IGNITION OR ACCESSORY ON MESSAGE
Opening the driver's door when the ignition is in
the ACC or ON (engine not running) position, a
chime will sound to remind you to place the
ignition in the OFF position. In addition to the
chime, the ignition or accessory on message will
display in the cluster.
NOTE:
With the Uconnect system, the power window
s w

itches, radio, power sunroof (if equipped),
and power outlets will remain active for up to
10 minutes after the ignition is placed in the
O F

F position. Opening either front door will
cancel this feature. The time for this feature is
programmable. Refer to “Uconnect Settings” in
“Multimedia” for further information.
REMOTE START — IF EQUIPPED
HOW TO USE REMOTE START
All of the following conditions must be met
before the engine will remote start:
Gear selector in PARK
Doors closed
Hood closed
Liftgate closed
Hazard switch off

Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not pushed)

Battery at an acceptable charge level
System not disabled from previous remote
start event
Vehicle security alarm not active
Ignition in the OFF position
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is not illumi -
nated
WARNING!
Before exiting a vehicle, always shift the
automatic transmission into PARK and
apply the parking brake. Always make sure
the keyless ignition is in the OFF position,
remove the key fob from the vehicle and
lock the vehicle.
Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or
with access to an unlocked vehicle.
Allowing children to be in a vehicle unat -
tended is dangerous for a number of
r e

asons. A child or others could be seriously
or fatally injured. Children should be
warned not to touch the parking brake,
brake pedal or the gear selector.
Do not leave the key fob in or near the
vehicle, or in a location accessible to chil-
dren, and do not leave the ignition of a
v e

hicle equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go
in the ACC or ON/RUN position. A child
could operate power windows, other
controls, or move the vehicle.

Do not leave children or animals inside parked
vehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up
may cause serious injury or death.

CAUTION!
An unlocked vehicle is an invitation for
thieves. Always remove the key fobs from
vehicle, place the ignition in the OFF position
and lock all doors when leaving the vehicle
unattended.

POWER DOOR LOCKS
A power door lock switch is on each front door
trim panel. Use this switch to lock or unlock the
doors and liftgate.

The doors can also be locked and unlocked with the
K e

yless Enter-N-Go (Passive Entry) system. Refer to
“Keyless Enter-N-Go — Passive Entry (If Equipped)”
in this section for further information.

If you push the power door lock switch, with the
i g

nition in the ACC or ON/RUN position and any
front door is open, the power locks will not
operate. This prevents you from accidentally
locking the key fob in the vehicle. Turning off the
ignition or closing the door will allow the locks to
operate. If a door is open, and the ignition is in
the ACC or ON/RUN position, a chime will sound
as a reminder to remove the key fob.
Automatic Door Locks — If Equipped
The auto door lock feature default condition is
enabled. When enabled, the door locks will lock
automatically when the vehicle's speed exceeds
15 mph (24 km/h). The auto door lock feature

n be enabled or disabled by an authorized
dealer per written request of the customer.
Please see an authorized dealer for service.
Auto Unlock On Exit
The doors will unlock automatically on vehicles
with power door locks if:

1. T he Automatic Unlock Doors On Exit

eature is enabled.

2. T he transmission was in gear and the
v
ehicle speed returned to 0 mph (0 km/h).
3. T he transmission is in PARK.
4
. A ny vehicle door is opened.
5
. T he doors were not previously unlocked.

. T he vehicle speed is 0
mph (0 km/h).

information.

For personal security and safety in the
event of a collision, lock the vehicle doors
before you drive as well as when you park
and leave the vehicle.

Light
This warning light will turn on when
there's a fault with the Electric Power

eering (EPS) system. Refer to
“Power Steering” in “Starting And
Operating” for further information.
Door Open Warning Light — If Equipped
This indicator will illuminate when a
door is ajar/open and not fully closed.
NOTE:
If the vehicle is moving, there will also be a

This warning light will illuminate when
the liftgate is open.

YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS
Engine Check/Malfunction Indicator
Warning Light (MIL)
The Engine Check/Malfunction
Indicator Light (MIL) is a part of an
On

board Diagnostic System called
OBD II that monitors engine and
automatic transmission control systems. This
warning light will illuminate when the ignition
is in the ON/RUN position before engine start.
If the bulb does not come on when turning the
i g

nition switch from OFF to ON/RUN, have the
condition checked promptly. Certain conditions, such as a loose or missing
g
a

s cap, poor quality fuel, etc., may illuminate
the light after engine start. The vehicle should
be serviced if the light stays on through several
typical driving styles. In most situations, the
vehicle will drive normally and will not require
towing.
When the engine is running, the MIL may flash
t o

alert serious conditions that could lead to
immediate loss of power or severe catalytic
converter damage. The vehicle should be
serviced by an authorized dealer as soon as
possible if this occurs.
WARNING!
Continued operation with reduced assist
could pose a safety risk to yourself and
others. Service should be obtained as soon
as possible.
WARNING!
A malfunctioning catalytic converter, as
referenced above, can reach higher
temperatures than in normal operating
conditions. This can cause a fire if you drive
slowly or park over flammable substances
such as dry plants, wood, cardboard, etc.
This could result in death or serious injury to
t h

e driver, occupants or others.

