Rear reading light
Press the switch "<~ to turn on and off the reading light .•
Luggage compartment light
A dome light in the rear roof liner illuminates the luggage
compartment. An additional light is provided on the
inside of the rear lid .
The light is located on the left side of the trunk .
With the switch at the center position, the rear dome light is auto­ matically switched on as soon as the rear lid is opened. The rear dome
light goes out 30 seconds after the rear lid is closed .
If the rear lid is left open for more than 10 minutes, both the rear
dome light and the light in rear lid are switched off to conserve the
battery charge. •

Using the sun visors makes driving safer.

The sun visors for the driver and front passenger can be removed
from their center mountings and moved toward the door windows
(D
=> fig. 59 to protect against side glare .
The vanity mirror in the sun visors is covered by a lid. When you slide
the lid @open the mirror illumination comes on automatically.
When you slide the lid shut or fold the sun visor back up, the illumi­
nation also goes out.
There is a folding visor between the visors for the driver and the passenger which can be used to cover the space above the rear view
mirror .•

- Move the small lever (located on the bottom edge of the
mirror) to the front.

mirror surface so that you have a good view to the rear .
Heated mirrors*
- Turn the rotary knob to@).
Depend ing o n ou tside te mperature and veh icle speed, the mirror
surfaces are heated until the ign it ion is switched off -even if the
rotary knob is no longer in position @.

• Curved mirror s urfaces (convex or spherical*) in crease your field of
view. Remember that vehicles or other objects will appear smaller and farther away than when seen in a flat mirror.
If you use this
mirror to est imate d istances of following vehicles when changing

The windshield wipe r lever controls both the windshield
wipers and the washer system.

• The w indshield wipers are switched off when the ign ition is tu rned
off . Activate the windshield wipers after the ignition is switched back
on by mov ing the w indshield wipe r leve r to any pos ition.
• Worn or dirty windshield w iper blades cause smearing, which can
affect the operat io n of the l ight/rain sensor*. Check t he condi tion of
your windshield wiper b lades regularly.
• The rain sensor is part of the inte rval wiping system . Turning off
the ignition will also deactivate the rain sensor. To reactivate the
sensor, switch off the inte rval wiping funct ion, the n switch it back on
again .
• Applies to veh icles with light/ra in sensor: When the w ipers are
switched on manually and in rain conditions, the automatic head­
lights* turn on~

Intermittent wiping

Automatic wiper/washer function
- Push the wiper lever forward to the second stop, position
0 , and ho ld it there for as long as you want the rear
wiper/washer to operate.
- Release the lever aga in. T he wiper w ill keep run ning for
app rox . four seco nds .

The front wiper blades measure lef t side 23 .20 in . ( 590 mm) and
right s ide 18.50 in . (470 mm) in length ,
Clean yo ur wipe r blades regularly with a windshie ld washer so lu tion
to prevent st reaking. If the blades are very dirty, for example with
insec ts, caref ully clean the blades with a spo nge or a sof t brush .
I f the w iper blades begin to streak the windshield, this could be
caused by residue left on the windsh ie ld by automatic car washes.
Fill the windsh ie ld washe r con taine r with a spec ial solu tion ava ilab le
at your authori zed Audi dealer to remove the residue .
Be sure to inspe ct the cond it io n of your w iper blades regu larly . F or
safety reasons, replace your wiper b lades once or twice a year if
necessary. See your authorized Audi dealer for replacement blades.

General recommendations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only provide
maximum protection if the front seats are correctly
adju sted.
Th ere are several dif ferent ways you can ad just the d river's sea t and
t he front passenger's seat so that it confo rms to your body size .
It is
especially important t hat the seat be adjusted properly so that:
• you can easily and quickly reach a ll the switc hes and contro ls in the
ins trumen t pa nel
• your body is properly supported thus reducing phys ica l stress and
fatigue
• the safety be lts and airbag system can offer maximum protection

