Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be mounted
w ith their tread pattern pointed in the right direction .
Using a spare tire w ith a tread pattern intended for
u se in a specific direction
When using a spare tire w ith a tread pattern intended for use in a
spec ific direction, please note the fo llow ing:
• The d irect ion of rotation is marked by an arrow on the side of the
tire.
• If the spare tire has to be installed in the incorrect direct ion, use
t he spare t ire only temporar ily since the tire w ill no t be ab le to
achieve its optimum pe rformance character istics with rega rd to
aquap lan ing, no ise and wear.
• We recommend that you pay particular attent ion to t his fact
during wet wea ther and that you adjust you r speed to match road
conditions .
• Rep lace the flat tire w it h a new one and have it ins talled on your
vehicle as soon as poss ible to resto re the handling advantages of a
unidirectio na l tire .•
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the in forma tion => page 318, "New t ires and replacing
tires and wheels" if you are going to use a spare t ire which is different
from the tires on yo ur vehi cle.
After you change a t ire:
• Check the tire pressure on the spare immediately after installaÂ
tion.
• Have the wheel bolt t ightening torque checked with a torque
wren ch as soon a s possible by your authorized Audi dealer or a qua lÂ
i fied serv ice stat ion.
Safety first • With steel and alloy wheel rims
, the wheel bolts are correctly
tightened at a torque of 90
ft lb (120 Nm ).
• If you notice that the wheel bolts are corroded and difficult to
turn while changing a tire, they should be replac ed before you check
the tightening torque.
• R epla ce the flat tire with a new one and have it install ed on your
vehicle as soon as possible. Remount the wheel cover.
Until then, drive with extra care and at reduced speed s.
& WARNING
• If you are going to equip your vehicle with tires or rims which
differ from those which were factory installed, then be sure to
read the information =>
page 318, "New tires and replacing tire s
and whe els ".
• Always make sure the damaged whe el or ev en a flat tire and
the jack and tool kit are prope rly secured in the luggage compart ·
ment and are not loo se in the pa ssenger compartment.
• In an accident or sudden maneu ver they could fly forward ,
injuring anyone in the vehicle .
• Always store dam aged wheel , jack and tools secu rely in the
luggage compartment. Otherwi se, in an accident or sudden
maneuver they could fly fo rward , caus ing inju ry to passengers in
the vehicle .
• Do not u se commercially available tire sealants . Otherwi se, the
electrical component s of the tire pre ssure monitoring system * will
no longer work properly and the sensor for the t ire pressure moni ·
toring sy stem* will have to be replaced b y a qualified work shop .•

de aler repla ce a ny bu lbs for you, s ince your deale r has the prope r
too ls, t he correct bu lbs and t he expertise.
Ga s discharge lamp s (Xenon lights) :
Due to the high electrical voltage, have the bulbs replaced by a qualÂ
ifie d technician. Headlig hts with Xe non light can be identified by the
hig h volt age sticker.
& WARNING
Contact with high-voltage components of the electrical system
and improper replacement of gas discharge (Xenon ) headlight
bulbs can cause serious personal injury and death .
• Xenon bulb s are pres surized and can explode when being
changed.
• Changing Xenon lamp s requires the special training, instruc Â
tions and equipment .
• Only an authorized Audi dealer or other qualified workshop
should change the bulbs in gas discharge lamps .
& WARNING
There are parts with sharp edges on the openings and on the bulb
holders that can cause serious cuts .
• If you are uncertain about what to do , have the work
performed by an authorized Audi dealer or other qualified workÂ
shop. Serious personal injury may result from improperly
performed work.

• App lying a higher vo ltage booster battery will cause expensive
damage to sens itive e lectron ic components, such as contro l units,
relays, radio, etc.
• There must be no electrical contact between the vehicles as otherÂ
wise current could already start to flow as soon as the positive(+)
terminals are connected.
[I] Tips
• The discharged battery must be properly connected to the
vehicle's electrical system . When jump starting or charging the
battery, never connect the negative ground cable to the battery negaÂ
tive post because the battery manager system must be able to detect
the battery's state of charge . Always connect the negative ground
cable to the negative ground post of the battery manager control
unit. •

Use of jumper cables
Make sure to connect the jumper cable clamps in exactly
the order described below!

The procedure described below for connecting jumper cables
is intended to provide a jump start for your vehicle.
Vehicle with discharged battery:
- Turn off lights and accessories, move lever of automatic
transmission to
N (Neutral) or P (Park) and set parking
brake.
Connect POSITIVE(+) to POSITIVE(+) (red)
1. Connect one end to the positive terminal~ fig. 282 © of
your battery @.
2 . Connect the other end to the positive terminal @ of the
booster battery®·
Connect NEGATIVE(-) to NEGATIVE(-)
(black)
3. Connect one end to the negative terminal® of the
booster battery@.

