CHECKING THE LEVELS
Dipstick
Oil change
According to the information given in
the servicing booklet.
Note: a v o i d u s e d o i l c o m i n g i n t o
prolonged contact with the skin.
E m p t y t h e u s e d o i l i n t o t h e c o n t a i n -
e r s i n t e n d e d f o r t h i s p u r p o s e i n t h e
CITROËN network. Viscosity selection
I n a l l c a s e s , t h e o i l s e l e c t e d m u s t m e e t
t h e m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s r e q u i r e m e n t s .
Note: the coolant does not need to
be changed.
For vehicles equipped with a parti-
c l e fi l t e r , t h e e n g i n e f a n m a y o p e r a t e
after the ignition has been switched
o f f , e v e n w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s c o l d .
There are two marks
on the dipstick:
A = m a x i m u m
N e v e r fi l l p a s t t h i s
mark.
B = m i n i m u m
To maintain the reliability
of engines and emission
c o n t r o l s y s t e m s , t h e u s e
of addi-tives in engine oil
is prohibited. Brake fluid level:
T h e b r a k e fl u i d m u s t b e c h a n g e d
a c c o r d i n g t o t h e m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s s e r -
v i c i n g s c h e d u l e .
U s e fl u i d s r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
m a n u f a c t u r e r , w h i c h f u l fi l D O T 4
standards.

and very corrosive. Avoid all contact
with the skin.
C o o l i n g s y s t e m
U s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
m a n u f a c t u r e r .
When the engine is warm, the tem-
p e r a t u r e o f t h e c o o l a n t i s c o n t r o l l e d
by the engine fan. As this fan can op-
erate with the ignition key removed
a n d b e c a u s e t h e c o o l i n g s y s t e m i s
p r e s s u r i s e d , w a i t f o r a t l e a s t o n e h o u r
after the engine has stopped before
c a r r y i n g o u t a n y w o r k .
S l a c k e n t h e c a p b y t w o t u r n s t o r e -
l e a s e t h e p r e s s u r e t o p r e v e n t a n y
r i s k o f s c a l d i n g . W h e n t h e p r e s s u r e
has dropped, remove the cap and
t o p u p t h e l e v e l . Used oil

Power steering reservoir
Open the reservoir, with the
e n g i n e a t a m b i e n t t e m p e r a t u r e .

the MIN. mark and close to the
MAX. mark.
W i n d s c r e e n a n d h e a d l a m p
wash level
F o r b e s t q u a l i t y c l e a n i n g a n d f o r

F o r o p t i m u m c l e a n i n g a n d t o p r e v e n t

u p o r r e p l a c e d w i t h w a t e r .
Oil level
C h e c k t h e l e v e l r e g u l a r l y a n d
t o p u p b e t w e e n c h a n g e s . T h e
m a x i m u m c o n s u m p t i o n i s 0 . 5 l
per 600 miles (1 000 km).
Check the level with the vehicle level,
e n g i n e c o l d , u s i n g t h e o i l l e v e l g a u g e
o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l o r t h e d i p s t i c k .

A b o v e 1 0 0 0 m e t r e s , t h e m a x i m u m

and so on for every 1 000 metres of
a l t i t u d e . Driving advice
Distribution of loads: D i s t r i b u t e t h e
load in the trailer so that the heaviest
items are as close as possible to the
axle and the nose weight approaches
t h e m a x i m u m p e r m i t t e d w i t h o u t e x -
ceeding it. Tyres:
C h e c k t h e t y r e p r e s s u r e s o f
the towing vehicle and of the trailer,
observing the recommended pres-
s u r e s .
Braking: Towing increases the brak-
ing distance.
Lights: Check the electrical signalling
on the trailer.
Side wind: T a k e i n t o a c c o u n t t h e
increased sensitivity to side wind.
Cooling: Towing a trailer on a slope
i n c r e a s e s t h e t e m p e r a t u r e o f t h e
coolant.
As the fan is electrically controlled,
its cooling capacity is not dependent
on the engine speed.
O n t h e c o n t r a r y , u s e a h i g h g e a r t o
l o w e r t h e e n g i n e s p e e d a n d r e d u c e
y o u r s p e e d .
T h e m a x i m u m t o w i n g l o a d o n a l o n g
slope depends on the gradient and
t h e o u t s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e .
In all cases, pay attention to the coolant
t e m p e r a t u r e .
I n c e r t a i n c a s e s o f p a r t i c u l a r l y a r d u o u s
u s e ( t o w i n g t h e m a x i m u m l o a d o n a
s t e e p g r a d i e n t i n h i g h t e m p e r a t u r e s ) ,
switching off the air conditioning per-
mits the recovery of engine power
and therefore an increase in the tow-
ing capacity.
If the warning light comes on, stop
the vehicle and switch off the engine
as soon as possible.
