The light/rain sensor is malfunct ion ing.
The low beams remain switched on at all times
for safety reasons when the lig ht switch is in the
AUTO position. However, you can continue to
turn the lights on and
off using the light switch.
You can still control all functions that are inde­
pendent of the ra in sensor through the w ind­
shield w iper lever.
Drive to an authorized Aud i dea ler or authorized
Aud i Serv ice Facility immediately to have the
malfunct io n corrected.
; Adaptive dampers
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive dampers
B Suspension: malfunction! You may continue

There is an adaptive damper malfunction.

If the . or. indicator light blinks, a turn s ig­
nal is turned on. If both indicator lights are blink­
i n g, the eme rgency flashers are on.

Opening and closing
Central Locking
Description
You can lock and unlock the veh icle centrally . You
have the following choices:
- Remote control key¢
page 40,
-Sensors in the door handles * ¢ page 40
- Lock cylinder on the driver's door¢ page 42,
or
- Interior central locking switch ¢
page 41.
Turn signals
The turn s ignals flash twice when you unlock the
veh icle and flash once when you lock the veh icle.
If they do not flash, then one of the doors, the
rear lid or the hood is not closed.
Automatic locking (Auto Lock)
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
luggage compartment lid once the speed has ex­
ceeded approximately 9 mph (15 km/h).
The vehicle can be unlocked if the opening func­
tion in the central locking system sw itch is used
or one of the door handles is pulled.
In the event of a crash with airbag deployment,
the doors will a lso automat ically unlock to allow
access to the vehicle.
Selective door unlocking
The doors and luggage compartment lid will lock
when they close . You can set in the Infotainment
system whether
only the driver's door or the en­
tire vehicle should be unlocked when unlocking
¢page 41.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
The following conditions prevent you from lock­
ing your remote control key in the vehicle:
- If the driver's door is open, the vehicle cannot
be locked by pressing the~ button on the re­
mote control key or by touching the locking

- When locking using the~ button in the central
locking switch, the vehicle will not lock if a door
is open ¢
page 41.
-On vehicles with a convenience key*, the lug­
gage compartment lid unlocks again after clos­
ing if the most recently used key is in the lug­
gage compartment. The emergency flashers blink four times.
Do not lock your vehicle with the remote control
key or convenience key* until all doors and the
luggage compartment lid are closed. This helps
to prevent you from locking yourself out acciden­
tally .
A WARNING
-
-When you lock your vehicle from outs ide,
nobody -espec ially children -should rema in
inside the vehicle. Remember, when you
lock the vehicle from the outside the win­
dows cannot be opened from the inside .
- When you leave the vehicle, always take the
ignition key with you. This will prevent pas­
sengers (children, for examp le) from acci­
dentally being locked in the vehicle should
they accidentally press the power locking
switch in the doors.
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle un­
supervised. In an emergency it would be im­
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
(D Tips
- Do not leave valuables unattended in the ve­
hicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- The LED in the driver's door rail blinks when
you lock the vehicle. If the LED lights up for
approximately 30 seconds after locking,
there is a malfunction in the central locking
system . Have the problem repaired by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility.

You can switch the valet parking function on l )
when someone else is parking you r veh icle . When
the function is sw itched on, the vehicle can be
driven, locked and unlocked us ing the master
key, but access to the luggage compartment is not permitted .

The follow ing buttons are deactivated when the
valet parking funct ion is switched on:
- C::J button in the dr iver 's door
- C::J button on the remote control key

When the valet parki ng f unction is swi tched on,
the message Valet parking a cti va te d appears in
the instrument cluster display when you switch
the ignition on .

Please note that the luggage compartment
c a n sti ll be accessed from t he vehi cle interior
in vehicles with fixed rear seat backres ts or
ones t hat cannot be locked, even when the
valet parking function is switched on .

Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opene r (Horne Link)

With the garage door op ener (Homelink) , you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
security systems or house lights from inside your
vehicle. Three buttons are integrated i n the head­
liner that can be programmed to up to three re­
mote controls .
To be able to operate systems using the garage door opener, the buttons in the headliner must
first be programmed .
A WARNING
When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people o r o b­
jects a re in the immediate area of the sys tem.
P eop le can be injured or property can be dam­
aged i f str uck when closing.

- For sec urity reasons, we recommend that
yo u clear the prog rammed but tons before
sell ing t he ve hicl e.