Disabling And Enabling HSA
This feature can be turned on or turned off. To
change the current setting, proceed as follows:
If disabling HSA using your instrument cluster
display, refer to “Instrument Cluster Display”
in “Getting To Know Your Instrument Panel”
for further information.
If disabling HSA using Uconnect Settings,
refer to “Uconnect Settings” in “Multimedia”
for further information.
For vehicles not equipped with an instrument
c lu

ster display, perform the following steps:

1. C enter the steering wheel (front wheels
p
ointing straight forward).

2. S hift the transmission into PARK.
3
. A pply the parking brake.
4
. S tart the engine.
5
. R otate the steering wheel slightly more than
o
ne-half turn to the left.
6. P ush the “ESC OFF” button located in the
l
ower switch bank below the climate control
four times within 20 seconds. The “ESC OFF
Indicator Light” should turn on and turn off
two times. 7. R
otate the steering wheel back to center
a
nd then an additional slightly more than
one-half turn to the right.

8. P lace the ignition in the OFF mode and then
b
ack to ON. If the sequence was completed
properly, the “ESC OFF Indicator Light” will blink
several times to confirm HSA is disabled.

9. Repeat these steps if you want to return this f
eature to its previous setting.
Traction Control System (TCS)
The Traction Control System (TCS) monitors the
amount of wheel spin of each of the driven
wheels. If wheel spin is detected, the TCS may
apply brake pressure to the spinning wheel(s)
and/or reduce engine power to provide
enhanced acceleration and stability. A feature
of the TCS, Brake Limited Differential (BLD),
functions similarly to a limited slip differential
and controls the wheel spin across a driven
axle. If one wheel on a driven axle is spinning
faster than the other, the system will apply the
brake of the spinning wheel. This will allow more
engine power to be applied to the wheel that is
not spinning. BLD may remain enabled even if
TCS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are in
reduced modes.
Trailer Sway Control (TSC)

TSC uses sensors in the vehicle to recognize an
excessively swaying trailer and will take the
appropriate actions to attempt to stop the sway.
TSC will become active automatically once an
excessively swaying trailer is recognized.
Note that TSC cannot stop all trailers from
s w

aying. Always use caution when towing a
trailer and follow the trailer tongue weight
r e

commendations. Refer to “Trailer Towing” in
“Starting And Operating” for further information.

When TSC is functioning, the ESC Activation/
M a

lfunction Indicator Light will flash, the engine
power may be reduced and you may feel the
brakes being applied to individual wheels to
attempt to stop the trailer from swaying. TSC is
disabled when the ESC system is in the “Partial
Off” mode.
WARNING!

If TSC activates while driving, slow the vehicle
down, stop at the nearest safe location, and
adjust the trailer load to eliminate trailer sway.

Your vehicle may also be designed to perform
any of these other functions in response to the
Enhanced Accident Response System:

After an accident, remember to cycle the ignition
t o

the STOP (OFF/LOCK) position and remove the
key from the ignition switch to avoid draining the
battery. Carefully check the vehicle for fuel leaks
in the engine compartment and on the ground
near the engine compartment and fuel tank
before resetting the system and starting the
engine. If there are no fuel leaks or damage to
the vehicle electrical devices (e.g. headlights)
after an accident, reset the system by following
the procedure described below. If you have any
doubt, contact an authorized dealer.

Enhanced Accident Response System
Reset Procedure
In order to reset the Enhanced Accident
Response System functions after an event, the
ignition switch must be changed from ignition
START or ON/RUN to ignition OFF. Carefully
check the vehicle for fuel leaks in the engine
compartment and on the ground near the
engine compartment and fuel tank before
resetting the system and starting the engine.
Maintaining Your Air Bag System
WARNING!
Modifications to any part of the air bag
system could cause it to fail when you need
it. You could be injured if the air bag system
is not there to protect you. Do not modify
the components or wiring, including adding
any kind of badges or stickers to the
steering wheel hub trim cover or the upper
passenger side of the instrument panel.
Do not modify the front bumper, vehicle
bo
dy structure, or add aftermarket side
steps or running boards.
It is dangerous to try to repair any part of
the air bag system yourself. Be sure to tell
anyone who works on your vehicle that it
has an air bag system.

STARTING THE ENGINE
Before starting your vehicle, adjust your seat,
adjust the inside and outside mirrors, fasten
your seat belt, and if present, instruct all other
occupants to buckle their seat belts.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

The gear selector must be in the NEUTRAL or
PARK position before you can start the engine.
Apply the brakes before shifting into any driving
gear.

WARNING!

