AdBlue® additive and SCR system
for
Â
BlueHDi  Diesel  engines
To assure respect for the environment and
conformity with the new Euro 6 emissions
standard,
 without  adversely  affecting  the Â
p
er formance or fuel consumption of Diesel
engines,
CITROËN  has  taken  the  decision  to Â
e
quip its vehicles with an effective system that
associates SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
with a particle filter (FAP) for the treatment of
exhaust
 gases.
Presentation of the SCR system
Using a fluid called AdBlue® containing urea, a c
atalytic
Â
converter
Â
turns
Â
up

® additive is held in a special
tank
Â
located
under  the  boot  at  the  rear  of Â

vehicle.
Â
It  has  a  capacity  of  17  litres:  this Â

If

Freezing of the AdBlue® additive
The AdBlue
® additive freezes at
temperatures  below  around  -11°C.
The SCR system includes a heater
for the AdBlue
® tank, allowing you to c
ontinue
Â
driving  in  very  cold  conditions.
Topping-up the AdBlue®
Filling the AdBlue® tank is an operation i
ncluded in every routine service on your
vehicle by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
workshop.
Nevertheless,
Â
given  the  capacity  of  the  tank,  it Â
m
ay be necessary to top-up the fluid between
services,
Â
more
Â
particularly  if  an  alert  (warning Â
l
amps
Â
and
Â
a
Â
message)  signals  the  requirement.
You
Â
can
Â
go
Â
to
Â
a
Â
CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop.
If
Â
you
Â
envisage
Â
topping-up  yourself,  please Â
r
ead
Â
the
Â
following
Â
warnings  carefully.Precautions in use
Use only AdBlue® fluid that meets the
ISOÂ 22241
Â
standard.
AdBlue® is a urea-based solution. This liquid is n
on-flammable,  colourless  and  odourless  (kept Â
i
n
Â
a
Â
cool  area).
In
Â
the
Â
event  of  contact  with  the  skin,  wash Â
t
he
Â
affected  area  with  soap  and  water.  In  the Â
e
vent
Â
of
contact  with  the  eyes,  wash  (irrigate) Â
t
he
Â
eyes  with  large  amounts  of  water  or  with Â
a
n
Â
eye
Â
wash  solution  for  at  least  15  minutes. Â
I
f
Â
a
Â
burning  sensation  or  irritation  persists,  get Â
m
edical
 attention.
If swallowed, immediately wash out the mouth
with
Â
clean  water  and  then  drink  plenty  of  water.
In
Â
certain  conditions  (high  ambient Â
t
emperature,  for  example),  the  risk  of  release  of Â
a
mmonia  cannot  be  excluded:  do  not  inhale  the Â
f
luid.
Â
Ammonia  vapour  has  an  irritant  effect  on Â
m
ucous
membranes  (eyes,  nose  and  throat). The supply in a non-drip bottle simplifies
topping-up.
You  can  obtain  1.89  litre  (half  a  US Â
g
allon)  bottles  from  a  CITROËN dealer  or  a Â
q
ualified
 w
orkshop.
Never dilute AdBlue
® with water.
N
ever pour AdBlue® into the Diesel fuel
tank.
Never top-up from an AdBlue
®
dispenser
Â
reserved
Â
for
Â
heavy
Â
goods Â
v
ehicles.
Keep AdBlue
® out of the reach of
children,
Â
in
Â
its
 original  bottle.
Never transfer AdBlue
® to another
container:
Â
it
Â
would
Â
lose
 its  purity.

Recommendations on storage
AdBlue® freezes at about -11°C and
deteriorates  above  25°C.  It  is  recommended Â
t
hat bottles be stored in a cool area and
protected
 from  direct  sunlight.
Under
Â
these  conditions,  the  fluid  can  be  kept Â
f
or
Â
at
Â
least  a  year.
If the additive has frozen, it can be used once it
has
Â
completely  thawed  out.
Procedure
Before topping-up, ensure that the vehicle is parked  on  a  flat  and  level  sur face.
In wintry conditions, ensure that the
temperature
of  the  vehicle  is  above  -11°C. Â
O
ther wise,  by  freezing,  the  AdBlue
® cannot
be
Â
poured
Â
into
Â
its
Â
tank.
Â
Park
