The TRC and DSC systems offer increased safety in normal driving, but
s
hould not encourage the driver to take
e
xtra risks or drive at high speed.
The correct operation of these
systems
depends on observation of
t
he
ma
nufacturer's
r
ecommendations
r
egarding the wheels (tyres and rims),
t
he braking components, the electronic
c
omponents and the assembly and
r
epair procedures used by CITROËN
d
ealers.
After
an impact, have the system
c
hecked by a CITROËN dealer or a
q
ualified
w
orkshop.
Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle which is bogged down, stuck in snow, on soft
g
round...), it may be advisable to deactivate the
D
SC and TRC systems, so that the wheels can
s
pin freely and regain grip.
Operating fault
However, it is recommended that these systems be reactivated as soon as possible.
F

This
warning lamp comes on: the
T
RC system no longer acts on the
o
peration of the engine.
Reactivation
The TRC and DSC control systems are reactivated automatically every time the engine
i
s started. F
P
ress the button again to
r
eactivate it manually. Illumination
of this warning lamp, a
ccompanied by an audible signal,
i
ndicates a fault with the system.
Drive
carefully at reduced speed and contact
a
CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop to
h
ave the system checked.
Deactivation of the TRC system only

These

lamps
come

n:
the
TRC
and
DSC

ystems
no
longer
act
on

he
operation
of
the
engine. When
the TRC system only is deactivated, it is

eactivated as the vehicle's speed increases.
When
both the TRC and DSC systems are

eactivated, they do not reactivate themselves
e
ven if the speed of the vehicle increases.

Active City Brake
Active City B rake i s a d riving a ssistance s ystem t
hat aims to avoid a frontal collision or reduce
t
he speed of an impact if the driver does not
r
eact or reacts too late (brake application too
l
ate). This
system is designed to improve
d
riving safety.
It
remains the driver's responsibility to
c
ontinuously monitor the state of the
t
raffic and to assess the distances and
r
elative speeds of other vehicles.
Active
City Brake can in no
c
ircumstances replace the need for
v
igilance on the part of the driver.
Never
look at the laser sensor through
a
n optical instrument (magnifying glass,
m
icroscope...) at a distance of less than
1
0 centimetres: risk of eye injury.Automatic
braking occurs later than if
d
one by the driver, so as to intervene
o
nly when there is a high risk of
c
ollision.Principle
Using a laser sensor and a camera located at the top of the windscreen, this system detects
a
vehicle running in the same direction or
s
tationary ahead of your vehicle.
When
necessary, the vehicle's braking system
i
s operated automatically to reduce the speed
o
f impact or to help avoid a collision with the
v
ehicle
a
head.
Conditions for activation
Active City Brake only operates if the following
c onditions are met:
●
t
he engine is running,
●
t
he vehicle is in a for ward gear,
●
t
o trigger the pre-collision alert :
-
t
he speed is between 9 and 87 mph
(
15 and 140 km/h),
-
t
he difference in speed between your
v
ehicle and the one ahead is more than
a
bout 9 mph (15 km/h),
●
f
or braking assistance :
-
t
he speed is between about 18 and
5
0 mph (30 and 80 km/h),
-
t
he difference in speed between your
v
ehicle and the one ahead is more than
a
bout 18 mph (30 km/h),
●
f
or automatic pre-collision braking:
-
t
he speed is between about 6 and
5
0 mph (10 and 80 km/h),
-
t
he difference in speed between your
v
ehicle and the one ahead is more than
a
bout 6 mph (10 km/h),
●
t
he braking assistance systems (ABS,
E
BFD, EBA) are not faulty,
●
t
he trajectory control systems (TRC, DSC)
a
re not deactivated or faulty,
●
t
he vehicle is not in a tight corner,
●
t
he system has not been triggered during
t
he previous 10 seconds.

Operation
Three levels of operation are possible:
● P re-collision alert :
if a risk of collision w
ith a vehicle is detected, a warning lamp
c
omes on in the instrument panel together
w
ith an audible signal to encourage the
d
river to make an avoiding manoeuvre. The
t
hresholds for triggering the alert can be set.
●
Br
aking assistance :
increases the
b
raking started by the driver, only if a risk
o
f collision is detected.
●
A
utomatic pre-collision braking:
when
y
our vehicle is too close to or closing
t
oo quickly on the vehicle ahead of you,
t
he system automatically operates the
b
rakes to reduce the speed of impact. A
c
ollision can be avoided automatically if the
d
ifference in speed between your vehicle
a
nd
t
he
o
ne
a
head
i
s
n
ot
m
ore
t
han
1
8
m
ph
(
30 km/h).You
are then alerted by the display of
t
his warning lamp, accompanied by
a
n audible signal. The
automatic braking may bring the vehicle to a
complete stop if the situation requires it.
The
brake lamps on your vehicle come on to
w
arn other road users. The
triggering of the system may cause
t
he engine to stall, unless the driver
d
epresses the clutch pedal quickly
e
nough during automatic braking.