All weather lights
The front lights a re adjusted au toma tically so
that there is less g lare fo r the d river from his o r
her ow n lights , fo r example when roads are wet .
Automatic dynamic headlight range control*
Your vehicle is equipped with a headlight range
contro l system so that there is les s glare fo r on­
com ing t raff ic if the vehicle load changes . Th e
headlight range also adjusts automatically when
braking and accelerat ing.
Static cornering light *
The static co rnering light may be available de­
pend ing on veh icle equipment and it only works
whe n the light swi tc h is in the AUTO position. The
cornering light switches on automatica lly at
spe eds up to approximately 44 mph (70 km/h) at
spec ific steering wheel ang les and at speeds up
to approximate ly 25 mph (40 km/h) when you
turn on a turn signal. The a rea to the side of the
vehicle is illuminated better when turni ng.
_& WARNING
- Automatic headlights are only intended to
assis t the driver. They do not relieve the
d river of respo nsib ility to chec k the he ad­
lights and to t urn them on m anu ally based
on t he cur re nt ligh t and v is ib ility condi tions.
F or e xamp le, fog cannot be detected by t he
light sensors . So always switch on the low
beams under these weather condit ions and
when dr iv ing in the dark
~D.
- The rear fog lights sho uld only be turned on
in accordance w ith traffic regulations, to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
- Always observe lega l regulat ions when us­
ing the lighting systems desc ribed.
(D Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the a utomat ic head ­
lights is located in the rearview mi rror
mount. Do not p lace any st ic kers in this area
on the w indshield.
- Some exter ior light ing funct io ns can be ad­
justed

-If you turn off the ignition while the exterior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone sounds.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights , turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing .
Turn signal and headlight lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

The turn signals activate when you move the lev­
er into a turn signal position when the ignition is
switched on.

A WARNING
-High beams can cause glare for other drivers,
which increases the risk of an accident . For
this reason, only use the high beams or the
headlight flasher when they will not create
glare for other drivers.
Headlight assistant
Applies to: vehicles wit h headlight assist
The headlight assistant automatically turns the
high beams on or off depending on the surround­
ing conditions .

A camera on the rearview mirror mount can de­
tect light sources from other road users. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the position of vehicles driving ahead and on­
coming vehicles, the vehicle speed and other en­
vironmental and traffic conditions.
Activating headlight assist
Requirement: the light switch must be set to the
AUTO position and the headlight assist must be switched on in the Infotainment system
r=;, page 52.
"'To activate the headlight assist, tap the lever

- W hen the re are roa d users that do not have
suff icient lighting, such as b icyclers or
veh icles with dirty tail lamps.
- In tig ht curves an d on steep h ills.
- In poorly li t areas.
- Wi th st ro ng ref le ctor s, such as s igns .
- If th e area of the w inds hield ne ar the sensor
is fogged over, di rty, icy or covered with a
s tick er.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
Th e functions are adjust ed in th e Infotainment
sys tem .
~ Select in the Infotainment system : IMENU! but­
t on
> Vehicle > left cont rol b utton > Vehicle
settings > Exterior lighting .
Automat ic headlights
You can adjust the following sett ings in the Au­
tomatic headlights

Acti vation time -you can adjust if the headlights
switch on
Early , Med or Late accord ing to the
sensit ivity of t he lig ht sensor.
Headlight assistant * -you can switch the hea d­
li ght assistant * on and off.
Entry/exit lighting
Whe n it is da rk , the Entry/exit lighting ill um i­
na tes the area a ro und t he vehi cle when unlo cki ng
the ve hicle an d after switc hing off the ig nitio n
and o pening the dr iver's door.
The
Entry/exit lighting only wo rks when i t is
d ar k and the light sw itch is in the
AUTO p osit io n.
Daytime running lights
USA models:
the dayti me r unning lig hts can be
swi tched on/off. Select
On or Off.
Canada models : this function ca nnot be switched
off . They act ivate automatically eac h time the ig ­
nit ion is switched on .

Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other drivers
aware of your vehicle in dangerous situat ions .
.. Press the~ button to switch the emergency
flashers on or off.
You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the
emergency flashers are switched on by using the
turn signal lever. The emergency flashers stop
temporarily.
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
tion is turned off.
(D Tips
You shou ld switch the emergency flashers on
if:
- You are the last car in a traffic jam so that
a ll other vehicles approaching from behind
can see you, or if
- Your vehicle has broken down or you are
having an emergency, or if
- Your vehicle is being towed or if yo u are
towing another vehicle.

