You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. To fold the key out and back
in place, press the re lease button

@ Valet ke y
The valet key on ly fits the lock in the driver's
door and the ignition lock. If you have to leave
the key with somebody e lse, you are well-ad­
vised to turn over the valet key only.
Be aware that the rear lid and glove compart­
ment can be opened from inside the vehicle
using the release buttons .

the vehicle key should be lost or misplaced

You can check to find out how many keys have
been reg istered to your vehicle. Therefore,

all of the keys that belong to it.

unauthorized persons could endange r
you o r result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle. A lways loc k all doors a nd take the
key.
- D o not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially wi th access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro ­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­ supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in ser ious in­
jury.
{!) Tips
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime will
sound . Th is is your rem inder to remove
the key and lock the door.
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only ava ilable from Audi dealers .

,&_ WARNING
-If you use the power locking switch with
the doors closed, remember that all the
vehicle doors will lock.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not leave
anyone behind in the vehicle, especially
children.
Emergency locking
If the power locking system fails (power fail­ ure), you will need to lock the passenger door
separately.

For this purpose, a mechan ica l locking device
i s provided on the end panel of the passenger
door (only visible when the door is open) .

• Insert the key into the inner slot and turn it
to the right as far as it can go .
After you close the door you w ill no longer be
able to open it from the outside . You can open
it from the inside, however, by pulling on the
door latch tw ice.

cle using a switch in the driver's door .

-The rear seat area is too sma ll to safely
transport passengers taller than 4'11"
(1.5 m).
- Persons taller than 4'11" (1.5 m) as
well as children in booster seats who
a re too close to the rea r window and
r oof can suffer severe head and neck in­
juries when the rea r lid is closed or in a
crash.

- The minimum clearance between the
passengers ' heads and the rear window
must never -under any circumstances -
be less than 1 inch (2 .5 cm) when the
passengers sit fully upr ight.
- Always make sure that rear seat pas­
sengers cannot be struck when the rear
l id is closed .
- After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is prope rly
closed . Othe rw ise it could open sudden ly
when the veh icle is moving .
- To help prevent po isonous exha ust gas
from being d rawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rea r lid closed while dr iv­
ing. Never transport objec ts larger t han
those which fit completely in to the lug ­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave you r vehicle u nattended es ­
pecially with the rea r lid left open . A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becom ing trapped and unab le to
get out . To reduce t he risk of persona l in­
jury, never let ch ildren play in or around
yo ur vehicle . A lways ke ep the rear lid as
we ll as the veh icle doo rs closed when not
in use.

- If the rear lid is open or not properly
l ocked when th e ignition is turned on,
the door and rea r lid war ning appea rs in
the i nstr ument cluster disp lay.
- If the rear lid on a loc ked veh icle is un­
l ocked wi th the m iddle b utton
e:5 on the
r emo te key, t he rear lid is automatically
l ocked again immediately after clos ing.
This is indicated by the t urn signa ls
blinking.

cy release is provided .

Anti-theft alarm system
The anti -theft alarm triggers an alarm if any ­
one attempts to break into the vehicle.

The anti-theft alarm system triggers an audi­
b le alarm and turns on the emergency flasher
if an unauthor ized interference with the vehi­
cle is sensed by the system.
How is the anti-theft alarm system
switched on?
T he anti -theft a larm system is switched on
when you lock the driver's door manually us­
ing the fold-out key, or when you use the re­
mote control. The system is activated approxi­
mately 30 seconds after the veh icle is locked .
The indicator light ~
fig. 36 starts flashing
rapidly for 30 seconds and then blinks slowly.
How is the anti-theft alarm system
switched off?
The anti-theft a larm system is switched off
on ly when you use the remote contro l to un­
lock your veh icle. If you do not open a door
within 30 seconds after you have un locked
with the remote cont ro l, the vehicle will lock
itself again automatically.
If you lock just the dr iver's doo r using your
key, the front passenger's door and the rear
lid remain locked.
When will the anti theft alarm system be
triggered?
When the vehicle is locked , the alarm system
monitors and protects the following pa rts of
the vehicle:
- engine compa rtment
- luggage compartment
- doors
- ignition
When the system is activated, the alarm will be triggered if one of the doors, the engine
hood or the rear lid are opened, or if the igni­
tion is turned on.
The anti-theft a larm system will also go off
when the battery is disconnected.
You can also trigge r the alarm by pressing the
PANIC button on your remote-control key.

gency. Press the PANIC button again to turn
off the alarm .
How is the anti-theft alarm switched off
when trigge red?
The alarm system is switched off when you
unlock the vehicle using the remote -control
key or when the ignition is switched on . T he
alarm will also switch itself off when it comes
to the end of its cycle .
Emergency flasher
The emergency flasher will blink briefly when
the doors, engine hood and rear lid a re prop­
erly closed.
If the emergency flashers do not blink, check
the doors, engine hood and rear lid to make
sure they are properly closed. If you close a
door, the hood or the rear lid with the anti ­
theft alarm sw itched on, the emergency flash­
ers will blink only after you have closed the
door or lid .
(!) Tips
For the anti-theft alarm system to func­
tion properly, make sure all veh icle doors
and windows are closed before leaving the
vehicle.

