Release
The electric parking brake releases
automatically and progressively
when you press the accelerator:
with a manual gearbox ( fi r s t
gear or reverse gear engaged),
press down fully on the clutch
pedal then press on the accel-
erator pedal and move off.
with an automatic gearbox ,
accelerate with the selector in
position D , M or R .
Full release of the parking brake is

When stationary, with the engine
running, do not press the accelera-
tor pedal unnecessarily (particularly
when starting the engine, including
in neutral), as you may release the
parking brake.
Do nat place any object (packet of
cigarettes, telephone...) between
the gear lever and the electric park-
ing brake control. Activation/Deactivation of the
automatic functions
Depending on the country of sale,
automatic application when switch-
ing off the engine and automatic
release when moving off can be de-
activated. The activation/deactiva-
tion is done in the instrument panel
s c r e e n c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u . S e l e c t
"Vehicle parameters/Comfort/Auto
handbrake".
Deactivation of these func-
tions is signalled by this
warning lamp in the instru-
ment panel.
With the automatic functions deac-
tivated, the parking brake must be
applied and released manually.
In some special circumstanc-
es, with the engine not run-
ning, (towing, icy conditions...) the
automatic parking brake can be
released manually, with the key in
the running position. Manual operation
Manual application/release of the
parking brake is always possible.
Application
With the vehicle stationary, to apply
the parking brake whether the engine
is running or off,
pull on control A .

Release
With the ignition on or the engine
running, to release the parking
brake, press on the brake pedal,
push then release control A .
The full application of the parking

A going off,
- display of a message "parking brake released" in the instru-
ment panel screen.
If you push control A without pressing
the brake pedal, the parking brake
will not be released and the message
"Apply foot on brake" will be dis-
played on the instrument panel.
When stationary, with the en-
gine running, do not press the
accelerator pedal unneces-
sarily, as you may release the
parking brake. Maximum application
If necessary, you can utilise
maxi-
mum application of the parking
brake. It is obtained by means of a
long pull on control A , until you see
t h e m e s s a g e " M a x a p p l i c a t i o n o f t h e
handbrake" and a beep is heard.
Maximum application is essential:
- in the case of a vehicle towing a caravan or a trailer, if the au-
tomatic functions are activated
but you are applying the parking
brake manually,
- when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a ferry, in a lorry, during towing).
- in the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or parking on a gradient,
turn the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park.
- a f t e r a m a x i m u m a p p l i c a t i o n , t h e release time will be longer. Particular situations
In certain situations (starting the en-
gine...), the parking brake can auto-
matically alter its level of application.
This is normal operation.
To advance your vehicle a few
centimetres without starting the en-
gine, but with the ignition on, press
on the brake pedal and release the
parking brake
by pushing then re-
leasing control A .

If the parking brake malfunctions
while applied o r i f t h e b a t t e r y i s fl a t ,
an emergency release is still pos-
sible.
To ensure correct operation of the
parking brake and therefore your
safety, the number of successive
application/release operations is
limited to eight.
I f t h i s n u m b e r i s e x c e e d e d , y o u a r e
warned by the message "Parking
brake faulty" and a warning lamp
fl a s h e s .

Dynamic emergency braking
In the event of a failure of the vehi-
cle’s main braking system or in an
e x c e p t i o n a l s i t u a t i o n ( e . g . d r i v e r t a k -
en ill, under instruction, etc) pull and
hold control A to stop the vehicle.
The electronic stability programme
( E S P ) p r o v i d e s s t a b i l i t y d u r i n g d y -
namic emergency braking.
If the dynamic emergency braking
malfunctions, one of the following
messages will be displayed on the
instrument panel display:
- "Parking brake faulty".
- "Parking brake control faulty". I f a f a i l u r e o f t h e E S P s y s -
tem is signalled by the light-
ing of this warning lamp,
then braking stability is not
guaranteed. In this event, stability
must be assured by the driver by
repeating alternate "pull release" ac-
tions on control A .
The dynamic emergency
braking must only be used in
e x c e p t i o n a l c i r c u m s t a n c e s . Emergency parking brake
release
In the event of the electric parking
brake failing to release, an emer-
gency device can be used to release
the parking brake manually, provid-
ed that it is possible to immobilise
the vehicle while the procedure is
carried out.
If you can start the vehicle: with
the engine running, immobilise
the vehicle by applying the foot
brake while the operation is be-
ing carried out.
If you are unable to start the ve-
h i c l e ( fl a t b a t t e r y f o r e x a m p l e ) : d o
not use this device and contact
a CITROËN dealer. However, if
y o u a r e o b l i g e d t o p r o c e e d , fi r s t
immobilise your vehicle securely
and then follow the instructions
below.
If the vehicle cannot be im-
mobilised, do not operate
the emergency release. Your ve-
hicle may run away on any slope.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.