Setting the alert thresholds
Press this button repeatedly to cycle through the thresholds.
The
default setting is "Normal".
The
alert
thresholds determine how you want to be warned of the imminent risk of collision with the
v
ehicle
ahead of you.
You
can
choose one of three thresholds:
A.
"
Far",
to be given early warning (cautious driving).
B.
"
Normal".
C.
"
Close", for a later warning (sporty driving).
Deactivation / Reactivation
Press this button for more than 3 seconds.
P ress the button again to reactivate the system.
The
system is automatically reactivated every
t
ime the engine is started with the key or the
"
START/STOP" button.
This
indicator lamp comes on in the
in
strument
pan
el.
This
indicator lamp comes on in the
i
nstrument panel and the message
"
PCS OFF" is displayed.

Never leave accumulations of snow or any object projecting above the bonnet
o
r in front of the roof: this might fall into
t
he field of vision of the sensor and
g
enerate a detection.
Operating limits
The system o nly d etects v ehicles (cars, lorries) t
hat are stationary or moving in the same
d
irection as your vehicle. In
difficult weather conditions (very
h
eavy rain, snow, fog, hail...), braking
d
istances increase, which can reduce
t
he ability of the system to avoid a
c
ollision.
The
driver must therefore remain
par
ticularly
v
igilant.
The
system is not triggered or is interrupted if
t
he
d
river:
-
a
ccelerates strongly (even if the speed
l
imiter is on),
-
o
r turns the steering wheel suddenly
(
avoiding
m
anoeuvre).
Detection
capability is less effective if:
-
y
ou are driving on roads with pronounced
b
ends and/or on roads in poor condition,
-
y
our vehicle is excessively loaded, as
t
his changes the horizontal attitude of the
v
ehicle.
-
y
our vehicle skids.
It
does not detect small vehicles
(
bicycles, motorcycles), pedestrians or
a
nimals, nor non-reflective stationary
ob
jects.Unwanted triggering of the system
It is possible for the system to detect a risk of imminent collision and start working, in the
fo
llowing
c
onditions
in par
ticular:
-
d
etection of an object located close to the
e
dge of the road entering a corner (safety
b
arrier, lamp post or road sign),
-
d
etection of a structure located at the top
o
r bottom of a steep slope (advertising
h
oarding, steet lighting),
-
d
etection of reflective objects (central
r
eservation...) in the road,
-
d
etection of the upper bar of a bridge or a
t
raffic light gantry,
-
p
assing a vehicle travelling in the other
d
irection in a corner,
-
p
assing a vehicle traveling in the other
d
irection, at a crossroads, when your
v
ehicle is turning left or right,
-
i
f the vehicle ahead of you sends up water
o
r snow,
-
i
f your vehicle stops very close to an
ov
erhanging wall or other vehicles,
-
w
hen your vehicle closes rapidly on the
v
ehicle
a
head,
-
i
f the vehicle is raised or lowered,
-
i
f the vehicle passes through a plastic
c
urtain,
-
i
f driving through mist or smoke,
-
i
f the sensor is misaligned (following
r
eplacement after a collision).

Operating faults
Sensor fault
The operation of the laser sensor may suffer inter ference from accumulations of dirt or
m
isting of the windscreen or the presence of
a
n object causing an obstruction (e.g.: bonnet
ope
n). In
this case you are warned by the
d
isplay of this flashing warning lamp
i
n the instrument panel.
Use
the windscreen demisting and regularly
c
lean the area of the windscreen in front of the
sen
sor.Do
not stick or other wise fix any object
o
n the windscreen in front of the sensor.
System fault
In the event of a malfunction of the system, you are warned by the
d
isplay of this flashing warning lamp
i
n the instrument panel.
Have
the
system checked by a CITROËN
d
ealer
or
a qualified workshop.
In
the event of an impact to the
w
indscreen at the sensor, deactivate
t
he
system and contact a CITROËN
d
ealer or a qualified workshop to have
y
our windscreen replaced.
Never
try to remove, adjust or test the
sen
sor.
Only
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
w
orkshop is able to work on the system.

Seat belts
Front seat belts
Fastening

The
front
seat
belts
are
fitted
with
a
p
retensioning
and
force
limiting
system.
This
system
improves
safety
in
the
front
s
eats
in
the
event
of
a
front
or
side
impact.
D
epending
on
the
severity
of
the
impact,
the
p
retensioning
system
instantly
tightens
the
seat
b
elts
against
the
body
of
the
occupants.
The
pretensioning
seat
belts
are
active
when
t
he
ignition
is
on.
The
force
limiter
reduces
the
pressure
of
the
s
eat belt on the chest of the occupant, so
improving
their
protection.
Rear seat belts
The rear seats are each fitted with a three-point s eat belt.

load
on

seat,

the

on.
Front seat belt(s) warning lamp
The warning lamp 1 comes on in the instrument p anel if the front seat belt is not fastened or is
u
nfastened.
From
about 12 mph (20 km/h) and for about
30
seconds, illumination of the warning lamp is
a
ccompanied by an audible signal.
Beyond
this time, if the seat belt is still not
f
astened, the tone of the audible signal
c
hanges and remains active for about a further
9
0 seconds.