• To load the vehicle on to the flat bed, use the towing loop found
in the vehicle tools and attach to the front or rear anchorage
=> page 351 and=> page 352.
& WARNING
A vehicle being towed is not safe for passengers. Never allow
anyone to ride in a vehicle being towed, for any reason. •
Towing loops
When you screw in the towing loop, be sure to pay attenÂ
tion to the check markings.

The check markings are there to show you when the towing loop is
completely and correctly screwed into the threaded holes.
When you screw the towing loop into the
front bumper, the check

Do not install the front towing loop until it is needed.

Towing loop fully screwed in
On the right front under the bumper there is a threaded hole
to receive the towing loop. The threaded hole is concealed
behind an air intake grill.
- Insert the screwdriver into the slots as shown==> fig. 284
and press the top tab down and the lower tab up. At the
same time, pull the grill forward and out.
- Remove the towing loop from the vehicle tool kit.

- Align the vehicle with the centerline of the car carrier
ramp.
- Attach the winch hook to the front towline eye previously
installed.

Align the vehicle with the centerline of the car carrier
ramp .
- Attach the winch hook to the rear towline eye previously installed .

Check carefully to make sure the hook-up is secure before moving the
car up the flatbed truck ramp .•

Vehicle transport
Whenever you have your vehicle transported, be sure to
note the following:

Mount the tie-down chains/cables over the running surface (circumÂ
ference) of the tires. Never secure the vehicle by the axle , the suspenÂ
sion struts or the front or rear towline eye . For technical reasons, the
pressure in the suspension struts may change during the transport
and this will adve rsely affect veh icle handling. •
Lifting vehicle
Lifting with workshop hoist and with floor
jack
The vehicle may only be lifted at the lifting points illusÂ
trated.

Explanation of technical data
Some of the technical data listed in this manual requires
further explanation.
The technical data for your vehicle is listed in the charts starting on
~ page 360. This section provides general information, notes and
restrictions which apply to this data.•
Vehicle identification
The key data is given on the vehicle identification number
(VIN) plate and the vehicle data sticker.

The Vehicle Identification Number (VlN)
is locat ed on the driver's sid e so that it is visible from the outside
through the windshield ~ fig . 291. You can also display the Vehicle
Identification Number of your vehicle in the MMI. Select: Function
button [CAR]>
Systems> Vehicle ID number (VIN) .
The vehicle identification label
is located in the luggage compartment in the spare wheel well.

The safety compliance sticker
is your assurance that yo ur new vehicle complies with all applicable
Fede ral Motor Veh icle Safe ty Standards which were i n effect at the
time the vehicle was manufact ured . Yo u can fi nd this sticker on the
left doo r jamb.
It shows the mont h and year of prod uct io n and the
vehicle identification number of your veh icle (perforation) as well as
the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GV WR) and the Gross Axle Weight
Rating (GAWR).
The high voltage warning label
is located o n the loc k carrier.
The spark ignition system complies with the
Canadian standard ICES-002. •
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and the Gross Axle Weight
Rating (GAWR) for front and rear are listed on a sticker on the left
door jamb.
T he Gross Vehicle Weight Rating includes the weight of the basic
vehicle pl us f ull f uel tank, oil and coo la nt, plus max im um load, whi ch
includes passenger we ight (150 lbs/68 kg per des ignated seating
position) and luggage weight.
Gross Axle Weight Rating
Th e Gross Axle Weight Ra ting is the maximum lo ad that can be
applied at each axle of the vehicle~&.
Vehicle capacity weight
The vehicle capac ity weight (max . load) is listed either on the driver's
side B -pillar or inside the fuel fille r flap .
Safety first
Roof weight
The maxim um permiss ib le roof weight is 220 lb (100 kg ). T he roof
we ight is made up of the weight of the roof rac k system and t he
we ight of the object being transported~
page 94, "Loading the roof
rack".
& WARNING
• The actual Gross A xle Weight Rating at the front and rear a xles
s hould not exceed the permis sible weights , and their combination
must not exceed the Gros s Vehicl e Weight Rat ing .
• Exceeding permi ssible weight ratings can result in vehicle
damage, accidents and personal injury.

• T he vehicle capac ity we ight figures apply when the load is distribÂ
uted evenly i n the vehicle (passengers and lug gage). When trans Â
porting a heavy load i n the luggage compartment, ca rry the load as
near to the rear axle as possible so that the ve hicle's handling is not
impa ired.
• Do not exceed the max imum permissible axle loads o r the
maximum gross veh icle weight. Always remember that the vehicle's
handling will be affecte d by the extra load. Therefore, adjust your
speed according ly .
• Always observe loca l reg ulat ions. •
Dimensions
The specifications refe r to the basic mode l. Differences may occur
depe nd ing on the mode l type a nd options ordered, for exam ple, t ire
