Understanding Radio Reception
F” Stereo
FM stereo will give you the best sound,
but FM signals will reach only about 10 to
40 miles (16 to 65 km). And, tall
buildings or hills can interfere with
FM signals, causing the sound to come
and go.
AM
The range for most AM stations is
greater than for FM, especially at night.
The longer range, however, can cause
stations to interfere with each other.
AM can pick up noise from things like storms and power lines. Try reducing
the treble to reduce this noise if you
ever get it.
Care of Your Cassette Tape
Player
A tape player that is not cleaned
regularly can cause reduced sound
quality, ruined cassettes, or a damaged
mechanism. Cassette tapes should be
stored in their cases away from
contaminants, direct sunlight, and
extreme heat. If they aren’t, they may
not operate properly or cause failure of
the tape player.
Your tape player should be cleaned
regularly each month or after every
15
hours of use. If you notice a reduction
in sound quality,
try a known good
cassette to see if the tape or the tape
player is at fault. If this other cassette
has no improvement in sound quality,
clean the tape player.

3. Turn off the ignition on both
vehicles. Turn
off all lights that
aren’t needed, and radios. This will
avoid sparks and help save both
batteries. And
it could save your
radio!
f you leave your radio on, it
ould be badly damaged.

CA UTiON
A An electric fan can start up
- even when the engine is not
running and
can injure you. Keep
hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.
Find the positive
(+) and negative
(-) terminals on each battery. Using
a match near
a battery
can cause battery gas to
explode. People
have been hurt
doing this, and some have been
blinded. Use a flashlight if
you
need more light.
Be sure the battery has enough
water. You don’t need to add
water to the Delco Freedom*
battery installed
in every new GM
vehicle. But if a battery has filler
caps, be sure the right amount of
fluid is there. If it is low, add
water
to take care of that first. If
you don’t, explosive gas could be
present.
Battery fluid contains acid that can
burn you. Don’t get
it on you. If
you accidentally get
it in your eyes
or on your skin, flush the place
with water and get medical help
immediately.

Look at the silver-colored band inside
the fuse.
If the band is broken or
melted, replace the fuse. Be sure you
replace a bad fuse with a new
one of the
correct size.
If you ever have a problem on the road
and don't have a spare fuse, you can
borrow one. Just pick some feature of
your car that
you can get along without
- like the radio or cigarette lighter -
and use its fuse, if it is the size you
need. Replace it as soon as you can.
Before replacing a fuse turn every
vehicle electrical switch off.
