When your vehicle is being towed, have the ignition key off. The steering
wheel should be clamped in a straight-ahead position with a clamping device
designed for a towing service. Do not use the vehicle's steeri\
ng column
lock for this. The transmission (either automatic or manual) should\
be in
N (Neutral) and the transfer case (either manual shift or elec\
tronic shift), if
you have one, should be in 2 WHEEL (two-wheel drive). The parking brake
should be released.
Don't have your vehicle towed on the rear (drive) wheels, un\
less you have
to,
If the vehicle must be towed on the rear wheels, don't go more than 35 mph
(56 km/h) or farther than 50 miles (80 km) or your transmission will be
damaged.
If these limits must be exceeded, then the rear drive wheels have\
to be supported on a dolly.
If your vehicle has the four-wheel-drive option, a dolly
MUST be used under
the rear wheels when towing from the front.

A rear blowout, particularly on a curve, acts much like a skid and may,
require the same correction you'd use in a skid. In any rear blowout, remove
your foot from the accelerator pedal. Get the vehicle under co\
ntrol by steering
the way you want the vehicle
to go. It may be very bumpy and noisy, but
you can still steer. Gently brake
to a stop, well off the road if possible.
If your tire goes flat, the next part shows how to use your jac\
king equipment
to change a flat tire safely.
Changing a Flat Tire
If a tire goes flat, avoid further tire and wheel damage by driving slowly to a
level place. Turn on your hazard warning flashers.
I CAUTION I
A Changing a tire can cause an injury. The vehicle can slip off the jack
A and roll over you or other people. You and they coulld be badly
injured. Fin'd a level place to change your tire. To help prevent the
vehicle from moving:
I. Set the parking brake firmly.
2. Put the shift lever in P (Park).
3. Shift a manual transmission to 1 (First) or R (Reverse).
4. If you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle with a manu'al transfer
case
shift lever, be sure the transfer case is in a drive
gear-not
in ' N (Neutral).
5- Turn off the engine.
To be even more certain the. vehick won't move, you can put blocks
at
the front and rear of the tire farthest away from the one being
changed. That would be the tire
on the other side of the vehicle, at
the opposite end.

The equipment you'll need is behind the seat. Your spare tire is stowed under
the truck.

Jack Storage
Your jack, wheel wrench and wheel blocks are stored behind the front seats,
either on the center wall or along the right wall.
To remove your jack cover,
if you have one, turn the plastic wing nut to the
left until you can pull it out. Remove the jack cover.

Tighten the wheel nuts firmly in a criss-cross sequence as shown. Remove
the wheel blocks.
A
Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly tightened wheel nuts can cause
the wheel to become loose and even come
off. This could lead to
an accident. Be sure to use the correct wheel nuts. If you have to
replace them, be sure
to get the right kind.
Stop somewhere as soon as you can and have the nuts tightened
with
a torque wrench to 95 ft. Ibs. (1 30 N.m ).
Storing The Tire in The Underbody Carrier
Put the tire on the ground at the rear of the vehicle, with the valve stem
pointed down and to the rear.
Pull the retaining bar through the wheel. Put the chisel end
of the wheel
wrench, on an angle, through the hole in the rear bumper and into the hoist
shaft. Turn the wheel wrench clockwise until the tire is raised against the
underside of the vehicle.
You will hear two “clicks” when the tire is secure,
but pull on the tire to
make sure.

Return the jack, wheel wrench and wheel blocks to the proper \
location behind
the seat. Secure the items and replace the jack cover.
Storing a jack, a tire, or other equipment in the passenger
compartment of the vehicle could cause injury. In a sudden stop or
collision, loose equipment could strike someone. Store all these\
in
I the proper place.
Compact Spare (If So Equipped)
Although your compact spare was fully inflated when the vehicle\
was new,
it can lose air over time. Check its inflation pressure regularly.\
It should be
60 psi (420 kPa). The compact spare is made to go up to 3,000 miles
(5000 km), so you can finish your trip and get a new tire where you want.
Of course, it's best to replace your spare with
a full-size tire as soon as you
can. Your spare will last longer and be in good shape in case you ever need
it again.

To take off the cap, turn it slowly to the left (counterclockwise).
CAUTION
If you get gawline on you and then1 something1 ignites it, you lcould
be badly burned. Easolli’ne can spray out on you if you open the fuel
filler cap too quickly. This spray can happen if your tank is ne,arly
fiulll, and is momre likely in hot weather. Open the fu~el filler cap slbwly
an8d
warit for any “’hiss” mise to stop.
Then unscrew
the cap all the way. I
When you put the cap back on, turn it to the right until you hear a clicking
