Front
foglamps fi x e d . The front foglamps are
switched on. Turn the ring on the stalk rearwards twice to swit
ch
off the front foglamps.
Rear
foglamps fi x e d . The rear foglamps are
switched on. Turn the ring on the stalk rearwards to switch off
the rear foglamps.
Diesel engine
pre-heating fi x e d . The ignition switch is at the
2nd position (ignition on). Wait until the warning lamp has switched off befor
e starting.
The duration for which the warning lamp is on is d etermined
by the climatic conditions.
Parking brake fi x e d . The parking brake is applied
or not properly released. Release the parking brake to switch off the warnin
g
lamp, keeping your foot on the brake pedal.
Observe the safety recommendations.
For further information on the parking brake, refe r to
the "Driving" section.
Engine
coolant
temperature fi x e d b l u e . On starting the engine, it
indicates that the engine is
cold. After a few minutes driving, it swiches off to
indicate that the engine temperature is normal.
In order to protect your engine, avoid driving too
hard until the warning lamp has switched off.
Passenger’s
airbag
system fi x e d . The control switch, located
at the driver’s end of the
dashboard, is in the
"
ON
"
position.
The passenger’s front airbag
is activated.
In this case, do not install a
rear-facing child seat. Turn the control switch to the
"
OFF
" position to
deactivate the front passenger’s airbag.
In this case you can install a rear-facing child
seat.
The passenger’s airbag system is automatically
put into service on starting the vehicle ( "
ON
" posi-
tion).
Electric child
lock temporarily. The electric child lock is ac-
tivated. Displayed for a few seconds after activating the
function and every time the ignition is switched on
.

Deactivation indicator lamps

This is may be accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction screen.

Passenger’s
airbag
system fi x e d . The control switch, located
at the driver’s end of the
dashboard, is set to the
"OFF
" position.
The passenger’s front airbag
is deactivated.
In this case you can install a
"rear facing" child seat. Set the control switch to the
"ON" position to acti-
vate the passenger’s front airbag. In this case, do
n o t fi t a c h i l d s e a t i n t h e r e a r - f a c i n g p o s i t i o n .
The passenger’s airbag system is put into service
automatically when the vehicle is started ( "ON"
position).
ESP/ASR fi x e d . The button, located in the
middle of the dashboard, is
pressed. Its indicator lamp
is on.
The ESP/ASR is deactivated.
ESP: electronic stability pro-
gramme.
ASR: anti-skid regulation. Press the button to activate the ESP/ASR. Its
indicator lamp switches off.
The ESP/ASR system is activated automatically
when the vehicle is started.
If deactivated, the system is reactivated automati-
cally from approximately 30 mph (50 km/h).

This lamp comes on for a few
seconds when you turn on the
ignition, then switches off. This lamp should switch off when the engine is
started.
If it does not switch off, contact a CITROËN
dealer.

The driver must ensure that passen-
gers use the seat belts correctly and
that they are all restrained securely
before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n -
ertia reel permitting automatic adjust-
ment of the length of the strap to your
size. The seat belt is stored automa-
tically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n
automatic locking device which
comes into operation in the event
of a collision, emergency braking or
if the vehicle rolls over. You can re-
l e a s e t h e d e v i c e b y p u l l i n g fi r m l y o n
the strap and releasing it so that it
re-winds slightly. In order to be effective, a seat belt
must:
- be tightened as close to the body
as possible,
- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that
it does not twist,
-
be used to restrain only one person,
- not bear any trace of cuts or fra- ying,
- n o t b e c o n v e r t e d o r m o d i fi e d t o avoid affecting its performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a CITROËN
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regularly
by a CITROËN dealer and particularly if
the straps show signs of damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by CITROËN dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and reeled in correctly. Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
shorter than one and a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to
secure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your
lap.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air-
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a CITROËN dealer.

AIRBAGS
Deployment of the airbag(s) is ac-
companied by a slight emission of
harmless smoke and a noise, due to
the activation of the pyrotechnic car-
tridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sen-
sitive individuals may experience
slight irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for
a short time.
Front airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous front impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the head and chest.
The driver’s airbag is incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel; the
front passenger’s airbag is incorporated
in the dashboard above the glove box.
Activation
The airbags are triggered simultaneous-
ly, unless the passenger’s front airbag
is deactivated, in the event of a serious
front impact applied to all or part of the
front impact zone A , in the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
The airbags do not operate when
the ignition is switched off.
This equipment will only deploy
once. If a second impact occurs
(during the same or a subsequent
accident), the airbag will not be de-
ployed again.
System designed to maximise the safety
of the occupants (with the exception of
the rear centre passenger) in the event
of violent collisions. It supplements the
action of the force-limiting seat belts
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic de-
tectors record and analyse the front and
side impacts sustained in the impact
detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the
airbags are deployed instantly and
protect the occupants of the vehicle
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger); immediately after the
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y
so that they do not hinder visibility
or the exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the
airbags will not be deployed; the
s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o -
vide optimum protection in these
situations.

If at least one of the two airbag
warning lamps come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Operating fault If this warning lamp comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message on the multifunction
screen, contact a CITROËN dealer to
have the system checked. The airbags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
switch
1 to the "ON" position to reacti-
vate the airbag and so assure the safety
of your front passenger in the event of
an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing lamp comes on on the in-
strument panel or on the seat
belt and passenger’s front air-
bag warning lamp display for approxi-
mately one minute, if the passenger’s
front airbag is activated. To assure the safety of your child, it
is imperative that the passenger’s
front airbag is deactivated when
you install a "rearwards-facing"
child seat on the front passenger
seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
ing seriously injured or killed if the
airbag were triggered.
According to version, this warn-
ing lamp comes on either on
the instrument panel or on the
seat belt and passenger’s front
airbag warning lamp display when the
ignition is on and until the airbag is re-
activated. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s ,
contact a CITROËN dealer.
The passenger’s front airbag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger’s front airbag can
be deactivated:
with the ignition off , insert the key
in the passenger airbag deactivation
switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the
switch in this position.

Pressing this button again immediately cancels the request. The green indicator lamp goes off.
ASSISTANCE CALL

When the ignition is switched on, the green indicator lamp comes on for 3 seconds indicating that the system is operating correctly.
Pressing this button again immediately cancels the request.

Press this button for more than 2 seconds to request assistance if the vehicle breaks down.

OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM T h e g r e e n i n d i c a t o r l a m p r e m a i n s o n ( w i t h o u t fl a s h i n g ) w h e n communication is established. It goes off at the end of commun ication.
This call is dealt with by the CITROËN Emergency team which re ceives locating information from the vehicle and can send a detailed alert to the appropriate emergency services. In countries in which the team is no t operational, or when the locating service has been expressly declined, t h e c a l l i s d e a l t w i t h d i r e c t l y b y t h e e m e r g e n c y s e r v i c e s ( 1 1 2 ) w i t h o u t t h e vehicle location.
If an impact is detected by the airbag ECU, and independently of the deployment of any airbags, an emergency call is made automatically.
I f t h e o r a n g e i n d i c a t o r l a m p fl a s h e s : t h e r e i s a system malfunction.
If the orange indicator lamp is on c o n t i n u o u s l y : t h e b a c k u p b a t t e r y m u s t b e replaced.
In both cases, consult a CITROËN dealer.