Damage to the transmission may occur if the
following precautions are not observed:
Do not shift from REVERSE, PARK, or
NEUTRAL into any forward gear when the
engine is above idle speed.
Shift into PARK only after the vehicle has
come to a complete stop.
Shift into or out of REVERSE only after the
vehicle has come to a complete stop and
the engine is at idle speed.
Before shifting into any gear, make sure
your foot is firmly on the brake pedal.

NORMAL STARTING
To Turn On The Engine Using The ENGINE
START/STOP Button

1. T he transmission must be in PARK.

. P ress and hold the brake pedal while pushing

he ENGINE START/STOP button once.

3. T he system takes over and attempts to start
t
he vehicle. If the vehicle fails to start, the
starter will disengage automatically after
10 seconds.
4. If you wish to stop the cranking of the e
ngine prior to the engine starting, push the
ENGINE START/STOP button again.
NOTE:
Normal starting of either a cold or a warm
e n

gine is obtained without pumping or pressing
the accelerator pedal.
To Turn Off The Engine Using ENGINE
START/STOP Button

1. P lace the gear selector in PARK, then push
a
nd release the ENGINE START/STOP
button.

2. T he ignition will return to the OFF mode. 3

f the gear selector is not in PARK, the
E
NGINE START/STOP button must be held
for two seconds or three short pushes in a
row with the vehicle speed above 5 mph
( 8

km/h) before the engine will shut off.
The ignition will remain in the ACC mode

til the gear selector is in PARK and the
button is pushed twice to the OFF mode.
If the gear selector is not in PARK and the

GINE START/STOP button is pushed
once, the instrument cluster will display a
“Vehicle Not In Park” message and the
engine will remain running. Never leave a
vehicle out of the PARK position, or it
could roll.
NOTE:
If the gear selector is in NEUTRAL, push and
r e

lease the ENGINE START/STOP button with
the vehicle speed below 5 mph (8 km/h) before
t h

e engine will shut off, and the ignition will
remain in the ACC position. The system will
automatically time out and the ignition will cycle
to the OFF mode after 30 minutes of inactivity if
t h

e ignition is left in the ACC or RUN (engine not
running) mode and the transmission is in PARK. ENGINE START/STOP Button Functions — With

iver’s Foot OFF The Brake Pedal (In PARK Or
NEUTRAL Position)
The ENGINE START/STOP button operates
s i

milar to an ignition switch. It has three modes:
OFF, ACC, and RUN. To change the ignition
modes without starting the vehicle and use the
accessories, follow these directions:

1. S tart with the ignition in the OFF mode.

2
. P ush the ENGINE START/STOP button once
t
o place the ignition to the ACC mode.
3. P ush the ENGINE START/STOP button a
s
econd time to place the ignition to the RUN
mode.
4. P ush the ENGINE START/STOP button a
t
hird time to return the ignition to the OFF
mode.
KEYLESS ENTER-N-GO — IGNITION
This feature allows the driver to operate the
ignition switch with the push of a button, as long
as the Remote Start/Keyless Enter-N-Go key
fob is in the passenger compartment.

COLD WEATHER OPERATION

ELOW –22°F OR −30°C)
To ensure reliable starting at these
temperatures, use of an externally powered
electric engine block heater (available from an
authorized dealer) is recommended.
IF ENGINE FAILS TO START
If the engine fails to start after you have
followed the "Normal Starting" or "Cold Weather
Operation" procedure it may be flooded. Push
the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and
hold it there. Crank the engine for no more than
15 seconds. This should clear any excess fuel in
case the engine is flooded. Leave the ignition
key in the RUN position, release the accelerator
pedal and repeat the “Normal Starting”
procedure.
AFTER STARTING
The idle speed is controlled automatically, and
it will decrease as the engine warms up.
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER — IF EQUIPPED
The engine block heater warms the engine, and
permits quicker starts in cold weather. Connect
the cord to a standard 110-115 Volt AC
electrical outlet with a grounded, three-wire
extension cord.
The engine block heater must be plugged in at
le

ast one hour to have an adequate effect on
the engine.
The engine block heater cord is bundled under
t h

e hood between the headlight assembly and
the Totally Integrated Power Module (Fuse Box)
on the driver's side of the vehicle.
WARNING!
Never pour fuel or other flammable liquid
into the throttle body air inlet opening in an
attempt to start the vehicle. This could
result in flash fire causing serious personal
injury.
Do not attempt to push or tow your vehicle
to get it started. Vehicles equipped with an
automatic transmission cannot be started
this way. Unburned fuel could enter the
catalytic converter and once the engine has
started, ignite and damage the converter
and vehicle.
If the vehicle has a discharged battery,
booster cables may be used to obtain a
start from a booster battery or the battery in
another vehicle. This type of start can be
dangerous if done improperly. Refer to
“Jump Starting Procedure” in “In Case Of
Emergency” for further information.
CAUTION!
To prevent damage to the starter, do not
continuously crank the engine for more than
25 seconds at a time. Wait 60 seconds
before trying again.
WARNING! (Continued)
WARNING!
Remember to disconnect the engine block
heater cord before driving. Damage to the
110-115 Volt electrical cord could cause
electrocution.
