Driving and Operating 317
The vehicle can tow in
D (Drive). Shift the
transmission to a lower gear if
the transmission shifts too
often under heavy loads and/
or hilly conditions.
When towing at higher
altitudes, engine coolant will
boil at a lower temperature
than at lower altitudes. If the
engine is turned off
immediately after towing at
high altitude on steep uphill
grades, the vehicle could show
signs similar to engine
overheating. To avoid this, let
the engine run, preferably on
level ground, with the
transmission in P (Park) for a
few minutes before turning
the engine off. If the overheat
warning comes on, see Engine
Overheating0342.Parking on Hills
{Warning
To prevent serious injury or
death, always park your
vehicle and trailer on a level
surface when possible.
When parking your vehicle and
your trailer on a hill: 1. Press the brake pedal, but do not shift into P (Park)
yet. Turn the wheels into
the curb if facing downhill
or into traffic if facing
uphill.
2. Have someone place chocks under the trailer
wheels.
3. When the wheel chocks are in place, gradually
release the brake pedal to
allow the chocks to absorb
the load of the trailer.
4. Reapply the brake pedal. Then apply the parking
brake and shift into
P (Park). 5. Release the brake pedal.
Leaving After Parking on
a Hill
1. Apply and hold the brake
pedal.
.Start the engine.
.Shift into the
desired gear.
.Release the parking
brake.
2. Let up on the brake pedal.
3. Drive slowly until the trailer is clear of the chocks.
4. Stop and have someone pick up and store the
chocks.
Maintenance When Trailer
Towing
The vehicle needs service
more often when used to tow
trailers. See Maintenance
Schedule 0425. It is especially
important to check the
automatic transmission fluid,
engine oil, axle lubricant, belts,

contamination can cause
damage to vehicle systems.
Do not allow contaminants
to contact the fluids,
reservoir caps, or dipsticks.
Hood
{Warning
For vehicles with auto
engine stop/start, turn the
vehicle off before opening
the hood. If the vehicle is on,
the engine will start when
the hood is opened. You or
others could be injured.
{Warning
Components under the hood
can get hot from running the
engine. To help avoid the
risk of burning unprotected
skin, never touch these
components until they have
cooled, and always use a
glove or towel to avoid
direct skin contact.
Clear any snow from the hood
before opening.
To open the hood: 1. Pull the hood release lever with the
isymbol. It is
on the lower left side of
the instrument panel.
2. Go to the front of the vehicle and locate the
secondary release lever
under the front center of
the hood. Push the
secondary hood release
lever to the right to
release.
3. After you have partially lifted the hood, the gas
strut system will
automatically lift the hood
and hold it in the fully open
position.

{Warning
The wrong or contaminated
brake fluid could result in
damage to the brake
system. This could result in
the loss of braking leading to
a possible injury. Always use
the proper GM approved
brake fluid.
Caution
If brake fluid is spilled on the
vehicle's painted surfaces,
the paint finish can be
damaged. Immediately wash
off any painted surface.
Battery - North
America
The original equipment battery
is maintenance free. Do not
remove the cap and do not
add fluid.Refer to the replacement
number on the original battery
label when a new battery is
needed. For replacement of
the battery, see your dealer.
The vehicle has an Absorbent
Glass Mat (AGM) 12-volt
battery. Installation of a
standard 12-volt battery will
result in reduced 12-volt
battery life.
When using a 12-volt battery
charger on the 12-volt AGM
battery, some chargers have
an AGM battery setting on the
charger. If available, use the
AGM setting on the charger,
to limit charge voltage to
14.8 volts.

2. Locate the fuse puller inthe engine compartment
fuse block.3. Use the fuse puller toremove the fuse from the
top or side, as shown
above.
4. If the fuse must be replaced immediately,
borrow a replacement fuse
with the same amperage

safely operate the vehicle.
Repeat Steps 2-3.
5. Insert the replacement fuse into the empty slot of
the blown fuse.
At the next opportunity, see
your dealer to replace the
blown fuse.
Headlamp Wiring
An electrical overload may
cause the lamps to go on and
off, or in some cases to remain
off. Have the headlamp wiring
checked right away if the
lamps go on and off or
remain off.
Windshield Wipers
If the wiper motor overheats
due to heavy snow or ice, the
windshield wipers will stop
until the motor cools and will
then restart.
Although the circuit is
protected from electrical
overload, overload due to
heavy snow or ice may cause
wiper linkage damage. Always
clear ice and heavy snow from
the windshield before using
the windshield wipers.
If the overload is caused by an
electrical problem and not
snow or ice, be sure to get it
fixed.
Fuses and Circuit
Breakers
The wiring circuits in the
vehicle are protected from
short circuits by a combination
of fuses and circuit breakers.
This greatly reduces the
chance of damage caused by
electrical problems.

Tires
Every new GM vehicle has
high-quality tires made by a
leading tire manufacturer.
See the warranty manual
for information regarding
the tire warranty and
where to get service. For
additional information refer
to the tire manufacturer.
{Warning
.Poorly maintained and
improperly used tires
are dangerous.
.Overloading the tires
can cause overheating
as a result of too much
flexing. There could be
a blowout and a serious
crash. See Vehicle Load

reached the level to trigger
illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been
equipped with a TPMS
malfunction indicator to
indicate when the system is
not operating properly. The
TPMS malfunction indicator is
combined with the low tire
pressure telltale. When the
system detects a malfunction,
the telltale will flash for
approximately one minute and
then remain continuously
illuminated. This sequence will
continue upon subsequent
vehicle start-ups as long as
the malfunction exists.
When the malfunction
indicator is illuminated, the
system may not be able to
detect or signal low tire
pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a
variety of reasons, including
the installation of replacement
or alternate tires or wheels on
the vehicle that prevent theTPMS from functioning
properly. Always check the
TPMS malfunction telltale
after replacing one or more
tires or wheels on your vehicle
to ensure that the
replacement or alternate tires
and wheels allow the TPMS to
continue to function properly.
See Tire Pressure Monitor
Operation
0376.
See Radio Frequency
Statement 0446.
Tire Pressure Monitor
Operation
This vehicle may have a Tire
Pressure Monitor System
(TPMS). The TPMS is designed
to warn the driver when a low
tire pressure condition exists.
TPMS sensors are mounted
onto each tire and wheel
assembly, excluding the spare
tire and wheel assembly. The
TPMS sensors monitor the air
pressure in the tires and transmit the tire pressure
readings to a receiver located
in the vehicle.
When a low tire pressure
condition is detected, the
TPMS illuminates the low tire
pressure warning light on the
instrument cluster. If the
warning light comes on, stop
as soon as possible and inflate
the tires to the recommended
pressure shown on the Tire
and Loading Information label.
See Vehicle Load Limits
0242.
A message to check the
pressure in a specific tire
displays in the Driver
Information Center (DIC). The
low tire pressure warning light
and the DIC warning message
come on at each ignition cycle
until the tires are inflated to
the correct inflation pressure.
