Warning light What it means
DPF (PARTICULATE FILTER) CLEANING IN PROGRESS (Diesel versions with DPF only)
The warning light (on some versions, together with a message and a symbol on the display) switches on
constantly to notify the driver that the DPF system needs to eliminate captured pollutants (particulate)
through the regeneration process.
The warning light does not come on during every DPF regeneration, but only when driving conditions
require that the driver is notified.
To switch the warning light off, the car must be kept moving until the regeneration process is completed.
As an average, the process lasts fifteen minutes. The best conditions to complete the regeneration process
are reached driving the car at about 60 km/h with engine speed over 2000 rpm.
When this warning light switches on, it does not indicate a car failure and thus it should not be taken to a
workshop. On some versions, together with the warning light switching on, the display shows a dedicated
message.

31)Vehicle travel speed should always be adapted to the traffic and weather conditions, and must always comply with traffic regulations. The
engine can be stopped even if the warning light is on: however, repeated interruptions of the regeneration process could cause premature
degradation of the engine oil. For this reason, it is always advisable to wait for the warning light to go off before turning the engine off,
following the instructions appearing above. It is not advisable to complete DPF regeneration with the vehicle stationary.

GENERIC FAILURE INDICATION
The warning light switches on in the following circumstances. In these cases contact a Fiat Dealership to
have the fault fixed as soon as possible:
❒Limit speed exceeded: on some versions, when the limit speed is exceeded, a message and a symbol
are displayed, along with a buzzer;
❒Fuel cut-off system intervention/failure
❒External light failure: the warning light switches on when a failure is detected in one of the following lights:
daytime running lights (DRL) (where provided)/side lights/direction indicator/rear fog light/reversing light/
number plate light/brake lights (for versions with multifunction display only). The fault relating to these lights
could be: one or more blown bulbs, a blown protection fuse or a break in the electrical connection;
❒DST (Dynamic Steering Torque or steering corrector) system failure
❒Water in diesel fuel filter
❒Stop/Start system failure
❒Methane level sensor failure (or LPG level)
❒Temporary or permanent City Brake Control - "Collision Mitigation" system failure
❒Rain sensor failure
❒Assisted parking failure
❒Dusk sensor failure

Green warning lights

LPG COMPLETION (or METHANE) (LPG or Natural Power versions)
The warning light switches on (together with a message on the display) when an LPG level sensor failure is
detected (LPG versions) or methane level sensor (Natural Power versions). In this case, the vehicle
switches to petrol operation directly.SIDE LIGHTS AND DIPPED BEAM HEADLIGHTS/FOLLOW ME HOME
The warning light switches on when side lights or dipped beam headlights are turned on.
Follow me home: the warning light switches on (on some versions together with a message and a symbol

The activation of the "Dualdrive" electric power steering is signalled by the switching on of the LED placed
on the button located in the instrument panel and by the displaying of the word CITY (in some versions it is
signalled by the displaying of the CITY message). When the power steering is deactivated, the CITY
message switches off.CRUISE CONTROL

The warning light switches on when the Cruise Control ring nut is turned to
. On some versions the
display will show a message in the case of system activation/deactivation.
SPEED LIMITER

Activation: the warning light switches on when the Cruise Control ring nut is turned to

Deactivation: the deactivation of the system is indicated by the

in the gearbox.

❒delayed start/press of the brake pedal;
❒brake pedal press and repetition of the manoeuvre

System failure

warning light on the instrument panel and by the display of a dedicated message.

In the event of a Stop/Start system failure, contact a Fiat Dealership.
SERVICESCHEDULED SERVICING (SERVICE)
When the next scheduled service is approaching, the word “Service” appears on the
display, followed by the number of kilometres or miles left. This is displayed automatically,
with ignition key at MAR, 2000 km (or equivalent value in miles) before servicing or, where
provided, 30 days before servicing. It is also displayed each time the key is turned to MAR
or, for versions/markets, where provided, every 200 km (or equivalent value in miles).
Go to a Fiat Dealership, where the "Scheduled Servicing Plan" operations will be
performed and the message will be reset.