Interior lighting
Front interior lighting
The interior lighting consists of the interior lights
and the reading lights for the driver and front
passenger .

Interior lighting

The interior lighting turns on when you switch
the head ligh ts on while the igni tion is on .
Version 1
To adjust the brightness of individua l zones, se­
lect
Front brightness *, Door brightne ss or Foot­
w ell brightness .
Turn the control knob to the left
or to the right. Press the contro l knob to confirm
the br igh tness.
Version 2
Select and confirm one of the displayed profiles.
Individual: you can customize the brightness and
color of individual zones.
Press the right control button. Se lect and con­
fi rm one of the disp layed options. To change the
brightness or the color, turn the control knob to
the left or right . Press the control knob to con­
f irm the brightness or the color.

The brightness of the instrument and display
lighting as well as the Head-up display* can be
adjusted.

Depending on vehicle equipment, the instru­
ment illumination (needles and gauges) may
turn on when t he lig hts are off and the igni­
tion is switched o n. T he i llum ination for the

turn s off a s br igh tne ss ou tside increases. Thi s
f u nct io n remin ds the dr ive r to tur n the low
b eams on at the appropria te t ime.

-If electrolyte fluid enters the eyes, flush
them thoroughly with a large amount of
clean water for at least 15 minutes and then
seek medical attention .
- If electrolyte fluid comes into contact with
the skin, flush the affected area with clean
water for at least 15 minutes and then clean
with soap and water and seek medical at­
tention. Clean affected clothing and shoes
thoroughly before wearing again .
- If the fluid was swallowed and the person is
conscious, flush the mouth with water for at
least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting
unless this is recommended by medical pro­
fessionals. Seek medical attenti .on immedi­
ately.
(D Note
If the glass on an automatic dimming mirror
breaks, electrolyte can leak out . This liquid
damages plastic surfaces and paint. Clean
this liquid as quickly as possible, for example
with a wet sponge .
@ Tips
-If the light reaching the rearview mirror is
obstructed, the automatic dimming mirror
will not function correctly,
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not dim
when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is selected .
Sun visors

(!)-Rain sensor mode. The windshield wipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds approx­ imately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is ra ining. The
higher the sensitivity of the rain sensor that is set
(switch @ to the right), the earlier the wind­
shield wipers react to moisture on the wind ­
sh ield . You can deactivate the rain sensor mode
in the Infota inment system, which switches the
intermittent mode on. To do th is, select:

tion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast w iping.
® -clean the windsh ie ld The wipers wipe one
time after several seconds of dr iving to remove
water droplets. You can switch this function off
by moving the lever to position ® within
10 sec­
onds of the after-wipe . The after-wipe function is
react ivated the next time you switch the ign ition
on.
C leaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the low beam head­ lights are sw itched on . If you move the lever into
position @, the headlights will be cleaned at
fixed intervals.
A WARNING
- T he rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver may still be responsible
for manually switching the w ipers on based
on v is ibility conditions.
- The w indshie ld may not be treated with wa­
ter -repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, s uch as wetness, dark­
ness or low sun, can result in increased
glare, which increases the risk of an acc i­
dent . Wiper blade chatter is also poss ible.
- Properly functioning windsh ield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
dr iv ing to red uce the risk of an accident

@ Note
- If there is frost, make sure the windshield
wiper blades are not frozen to the wind­
shield. Switching on the windshield wipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­
shield can damage the w iper blades.
- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
wiper system must be sw itched off (lever in
position
0). This prevents the wipers from
switching on unintentionally and caus ing
damage to the windsh ield wiper system.
@ Tips
- The windshield wipers switch off when the
ign ition is switched off. You can activate the
w indshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the w indshield
w iper lever to any position.
- Wor n or dirty w indshie ld w iper blades resu lt
in st reaking. T his can affect the rain senso r
function. Check your windshield wiper
blades reg ularly.
- The washer fluid nozz les for the windshield
washer system are heated a t low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on .
- Whe n stopping tempo rar ily, such as at a
t raffic lig ht, the speed of the windshield
wipers automatically reduces by one level.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the wiper b lades when you see wiper
streaks. Use a soft cloth and a g lass cleaner.
Wind shi eld wiper