In the follow ing chapters, you will see exactly how you can best adjust
your sea ts .
Th ere are special regulations a nd instr uctions for install ing a child
safety seat on the front passenger 's seat. Always heed the informa ­
tion regarding child safety p rovided in=>
page 167, "Child Safety ".
& WARNING
Incorrect seating posit ion of the driver and all other passengers
can result in seriou s personal injury.
• Always keep your feet on the floor when the vehicle is in
motion -never put your feet on top of the instrument panel, out
of the window or on top of the seat cushion! This applies especially
to the passengers. If your seating po sition is incorrect you
increase the ri sk of injury in the case of sudden braking or an acci-

dent . If the airbag inflates and the seating position is incorrect
this could result in per sonal injury or even death .
• It is important for both the dri ver and front passenger to keep
a distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between themselves and
the steer ing whee l and /or instrument panel. If you're sitting any
closer than this , the airbag system cannot protect you properly. In
addition to thi s, the front seats and head restraints must be
adjusted to your body height so that they can give you maximum
protection .
• Always try to keep as much distance as possible between your­
self and the steering wheel or instrument panel.
• Do not adjust the driver's or front passenger 's seat while the
vehicle is moving. Your seat may move unexpectedly, causing
sudden loss of vehicle control and personal injury . If you adjust
your seat while the vehicle is moving, you are out of position. •
Driver's seat

Moving the front seats forward or backward
-Lift the lever => page 74, fig. 69 (D and slide the seat to
the desired posi tion.
- Release the lever and then move the seat f urther until you
feel and hear it engage.
Adjusting the seat height

-Push the lev er down and pum p i t to lo wer the sea t.
Adjusting the seatback angle
- Lean forwa rd to take yo ur weight off the seatback.

• Never adju st the driver's or front passenger's seat while the
vehicle is mov ing . If you do this while the veh icle is moving , you
will be out of po sition. Always adjust the driver's or front

• Be careful when adjusting the seat height . Check to see that no
one is in the way , or serious injury could result!
• To reduce the risk of in jury in the case of sudden braking or
accident , front passengers must never ride in a moving vehicle
with the seatba ck reclined. Safety belt s and the airbag system
only offer max imum protection when the seatback is upright and
the safety belt s are properly positioned on the body . The more the

Adjusting the height
- Push on the top of the switch plate in order to move the
support higher.
- Push on the bottom of the switch plate in order to move
the support lower.
& WARNING
Never adjust the lumbar support while the vehicle is moving. If
you adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you will be out of
position. Always adjust the lumbar support when the vehicle is
not moving. •
Head restraints
Front head restraints
The head restraints must be properly adjusted to the
occupants's height to provide optimal restraint in combi­
nation with the seat restraints.

Adjusting the head restraints
-To move the head restraint up, hold it at the sides with
both hands and slide it upward until you feel it click into
place.
- To move the head restraint down, press the button@

Removing the head restraints2>
- Fold the backrest forward=> page 81.
-Move the head restraint upward as far as it can go.

Pull the head restraint out of the backrest at the same

Installing the head restraints
Slide the posts on the head restraint down into the guides
until you feel the posts click into place.
- Press the button@=>
page 78, fig. 75 and slide the head
restraint all the way down. You should not be able to pull
the head restraint out of the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to the rear, the head
restraints should be pushed down completely when the rear seats are
not occupied.
& WARNING
• Only remove the rear seat head restraints when necessary in
order to install a child seat. Install the head restraint again imme-

diately once the child seat is removed. Driving without head
restraints or with head restraints that are not properly adjusted

Correctly adjusted head restraints and safety belts are an extremely
effective combination of safety features. •
Center armrest
The front center armrest can be adjusted to several posi­
tions and contains a storage bin.

To increase the size of the luggage compartment, both
parts of the seatback can be folded forward, individually
or together.

Raising the seatback
- Raise the seatback until it is securely latched=:>& . When
you can no longer see the red mark on the pin@, the seat
is latched.
Stowing luggage
- For safe loading and securing of items read and follow the
guidelines on=:>
page 131, "Loading the luggage
compartment" .
The rear seatback is divided into two segments-one third/two thirds.
You can fold down either or both parts of the seatback.
& WARNING
• The backrest must always be securely latched so that the safety
belt of the center seating position can work properly to help
protect the occupant.
• The backrest must be securely latched in position so that no
items contained in the luggage compartment can slide forward
upon sudden braking.
• Never allow safety belts to become damaged by being caught
in door or seat hardware.
• Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and damaged belt hardware
can break in a crash. Inspect the belts periodically. Belts showing
damage to webbing, bindings, buckles, or retractors must be
replaced.