This system, which is an integral part of
the braking system, prevents one or
more wheels from locking and slipping
in all road surface conditions,
irrespective of the intensity of the
braking action, ensuring that the vehicle
can be controlled even during
emergency braking and optimising
stopping distances.
The ABS also includes the following
systems: EBD (Electronic Braking Force
Distribution), MSR (Motor
Schleppmoment Regelung) and HBA
(Hydraulic Brake Assist).

IMPORTANT To obtain the maximum
efficiency of the braking system, a
bedding-in period of about 500 km is
needed: during this period it is better to
avoid sharp, repeated and prolonged
braking.
System interventionThe driver can feel that the ABS system
has come into action because the

system gets noisier: this is entirely

natural laws of physics, and cannot
increase grip which depends on the
condition of the road.
55)The ESC system cannot prevent
accidents, including those due to excessive
speed on corners, driving on low-grip
surfaces or aquaplaning.

never be tested irresponsibly and
dangerously, in such a way as to
compromise the safety of the driver, the
other occupants of the car or any other
road user.
57)For the correct operation of the ESC
and ASR systems it is extremely important
that the tyres are the same brand and
the same type on all the wheels, in perfect
condition and, above all, the
recommended type and size.
58)The performance of the ESC and ASR
systems must not encourage the driver
to take unnecessary risks. Your driving style
must always be suited to the road
conditions, visibility and traffic. The driver
is, in any case, responsible for safe driving.
59)The ESC functions even when the
space-saver wheel is being used. Always
remember that the space-saver wheel,
being smaller than the original wheel,
provides less grip.
60)The Hill Holder system is not a parking
brake; therefore, never leave the car
without having engaged the handbrake,
turned the engine off and engaged first
gear, so that the vehicle is parked in safe
conditions (for further information read the
"Parking" paragraph in the "Starting and
driving" chapter).61)There may be situations on small
gradients (less than 5%), with car laden, in
which the Hill Holder system may not
activate, causing a slight reversing motion
and increasing the risk of collision with
another vehicle or object. The driver is, in
any case, responsible for safe driving.

must never be tested in imprudent or

DRIVING
ASSISTANCE

The system works as a driving aid,
useful for setting off in poor grip
conditions (snow, ice, mud, etc.), which
allows the drive force to be distributed
optimally on the front axle.
The system acts by braking the wheels
with poor grip (or those slipping more
than the others), transferring the drive
force to those which have greater
grip on the ground.
The activation of the Traction Plus
system generates the differential locking
effect on the front axle through the
braking system, to optimise traction on
irregular terrain.
When the engine is started the system
is deactivated.

This is a driving assistance system,
which includes a laser sensor, locatedin the upper part of the windscreen
fig. 62, that can detect the presence of
nearby vehicles in the front.
In the event of an imminent collision the
system intervenes by automatically
braking the vehicle to prevent the crash
or reduce its effects.
The system only works if:
❒the ignition key is turned to MAR;
❒the vehicle speed is between 5
and 30 km/h;
❒a forward gear is engaged;
❒the front seat belts are fastened.
Anyway, the system can be deactivated
(then reactivated) through the Setup
Menu on the display.The system activates if there is risk of
imminent collision and the driver does
not press the brake pedal promptly.
If the system detects that the vehicle
ahead could be hit, it may prepare the
vehicle to a possible emergency
braking.
If the driver does not carry out any
action to prevent the collision, the
system may automatically slow down
the vehicle, in order to prepare it to
a possible impact.
Versions with Start&Stop system:at
the end of the automatic braking, the
Stop/Start system will activate.
Versions equipped with manual
gearbox: at the end of the automatic
braking the engine may stall and turn
off, unless the clutch pedal is pressed.
Versions equipped with Dualogic
automatic transmission(for
versions/markets, where provided): at
the end of braking the last gear stored
remains engaged.
IMPORTANT After the vehicle is
stopped, the brake calipers may be
locked for about 2 seconds for safety
reasons. Make sure you press the
brake pedal if the vehicle moves slightly
forwards.61