A WARNING
- Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can
result in starting of the engine and use
of vehicle systems such as power win­
dows, etc. which could resu lt in serious
injury.
- Remember -you can still open or close
the power w indows for about ten mi­
nutes after the ignition is sw itched off.
Only when e ithe r of the front doors a re
opened are the power windows switched
off.
- Be careful when closing the windows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- Always remove the ignition key whenever you leave your vehicle .
- If you lock your vehicle from the ou tside,
no one, especia lly children, sho uld re­
main in the vehicle.
- Do not stick anything on the windows o r
the windshield that may interfere with
the driver's fie ld of vision.
(D Tips
- When the doors are opened, the win­
dows are automatically lowered 10 mm .
- The windows can still be opened and
closed for about ten minutes after the
ignition has been turned off. The power
w indows are not shut off unt il one of the
front doors is opened.
Convenience close/open feature
You can close or open the windows from out­
side when you lock or unlock your car with the
key.

come back a while later and drive off, the rain
sensor will reactivate itself after the vehicle
speed has exceeded 4 mph (6 km/h).
The rain sensor* is only activated with the
wiper lever set to position(!). When it starts
to rain, the rain sensor will automatically acti­
vate the intermittent wiping mode.
To reduce the sensitivity of the sensor, move
switch @ down. To increase the sensitivity,
move the switch up. The higher you adjust the
sensitivity, the faster the sensor will react
when it senses moisture on the windshield. The pauses between wiper turns depend not
only on the sensitivity setting, but on the ve­
hicle speed as well.
During brief stops, e.g . at a red light, wiper
motion will automatically be reduced to the
next lower speed . Wipers already turning at
low speed change to intermittent wiping.
When the ignition is turned on, the washer
jets are heated .
A WARNING
-Wiper blades are crucial for safe driving!
Only when they are in good condition are
they able to clear the windows properly
to provide uncompromising visibility.
Worn or damaged wiper blades are a
safety hazard

- The light/rain sensor* is only designed to
assist and support the driver.
It remains
entirely the driver's responsibility to
monitor outside weather conditions and
to manually activate the wipers as soon
as rain or drizzle reduces visibility
through the windshield.
- The windshield must not be treated with
water-repellent materials. They can in­
crease glare under poor visibility condi­
tions such as wetness, darkness, or when
the sun is low on the horizon. In addi­
tion, they can cause the windshield wip­
ers to chatter.

@ Note
In freezing or near freezing conditions:
- Always check that the wiper blades are
not frozen to the glass before you turn
the wipers on. Loosen a wiper blade
which is frozen in place before operating
the wipers to prevent damage to the
wiper blade or the wiper motor.
- Do not use the wipers to clear a frosted
window. Using the wipers as a conven­ ient ice scraper will destroy the wiper
blades .
- Before you take your vehicle to an auto­
matic car wash, make sure you have the
windshield wiper system switched off (lever in position
0), otherwise the wind­
shield wiper system could get damaged
in the car wash if it should suddenly
come on.
@ Tips
-The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is turned off. Activate
the windshield wipers after the ignition
is switched back on by moving the wind­
shield wiper lever to any position.
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades
cause smearing, which can affect the op­
eration of the light/rain sensor*. Check
the condition of your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
-The rain sensor is part of the interval
wiping system. Turning off the ignition
will also deactivate the rain sensor. To re­
activate the sensor, switch off the inter­
val wiping function, then switch it back
on again.
-Applies to vehicles with light/rain sen­
sor: When the wipers are switched on
manually and in rain conditions, the au­
tomatic headlights* turn on

no longer operating. The automatic
headlights* function is available in this
case only when the light switch is in the
"AUTO" position¢

Rear seats
General information
Safe transportation of passengers on the rear
seats requires proper safety precautions .

A ll passengers on the rear seats must be sea t­
ed in compliance w ith the sa fety guidelines
explained in
c::> page 100 and c::> page 108.
The correct seating position is critical for the
safety of front
and rear seat passengers alike
c::> page 93.
A WARNING
,--
- Occupants in the front and rear seats
must always be properly restrained.
- Persons taller than 4 feet 11 inches
(1. 50 m) must never sit in the rear seat
area . The rear passenger compartment is
too small for passenger taller than 4 feet 11 inches
(1. 50 m).
- The minimum clearance between the
passenge rs' heads and the rear window
must never, under any circumstances, be
less than 1 inc h (2.5 cm) with the pas­
sengers sit ting fully upright. Ta ller per­
sons, as well as children on booster seats
who are too close to the rear window, can suffer severe head and neck injuries
when the rear lid is closed or if a crash
occurs. Always make sure that rear seat
passengers ca nnot be struck when the
rear lid is closed .
- When the rear backrest is folded down
do not allow passengers to occupy the
load surface available while the vehicle is
in motion. Vehicle occupa nts must al­
ways be properly restrained. -
Never store any heavy, hard objects on
the rear lid cover. This can be hazardous
for rear seat occupants if the rear lid is
opened or if the vehicle is braked sud­
denly or in the event of a crash .
- Loose items inside the passenger com­
partment, can fly forward in a crash or
sudden maneuver and injure occupants .
Always sto re a rticles in the luggage com­
pa rtment and use the faste ning eyes, es­
pecia lly when the rea r seatbacks have
been fo lded down.
- Read and heed all WARN INGS

Rear window shelf '
You can place light articles of clothing on the
rear window shelf behind the seatback .
A WARNING ~ -
Whenever you are driving, do not leave any
hard objects on the rear window shelf or
a llow your pet to sit on the she lf. These
could become a hazard for veh icle occu­
pants in the event of sudden brak ing or a
crash!
(i) Tips
- A vent slot is located between the shelf
and the rear w indow. Do not block the
vent with any items you may place on the
rear window she lf.
- Do not place bu lky items on the rear win­
dow shelf as they wou ld restr ict or block
the driver's vision t hrough the rear view
m irror .