The driver must ensure that passengers use the seat belts correctly and that they are all
f
astened before setting off.
Wherever
you are seated in the vehicle,
a
lways fasten your seat belt, even for short
journeys.
Do
not interchange the seat belt buckles as
t
hey will not fulfil their role fully.
The
seat belts are fitted with an inertia reel
p
ermitting automatic adjustment of the
l
ength of the strap to your size. The seat belt
i
s stowed automatically when not in use.
Before
and after use, ensure that the seat
b
elt is reeled in correctly.
The
lower part of the strap must be
p
ositioned as low as possible on the pelvis.
The
upper part must be positioned in the
h
ollow of the shoulder.
The
inertia reels are fitted with an automatic
l
ocking device which comes into operation in
t
he event of a collision, emergency braking
o
r if the vehicle rolls over. You can release
t
he device by pulling the strap firmly and
t
hen releasing it so that it reels in slightly.Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less than 12 years old or shorter than one
a
nd a half metres.
Never
use the same seat belt to secure more
t
han one person.
Never
allow a child to travel on your lap.
For
more information on child seats, refer to
t
he corresponding section.
In
order
to
be
effective,
a
seat
belt
must:
-
b
e
tightened
as
close
to
the
body
as
p
ossible,
-
b
e
pulled
in
front
of
you
with
a
smooth
m
ovement,
checking
that
it
does
not
t
wist,
-
b
e
used
to
restrain
only
one
person,
-
n
ot
bear
any
trace
of
cuts
or
fraying,
-
n
ot
be
converted
or
modified
to
avoid
a
ffecting
it
s
p
erformance.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and
seriousness of the impact , the
pretensioning
device may be deployed
b
efore and independently of the airbags.
D
eployment of the pretensioners is
a
ccompanied by a slight discharge of
h
armless smoke and a noise, due to the
a
ctivation of the pyrotechnic cartridge
i
ncorporated in the system.
In
all cases, the airbag warning lamp
c
omes on.
Following
an impact, have the seat belts
s
ystem checked, and if necessary replaced,
b
y a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
w
orkshop.
In
accordance
with
current
safety
r
egulations,
for
all
repairs
on
your
vehicle's
s
eat
belts,
go
to
a
qualified
workshop
with
t
he
skills
and
equipment
needed,
which
a
C
ITROËN
dealer
is
able
to
provide.
Have
your
seat
belts
checked
regularly
by
a
CITROËN
dealer
or
a
qualified
workshop,
p
articularly
if
the
straps
show
signs
of
d
amage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water
or
a
textile
cleaning
product,
sold
by
C
ITROËN
dealers.
After
folding
or
moving
a
seat
or
rear
bench
s
eat,
ensure
that
the
seat
belt
is
positioned
a
nd
reeled
in
correctly.

Airbags
Designed to contribute towards the safety of the occupants in the event of violent collisions.
T
he airbags supplement the action of the force-
limiting
seat belts.
If
a collision occurs, the electronic detectors
r
ecord and analyse the front and side impacts
s
ustained in the impact detection zones:
-
i
n the case of a serious impact, the airbags
a
re deployed instantly and contribute
t
owards better protection of the occupants
o
f the vehicle; immediately after the impact,
t
he airbags deflate rapidly so that they
d
o not hinder visibility or the exit of the
o
ccupants,
-
i
n the case of a minor or rear impact or in
c
ertain roll-over conditions, the airbags
m
ay not be deployed; the seat belt alone
c
ontributes towards providing your
p
rotection in these situations.
The airbags do not operate when the
ignition is switched off. The
deployment of an airbag is
a
ccompanied by a slight emission
o
f smoke and a noise, due to the
d
etonation of the pyrotechnic charge
i
ncorporated in the system.
This
smoke is not harmful, but sensitive
i
ndividuals may experience slight
ir
ritation.
The
detonation noise associated with
t
he deployment of an airbag may result
i
n a slight loss of hearing for a short
t
ime.
This
equipment will only deploy once.
I
f a second impact occurs (during the
s
ame or a subsequent accident), the
a
irbag will not be deployed again.

Front airbags
Deployment
The airbags are deployed, except the passenger's front airbag if it is deactivated, in the e
vent of a serious front impact to all or part of the
f
ront impact zone A,
in the longitudinal centreline
o
f the vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed
f
rom the front to the rear of the vehicle.
The
front airbag inflates between the thorax and
h
ead of the front occupant of the vehicle and the
s
teering wheel, driver's side, and the dashboard,
p
assenger's side to cushion their for ward
m
ovement.
System
which protects the driver and front
p
assenger in the event of a serious front impact
i
n order to limit the risk of injury to the head and
t
horax.
The driver's airbag is fitted in the centre of the
s
teering wheel; the front passenger's airbag is
f
itted in the dashboard above the glove box.
