission automatically downshifts one gear,
depending on vehic le speed a nd eng ine rpm . The upshi ft into the
next higher gear takes place as soon as the max imum specified
engine speed is reached .

Please note th at th e drive wheel s can spin if the kick -do wn is used

Launch Control Program
The Launch Control Program permits maximum accelera­
ti on.
In order to use Launc h Control, t he ASR (Anti-Slip Regula­
tion) must be disab led . When ASR is disabled, the ESP
warning/indicator light in t he instrument cluster illumi ­
nates . So that Launch Control can be used, the engine must
be at operat ing temperature and the stee ring wheel must
not be turned.
- With the engine running, briefly press the ESP button.
The message "ASR off" appears in the instrument c luster
disp lay .
- Shift the gear lever to "S" or the tiptronic® pos ition.
- Step on the brake peda l w ith yo ur left foo t and keep the
brake peda l fully depressed for at least one second . _,.
