-You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not . Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe .
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door panel comes on for about 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
i s a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the
malfunction corrected by an author ized
Audi dealersh ip or qua lified repair fac ili­
ty.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat ­
ed i n the master key

@ Emerg ency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency, for example, in place of the ign ition key
<=> page 82. Keep it in a safe p lace and do
not carry it on your key ring .

bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you .
Number of keys
You can check the number of assigned keys to
you r vehicle <=>
page 11. This allows you to
make sure you have re ceived all of the keys
when you purchase a used vehicle.
Data in th e mast er ke y
During driving, service and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas­
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you abo ut the work yo ur ve­
hicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with
convenience key*.
Person al comf ort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own'' master key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, pe rsonal
convenience settings for the following sys ­
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate control
- Powe r locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Side assist*
- Drive select*
T he sto red settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignition .
A WARNING

-Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock . Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in t he
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle

In the event of malfunctions in the electrical
system, it may happen that you cannot re­
move the ignition key.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no doo r, the rear
lid or the hood is opened within 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself again automat ically.
This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period
of time .
It depends on the settings in the radio or
MM!* whether the entire vehicle is unlocked
or only certain doors

On vehicles with automatic transmission, the
selector lever must be in the P position, other­
wise the vehicle cannot be locked.

@ Tips
- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is work ing, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherw ise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the eng ine or open a
door . In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button@ .
- Use the pan ic function on ly if yo u are in
an emergency s ituation .

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any
door. The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door handle. It
makes no difference whether the master key
is in your jacket pocket or i n your brief case.
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking funct ion.
I t is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al ­
l ows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.
I t depends on the sett ings in the radio or
MMI* whether the entire vehicle is unlocked
or one of the doors

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended per iod, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle .
- To prevent the battery from being d is­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possib le,
the energy management system gradu­
ally switches off u nne cessary conven­
ience func tions.
It is possib le th at you
w ill not be able to unloc k your vehicle us­
ing these convenience func tions.

If you lock the vehicle using the power loc king
switch, p lease note the following:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be
loc ked u sing the power loc king system
sw itch.

-You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when yo u are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power loc king switc h illu­
minate when a ll the doors are closed and
l ocked.
- Front doors: you can un lock and open the
doors from the ins ide by p ulling on the door
hand le.
- Rea r doors: p ull the door handle once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the hand le again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically un lock.
A WARNING
- The power locking sw itch works w ith the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actua ted .
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- Locked doors make it more diffic ult for
eme rg ency workers to get into th e vehi ­
cle, w hich puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behi nd in the ve hicle, espe cially
ch ildren.

Locking the front passenger's door/rear
doors* with the mechanical key
The emergency lock is located on the rear side
of the front passenger's door and the rear
doors . It is only visible when the door is open.

all the way to the right (right door) or left (left door).
Once the front passenger's door/rea r doors *
have been closed, you cannot open them
again from the outside . The door can be
opened from the inside by pulling the door
handle.
If the child safety lock in a rear door*
is activated, you must first pull the door han­
dle on the inside . Then you can open the door
from the outside .

After the ignition is switched on, the pow­
er locking system switch and the unlocking button for the rear lid

enabled.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from
being started by unauthorized persons .
Inside the key there is a computer chip . This
chip automat ically act ivates/deactivates the
electron ic immobilizer.
Applies to vehicles with ignition lock:
The electronic immobilizer deactivates auto­
matically when you insert the remote control
key into the ign ition lock . It activates again
automatically when you remove the remote
control key from the ignition lock.
Applies to vehicles with convenience key:
If the remote control key is located inside the
vehicle and you press the
I S TART ENGI NE STOP I button, the electron ic
immobilizer deactivates automat ically .
If you
switch the ignition off and remove the remote
control key from the vehicle, the electronic
immobilizer activates again automatica lly. ..,.

Digital compass

The compass direction is shown in the rear­
view mirror.

T he digital compass only works when the igni­
tion is on . The directions are indicated with
abbreviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E
(east), SE (southeast), S (south), SW (south­
west),
W (west), NW (northwest) .
@ Tips
To prevent inaccurate compass readings,
do not bring any remote controls, electri­
cal devices or metallic objects near the
mirror .
Adjusting the magnetic zone
Applies to vehicles: with digita l compass
The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

the rearview mirror .

correct magnetic zone . The selection mode

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head rest raint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place.

head restraint all the way down. You shou ld
not be able to pull the head restraint out of
the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints shou ld be pushed
down complete ly when the rear seats are not
occupied.
A WARNING

restraints.
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat¢
page 175. Install the head re­
straint again immediately once the child
seat is removed. Driving without head re­
straints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk
of serious or fata l neck injury dramatical­
ly.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and
safety belts are an extremely effective
combination of safety features .
Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allo ws you to quickly
and easily store and reca ll personal seating
p ro files for the driver. The memory function is
ope rated through the master key and the
memory buttons in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profile is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. When you open the door, the seat profile
is automatically recalled. If two peop le
use one vehicle, it is recommended that each
person always uses "their own" master key.
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the
memory buttons in the drive r's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
l ected at any time .
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you
can a lso store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
trol key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: wit h seat memory
To assign the driver's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the veh icle, the
function must be activated in the rad io or
MMI*

Warm and cold Climate controls
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior.
It is the most effect ive when the windows and
sunroof are closed . If there is a build-up of
heat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to
speed up the cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed
once the engine coolant has reached a certain
temperature.
Condensat ion from the cooling system can
drip and form a puddle of water under the ve­
hicle. This is normal and does not mean there
is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants s uch
as dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at
the intervals spec ified in you r Warranty
&
Maintenance booklet, so that the air condi­
tioner can properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with h igh
a ir po llution, the fi lter may need to be
changed more frequent ly than specified in
your Aud i Wa rranty
& Ma intenance booklet. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad ­
visor for advice .
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are automat ically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use.
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents.
-
- For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Comp letely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especially how to defog and defrost the windows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer solution may freeze on the wind­ shie ld and reduce visib ility.

- If you suspect that the air conditioner
has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire special technical know ledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dea ler fo r assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(D Tips
-Keep the air intake s lots (in fro nt of the
w indshield) free from ice, snow and de ­
bris in order to maintain the proper func­
tion of the climate control system.
- T he energy management system may
switch the seat heating* or rear window
defroster off temporarily . These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing
on the luggage compartment cover, en­
sure that the openings are not covered.