On sloping ground: immobilise
the vehicle by placing the chocks
(if your vehicle has them) in front
or behind the two front wheels,
against the slope
On level ground: immobilise the vehicle by placing the chocks
(if your vehicle has them) in
front and behind one of the front
wheels.
Open the lower compartment of
the centre armrest by pulling it.
Ensure that the cup holder B is
folded away.
Remove the rubber mat covering
the base of the armrest. This strap does not permit
application of the parking
brake.
To re-engage the electric parking
brake (after rectifying the malfunc-
tion or battery failure), give a long
pull on the control A until the park-
i n g b r a k e w a r n i n g l a m p ( ! ) fl a s h e s
on the instrument panel then give a
second long pull until this warning
l a m p i s o n fi x e d .
The time required for the subse-
quent application may be longer
than during normal operation.
It is essential that the ignition is
not switched on until the parking
b r a k e h a s r e - e n g a g e d ( fl a s h i n g o f
the warning lamp (!) on the instru-
ment panel then the warning lamp
o n fi x e d ) t o a v o i d d a m a g e t o t h e
parking brake.
Take care not to allow moisture or
d u s t i n t h e p r o x i m i t y o f t h e d i a g n o s -
tic socket D which is essential for
the maintenance of your vehicle.
Release the strap from its loca-
tion C .
Pull the strap to release the
b r a k e . A l o u d k n o c k c o n fi r m s t h e
release of the brake.
Take care to put the strap back in
its location C correctly. Otherwise,
it will no longer be possible to ap-
ply the brake. Consult a CITROËN
dealer.
Put the rubber mat back in place
on the base of the armrest.

A selection grille alongside the gear
lever also allows you to see the
selected position.

To start the engine, the gear lever
must be in position N .
Press the brake pedal down fully.
Operate the starter
N appears in the instrument panel
screen.
N fl a s h e s i n t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l ,
accompanied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunc-
tion screen, if the gear lever is not
in position N on starting.
S e l e c t fi r s t g e a r ( p o s i t i o n M or A )
or reverse (position R ).
Release the parking brake un-
less it is programmed in auto-
matic mode.
Release the brake pedal, then
accelerate.
With your foot on the brake, push
the lever forwards.
Reverse
Only engage reverse with
the vehicle immobilised.
To avoid any jerking, wait a
moment before accelerating.
Neutral Never select position N with
the vehicle moving.

When immobilising the ve-
hicle, with the engine running,
you must place the gear lever
in neutral N .
Before carrying out any work in the
engine compartment, check that
the gear lever is in neutral N and
that the parking brake is applied.
SPORT programme Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can choose to:
- move to position N to engage
neutral,
- leave the gear engaged; in this case, it will not be possible to
move the vehicle.
In both cases, you must apply the
parking brake to immobilise the ve-
hicle. Operating fault
W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n o n , t h e fl a s h i n g o f
AUTO , accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the mul-
tifunction screen, indicates a mal-
f u n c t i o n o f t h e g e a r b o x .
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
Wit the gear lever at A and the
engine running, press button S to
activate the SPORT programme,
which provides a more dynamic
driving style.
S appears in the instrument panel.
Press the S button again to
switch it off.
S then disappears from the instru-
ment panel screen. You must press the brake pedal
when starting the engine.
Whatever the circumstances, you
must manually apply the parking
brake when parking, unless the
parking brake is programmed in au-
tomatic mode.

STOP & START
T h e S t o p & S t a r t s y s t e m p u t s t h e e n -
g i n e t e m p o r a r i l y o n s t a n d b y - S T O P
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c
( r e d l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , o r o t h e r . . . ) .
The engine restarts automatically -
S T A R T m o d e - a s s o o n a s y o u w a n t
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
P e r f e c t f o r u r b a n u s e , t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m r e d u c e s f u e l c o n s u m p -
t i o n a n d e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system, at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N .
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby: I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d
with the system, a time
counter calculates the
sum of the periods in
S T O P m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s
itself to zero every time the ignition
is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
m a o e u v r e s , S T O P m o d e i s n o t a v a i l -
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
S T O P m o d e d o e s n o t a f f e c t t h e f u n c -
t i o n a l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e , s u c h a s f o r e x -
ample, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine
i n S T O P m o d e ; y o u m u s t
switch off the ignition with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
In this case, the "ECO"
w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a
few seconds then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
S T O P m o d e i s n o t i n v o k e d w h e n :
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (bat- tery charge, engine tempera-
ture, braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.

A position grille associated with the
gear lever allows you to view the
selected position.
For safety:
- position P can be disen-
gaged only if you press
the brake pedal,
- when a door is opened, an au- dible signal is heard if the gear
lever is not in position P ,
- always make sure that the gear lever is in position P before you
leave your vehicle.
I f t h e g e a r b o x i s i n p o s i t i o n P but
the position of the gear lever is dif-
ferent, reposition the gear lever on
P so that you can start the vehicle.
AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
A u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x w h i c h o f f e r s a
choice between the comfort of fully
automatic operation, enhanced by
the sport and snow programmes, or
manual gear changing.
Four driving modes are provided:
- automatic operation for elec-
tronic control of the gears by the
g e a r b o x ,
- the SPORT programme for a
more dynamic driving style,
- the SNOW programme to im-
prove driving when the grip is
poor,
- manual operation for sequen-
tial changing of the gears by the
driver.

Never select positions P or R
if the vehicle is not stationary.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M .
Moving off
To start the engine, the gear
lever must be in position P or N .
Operate the starter.
When the engine is running,
place the gear lever on R , D or
M as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
Release the brake pedal and ac-
celerate.
To avoid a possible difference
between the position of the gear
lever and the actual position of
t h e g e a r b o x , a l w a y s e x i t f r o m
position P with the ignition on
and brake pedal applied.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the gear lever in posi-
tion P ,
put your foot on the brake ped-
al and then select the gear you
want. Park
This position of the gear le-
ver is used to prevent the
vehicle from moving when
you are stationary.
To select position P, move the
gear lever back to the highest
position (towards R ), then push
it forwards and then to the left.
T o e x i t p o s i t i o n P , move the gear
lever to the right and then to the
position you want.
Only engage this position when
the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the gear lever is correctly
positioned. Reverse gear
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Neutral Never select position N if
the vehicle is moving.
