Ignition switch
Switching off the engine leads to a loss o

Ignition on position (2)
It allows the use of the vehicle's electric equipment or portable devices to be charged.
Once
the state of charge of the battery drops
t
o the reserve level, the system switches to
e
nergy economy mode: the power supply is
c
ut off automatically to preserve the remaining
b
attery charge.
Avoid
attaching heavy objects to the
k

c
ause a malfunction.
It
could adversely affect the deployment

Stop & Start
Operation
Going into engine STOP

-
w
ith a manual gearbox , when stationary,
in neutral, and you release the clutch
pedal.
-
w

stationary
or at speeds below 5 mph
(
8 km/h) (depending on version), in neutral
(

For
your comfort, during parking

Special cases: START invoked
automatically
In this case the "ECO" warning l

This operation is perfectly normal.
Special cases: STOP mode not
available
STOP mode is not invoked principally when:
- t he vehicle is on a steep slope (rising or
f
alling),
-
t
he driver's door is open,
-
t
he driver's seat belt is not fastened,
-
t
he vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph
(
10 km/h) since the last engine start by the
d
river,
-
t
he engine is needed to maintain a
c

-
d
emisting is active,
-
s
ome special conditions (battery charge,
e

Load reduction mode
System which manages the use of certain functions according to the level of charge
r
emaining in the battery.
When
the vehicle is being driven, the load
r
eduction function temporarily deactivates
c
ertain functions, such as the air conditioning,
t
he heated rear screen...
The deactivated functions are reactivated
automatically
as soon as conditions permit.System
which manages the duration of use of c
ertain functions to conserve a sufficient level
of
charge in the battery.
After
the engine has stopped, you can
s
till use functions such as the audio and
telematics
system, windscreen wipers, dipped
b
eam headlamps, courtesy lamps, etc. for
a
maximum combined duration of about
f
orty minutes.
Energy economy mode
Switching to economy mode
A message then appears in the instrument p
anel screen indicating that the vehicle has
s
witched to economy mode and the active
f
unctions are put on standby.
If
a telephone call is being made at this time, it
w
ill be maintained for around 10 minutes with
t
he Bluetooth hands-free system of your audio
s
ystem.
Exiting economy mode
These functions are reactivated automatically n ext time the vehicle is driven.
In order to restore the use of these functions
immediately,
start the engine and let it run:
-
f
or less than ten minutes, to use the
e
quipment for approximately five minutes,
-
f
or more than ten minutes, to use the
e
quipment for up to approximately
t
hirty minutes.
Let
the engine run for the duration specified to
e
nsure that the battery charge is sufficient.
Do not repeatedly and continuously restart the
engine
in order to charge the battery.
A
flat battery prevents the engine from
s
tarting.

Checks
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.
H owever, check regularly that the terminals
a
re correctly tightened (versions without quick
r
elease terminals) and that the connections
a
re clean.Refer to the manufacturer's service schedule for details of the
replacement
intervals for these
c
omponents.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Replace the oil filter each time the e ngine oil is changed.
Refer
to the manufacturer's
s
ervice schedule for details of
the
replacement interval for this
c
omponent.
Oil filter
Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule and according to your engine.
O ther wise, have them checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Depending
on the environment (e.g. dusty
a
tmosphere) and the use of the vehicle
(e.g.
city driving), replace them twice as often
if necessary .
A
clogged passenger compartment filter may
h
ave an adverse effect on the per formance
o
f the air conditioning system and generate
u
ndesirable
o
dours.
Particle filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of the
particle filter is indicated by the
fixed illumination of this warning
l
amp accompanied by a warning
m
essage.
As
soon
as
the traffic conditions permit,
r
egenerate
the filter by driving at a speed of at
l
east
40
mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp
g
oes
off.
If
the
warning lamp stays on, this indicates a
l
ow
additive level.
Refer
to
the "Diesel additive level" section.
On a new vehicle, the first particle
filter
regeneration operations may be
a
ccompanied by a "burning" smell,
w
hich is per fectly normal.
Following
prolonged operation of the
v
ehicle at very low speed or at idle,
you
may, in exceptional circumstances,
n
otice the emission of water vapour at
t
he
exhaust on acceleration. This does
n
ot affect the behaviour of the vehicle
or
the environment.

General points
Lead-acid starter batteries
Batteries contain harmful substances such as sulphuric acid and lead.
They
must be disposed of in
a
ccordance with regulations and must
n
ot, in any circumstances, be discarded
w
ith household waste.
Take
used remote control batteries and
v
ehicle batteries to a special collection
point.
With
an electronic gearbox, do not try to
s
tart the engine by pushing the vehicle. The
(-) battery terminal is not accessible.
A
remote earth point is located on the right-
hand
front wing.

Charging the battery using
a battery charger
For optimum service life of the battery, it is essential to maintain an adequate state of
c
harge.
In
some circumstances it may be necessary to
c
harge the battery:
-
i
f you use your vehicle essentially for short
journeys,
-
i
f the vehicle is to be taken off the road for
s
everal weeks.
Contact
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
w
orkshop. It is not necessary to disconnect the
battery.
Never
try to charge a frozen battery.
If the battery has been frozen, have
it
checked by a CITROËN dealer or a
q
ualified workshop, who will check that
t
he internal components have not been
d
amaged and the casing is not cracked,
w
hich could cause a leak of toxic and
c
orrosive acid.
If
you envisage charging your vehicle's
b
attery yourself, use only a charger
c
ompatible with lead-acid batteries of a
n
ominal voltage of 12 V.
If this label is present, it is essential
to
use only a 12 V charger, to avoid
c
ausing irreversible damage to the
e
lectrical components related to the
S
top & Start system. Follow the instructions for use provided
by
the manufacturer of the charger.
Never
reverse polarities.

onnect the charger B cables as follows:
-
t
he positive (+) red cable to the (+)
