DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
(DTCs)
Below is a listing of E39 powertrain (automatic transmission

SAE P-codes, the corresponding BMW fault
codes, and the fault code definitions.
BMW fault codes expand on the SAE sanctioned DTCs and
are accessible primarily through the BMW diagnostic scan
tool or a BMW-specific scan tool.
