other things.
Carbon body The vehicle consists of two different functional
units: the drive module made from aluminum
and the life module made from carbon fiber reâ
inforced plastic (carbon).

DisplaysVehicle features and optionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-
specific and optional features offered with the
series. It also describes features that are not
necessarily available in your car, e. g., due to
the selected options or country versions. Thisalso applies to safety-related functions and
systems.
Instrument cluster
The concept
The instrument cluster is a variable display.
Some of the displays in the instrument cluster
may differ from the way they are shown in this
Owner's Handbook. If the program is changed or the Sport program
activated via the Driving Dynamics Control, the
display rendition adapts to the respective proâ
gram.

Adapting to the course of the road
When the navigation system destination guidâ
ance is active, hybrid operation adapts to speâ
cific route sections.
Use of the hybrid system is optional.
Symbols in the energy flow display indicate
that a situation has been detected ahead and
hybrid operation is prepared for it.

Check Control
The concept The Check Control system monitors functions
in the vehicle and notifies you of malfunctions
in the monitored systems.
A Check Control message is displayed as a
combination of indicator or warning lights and
text messages in the instrument cluster and in
the Head-up Display.
In addition, an acoustic signal may sound and a text message may appear on the Control Disâ
play.
Indicator/warning lights
General information
The indicator and warning lights in the instruâ
ment cluster can light up in a variety of combiâ
nations and colors.
Several lights indicate function checks and
light up only temporarily when drive readiness
or operating readiness are activated.
Red lights Airbag system Airbag system and belt tensioner are
defective.
Have the vehicle checked by the servâ
ice center immediately.

Speed limit detection
The concept
Speed limit detection
Speed limit detection uses a symbol in the
shape of a traffic sign to display the currently
detected speed limit. The camera in the area of
the interior rearview mirror detects traffic signs
at the edge of the road as well as variable overâ
head sign posts. Traffic signs with extra symâ
bols for wet road conditions, etc. are also deâ
tected and compared with the vehicle's
onboard data, such as for the rain sensor, and
will be displayed depending on the situation.
The system takes into account the information
stored in the navigation system and also disâ
plays speed limits present on routes without
signs.
Hints Personal judgment
The system cannot serve as a substitute
for the driver's personal judgment of the traffic
situation.
The system assists the driver and does not reâ
place the human eye.â

Camera
The camera is found near the interior rearview
mirror.
Keep the windshield in the area behind the inâ
terior rearview mirror clean and clear.

Speed limit detection can also be displayed in
the Head-up Display.
System limits The system may not be fully functional and
may provide incorrect information in the folâ
lowing situations:â·In heavy fog, rain or snowfall.â·When signs are concealed by objects.â·When driving very close to the vehicle in
front of you.â·When driving toward bright lights.â·When the windshield behind the interior
rearview mirror is fogged over, dirty or covâ
ered by a sticker, etc.â·In the event of incorrect detection by the
camera.â·If the speed limits stored in the navigation
system are incorrect.â·In areas not covered by the navigation sysâ
tem.â·When roads differ from the navigation,
such as due to changes in road routing.â·When passing buses or trucks with a
speed sticker.â·If the traffic signs are non-conforming.â·During calibration of the camera immediâ
ately after vehicle shipment.
Selection lists in the
instrument cluster
The concept Depending on your vehicle's optional features,
the following can be displayed or operated usâ
ing the buttons and the thumbwheel on the
steering wheel as well as the displays in the inâ
strument cluster and the Head-up Display:
â·Current audio source.â·Redial phone feature.â·Turn on voice activation system.
It also displays programs of the Driving Dyâ
namics Control.
Display
Depending on your vehicle's optional features,
the list in the instrument cluster can differ from
the illustration shown.
Activating a list and adjusting the
setting
On the right side of the steering wheel, turn
the thumbwheel to activate the corresponding
list.
Using the thumbwheel, select the desired setâ
ting and confirm it by pushing the thumbwheel.

You can select what information from the comâ
puter is to be displayed in the instrument clusâ
ter.
On the Control Display:

Total range The total range considers the
capacity of the fuel tank as well
as the electric energy in the
high-voltage battery.
Average fuel consumption
The average fuel consumption is calculated on
the basis of various distances. Standstill with
drive readiness turned off is not considered.
Current fuel consumption Displays the current energy consumption. The
efficiency of the driving can be monitored.
Average speed
Periods when vehicle is parked with drive readâ
iness switched off are not included when calâ
culating average speed.
Resetting average values Press and hold the onboard computer button
on the turn signal lever.
Time of arrival
The estimated time of arrival is displayed if a
destination is entered in the navigation system
before the trip is started.
The time must be correctly set.
Distance to destination
The distance remaining to the destination is
displayed if a destination is entered in the naviâ
gation system before the trip is started.
The distance to the destination is adopted auâ
tomatically.

Head-up Display
The concept
This system projects important information
into the driver's field of vision, e.g., the speed.
The driver can get information without averting
his or her eyes from the road.
Display visibility The visibility of the displays in the Head-up
Display is influenced by the following factors:â·Certain sitting positions.â·Objects on the cover of the Head-up Disâ
play.â·Sunglasses with certain polarization filters.â·Wet roads.â·Unfavorable light conditions.
